With October just a few hours away, most of our feeds and environments will be filled with #breastcancerawareness and #pinkribbons. Awareness and early detection are great, don’t get me wrong. But we as a community need more action. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed in their lifetime with #breastcancer. Out of that insane statistic, 1 in 3 will develop #metastaticbreastcancer. I know so many young women who have dealt with breast cancer or reproductive cancers from their 20s to 40s. My mom was one of them, diagnosed at stage 3 right before turning 40, following a #stageiv with #brainmets diagnosis 3 years later. Some of my best friends are thriving at stage 4, and I wish I could take that pain and stress from them. I wish they had the chance to have the choice I was able to make. The picture of my mom was from 17th birthday, just ten days before she passed away. This October, I want you all to do me a favor. If you are planning to donate or buy something with a #pinkribbon, please ask where and how your funds will be used. Out of all the money that is raised for this month, 2-5% goes to metastatic breast cancer research. Please consider making a donation to either @metavivor or @the_breasties, as both are amazing nonprofits that have helped this community so much. Since it’s also #hbocweek, if you have a family history of breast, #ovariancancer, #coloncancer, or #pancreaticcancer (just to name a few), please reach out to your doctor about #genetictesting. Knowing your risk can help you #advocate for yourself when something feels off. . . . #previvor #brca1 #brca #foobs #movemountains #wahtmm https://www.instagram.com/p/B3DqsGmFCn8/?igshid=4697jgno3j9x

@Regrann ▶ @archon_turtle - PART 2 OF 3 Now that I’ve set that stage, I want to put a pin in that and talk about our GoFundMe page. I’m not going to link it here, because I’m sure some of you would think that would be self-serving. For the purposes of this conversation, you only need to know that there is one. That GoFundMe page doesn’t exist because Heather and I are destitute, or because we can’t afford her treatment. It exists so that people who want a tangible way to help Heather, have the ability to do so. Obviously, unless you are a radiologist or an oncologist, you can’t actually help fight cancer. Scores of people want to know every day “what can I do to help?” The GoFundMe page gives them a way to do that. And if you were to go look at that page, it says exactly that. We are very up front and honest about what the page is for, and what that money is spent on. Every single penny goes toward a “bucket list” event for Heather, or directly toward a cost generated by her fight against cancer. So. Back to the topic of the importance of feeling normal. If you’ve followed this account for any length of time, you’ve probably realized that retro video game collecting is my thing. It’s my escape. It’s the hobby I use to distract me from the horror of our reality. And it works. My collection is a healthy way for me to escape from all of this when the days get really dark. I woke up this morning and shouted for someone to bring me a bowl to vomit in. Thanks to my kids who came running with one. They were getting ready for school, and having me need to vomit is not abnormal. . But happy news, I think I am actually sick with the flu and it's not #chemo or the #cannabisoil or even just the #cancer. . This is just one of the many plights of the metastatic cancer patient. Many of us have non-stop aches, somatic sensations, or straight-up pain. And new pain can send us down a #stresshole. I was relieved this morning when my friend, who I spent days with last week, was dry heaving. . Of course, I am not "happy" that she is sick. I am relieved to be able to shelter today under being "sick with the flu" instead of stressing that my headache was #brainmets. Or my stomachache was ascites or my liver. . I am feeling a bit better now. I am hoping to feel strong enough tomorrow to be an upright human.❤🌟🌟❤ #metastaticbreastcancer #stageIVneedsmore #cancercollege #medicalmaryjane #marijuanaismedicine
