I painted a Boykin Spaniel in watercolors!! This one took a whopping 17 or so, 10 of which I spent on just the ears 💀

I really challenged myself with this one and I’m super excited to share it!! What do you guys think?🥹🩵

#funfact: The first Boykin spaniel, or the precursor of today's breed, was reportedly a small, stray spaniel type dog that befriended a banker walking from his home to the First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina around 1905-1910. Alexander L. White (1860-1942) liked the little dog and took it home.

Painted with a mix of Holbein and Daniel smith Watercolors on Arches Hot-pressed paper.

Realizing Fred didn’t exist when I made this blog so he hasn’t ever been introduced! Since we are active here again, allow me to introduce you all to

CH Cavern Mercury Queen TKE DN FTI CGCA CGCU RN

More lovingly known as Freddie Mercury, or Chicken Alfredo, or just Chicken, or Noodle, etc…

He is a Boykin spaniel and will be 4 in March (I can’t believe it!) and my very best friend. He’s also a working service dog and helps me evaluate and rehab difficult rescue pups. I didn’t know a dog could be so amazing before I met him.

Bonus fact: he is the first of his breed to have the Trick Dog Elite Performer (TKE) title!
