At the end of what used to be possibly Soho’s dodgiest alley, there’s a new theatre, the Boulevard Theatre.  The whole alley has undergone a bit of a makeover with a glass bridge connecting different parts of the theatre on either side now hovering over the end.  I’d heard the restaurant was pretty good so I headed on down to try it out.

Slightly unusually, pork belly was down as a starter so we thought we’d see what it was like.  For a lot of other places, the pork might be marginally bigger but it would be a main.  The crackling had a little bit of crisp to it but could’ve done with a bit more. The dollops of apple sauce were nice and not too tart and the pork was nice and juicy.

We also ordered a twice baked cheese souffle.  It was topped with a blob of onion jam and a chive sauce.  The souffle was beautifully light yet super cheesey.  I’d definitely be happy ordering ths again!

The last of our starters was kohlrabi, salsa verde, hazlenut and celeriac.  This dish was really fresh and light which was a nice contrast to the richness of the souffle.  The salsa verde was a bit too acidic for me but otherwise, a very nice dish.

We decided to go for the grill with this main, getting the pork chop which was served with chunky chips and a blue cheese butter.  The pork chop wasn’t too bad; maybe a tiny bit overcooked but still pretty juicy.  The chips were really good though!  Big and chunky chips but still nice and crispy.

We also ordered the salmon which came with chilli kale, beetroot and pink fir potatoes.  The fish was fresh and well cooked and the potatoes were pretty good too.  This was a very simple dish which while very nice was a little unexciting.

For dessert, we were recommended the chocolate and olive oil cake with whiskey custard.  The texture of the cake was more dense than fluffy, more like a brownie than a cake.  I’m guessing that’s due to the olive oil in it.  It was nice enough but having been sold to us as the best chocolate we’ve ever had, it definitely fell short.
Boulevard is a nice place for a quick bite and if you are catching a show at the Boulevard theatre, it’s a great place for a pre-show meal.
