BoyceEpic Update

I meant to do this on Saturday, because that was a month into writing this thing, buuuuut...yeah, I have no excuse for why I didn’t. ANYWAY.

BoyceEpic update, one month + two days in:

* Currently sitting at 24,769 words, 62 pages, 8 completed chapters

* I’m moving much slower than I did with TWOHM, but I’m liking what I’m putting down far more than I did with TWOHM, too, so...priorities.

* I am coming to terms with the realization that this thing is going to be, as the poets say, a motherfucking beast of a story. I’m starting Chapter 9 and, timeline-wise, I’m somewhere before the start of Chapter 7 in TWOHM, so...yeah. It’s clearly gonna be longer than TWOHM was. And TWOHM is long.

* I love Phil Boyce and Chris Pike more than ever before.

3, 13, 19, 23 for the fic asks!

3) favorite line/scene you wrote this year

There are a couple scenes from the apocalypse fic currently in progress that I’m very fond of - can’t share because spoilers - and one that I’m planning to write for the BoyceEpic that wrecks me when I think about it. But of actual, completed fics that were published this year? I’m gonna go with the old favorite: The scene in TWOHM, chapter 18, where Chris and Phil are talking in bed in the middle of the night. There’s so much in that scene that’s done with so little, and it’s very intimate without making the reader feel voyeuristic. (At least, I hope that’s the case.)

13) favorite writing song/album/artist of this year

L i s t e n. I’m not one who writes to music. I love music; I just get so focused on music that when I’m listening to it I can’t focus on anything else. I’m not a casual music listener. Having said that, I did make a playlist for TWOHM and it is pretty sweet.

19) any new fics to start next year

I am already-wetting-my-pants-about-it excited about my apocalypse fic (it has a title but it’s still secret). The rough draft will probably be completed before the end of the year and then it’ll just be fine-tuning. The big deal fic of next year, though, will be the BoyceEpic (which also has a title already but it also is a secret). It already has a skeleton that lives in my drive and I am stoked as hell to get started on it after graduation.

23) fics you wanted to write but didn’t

ASHLDFAJKSDF CALL ME OUT WHY DON’T YOU. I have a couple dozen things written down in my “idea document” that didn’t get written in 2017. But I WILL write them in 2018, or DIE TRYING. (That...was dramatic. Let’s just say I’ll try. K? K.)

deuces wild, which is, admittedly, a weird-ass little fic. But it’s far better than it’s given credit for. (AND THANK YOU, KENZIE, FOR THE BLINDINGLY OBVIOUS OPEN FOR ME TO SELF-PROMOTE. ;D)

18) current number of wips

If by “WIP” you mean “fic I’ve actually written something for, no matter how small,” then three: the apocalypse fic, the BoyceEpic, and a NSFW Chril that I’ve been working on since, like, October that’s coming along at a snail’s pace.

25) a fic you read this year that you would recommend everyone read

I’m gonna pick THREE OF THEM: A Hundred Sunrises (Culmets), You Always Meet Twice (Chril), and counting stars (McKirk/Chril/Benkaru/gen).

2. what would you name your future kids?

Well, there will be no future kids…but they have names nevertheless.

Maxine Grace Kathryn and James Christopher Vincent.

Both are named after a personal hero (Jim Lovell and Grace Helbig), a departed family member (my grandmother Maxine and my father Vince), and a Star Trek character (Kathryn Janeway and Christopher Pike).

4. what are you looking forward to?

Finals being over four days from now. Writing my apocalypse AU. Writing the BoyceEpic. Graduating from college in 6.5 months. A LOT.

9. who did you last see in person?

Aside from my patients and coworkers today? That’d be my ex-FWB, with whom I had dinner on Wednesday. Who may no longer be an ex-FWB. I dunno; I have emotions when I think about it so let’s not before I pull a Spock and run away for some kolinahr shit.
