WELCOME BACK ONCE AGAIN, EVERYBODY!

That’s right!  We’re getting ready for another full week celebrating the sublime Sonic/Sally Ship!  But this time, it’s going to be an especially special event!  Get ready to really part as we prepare...

BOUND FOR FREEDOM: SONIC x SALLY WEEK, YEAR FIVE!

As in the past, this week-long event will run from FRIDAY, AUGUST 11th TO FRIDAY, AUGUST 18th!  You can participate either by submitting directly to this blog, or else by tagging your post with any of these tags: #boundforfreedom, #sonally week, and/or #sonsal week (make sure to include at least one of these tags within the first five tags of the post so that they will show up in Tumblr’s Search).  If your submission is not reblogged here within 24 hours, please message either this blog directly, or the blog runner, @gojira007​

As has become tradition, our usual daily prompts will be unified this time around by a THEME!  You’re free to make of that theme what you like; maybe you use it to supplement your piece or link your contributions together, or maybe you use the Theme itself as your inspiration if the daily prompt isn’t really doing it for you, or maybe you just ignore it all together!  But whatever you want to do with it, the theme is there to help really bring this year’s event to life.  

And this time around, the Theme is extra special, because this year marks the 30th anniversary of the 1993 SatAM “Sonic the Hedgehog” animated series, which in turn makes it Sally’s thirtieth anniversary too!  And to commemorate that fact?

As has been well established, we are VERY Pro-Trophy Husband Sonic around these parts.  And don’t worry; the person who runs this blog is still catching up with his own Event this year, your entry absolutely counts!

And the pic itself is really great too!  I quite love both designs for the characters here, for one thing; they so organically and elegantly capture that Dynamic you speak to here, of Freedom and Control in harmony with each other, and I deeply love the subtle visual links you draw between them like the shared button-and-chain motif along the torsos or the fun colored outlines with which you highlight their respective regalia.  Moreover, I love how those delightfully charismatic poses play into that dynamic, the fun Sizzle they add to the whole thing as they draw our focus to how tight and firm Sally’s outfit is, how loose and flowy Sonic’s is, and what that says about how this relationship functions here.

Anyway lol I've always had beef with Archie for making Sonic king because let's be honest, neither of them would want that. Sally craves power and structure and responsibility that would make Sonic break out in hives. But I think Sonic would make an EXCELLENT high consort, charming both the court and the general public, sassing nobles who think too highly of themselves, ducking out of politics when he gets bored, and so on. Basically let Sonic be the irreverent but unfairly charismatic trophy husband Sally deserves. Please

For the record, no, "Waiting" or some variation thereof has not been one of our prompts? But honestly, given certain Slang-y applications of the term, I feel OK puttin' this one under "Cake" anyway. x3

Likewise, I think this story fits into our parameters; as you say, it's Saucy, but never explicit, and more to the point I genuinely found it to be a fun worthwhile read. We do know Sonic and Sally can get decently hormonal when The Mood strikes them (never forget The Kissing Contest X3), and the way you turn that here into such a clear and strongly-realized dynamic, where the two are both having to, in various ways, navigate around their instincts, is really interesting and well-rendered. The way you build so naturally to that final punchline is particularly satisfying; the whole story is all about Building Tension, so that last teasing little POP at the very end feels like exactly the right choice.

Do I know for certain that "waiting" was ever one of the prompts? No, I do not. I had every intention for this story to be about stealing cake from Robotnik, but that's just not what Sonic and Sally were in the mood for. Anyway, this is a little, tiny bit spicy, please let me know if it's too spicy to be a #boundforfreedom entry and I'll go back and try to convince these crazy kids that they really do want cake.

Thanks so much for participating!  And  what a cute little story to kick things off with, too; the central gag of Sonic impulsively accepting Sally’s invite without actually understanding what it is definitely feels spot on for the character, especially the big bold way he makes his entrance.  Likewise I appreciate Sally’s cool-headed response, which really does make just the right Punchline for the whole thing. 

Sonally week: Letter to party

This is a entry @boundforfreedomsonsal event Sonally week 2023 day 1: Invitation.

Sonic the Hedgehog wake up one morning in his home. Well, the home is actually a rest stop for him during his journey around the world, and it is where he can get his mail. Anyway, after he get himself breakfast, Sonic speed outside to his mailbox to see if he got any letters from any of his friends.

Opening the mailbox, Sonic find a letter from Princess Sally Acorn and it's a invitation to a party at her castle. Without ever checking the letter, Sonic smile and said, "Look like some princess want to test my speed." and head to the party.

Arriving at the castle garden, Sonic said as he stop, "Raise the party music, becuase Sonic the Hedgehog is here." only to see the princess having tea with friends. The chipmuck princess said to her confused friends, "Sorry girls. I think Sonic mistake the tea party for some other kind of party."

Congratulations on your achievement, and thank you so much for your contributions!  

As to the story itself, I actually really love the particular blend of Tones and Emotions it goes for, at once a story about Regret and Satisfaction, of looking back and forward while still standing in the Now, something breezy and calm and light but also carrying a lot of real Weight and Meaning.  And a lot of that comes from just how well you really let the characters speak for themselves; the story is driven almost entirely by dialogue, and rather than let that make it feel bare or short, you instead use that fact to hone in very explicitly on how these two are able to pull so much from each other.  Their joys, their hopes, their thoughts...you make it feel so real and so affecting here, and it makes that oh-so-evocative last line click just right.  It’s a wonderful way to wrap up your stories for this year’s event. ^_^

I actually did it! Eight posts, eight days, I'm more surprised than proud of myself, lol. I'm hoping to post a lot more to AO3 in the future so this is the beginning and not the end.
