reblogging for commentary and also so I can add two things I noticed/remembered on the second viewing:

Lewis Powell uses the phrase "Brown and Black people" not once but twice

The full context of the strange fruit/regular fruit was Abel Meeropol singing the lyrics "Apples, peaches and cherries" and then going "not exactly strange fruit, more like regular fruit." In the next line he ATTEMPTED to make that sound a little less.......glib.........by saying something about how "sometimes you paint a pretty landscape and sometimes you paint the bowels of hell" but it did not make it work

everything else was precisely as I remembered including "there's no Black people in the Black Forest," Meeropol inexplicably ranting about pogroms to six-year-old Robert Rosenberg on their first meeting, and the extremely sus and inaccurate dialect work for Du Bois (if you're doing your best to execute a non-offensive cross-racial Du Bois portrayal, consider NOT reflexively southernizing your voice)
