These kids appointed themselves neighborhood guardians for the duration of the war. Here, on September 19, 1942, the sergeant-at-arms, Charles Au, admitted two new members, Arthur Werner and Leonard Buchanan. Their headquarters was in a shack, replete with street maps, shovels, rakes, sand buckets, and other equipment.

I'm very sleepy but I've had another Edwin thought.
Before WWII, the unnecessary gendering of pink and blue was actually swapped; pink was associated with boys, and blue with girls. The reason it swapped after WWII is gay men sent to concentration camps were marked as such with pink triangles, and so the color became associated with femininity instead of masculinity. Tragic yet fascinating stuff, and absolutely worth knowing, as all things relating to concentration camps, especially in WWII, are. How to avoid history repeating itself, etc-
But why does that make me think of Edwin? Yes he's gay, but he predates WWII, and he's definitely not associated with the color pink?
It's because of all that, and he's associated with blue, of course!
Blue was the needlessly gendered girl color in Edwin's time, and he liked it even before he died, the blue cap Simon snatched off him, remember? I'm not 100% sure on if it's a one to one or if we've gone even harder on the needlessly gendering, but picturing every instance of blue related to Edwin as pink instead as a thought exercise for the fem vibes of his clothes is fun, to me at least.

Howdy folks, I’m currently working on a video on Godzilla and wanted to understand as much of the historical context surrounding the original film (and as much as I can get for each of the subsequent films). So i wanted to jump on here and ask if anyone has good history books that talk about japan before, during and after the war. Also if you have any good japanese history books in general (obviously preferably in english as i don’t speak japanese and would rather defenstrate myself then google translate a history book). Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Once seen and never forgotten, "The Dover Boys at Pimento University or the Rivals of Roquefort Hall" to use the full title, is a non-stop assault on the viewer's funny bone. It takes an axe to the "Americana" films of the Second World War era that took refuge in a sentimentally remembered 1890s, but it also plunges wholeheartedly into the bizarre, a factor that keeps later generations enjoying "The Dover Boys" and hailing it as Chuck Jones' first masterpiece [...] The characters strike unnatural poses and move in idiosyncratic ways, Dora gliding along as she were on wheels under her dress, Dan Backslide leaping from pose-to-pose and an inebriated sailor strolling in an eccentric gait, never to be seen again [...] No longer was Jones to odd, humorless person out at Termite Terrace. He had become a force to be reckoned with.
Michael Samerdyke on The Dover Boys (Cartoon Carnival: A Critical Guide to the Best Cartoons from Warner Brothers, MGM, Walter Lantz and DePatie-Freleng)

Review: The Boy And The Heron
Hayao Miyazaki is one of those artists that needs no introduction, a brilliant storyteller whose characters and richly-developed stories include tales of flying pigs and walking castles, forest gods and floating cities, preschooler mermaids and fantastical bathhouses. So even when nobody really knew what the plot was, “The Boy And The Heron” was already an alluring prospect. And while perhaps…

going to chb must be crazy like imagine sharing a camp with
-one of the strongest demigods ever who's saved the world like at least 3 times, fought multiple gods & titans and WON (and is a tartarus survivor)
-the literal main architect of OLYMPUS who's also saved the world multiple times (also tartarus survivor)
-THE lord of the wild who's also close friends with the first two (and has helped save the world multiple times)
-an emo kid from the 1930s who again helped save the world and is also a tartarus survivor (TWICE)
-a son of apollo who survived tartarus with nothing but cargo shorts and sheer will (pun intended)
-the main designer and builder for the argo II, also the first hephaestus kid to have fire powers since hundreds of years ago (did i mention killed gaea? no? yeah he did that too)
-a girl who somehow charmspeak-ed gaea into falling back asleep (also side note daughter of super famous actor because why not)
-pretty much everybody is a two-time war veteran
-THE GOD APOLLO who just sometimes comes down to visit in the form of a teenage boy
-did i mention dionysus, god of wine madness and theatre
-also chiron, trainer of pretty much every greek hero ever
