I've been meaning to ramble about the meaning and plot behind Pink Bitch Club

But I think I finally got the plot! I'm also using another person's comment as they added a perspective to this series I hadn't considered until I re-watched it.

Also y'know watch the series or else this is bullshit.

💔Minako's Room/Gyaru Talk 💔 Both more or less talks about How Minako and Gyaruko are besties. This is very important however as we see Minako eventually kill both Gyaruko and her dog by the end of Minako's Room. The motivation is more or less shown in Gyaru Talk. She's jealous of Gyaruko, we see them both get ready to hang out and watch as Minako mimics certain things Gyaruko does (even her dominate hand, which is supposedly her left, as she's seen struggling applying her makeup unlike Gyaruko). The actual talk they have during the make over is presumably the day Gyaruko died and features snippets of her the assumed moment she died, pleads about how good a friends they are.

💔Pink B**ch Club💔

This is the point where Minako finally snaps and starts imagining a perfect world where she didn't kill Gyaruko (evident with the moment before the chorus). However, there's another layer added to it in the form of Charlotte and VYT. Neither of them are real obviously but I'll get into why and what they are later.

The music video is peak upbeat cutsieness with hints here and there that something isn't right, up until the end where we get the reveal that Minako killed them all, again. We also get a montage of Minako mimicking their fashion styles once again.

This is kinda where a big character revelation comes in the form of the lyrics "The moment I meet you, in the fog that can't be lifted, I can change". Minako's obsessed with being anything but herself. She finds an escapism from her own situation (presumably depression or a psychopathic undertone) and identity in the form of mimicking others. It feels a bit cheap to say 'hence why she's always associated with a broken heart emoji unlike everyone else', but it does fit the idea that she's hollow without something to imitate.

She imitated Gyaruko until she killed her (potentially BECAUSE she just kept copying her until she got called out) and now she keeps doing it to the others.

This isn't where her character ends however.

🖤🧡Chi no Squi/GAL!🧡🖤 Chi no Squi is interesting as it depicts a completely disconnected plot from everyone. As turtleqqqq suggested, what if everyone (aside from Gyaruko) are characters in movies that Minako is so obsessed with she's decided to force herself into the role of a key character in that movie. A character her 'friends' admire and are possibly the love interests of. This is more evident in this video as it shows something akin to a movie where Charlotte gets betrayed and rebels from her religion worshipping the Devil instead, which by the end is shown to be Minako to her (probably missed the implied adultery of her mother leading to her eye getting shot out as well).

As someone else also proposed there's a good chance Charlotte did exist but Minako now sees her more as we do, I disagree though.

GAL is probably the hardest hitting example of this as we Gyaruko as the leader of an all girls Bozozoku. Which just shows how hard Minako is repressing what actually happened to her. She ends up being betrayed by one of members (who was in love with the leader of the gang they were fighting), and being left for dead until she kicks their asses and collapses in the rain, only for Minako to find her and mimmick the opening.

But we already know who Gyaruko is, she was Minako's best friend, who'd probably never even joined a gang before they met. This is just how Minako wants to see her as to not think about what she's done. This applies to all of her friends, in her eyes she's a saint to all of her friends and helps them however she can. Saving them at their lowest points, except for VYT.

💜OTOMEROID💜

This is where my own personal theory comes into play. I don't VYT is is based off any friends of Minako, I think she's the other side of Minako's personality. Her lyrics seem to parallel Minako's in terms of how obsessed she is with understanding love and how robotic she feels. Given how Minako seems to be doing all these actions apathetically it'd fit that some part of her would question why she's so obsessed with this feeling. What adds to it is that VYT IS Minako's maid, not only that but we only see her really reflect on these feelings when Minako's asleep. Meaning that deep down Minako probably knows what she's doing isn't right but can't stop herself at this point.

The 'Update' being the revelation of this that Minako pulls the plug on quickly with the final quip of "She was right". This also explains why her heart was ripped out in Pink Bitch Club. Basically every thing that happens to VYT Minako mentally did to herself.

💔Psychodelic 💔

So by this point Minako's broken herself to the point she's a selfish, obsessive person who wants to be anything but herself. But with Psychodelic we get a slight wrench. Given how the video depicts a lot of repeating imagery before alongside how it's all displayed on a projector, I think Minako might've trapped herself in a slight cycle of reminiscing on the non existent past she used to have with her friends. Or at least trying to remember it whilst her memories of Pink Bitch Club have fully tainted them.

Onigiri Dance

There isn't much to pick up on outside of the fact Minako's animated better than everyone else and she and Gyaru are the only ones in proper angel clothing which also further supports my idea that they're the only real people in the story.

If you would have to do a video or picture series called "100 Years of Wafuku fashion", which covers the decades 1900s to 2000s (or maybe you can extend it to up to maybe the 2020s). Which shows not only what the clothing looked like but other parts of the ensemble as well (i.e. hairstyles,make up, and accessories). What will you show as like the representation of each decade?

Fashion and hairstyles history overview could easily fill a book. And we are not even touching the issue of handling subdivisions like social class, areas of Japan, subcultures, etc etc.

So, pinpointing fashion trends over such a loooong period of time is difficult... Maybe one day I'll have the bravery for such a project but today is not the day xD

[100 Years of Beauty: Japan - Research Behind the Looks] video, which goes with this video released by CUT [Evolution of furisode fashion from the 1950′s to 2020′s] charts For hairstyles, look at the nihongami tag, especially Shota Kotake's illustrations and Nancy Duong's Hairstyles of Taisho Japan (new source is here) My kimono tag is not truly organized by eras :S You can still check the following periods: Meiji, Taisho (or Taisho romance), WWII. Also check any "antique"* mention. Post WWII is messier. I have a few things filled under Showa, and virtually nothing tagged as Heisei ("vintage"* is not properly ordered enough :S). For late Heisei/Reiwa look at modern kimono tag. (* on this blog, I use antique and vintage quite liberally!) I can't find all the posts I am thinking of, but subcultures I've covered in the past includes moga, bankara, gyaru, decora, kawaii / loli, bozozoku, ... I'll also recommend this article (cw: USA internment camps), as wafuku history doesn't stop at Japan and should also includes overseas. I don't have much on then occupied territories (like Manchouria, Korea, Phillipines, Singapore etc) + the Ryuukyuu but they should also be cited here!

Fantastic costume on the theme “Coming of age day in Kitakyushu” modelled by Drag queen Durian Lollobrigida, with a fun bôzôzoku pompadour wig.

Seijin no hi is held on second monday of January in Japan. Kitakyushu is know for its fashion somehow more eccentric (=fun) than what can be seen in Tokyo for example -though regional trends tend to blur nowadays.

Zombieland Saga: Revenge – 06 – Tae-Tae’s Big Adventure

Ookoba Shinta needs a big scoop to maintain his sanity in Saga, and he can’t quite take his eyes of the group of lookalikes of deceased famous people that is Franchouchou. He’s not a fan (though I guess he’s not not a fan either); he wants more answers about who they are and what their deal is.

Well, their deal is pretty simple: they’re 20 million yen in debt, all thanks to Koutarou (who brazenly ignores that fact, thus rejecting reality and substituting his own). They’re out of their creative slump due to the past few events that also didn’t cost them anything, but they still need to get that paper.

He even calls out Tae as someone who really should be at least trying to make some money, though Yuugiri simply sends her on a grocery errand. Ookoba encounters “Number Zero” in a crosswalk and decides to start following her. What he—and we—witnesses is a delightful day in the life of Yamada Tae!

A kind old lady gives her a snack. Some soccer kids give her a snack. She has a snack of edible offerings at the Yamada family ancestral grave. Then she shows up at the supermarket…where my favorite pint-sized bozozoku girl Amabuki Maria has a job trying to pay for a new bike for her mama. Maria can’t help but talk Zero’s ear off whenever they meet; probably because Zero is such a good listener!

Maria and her two BFFs have decided to “tear it up” in a new way, through dance, and invite Zero to a pharma-sponsored dance-off where they proceed to put on, shall we say, a heartfelt and upbeat but ultimately underwhelming performance. They’re no match for the five-time champion Cocco-kun, who is someone in a chicken suit.

Because Cocco-kun represents Tae’s ideal—a chicken big enough for her veracious appetite—she joins him in a breakdancing duel, scaring the shit out of the pharma PR exec but also blowing the top off the competition with her inhuman moves, including spinning on her head so fast her head looks motionless…because it is! Ookoba tries to snap a photo, but Romero ruins his shot.

Tae easily dethrones the fully human Cocco-kun and claims the ¥30,000 Grand Prize, but seems only interested in the Bonus Prize: a 10kg bag of onions—and tosses the cash in the trash. Fortunately, Maria fishes it out and tries to give it back to Zero-chan, attracting the attention of Saga Policeman A.

He recommends she spend it at the tracks…not the horseracing track, as he repeatedly pleads to his chief, but the boatracing regatta. There, like Maria and her little dance troupe, Korosuke’s princess Misa has also found a new way to tear it up, even though she’s yet to win a single race and wipes out almost every time. While the cop is busy, Tae places a bet, demonstrating how easy to use the machines really are.

Misa spots Maria in the grandstand and it lights a fire in her belly, because she’s a Misa on a mission, channeling Saki on her bike and pulling the legendary “eel goby turn” while shocking everyone who bet on her to DNF once more.

Maria and Misa’s Korosuke crew are elated, and then Maria takes a look at betting ticket and realizes to her shock that Number Zero increased her money over six hundredfold with a perfect trifecta (or something…I don’t know all the terminology!)

This means she turned her ¥30,000 into a cool ¥20 million—thus erasing all of Franchouchou (really Koutarou’s) debt in one day, while out on a little grocery errand. She either took Koutarou’s insistence she get out there and make some money, or it happened entirely by accident (after all, she did try to throw that ¥30K in the trash at first).

Zombieland Saga loves the fact that we both desperately want to know and don’t want to know more about Yamada Tae, and spent an entire Tae-centric episode proving that it really isn’t a detriment for her shroud of mystery to remain fully intact, even unto the end of the series. Tae more than proved she can carry an episode without singing, speaking, or her past being revealed, while Ookoba followed her all day only ended up with more questions.

Cheif among those crops up right at the end of his stalking session. When Tae’s head pops off and falls on the ground, Maria just happens to have her back turned, and Saki keeps it that way by pulling her into a romantic embrace. But Ookoba not only sees Zero’s head come off, he snaps a photo of it. Just when he was about to give up, his underling’s joke about those famous girls being revived as zombies suddenly doesn’t seem so far-fetched…
