Trying to stay positive abt the spring anime season so here are some things to look forward to:
3 sports anime, one of them is by MAPPA, so we can expect great animation and the other 2 are actually female led sports anime?? And they are not ecchi?? Is this a miracle?? (Boukyaku Battery, Rinkai! and Ooi! Tonbo)
2 yuri anime coming, yayyyyy,,, (Whisper me a Love Song and The Two Sides of Voice Actor Radio)
2 slice of life anime (Tadaima, Okaeri and Tonari no Youkai-san) + Yuru Camp is coming back (the sole cgdct of the season, my crops are dying)
Also we have a BL, and I need you to brace yourself for what i'm going to say next: it's an ABO m-preg childcare BL (Tadaima, Okaeri)
As for other romance anime we have the Spice and Wolf remake (i'm not sure if it's a remake or a new season?) and i'm also looking forward to Unnamed Memory.
And we have the single shoujo of the season: A Condition Called Love. I've heard great things abt the manga so I hope the anime is good
If i'm being honest tho, spring season looks nowhere near as good as winter did to me
Edit: apparently there is one more shoujo next season but it doesnt sound as interesting lol

Oblivion Battery Episode 12 Review + Final Thoughts - Baseball Is Fun
What’s interesting about Oblivion Battery is that this is one of the rare cases where a sports anime does not have a big focus on matches in a big tournament. Instead, they chose to focus more on practice matches. Practice matches aren’t high stakes, yet they’re still treated as such here. While it’s not a bad thing, I just find that interesting given that they’re in a public school with a barebones baseball team. Hence why the match against Hikawa High wraps up quickly for this finale.
Tumblr media
It’s good that Kei developed and managed to hit Makita’s pitch. It was an important hit, after all. I liked how Haruka was confident that Kei will hit it because he has always been practicing with him. If Kei can keep up with Haruka’s pitches, then other pitchers are no match for him. It helped Shunpei get to home base with his speed and finally proving to Makita that his style of baseball is ideal for him. It helped Kotesashi get a win against a big named school. Most of all, it helped Kei develop a love for baseball in his amnesiac state. The way he was all excited in his room was very nice to look at.
Tumblr media
While the finale is nice and all, there still hasn't been a concise answer to how or why Kei lost his memories or if he’s suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder. All that’s shown is that he seemed to have a burnout from baseball and everything he did as the Commander, which included “killing” potential baseball monsters to help Haruka get on top, probably took a toll on him mentally. He watched a slice of life anime and realized that his life was full of stress and he was missing out on the mundane aspects of life like eating snacks, going to a store and searching for love and peace. That’s why his amnesiac self always repeated the same things he saw from that anime. It’s also unsure how the change from Kei to Commander Kei happened. Was it really hypnosis or over exhaustion? I guess I would have to read the manga to find out.
Tumblr media
Kei’s gradual change from disliking baseball to falling in love with it was interesting to see. He does things at his own pace, so it was eventual that he’d fall in love with baseball once again. I do have a feeling that the Commander never loved baseball genuinely, hence why the amnesia caused him to regress. The current Kei wants to surpass the Commander, so I do wonder how powerful Kei will become with that declaration now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s unknown whether this anime will get a season 2, but it would be nice to see where Kotesashi will go from here if it’s possible. If there is no Season 2, then this finale is a great way for new viewers to dive into the manga to see what happens next. What are your thoughts on this anime as a whole?
Final Thoughts
There are those animes that have a bad first impression, but does get better later on. Oblivion Battery is one of those. First-time viewers may be put off by how annoying Kei was—I certainly was too—but if you persevered, it’s actually pretty good. However, I do admit that Aoi and Shunpei were the main reasons why the anime is good because those two saved the show with their antics.
Did you know that ‘Boukyaku’ can also mean ‘forgetful’ in Japanese? That’s the premise of this show! Because Kei lost his memories, he regressed from Lv. 100 to Lv 1 and had to reteach himself the basics and fundamentals of baseball. Kei learning about baseball is also helping first-time viewers with the sport too. I learned a lot about positions, how to score points and how important a battery is to the sport. I do feel like the author is very familiar with the sport to be writing about it.
While sports animes can be comical, the comedy in Oblivion Battery can be hit or miss. Kei’s Nipple Hair gag can get old, but all the meta jokes were hilarious. I think Episode 8 was the best when it came to comedy because all my favorite moments came from that episode from Haruka pouting to Mamoru Miyano making an actual cameo.
Learning about Aoi and Shunpei’s past was also a highlight because it’s fascinating to see how two baseball aces fell from grace due to their own personal issues. It shows that you can be your own worst enemy. Aoi was riddled with personal guilt which caused him to develop yips. He ran away from his problems by getting into fights, but when he decided to reform and attend Kotesashi, he realized that he still loved baseball even with his guilt and issues. For Shunpei, he was insecure about the things he lacked which he denied until a one-off comment made him realize that he was deluding himself into believing he wasn’t insecure all this time. Heck, even someone like Kazuki had his own issues with baseball as he couldn’t deal with a suffocating hierarchy system, showing that some clubs functioned in a toxic manner. My only gripe was not getting a Yamada backstory. The guy is the POV character, give me his backstory!
I guess my only gripe of this anime is that the team sort of lacks proper management? Like they still don’t have a coach or anyone to train them properly so they still feel like newbies aura-wise? I guess I might have to dive into the manga to see if they will get a coach later on. Also, Yamada was the POV character, yet he’s mainly in the shadows compared to Haruka and Kei, who are the real stars of the show.
The voice cast is actually very strong for an obscure sports anime like this. The five main characters are voiced by either big names or rising stars. Big name voice actors include Toshiki Masuda as Haruka, Mamoru Miyano as Kei, Yuki Kaji as Yamada and Nobunaga Shimazaki as Shunpei. Rising stars include Yohei Azakami as Aoi. I like the mix-match of big and rising stars for the cast. The supporting cast is no joke either. There’s Tomokazu Sugita as Teitoku’s coach, Takeo Otsuka, another rising star, as Kokuto, and Kengo Kawanishi as Kirishima. MAPPA really does pour a lot of money into a good voice cast.
The music and animation are pretty decent for MAPPA standards. The opening song is good, but when you realize the band is Mrs. Green Apple and then you look up the recent controversy they had regarding a rather questionable music video…yeah. But the opening song is still addicting. The ending song is a little meh. The animation is pretty good, especially with all the meta stuff, but Episode 11 is when it amped up a lot and looks amazing.
Oblivion Battery may not be the ideal baseball anime. I wouldn’t really recommend this as a baseball anime because it’s so short, but if you still like sports shows, I’m not going to prevent you from trying this anime out. It’s still a good show despite its many flaws. If you watched this show, what are your thoughts?

thank you for tagging me @ofdemonsandangels!! sadly I don't really know who's active on here anymore (it's been ages since I really checked into tumblr I'm sorry 😭) so if you want to play, I'll be happy if you take a tag from me!! 💖💖💖
Add 10 gifs from your favorite shows and tag 10 people
I don't know if I'll have 10 shows but I'll give it a shot under the cut!!
1. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (obviously, and it remains my number 1 love one year after the finale)
Tumblr media
2. New Mobile Report Gundam Wing (a surprise addition!! I wasn't rocking with it until I was well past episode 30 and next thing I know, I'm catching up with the mangas!!) (anyway did you know that charmuro crawled so 3x4 could walk so sulemio could run? like jesus I keep calling the whole thing a convoluted 3x4 love story but they really are so gay for each other even in the mangas I'm—!) (some characters are bi but jesus christ in a zero system, quatre and trowa are not they are fucking gay and gay for each other—!)
Tumblr media
3. Boukyaku Battery (the first season just finished but pls pls pls give it a shot it's so funny and the heartfelt scenes really are so very heartfelt) (also mamo's vocal skills and the animation come on!!!!!)
Tumblr media
(watch boukyaku battery)
4. Yuuki Bakuhatsu Bang Bravern (a wild obari masterpiece from start to finish. you want gays and robots? it's available on crunchy roll)
Tumblr media
(is this the most definitive bravern gif? trust me, it is) (sulemio and 3x4 may be gay but oh lord. oh lordy lordy)
5. Pluto (do you love crying as much as I do? do you love crying for inhuman humanoids who just want the best? well guess what!!!!!)
Tumblr media
6. Wolf's Rain (speaking of crying!!!!!!) (this one is also available on crunchy roll and if you're going to watch anything on there, let it be this)
Tumblr media
okok I think I can add some non-anime shows!!
7. The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House (for food lovers like me!!!! also it's just a very calm and sweet show, very reassuring and you get to root for everyone)
Tumblr media
8. Signal (if you're going to watch a k-drama watch this. it's ace attorney meets frequency the movie. I've never been desperate to binge a k-drama show and been excited for news of its continuation until this show) (the continuation is soon!!!!!)
Tumblr media
ok back to animes XD
9. Kuromukuroo (a hidden gem!!! love the historical speculation and the fluid robot motion animation and can I just say, one of the best love stories to have ever been concocted by an anime)
Tumblr media
10. Slam Dunk (i watched all 101 episodes of it!!!! and all of the movies and ovas!!! I felt surprisingly nostalgic for its brand of humor and man, you spend so much time with the boys, you grow to love them and cheer for them)

brother crab's spring 2024 parting thoughts (part 1)
doing this quickly and messily this season because it has been a very messy season for me (how... how did i get 50+ episodes behind at one point)
anyway LOADS OF PHENOMENAL STUFF THIS SEASON although i would not call it flawless sentai daishikkaku is still far and away the anime of the season for me (but more on this in parting thoughts part 2, since its season hasn't finished airing just yet)
THE GREATS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
kaijuu 8-gou was so much fun. imo it's a very typical battle shounen (but with an adult lead! fantastic) in that it hits all the beats you would expect a battle shounen to hit, but it hits them well. characters are fun, fights are dynamic, worldbuilding is solid and compelling (not terribly revolutionary, but it doesn't need to be)
it's overall just such a good time. hoshina im lov u. s2 please come soon
boukyaku battery was also phenomenal. easily one of the sports anime of all time. hilarious and riveting. the characters are so good, both as individuals and a team, and their backstories all unfolded so wonderfully. the visuals just get better and better. mappa let your staff rest but also. damn. undeniably good work
and todochi!! todochi forever!!! terrible fucking boyfriends (affectionate)
wind breaker was super solid all around as well, i haven't seen toman myself but i keep hearing that it's like toman if toman were good (lmao i'm so sorry to hear this toman enjoyers, stay strong)
oddly enough i'm not possessed with like... and overabundance of super strong feelings towards the characters, though. they're all really fun to watch, and i definitely plan on continuing the series, but i'm not quite rotating them in my head all the time. still good stuff though
THE GOODS (THE VERY GOODS)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
astro note should be in the greats honestly but i'm trying to do three per section in this post, but it was just a delight through and through. there was nothing i didn't enjoy about this. takumi you are such a shit (affectionate)
tadaima okaeri... honestly i'm really happy with this adaptation! not only for voice actor reasons (but yes mostly for voice actor reasons) but like put next to all bl adaptations, this one imo does a lot very, very right
i adore the series itself too, did a quick reread before the series started airing and it really is just so wholesome and sweet. but personally i find it a stronger family (and found family) story than a romance, like where it really shines is its exploration of community and generational trauma despite best intentions. which is i imagine not what many people expect from an omegaverse bl but there it is
yozakura-san chi no daisakusen is continuing on into next season (i forgor) but i think it's pretty solidly made its home in this tier for me. it's a lot of wacky, zany fun, and really a delight to watch every week, but it doesn't really stay on my mind afterwards. so just, good stuff!
THE NOT BADS (OR AT LEAST NOT TERRIBLES)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
jii-san baa-san wakagaeru was actually overall really enjoyable to me! lots of really deep, poignant moments, an ending that... i shan't say, and loads of quality humor and sweet family moments
but it came out the gate real strong with a first episode that was rife with grandpafucker jokes so i feel like a lot of people might not have made it to the poignant stuff which, fair enough lol. wouldn't say this is something that can't be missed, but really wasn't bad all told
sasakoi... tragically... had i think a pretty strong start but alas. production issues have reared their head and the animation quality in particular got worse and worse throughout
personally i'm not that much a fan of the drama either. the main relationship is pretty cute, but the drama surrounding them... honestly i just couldn't get invested. but that's solely a personal taste thing
as for re:monster... the less said the better. never in my life have i seen a show that more obviously wanted to be a hentai but wasn't
THE SEQUELS/CONTINUATIONS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
obviously dungeon meshi was excellent no one needs me to say anything about that
yuru camp s3... i can understand the criticisms, i can understand not vibing with the new art style. but tbh i personally still enjoyed it immensely, it's still cozy, it's still cute, i couldn't really ask for more
hashira training arc my beloved. i can't really give an unbiased review of this one because i love u genyaaaaaaaaa. and gentaaaaaan. god this was such a good arc for them. anyway
shockingly enough i think that is... all i watched this season? (besides yatagarasu and sentai daishikkaku, but more on those later)
i thought there were more than just these but i don't see anything else in my activity log
so basically EXTREMELY STRONG SEASON aots will be decided in like... 20 hours

brother crab's spring 2024 first impressions: spring 2024
ok ok ok now that everything's had at least one episode out i am finally finalizing my list with a rough preliminary ranking of everything
tl;dr for me? sentai daishikkaku and kaijuu 8-gou in the lead so far (and BY far)
top 3: sentai daishikkaku, kaijuu 8-gou, wind breaker (and shockingly yes in that order)
this is pretty unexpected for me because wind breaker was one of my most anticipated series of the season, and i knew nothing about the other two
kaijuu 8-gou had an incredible first episode, if it keeps that up i think it'll be an easy anime of the season. but sentai daishikkaku also had a great first ep and really won me over with its second, so if it stays just as compelling... also a strong contender
wind breaker so far is really good, but it doesn't feel like anything i haven't seen before, i guess. i don't mean that in a bad way! familiar comforts are, well, comfortable. nothing wrong with that
but sentai daishikkaku feels very fresh and unique to me, and i'm rather partial to kaijuu 8-gou with it featuring an older cast of characters, so those two have a bit more of my attention for now
ALSO GREAT: yuru camp s3, boukyaku battery, tadaima okaeri, sasayaku you ni koi wo utau
THRILLED to be able to put both the yaoi of the season and the yuri of the season in this category. tadaima okaeri is cuter than words can expression, this is for sure going to be a highlight of my week every week. sasayaku also had such a cute and fun first episode! i'm an anime only for this one so will be looking forward to where the story goes (and hoping it stays that good)
yuru camp is yuru camp. what else needs to be said. extremely cute
boukyaku battery had a very compelling start too, definitely comes close to a top 3 for me after one episode. the seiyuu cast is really crushing it
REALLY FUN: astro note, yozakura-san chi no daisakusen
both enjoyable and entertaining, set just ever-so-slightly down a tier from the others for me for now, but feel like they both have even more room to grow on me (and already did grow on me between eps 1 and 2)
not bad: jii-san baa-san wakagaeru, re:monster
jii-san baa-san is honestly not quite what i hoped it'd be, it's heavier on the gag comedy than i would've wished. i think i would've preferred more of a softer, warmer, iyashikei-type slice of life series. but! that is not the show's fault, and it is not bad for what it is
re:monster isn't really outstanding but i'm having a good enough time for what it is also
in both cases i'm really liking the cast. mikishin is just so perfect for the grandpa voice, and satotaku is satotaku
dropped: the fable, hibike euphonium s3 (LET ME EXPLAIN)
hibike is not actually dropped of course lmao it is one of the ones i was most looking forward to, but before i started i decided to take it off my list for this season. i watched both of the previous seasons after they were out and really want to binge this one too, instead of going week by week, so it's not a drop so much as a pushed off for later
as for the fable... it feels like a shame to say it, but i wasn't vibing with this one. the manga scores or so high so maybe it's just a sense of humor that didn't translate well into anime form for me, or maybe it's just a sense of humor that's not for me full stop
either way i think i'm going to call it quits on this one even though i wanted to check it out for the cast
the only series i haven't started yet is karasu wa aruji wo erabanai because of some funky streaming timeline for the first ep... and now two are out so i have to catch up...... still looking forward to this one but alas i will have to get to it when i get to it
