vent post about this whole brand thing because i'm spiraling about it
disclaimer: i don't know shit about brand deals, this is just an average person's perspective on the whole deal
disclaimer no. 2: i'm generally pretty anti-"designer" brand so there's also that.
so fucking crazy to me that hybe decided to send enha to fucking milan for a prada event only to turn around and have sunghoon do a shoot with l'oreal paris of all things.
taking into consideration the fact that it's pretty common for idols and other celebrities to work with designer brands for brand deals because... obvi. it makes them look cool and chic and it's expensive and it brings in a lot of money to both companies so it just makes sense. it's just shocking and surprising to me that they then turned around and posted photos of sunghoon (who has all the makings of being kpop's next fucking it boy) doing a brand shoot with l'oreal paris, a drugstore brand.
and really, it's not even that i'm angry about the whole thing they're playing both sides of the market. of course they are, it's just good business dealings, i just think that anyone who's paying attention can see how fucking silly it is that they're doing deals with both brands.
and i say this because prada recently released a product that's color changing lip balm that does the same thing as every other fucking color changing lip balm on the market in that it reacts to your lips ph and then turns pink. yes, okay, great, you're getting in on the market but they're also charging 50 fucking USD for it. when i own a color changing lip balm that i bought, from the brand winky lux, for 14 USD.
that is almost 4x the upcharge for the fucking name PRADA being slapped on the outside of the tube. in all actuality, it's probably almost the exact same formula.
i bring this up because enha actually promoted this product. they promoted it on their insta w/ prada, the brand. meanwhile you have l'oreal paris, that while it doesn't sell a color changing lip balm it Does sell a balm-in-lipstick, which is a lightweight color lipstick that has a balm-like formula (think tinted lip balm, i suppose) and guess how much it fucking costs?
10.99 USD. 11 Dollars. less than a quarter of the price of the fucking prada color changing lip balm that you can get from any other fucking brand.
i'm not angry they're promoting a brand that is basically gouging it's clientele for it's brand name. pay whatever you want for whatever you want. if the brand matters that much to you, it's your money you're wasting not mine. i just think it's fucking hilarious that enha promoted a product that cost 50 USD only for hybe to turn around and have a member Of The Same Group promote a brand that sells basically the same products for less than a quarter of the price. it makes them look silly.
now don't get me wrong. i think it's great that idols are promoting drug store products. they're way more accessible to a much larger group of their demographic, it makes them look more relatable, it generally put them in a better light but i AM curious to see how this affects the trends in the industry as well as the sales of the brand in question.
will this cause more companies and groups to start promoting drugstore brands? i don't know, it's not super likely, but at the same time, enha is nothing if not trendsetting. unfortunately, money talks and as enha brings in more cash and more notoriety to their company, more companies are going to want their groups to be like them. that can include following in the trend and having their groups promote more inexpensive and accessible brands. it could make them look good by doing such a thing.
and as for brand sales, you have to take into consideration the fact that because the brands are more accessible, it's more likely that they'll see a real change in their sales in comparison to a designer brand.
prada probably has not seen a huge difference in their sales since doing brand dealings with enhypen because not a whole lot of enha's demo can afford prada products. there are a few here and there, trust fund kids, rich kids, older fans that make their own money, etc, etc, but far less than people who could afford l'oreal paris products.
take for instance, i own l'oreal paris products. my own mom owns l'oreal paris products. there are some people who swear by l'oreal paris' make up or skin products, and that makes sense. they're super accessible, you can buy them at wal*mart, for goodness' sake! the added promotion from a kpop idol could genuinely boost their sales a decent amount because it's not out of reach for the average person. a high school student, a college student, a minimum wage employee, you see the big picture.
the fact is, in comparison to prada, l'oreal paris could see real change in their sales and product counts, but what does that mean for their price points? what does it mean for the brand as a whole? only time will tell.
this whole brand thing is just so crazy to me, the fact that hybe has decided to have enha play both ends of the spectrum makes them look, to me, lowkey silly.

What are the 5 main categories of cosmetic products?
The cosmetic industry is diverse in nature. It is huge, it is divided into two sections – the drugstore products and the luxe products range. The drugstore range is economical, affordable, and has a huge clientele. Whereas on the other hand, so is the luxury range of cosmetic products? The high-end and international cosmetic brands too have a large market. You can see all the celebs and makeup artists endorsing these luxury cosmetic brands. The drugstore is you can say a copy of all the luxe brand products at affordable range so that others can also use.
There are many Indian companies that produce drugstore cosmetics. From eyeliner kajal pencils to gel liners and liquid liners, from glitter eye shadows to liquid and matte shadows, from matte liquid lipsticks to bullet lipsticks, the highlighters and blushers and body glitters, you have everything available in the drugstore range. The latest additions are the cheek and lip tints by numerous drugstore Indian brands.
The vast majority who work in the beauty business for large to medium estimated organizations have some expertise in one sort of herbal product.
Cosmetic Products Categories –
Formulators at contract producers or advisors have significantly more occasion to chip away at the various sorts of restorative items, however even they are restricted by the activities that come to them. If you need to be a finished restorative physicist and expand your vocation adaptability, you ought to find out about the items in every corrective classification and the nuts and bolts of how to make those recipes. The initial step to that is to know the items in every one of the classifications.
The restorative item industry is one of the quickly developing areas in the most recent decade. The utilization of restorative items has expanded massively lately, which represents its development. Alongside numerous synthetic compounds, the utilization of homegrown herbal products has increased. In the most recent years, there has been a rise in herbal product manufacturers and small homegrown businesses. They are contributing largely by producing natural cosmetics over chemical-based cosmetic products.
There are a ton of items that are both produced and imported from different nations. These items fall under five significant classifications dependent on the body part on which it is utilized and the motivation behind it.
Haircare range
Skincare range
Personal care range
Face care range
Treatment range
Skincare range
represents around 30% of all cosmetics. This is the biggest market that is captured by various high-end and drugstore brands. The skincare range is the only range that is the biggest among any other ranges. Skincare items include all sorts of creams, powders, serums, essential oils, face washes, scrubs and toners, body lotion, sunscreen lotions, and the list is endless. There are so many items and products in this category that you really need to be a pro at using these cosmetic products.
Hair care ranges
Haircare items are the second most famous and hot selling cosmetic products. 2020 has taught me so many things. And one of them is the use of homegrown, herbal, and vegan products. Numerous small to medium brands and even homegrown brands have got the opportunity to launch various haircare range. This new range is unique and simple. Herbal packs, herbal shampoos according to all hair types, herbal hair serum, oils, and whatnot. Herbal packs, masks, and oils have been the most popular herbal cosmetic products in 2020. And they will continue to be so.
Like the skincare gathering, hair items can likewise be sorted by how they work and what they do. The hair items most often bought are the ones intended to eliminate things from the hair, similar to shampoos. Some are intended to be left on like leave-in conditioners, hair gels, fundamental oils, and so forth.
Face care range
This class incorporates natural beauty care products that must be utilized, especially on the face. These scope of items sort of cover with the skincare items. This scope of classification represents 30% of market deals. The thing that matters is while all the face care items are on the skin, not all skincare items can be utilized on the face. A portion of the face care items incorporate face wash, face clean, toner, sun creams, face packs, facial units, face gels, serums, and so forth.
Personal care range
Other individual consideration items are the new excellence item class. This class represents around 15 to 20% of the market deals. These incorporate items for oral consideration, for example, toothpaste, mouthwash, and brightening items. They additionally incorporate cleansers, washing gel, cleansers, rubbing oils, intimate washes, and so on. These are as important as any other range. After all, you cannot neglect personal care items.
Treatment care range
This kind of treatment care item is intended to fix explicit skin or hair issues. For instance, there is a particular sort of cream that is focused to fix skin break out, acne scars, pigmentation, freckles, and aging signs. The same goes for your hair issues like extreme hair fall, dandruff treatment, baldness, etc. there are so many products in each range that you have to address your issues and then only use the products.
There are also brands that have come up with various solutions like customized skincare and hair care packages. They will get you to fill an online form wherein all your skin/hair types will be asked, and accordingly, the doctors and cosmetologists will customize various products for you. Seems this lockdown has rather brought new opportunities for small-scale business owners this year.

my take on the literary masterpiece, the chic diet
Firstly, I am no one. It’s part of my charm. My fifteen minutes of fame was years ago, when I had an instagram niche meme page. I didn’t even take any brand deals! And my posts averaged six thousand likes! Anyhow. I am hardly literate and well hydrated and carry a small sephora-CVS-hybrid worth in my mini tote bag. Here is my guide on how to live like me, the intermediate kitsch-rat, aspiring influencer. But like, in an apathetic, somewhat dissonant, ironic way. I like saying I live by dogmatic principles. But a lot of it, um, is just eating disorder rituals. But that’s not really important. You’re as hot as you say you are, and as much an authority on what you write so long as you say it with, you know, conviction. It’s kind of venerable how fucking delusional I am, actually. Giving any sort of advice like I’m anywhere close to the ritzy ideal of the amphetamine-areyouami label-american. New York, ideally. West Village, preferably. But I guess the kind of guide I can write is better suited to someone living in a suburb, in a house with the twelve-paned windows. I always thought those were so chic. SO quaint, in a somewhat luxe way. Like, Connecticut vibes. My parents used to drive me up there as a child to buy books and ice cream. Nowadays I’d opt for a matcha latte with novelty ice cubes, but I guess at the time it was pretty sweet.
Because I popped a Vyvanse at like, 10pm, this next little bit could go one of two ways. I will write the most articulate, brilliant piece of literature of my life. Magnum opus, if there was a skinnier word for it. Or, I will get wrapped up doing something like folding all my last-season knits (which is part of my look, okay! I don’t have a job!) and fixating on a paragraph on how a girl’s collarbones are almost as identifying as a fingerprint, or a signature. I’m not a graphologist, but if you write your A’s with the little tail on top (like on a computer), you’re probably a snake. Nothing personal, just an observation. Also, I do have a biology final to study for. Not that I’m super anal, or even particularly committed to academia, but even in my precariously manicured (read that as separate terms; I did a good job on my nail polish, okay? But I happen to also be teetering on the brink of an epiphany or a collapse. Hence the use of the word precarious.) state, I know it’s important enough I can let one of my countless side-quests sit idle for a couple more days.
The first section seems only natural to be about hydration. And the whole idea of drinking things, really. There was a section in The Chic Diet about Adderall dry-mouth, which deeply resonated with me. Once I bit off a chunk of a Nivea Strawberry Shine (my favorite lip balm, more on that later) and swished it around my mouth. Didn’t help. Really, really didn’t. Anyway, I suppose that even if it served no purpose for combatting my prevacatingly ingenious cottonmouth solution, I was able to milk a sentence or two out of the experience. “Do it for the Vine”, all grown up! And wearing bananapapaya resin hoops too. Side note, that Etsy shop is a parasocial enemy of mine. It stems from jealousy, which sucks, but hating from inside a club I’m adjacent to is much healthier than being a hateful individual towards people I would, you know, interact with. Daily. Or something. I stopped going to therapy because I felt stupid about going and I don’t live in the right kind of town to warrant vacuous $300 hours. Bitching about my well-adjusted parents and how desperately I wished my anxiety would just “go away” was plainly gross, and a waste. Like, pretty sure almost every problem I have could be solved by a couple painful conversations taking place during a hurricane. Such a shame it doesn’t rain much here. Anyhow, I digress.
Staying hydrated. It is essential to my character, my persona, if you will; to never be without either an elegant metal bottle (I’m loyal to the smooth enamelled S’well ones, printed to look like marble or a semi holographic solid) or a little 16oz tumbler with a metal straw. Hydroflasks were some of the worst things to happen to society. I want to preface this claim with the fact that I wanted one in the same way a teenage girl wants a new iPhone so she can keep up appearances with her dermatologist-dad friends who still have the XR, by the way. But I ended up spending the money on like, a minidress at Brandy Melville before it fled my city. Or maybe a Fresh Sugar tinted lipbalm. For the better, even though the dress has a busted zipper now and the lipbalm tube has inevitably gotten dinged and dented by the other contents of my mini-totebag. Unlike a car, though, a couple scuffs on your laptop or your luxury lipbalm tube looks kind of cool. Like, you’re not someone who values the pristine, unused quality of an item that was ambiguously intended to be used versus displayed on Instagram.  Now, I’m wondering why this paragraph about hydration is so fucking impossible to stay on track for. I literally drink several litres of water a day, and more tea on top of that. And sometimes an almond milk latte if I can budget it in. Not that I’m so anorexic I can’t afford a 45cal latte. They’re just not that important to me. Anyhow. Drinking lukewarm (on the cool side) water is better than ice-cold. Partially because I just get it out of the tap of my ensuite and I can’t be bothered to wait for it to run cold enough every time, and it just seems wasteful. Plus, there is something so.. skinny about drinking water at an “obscure” temperature. Trust me, I want to know why my thought process is like this too. My favorite tea is blueberry tea foraged in a side aisle at my local supermarket. I love a good commercial, high-end steep or fruit infusion as much as the next girl. Maybe more. My pantry is filled with tins labelled with things like “emerald jade organic” and “magic potion”, which is really just currants and butterfly pea flowers. But there is a necessary glamor about drinking dirt-cheap tea on the daily. Seriously, a box of 25 sachets is like, $3. At a higher point with my, um, Adderall problem, I spent like several times that on pills. I didn’t really need to include that, and could have linked the price point to the cost of a drugstore lipbalm, but I wrote it in. And I’m married to it, stubbornly, as all amateur writers should be when they wittle in a somewhat indecorous little joke. This tea is sooo good because it has a strong fruit-reminiscent taste (not as sweet as a fresh blueberry, but who wants that anyway?), it’s zero-calorie, it’s the most GORGEOUS color ever. The latte, the third drink in my little trifecta, is nothing special. But necessary. The trick is to use a milk frother to whip up sugar free syrup with instant coffee and a little bit of hot water in a glass. It’ll make the most luscious foam.. Top it off with almond milk. My dad is a coffee purist, owning both an upstairs keurig AND a downstairs one (among other more analogue methods, but I can’t name-drop, so what’s the point?), so he hates this drink. Now, calling oneself a plebian is so unglamorous and teetering on self-deprecating territory, dangerously close to insecurity. But I can use it here because I am at least posh enough to have a different pair of earrings for every outfit I could possibly come up with, and I only wear Patagonia if I am in a situation where I just have to wear fleece. Like I was saying. It’s such a simple drink, certainly not a delicacy, and… I had a joke about the word plebian but I keep getting up to refill my water and I fear I have forgotten about it.
Next section; the importance of a good tinted balm
In the intro I alluded to how a girl’s collarbones function essentially as an identifier, the way a signature or fingerprint does. This is a lie, or at least an exaggeration. But one’s ultimate tinted lipbalm is  actually extremely indicative about who you are, as a person, as a member of society, even…
If you are loyal to Dior Lipglow, I have a couple questions. One; did you shoplift one tube, once, and refill it with cheaper stuff afterwards? I did that. I consider it one of my better-kept secrets, but now you know. Might as well explain the catalyst for my parent’s first separation now, and the horrifying experience that was meeting my dad’s Manhattan sugar baby (?) at the age of thirteen, wearing an overalls dress from, like, Topshop or something else equally embarrassing. .. Kidding. I digress. It’s such a fancy lipbalm, and good too! It smells like thin mints! But I could just never justify cell phone monthly installation payment money on something I will inevitably talk off. I do own three, but two I stole (before I lost the nerve, somewhat unfortunately) and one, a boy(not)friend bought for me. This is not something I feel any remorse about, because his house was easily four thousand square feet and his sisters had a dedicated all-glass room for their shared peloton. Oil money. Ugh!
My personal favorite lip balm, and I have tried a frightening amount, has got to be the Nivea Fruit Shine collection. The frosted one is shit-ugly. Hideous. But the strawberry one is the love of my life. It’s such a pleasant red, looking healthy and rejuvenated and really completes any look. Only downside is it will always, hopefully not always, remind me of Charles. Kissing Charles, specifically. And him asking me what lipbalm it was, because he knew I was somewhat frivolous and definitive and would have a very long answer. But for whatever reason, I simply stated it was from “out of town”. Not really sure why I said that, but it plagues me (minorly) to this day. Of all the things to make up.. .. The peach one is a perfectly demure spring classic shade. Cherry exists too, but the only tube I have ever had the fortune of owning was purchased in Costa Rica and lost somewhere on the way home. Honestly tragic, it was the juiciest shade. Blackberry is perfect too, but I have to layer it with either peach or untinted lipbalm to avoid what I imagine TooPoor would choose if she believed in tinted lipbalm. I don’t mean this hatefully, I think she’s a queen, but super dark, smudgy makeup suits the eyes better in my opinion. Or something. Or something.
Afraid to bore the reader, I have to move on now. Maybe at a later date I will release an addendum on my ultimate lipbalm buying guide. But also, that is so deeply personal (and everyone needs the excuse of “hunting for the perfect staple shade!!”), so it is really not my place to have any authority on something so intimate and subjective. Etcetera.
Moving on; Decorating your room
Here is a section I lifted out of my memoir document. It fits, because as enigmatic as I hope I am, I am also quite unchanging.
I just pushed three hangers and two tiny strappy tops with the tags still on, off my bed. Most nights, all, these days, actually; I spend in my large but cluttered bedroom. I have a little ensuite with a jetted tub I’ve never used because I just never get around to it. There’s a plush grey rug, spanning the expanse of the room (covering an ugly cherry wood that doesn’t match the rest of the house; no clue why. I never asked, and the previous owners were eager to sell so they could finally ditch this town and retire in Montreal for the bagels, or Hawaii for the monk seals. Point is, I’ll never know) with loose beads and loose pills and little shards of glass from plier-crushed beads. I vacuum every day. The whole room tells you exactly the kind of person I am; the clutter I possess, the encapsulation of the projects I start, start, start and the hours I don’t sleep for and the clothes I tried on (these to sell, these to cut up with kitchen scissors; thrifted lululemon and aritzia and heaps of knits and plaid fabric..) I would not say the room is a mess. Lived in, maybe. Chopsticks and mugs and gum wrappers. Single dangle earrings. I just finished the last of my Creme Brulee eos lipbalm; disguised as a relic of 2015, I was gifted it Christmas of ‘20. I think my next waxy conquest will be a tinted Burt’s one I palmed a while back, before I lost the nerve. Peering around the room you will see shopping bags strewn about the mouth of my walk-in closet. Every surface has something shiny or colorful stacked up on it. Cluttered, busy, but intentional. Except for the walls, which are bare. Bare and gray and miles-tall when I lie flat on my back, high out of my mind, willing things to change but knowing I’m responsible for a first step I will always be too scared for. Bare, pristine, no gumtack. Empty, Like they’re waiting. I wait around a lot. It makes sense. That was an awful lot of words about my stupid blank walls when truly it does not bother me that much; I really just don’t get around to it. I have other things on the ground to tend to, like post-email nausea, addressing envelopes, marrying wire and bead.  Writing a document I care about because I am determined and I am alive, alive, alive, goddammit.
Excerpt over. The memoir is coming out when I get famous, or something earth shattering happens. Like I become the world’s least remarkable entrepreneur, and I get retweeted by Colorpop. I don’t want to be the next Elizabeth Wurtzel. I read two of her memoirs one restless night, absorbing it to make up for the nutrients I didn’t that day (you can laugh. I think that is pretty clever), heart breaking a little bit. She writes about her struggles so intrinsically, you either get it, or you don’t. Anyway. She had the books and the fame from it, and she wrote more memoirs than I think a single person should. That is admirable. Aspirational, even. But I do not want to be like her. Where was I? Oh. Yes. Decorating/adorning/filling your room. Your room should serve as the kind of place to watch a movie (if you believe in film. I don’t) and put on ridiculous glittery eye makeup, or smoke an ~artistic cigarette~ or stay up all night on the phone, which is different from staying up all night simply on your phone. Chatting with someone you are tepidly in love with is much more exciting. Not chic as the whole affair is so juvenile, but fun regardless. It’s somewhere to keep your worldly possessions, too. I know I have a lot! Also, it is kind of thrilling to hide things in your room in little crevices only you know about. Now, unfortunately, everyone reading this will know too. But, like, I trust you not to really.. do anything about it. I keep my extra juul pods in the sliding box my apple pencil came in. That box is almost more useful than the pencil itself. I’m somewhat morally opposed to the iPad. Whole culture is so embarrassing! I have a tea tin with an ounce of golden teacher shrums in it. This is tossed in my closet among tins filled with other things, like lace trim and buttons. Which makes it actually a pretty terrible hiding spot, I see now… Anyhow. Keeping benign little secrets like that is so fun. You can tell I don’t have siblings. I sort of wish I did, but it is easier to believe there is something aristocratic about being an only child. Not sure if older-sister me would be egalitarian enough to share things. But that’s prophesying, which is kind of a waste of time. I live in the now, in a room positively cluttered with meaningless things that mean the world to me, chewing on my lip because my mouth is just so dry and 5gum is just not an after-8 indulgence. To live truly kitschly, you have to have somewhat hideous decor. Now, do not confuse dissonant, or incoherent, with what I mean by “hideous decor”. The kitsch room has as many surfaces to look at as possible, while also shying away from too many shelving units. Then you risk your room looking like a storage unit or something. When my mom renovated (re: paid someone to do it) our New York house so we could sell it, all our stuff was stacked up in a Cubesmart self storage. It was sort of horrifying, seeing my childhood home reduced to plastic storage tubs piled what felt like thirty feet high. Anyway. It’s just not an  inviting way to store things; I imagine it makes your room look like your stuff is all trapped in gelatin. The more fussy, tiny things you have out in the open, the better. Nail polish. Earring trees. Bowls full of rings and lighters and water color pans perched on your windowsill. A rack with the tackiest assortment of knits and bucket hats and baguette bags. And so forth.. Quickly surveying someone’s room is so telling. Bonus points if all your books are spine-in, except for your favorite ones, because you don’t want people to get the wrong idea. (that you read).

Everyday Makeup Recs and Tips
So before you even start you want to make sure you have a good skincare routine. I’m not an esthetician, so I’m not going to make recommendations for you as to what to use because everyone’s skin is different, but that being said here are some basics. Always wash your face twice a day even if you don’t wear makeup; once in the morning and then at night. I personally only cleanse my face once a day, at night after I take my makeup off. I remove my makeup and then use a Clairsonic with my cleanser. In the morning, I only wash my face with water as too much cleanser tends to dry out my skin. I do use Thayers witch hazel both morning and night as well as my Peter Thomas Roth Potent C Vitamin Eye Cream. I moisturizer day and night as well. I use a moisturizer with an SPF in it for day, but if you know you’re going to be in the sun for an extended period of time you may want to use a separate sunscreen as well.
Now on to makeup…haha! I go back and forth about what I do first, but we’ll start with eyes in case you have fall out. I have a ton of different products, but the eyeshadows I love are from MAC, Lorac (Which creates a ton of fall out), KKW Beauty, and Anastasia of Beverly Hills. I’m not a fan of Urban Decay, I think all their shades are the same. If you’re looking for a neutral look, I love the Lorac LUX Diamond palette, $39 for 20 shades or MAC Amber Times Nine, which is nine shades for $32 but their shades last a bit longer than Lorac. I always prep my eyelid with concealer, MAC paint pot in Painterly or Tarte 12-hour Eye Primer. This will make your eyeshadow last longer. For this example, I’ll use the Lorac colors. I always put a base color like Carat on first all over the lid, so that I have a neutral base to start. I then take a color like Grand and go into the crease, sweeping it from the outer to the inner crease, using a tapered blending brush. All my brushes are MAC but really any brushes will do. I blend that up just slightly above the crease so that there is not a stark line (Blending is key). Then I go back in with a color like Lavish in the deep crease, only blending it midway, this color I will not blend up, but more in a v down to the outer corner or lid. (FYI I always tap the excess off the brush before going to apply it to the lid). I’ll take a color like Exclusive and do the outer crease/lid in that v as well darkening that look. (Honestly I’ve never written this out, so I may look for a couple pics to add in. I’m much better at demonstration.) Once everything is very blended, I’ll take the tip of my finger and go into a color like VIP or Crystal (This color is not orange like shown online), and start on the inner corner and tap that color in, then I’ll take a clean blending brush and blend it into the middle and outer lid. Lastly, I’ll take a color like Diamonds and sweep it across the brow bone lightly. So you should get a look similar to this, minus the eyeliner:
Tumblr media
(not my photo via  bydrie.com but the link is old and the pic is no longer there. I’ve had it saved)
If I want it to be dramatic, I’ll line both the eye and the waterline on the lid (like the photo is). Yes the waterline is a bitch to line. I really love Marc Jacob Highliner Gel crayon but it’s $26 dollars, so that’s a bit steep I know, but it really goes on nice and stays on. Personally, certain eyeliners tend to wear funny on me, so I use this on my bottom waterline and then smudge it in and it stays all day. I have used Maybelline EyeStudio Master Precise All Day Liquid Eyeliner as well on the upper lid and I do like this and the way it wears; I also like to use this if I do a winged eye as well (which is rare and I don’t do on an everyday look).
Let’s move on to foundation. Doing your eyes first gives a time for your moisturizer to sink into your sink, which I like; but that’s just me. If you have and blemishes, roscia or dark spots you’re looking to cover, use a color corrector. Sephora $14 (and have been on special for $7) has some great easily blendable ones. Green for red spots and peach to cover the dark. I recommend only doing these if you’re not using an airbrush foundation. Apply them before your foundation and just blend them out lightly, they help neutralize the skin. I use a beauty blender to blend both this and the foundation in. My go to foundations, Tarte Face Tape, MAC’s Studio Fix Fluid (a great dupe that I have used for MAC in a pinch is Revlon Colorstay if you’re looking for a drugstore brand)
I follow up with my undereye concealer, my absolute must have on this is Tarte Shape Tape concealer. I usually use it in a shade lighter than my foundation to brighten my eye. I blend it out with a small beauty blender (obviously this is the cheaper version at Walmart or Target because I throw this away after a month, kind of like a loofah).
If you like to contour, now’s the time. A cheap one that I like is ELF Contour Palette. If you’re a beginner, start off with a powder it’s easier to use, but feel free to try the cream. My key advice, you are not a Kardashian doing a photo shoot, so do not leave this huge line separating your contour on your face. Blend that shit out, you’ll just look fake if you don’t.
Tumblr media
(Found this pic on google and this is a great example, minus the tip of the nose contour.)
Set the look with a setting powder, this is a translucent loose powder so it won’t make you look caked on or fake like pressed powder does. ELF makes a very inexpensive one $6, it’s their high definition powder. I just use a face brush for this. I’ll then add some blush. I love, love, love NARS orgasm, it literally goes with everything. A great dupe for this, but is hard to find is Mary Kay Shy Blush. Apply to the apples of your cheeks for that extra glow. I don’t recommend a highlighter for an everyday look. I’ll also use a setting spray like MAC fix+ or Tarte or Morphe, you can literally use anyone that you like. I think I have 4 on my counter right now…haha. I do this before my mascara because I always blink and that shit isn’t dry and then it’s everywhere.
So now mascara, I’m going to just take this from my bridal tips:
Mascara, I recommend waterproof if you’re a crier like me...lol. I’m a fan of Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Splashes. I usually prep with Lancome’s CIL Booster XL Enhancing Lash Primer, it helps keep my lashes separated, but if you don’t want to spend the money on that, take a little of that translucent powder I talked about earlier, coat an old mascara wand, or a disposable one with the powder and brush it onto your lashes before adding mascara. I’ve done this little trick numerous time and it works like a charm. You can also wear fake lashes, if you don’t have a pair that you like, Adrell has great ones that look natural and so does Eylure. I always use Duo lash glue when I wear them as well.
Another mascara I like is Maybelline Lash Sensational. I feel like it doesn’t clump and wears very well. If you don’t like your lashes and are looking to get them fuller and longer I totally recommend in getting Grande Lash  MD Lash Enhancing Serum ($65). It’s a commitment, you need to put it on every night in the beginning but it does work. Also the tiny tube will last about 3 to 4 months.
Phew I think that’s it for now. If you have any questions, feel free to send them to inbox or DM me. I love sharing tips!!!

What luxury products do you recommend? What drugstore products are must haves? What do you use to determine which foundation is a good shade vs which requires to be mixed? What shade of lipstick do you think anyone could pull off?
luxury products i recommend:
hourglass in general, but specifically the veil translucent setting powder, (especially if you have dry skin), vanish stick foundation (best for dry/combo and in the spring/summer, my fav foundation ever to exist), and their scattered light glitter eyeshadows. I want to try more from them since they’re such a high quality brand but so expensive lmao. but in my opinion worth it!
tatcha, specifically the silk canvas primer and water cream moisturizer. i’m currently on my second silk canvas, that’s how much of a ride or die it is for me. there is a serious difference in the application of makeup as well as prolonged longevity every time i use it. i use it on conjunction with the first aid beauty coconut smoothie moisturizing primer for some dewiness but i can never do my makeup without it. i even wear it along to smooth out my skin and reduce my redness. it’s truly a luxury product that i cannot recommend enough. the water cream is a fantastic moisturizer because it adds so much hydration while being extremely light weight and sinking into skin almost immediately and also effortlessly. for winter, it has been such a must have, especially if you have sensitive skin.
marc jacobs highliners and lip glosses. both have beautiful formulas and last forever, especially the eyeliners, i just wish they weren’t so expensive lmao.
i’m not entirely sure if nars counts as luxury, and i don’t purchase them anymore since they are no longer cruelty free, but some products from them that i still adore are the natural radiant foundation, their highlighters, and the climax mascara. i miss the foundation so so much, if they ever go cruelty free again i am purchasing at least 3 lmao
as well as the lancome teint idole foundation, another incredible foundation i can no longer purchase but still adore and always recommend.
you said luxury and not high end so i won’t include those recommendations in this ask, but if you’d like those as well just let me know i’d be more than happy to include them!
now for drugstore/affordable must have products:
colourpop all the way, specifically their eyeshadows, super shock highlighters, and lip products. my favorite palettes from them are yes please, dream st, and through my eyes. my favorite super shock highlighters are flexitarian and on the cusp. my favorite lip products are hands down their lux lipsticks, and my favorite shades include appy, boy, and lay over. i also really enjoy their ultra glossy lips, such as moonchild and drippin. i don’t always love their ultra matte lips, but the one in the shade suene de coco is a beautiful nude and i absolutely adore it.
flower beauty makes the most beautiful cream blushes which are the blush bombs. they are a dupe for the glossier cloud paints, and are much dewier and in my opinion sheer out a lot more easily. my favorite shade is pinched, i wear it almost every single day.
nyx makes the best liquid liner hands down. they have both a liquid and pen version and are both fantastic. i also loooove their glitter primer and butter glosses.
physician’s formula’s whole butter line is fantastic, such as their butter bronzer, blushes, and highlighters.
makeup revolution’s extra spice eyeshadow palette with sophdoesnails is seriously one of my favorite affordable palettes. it’s such high quality and has a great range of colors, the price is pretty insane for it if you ask me (only $15 for 18 shades!)
juvia’s place makes incredible affordable eyeshadow palettes as well.
for foundation matching, i suggest going in store and using the testers to see what shade is closest to your neck and if there’s no exact shade, then mix the two shades in between.
for shades of lipsticks anyone can pull off, imo mauve nudes. i feel like literally everyone looks good in a mauvey or peachy nude.

My dress. I only looked at anything less than 1k, but my mom wound up pulling a dress I hadn considered on a whim and it was perfect (and 1.7k!!!!!). We also shelled out more for a string quartet for the ceremony so we can walk down the aisle to Lord of the Rings and up the aisle to Under the Sea. L Pro Glow is $13 at Ulta, and it $23 at the drugstore here. But Sephora and department stores do a good job of matching the price with conversion, sometimes they work out to being a dollar or two less than the US prices. Which is why I rarely buy drugstore makeup at all.. Hate to add yet another edit, and I too lazy to TLDR this mess so I apologize. But I thought of another related thing I been experiencing and I think I be remiss if I didn mention it. I thought of it earlier but then forgot about it before I could edit and I just randomly remembered. When I was going through the thick of my case, I found 담양출장안마 myself so annoyed with the stupidity of my former boss. One day, my bf looked at me and was like, "Southernkitsune, you keep getting so upset they submitted this half baked paperwork, but you worked with these guys. They have never shown a great aptitude for anything else other than great stupidity.". Bite Chai turns into a straight up brown on me. Same goes for Velvet Teddy and pretty much anything that people claim is a perfect neutral lip. They allllll turn brown on me. Something along the lines of Waking The Fallen in terms of ballads, but with some songs like God Damn and Paradigm. I'm sure there'll be some experimental songs too, like Sunny D. I'm cool with ballads, Angels is my favorite avenged song, I just hope they don't get wimpy like Disturbed did with Evolution.. The pictures I've seen of the place dressed up for a wedding are beautiful, but we felt like it would be potentially more work than we wanted to put in to make it work for us: we have a relatively small wedding planned so would need quite a bit to fill in/block off the extra space. It's also great that there's an outdoor space and near the water, but when you're inside you can't see it so kind of a waste of that part. We felt all in all that it wasn't worth having everyone travel up there.. And he's basically profiting off of lack of representation of a community he is not a part of, and has a contentious relationship with. Like when he announced he is partnering with a high end brand (I think Dior) to expand their shade ranges. The hell???? He is well represented (even as a pale person) with shade, and he is not the expert on dark skin. "I really different from a lot of people, and I kind of try to be. I don like to follow the rules at all. [] If somebody starts wearing something a certain way, I wear the complete opposite of that. We understand the challenges of living in an industrial zone, next to residential and so forth. We prefer a practical approach. But you can't get there when somebody puts their head in the sand on the issue and tries to ignore it. I'm at the point where I have tried most remedies for acne and believe that it is hormonal. I would still like to try zinc supplements and probiotics to see if either one will provide any relief. Which one do you think would be best to try first? Or 담양출장안마 should I just do both at the same time?. Eyeshadow Violet Voss Holy Grail palette it okay. I love the VV formula but the color story in this palette is a little boring to me. I received in a Boxy Luxe and since I end up decluttering pretty much every other palette Boxycharm sends, I thought I try to use this one.

Are magnetic eyelashes worth the hype?
If you find yourself ripping out your own lashes or tugging at leftover goo two days later, then allow me to introduce you to the concept of magnetic lashes.
What makes magnetic lashes so appealing is that they're reusable, they don't require messy glue and they're less likely to rip off your natural lashes. Basically, they seem like a cool, low-maintenance version of the original, glue-on version.
While there are some luxe varieties on the market (around $70), Ardell just launched a drugstore version that's a lot more affordable (at $11).
Instead of two magnets (like the first-generation versions), Ardell touts that these have anywhere from three to eight smaller, virtually invisible magnets embedded end to end so it will lay down seamlessly on the lashline and won’t bulge out in the middle.
The company launched both full strips as well as accents, which are placed on the outer corners of the eyes. At TODAY Style, we had to give them all a try!
The brand recommends applying a layer of mascara prior to application. This gives the lashes some grip and also helps natural lashes blend in.
Lashes are marked as upper and lower in each package. I don't know exactly what would happen if you mixed them up (the thought gives me shivers), so let's assume we'll all delicately and mindfully place them back in their proper home after every use.
It seemed simple enough: With the top strip, you line up the outside of the lash with the outer edge of your lashline. Next, you bring the bottom lashes to meet the top and when they are close enough — click — the magnets snap together and you're golden.
I won't lie, there’s definitely a learning curve. That top lash will inevitably fall on the ground, the bottom one won't snap into place, but after a few attempts, I started to get the hang of positioning both. The most satisfying part is hearing it actually click into place. Success!
If you do need to realign or start over, just grab the magnets at the base of your lashline and roll your thumb and index finger in opposite directions to unlock them. Then, gently slide them off your lashes.
Things seemed to be going well until ... well, until I looked in the mirror. Yikes. They are a bit too bold for me! The lashes didn't blend well with my own and I could distinctly see the magnet on the underside of the lash. If I blinked slowly enough I could feel the cold magnet on my eyeball.
It's a feeling that's tough to describe, but certainly not ideal.
IF YOU CONSIDER a quick swipe of mascara sufficient lash enhancement, this news may confound you, but among a growing segment of America’s female population, false lashes are a daily staple. Touted by influencers like “Shahs of Sunset” star and Lilly Lashes founder Lilly Ghalichi, fake fringes are no longer fringe, with U.S. sales reaching nearly $270 million in 2018, up 31% from 2017, according to polling firm Nielsen. Fans of fake lashes value their exaggerated, eye-opening drama, but, with their messy, irritating glue, applying them has always been a pain.
The even bigger news for lash lovers: Reusable magnetic fake lashes—which attach via a thin strip of magnets at the base instead of glue—have recently come on the scene. Intriguingly, I received a kit as a gift, but after one frustrating session trying to master the tweezer-like applicator, I understood why “how to apply magnetic lashes” was Google’s top trending beauty search in 2018. The struggle to get them on has spawned a subgenre of YouTube videos offering either clever hacks or brokenhearted reviews.
These polarized (and polarizing) temporary lashes consist of a set of two lash strips studded with tiny magnets that adhere to each other, sandwiching the wearer’s own upper lashes. They’re typically made of synthetic or human hair, and for a luxe option Uptown Lashes sells a mink set ($30, uptownlashes.com). Some kits, such as the one from One Two Cosmetics, are sold with a tweezer-like applicator included ($69, onetwocosmetics.com). Ardell’s popular lashes are more of a deal starting at $14 a kit, with an applicator sold separately for $4 (ardellshop.com). Some women use tweezers or their fingers to apply the lashes. Though simple in concept, the process is difficult in practice due to the magnets’ minute size and the exacting placement required.
New York-based makeup artist Mary Irwin said that a magnifying mirror could help, and recommends looking down into the mirror so you can see the underside of the lash. Then, dexterous users can “gently drop the top part of the magnetic lash above the natural lash,” which is the step that requires extensive practice. However, Ms. Irwin conceded that “for everyday wear, I don’t think they’re the most practical.” Having studied online tutorials carefully and still failed to apply my own set, I would have to agree.
The boom of eyelash growth serums, lash extension and curling procedures, and lengthening mascaras should prove the point—the world is obsessed with the quest to longer, fuller eyelashes. But despite all this new beauty tech, applying false eyelashes is one tried-and-true trick that makeup artists and celebrities have been using for years. And the surge of magnetic eyelashes hitting the market proves this option isn't one to ignore.
Once only adhered to your natural lash with adhesive glue, mink magnetic eyelashes secure to each other, and your lash line, with tiny magnets. The latest brand to launch this type of technology is celebrated falsies brand, Ardell. According to Jadene Munson, the Global Brand Ambassador, they "feature virtually invisible magnets placed along the lash line that lock together and secure the lash along your natural lash line." This brand's full strip lashes, specifically, feature four magnets for an impressive hold, while the accent lashes feature three magnets. Basically, you are sandwiching your natural eyelashes between two strips held together with magnetic force.
It's relatively simple. Each product will differ slightly, so it's best to follow the instructions on the package. First, it's often recommended to trim the lash so it'll naturally fit along your natural lash line. Then, Munson recommends applying mascara to give your eyelashes more grip. For Ardell's strip eyelashes, the next step is to lay the Upper Magnetic Lash across the top of your lash line. Then, you place the Under Magnetic Lash from the tray and place it underneath your natural lash line. Thanks to the magnets, they will lock in place.
Another popular brand is One Two Cosmetics, seen above. These magnetic lashes come in full strips or half lashes to accent the outer corners. This brand's magnetic lashes also come with an applicator that looks a little like tweezers, but you can apply them with your fingers, too. The same logic applies—the upper lash is magnetically attracted to the bottom—but you can watch this short video for a visual breakdown.
To remove the Ardell lashes, Munson says to gently pull them apart by lifting the top lash up and pulling the bottom one down. You can also slide the top and bottom magnets away from each other "one by one." However, you should never pull them straight off, as this could harm your natural lashes. One Two recommends using your thumb and index finger to slide them apart.

The Best Faux Mink Magnetic Eyelashes
The two brands that are creating the most buzz are One Two ($59; hsn.com) and Ardell ($8; walmart.com), both of which are reusable. When deciding between the two, consider the price-tag, and also the material used. And if you have sensitivities or allergies, this is extremely important. Ardell's are made with 100 percent human hair, while One Two's are synthetic. We should note that while they're easier to use than traditional glue-on lashes, there is still a slight learning curve. Make sure to give yourself a few test-runs before applying them for an important event. As far as options go, both of these brands offer different styles to choose from, whether it's a bold and glamorous look you're attempting to recreate, or something more subtle and natural.
In the world of eyelashes, there’s always a new product or two floating around that claims to be better at giving you the longer, fuller lashes you’ve wanted. We’ve been searching for ways to enhance our eyes for centuries. Nothing frames your eyes and makes them more noticeable than a great set of soft, voluminous lashes, and we would do practically anything to get them.
One of the newer beauty trends to hit the eyelash scene are magnetic eyelash strips. We admit, our curiosity was piqued when we first heard of these. How can magnets help you get longer, fuller lashes? Is it safe? Affordable? You know we’re your eyelash info insiders, so we got the scoop on magnetic lashes so you don’t have to waste your time researching them for yourself.
Serums, salon treatments, and miracle lash conditions may have all made a name for themselves in the realm of lash enhancement, but the tried-and-true method of eyelash lengthening and thickening has always been the use of falsies. This is the go-to method of eye enhancement for everyone from celebrities to the coworker sitting in the cubicle next to you. Eyelash strips are the industry standard for many reasons.
They’re safe. Serums with certain formulas and salon extensions come with some pretty risky side effects. Skin and iris discoloration, natural eyelash loss, and eye infection are all safety concerns for these methods of enhancement. Eyelash strips are generally well tolerated by everyone and are safe to apply and remove on a daily basis.
They’re affordable. Other methods of magnetic false eyelashes enhancement can be extremely expensive. A full set of professionally applied eyelash extensions alone can be upwards of $300, and that doesn’t factor in the cost for maintenance and upkeep.
Serums are not much cheaper, considering that they often cost over $100 and usually last about thirty days. Once you stop using a serum, any lash lengthening effects disappear, so if you want to continue the effect a serum can potentially offer, you’ll need to continue using it.
Eyelash strips cost a fraction of the price and are reusable twelve to fifteen times. Doe Lashes cost just under $13 per pair, which means you can have glamorous lashes all month for less than it costs you to go grab brunch with your friends.
They’re instant. Other lash enhancement options may take time to provide results. Eyelash serums can take up to three to four weeks before taking effect, and that growth isn’t as noticeable or remarkable as a set of false lashes. Eyelash extensions can give you instant length and volume...after a few hours in the salon chair. Get comfortable in the chair, because you’ll be headed back to the salon for “fills” every few weeks.
Eyelash strips can be easily applied and removed within minutes, without any in-between or continued maintenance required.
They’re DIY. You can apply false eyelash strips at home without any prior experience and get professional looking, gorgeous results right in your own bathroom or bedroom, no tipping required.
Since false eyelash strips are the industry standard for eyelash enhancement, it’s no surprise companies are continually trying to change or repackage the design. Magnetic lashes are different from strip lashes in how they attach to your lash line. Traditionally, eyelash strips attach just above your natural lash line with glue or a holding gel. Glue is the most traditional method of adhering false magnetic eyelash accessories to your lids, and a great quality glue can hold your lashes in place for hours on end. Depending on the brand, they can even endure things like sweat and water. Just like some companies sell eyeliner kits, you can also get lash kits for convenience.
Magnetic lashes are held in place by complete magnetic contact. Think of it as using basically invisible magnets (or smaller magnets that are compact). You will have lashes with bottom magnets and an upper magnetic lash as well. To apply magnetic lashes, you will need to invest in not only specially made eyelash strips that have tiny magnets attached to the lash band, but also a specialty iron-oxide magnetic liner.
Magnetic lashes are applied by first applying a thin strip of liquid iron-oxide eyeliner on top of your natural lash line, waiting for it to dry, and then clipping the magnetic lash strip to the eyeliner using an applicator tool. Some people like to put all their items on a small tray so they don't lose anything during the application process.
To remove magnetic lashes, you’ll need to pull the magnetic lash bands off, and then remove the liner. Try using your index finger and thumb for a solid grip. Some companies suggest using olive oil to remove the eyeliner, while other manufacturers carry a specialized iron oxide eyeliner removing solution. It isn’t recommended you use regular eye makeup remover, as it may not be effective in removing the liner and can be damaging to the lash band if it is exposed to a remover containing oil.

To Each His Own (1946)
When Olivia de Havilland passed away at 104 years of age last July, she was one of the last-surviving major stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age. The Golden Age mostly corresponds to the Hollywood Studio System in place at the time. In that system, studios contracted actors, directors, screenwriters, composers, costume designers, cinematographers, and more – sometimes loaning their personnel out to other studios. Before making To Each His Own, de Havilland sued her previous employer, Warner Bros., for unlawfully suspending her after she rejected a role as well as adding six months to her contract because of the suspension. De Havilland won her court case and the De Havilland Law remains in Californian law books today. But a furious Jack Warner retaliated, conspiring with other Hollywood executives to blacklist De Havilland by calling the actress “difficult” to work with.
For three years de Havilland went without work in Hollywood. During that time, she busied herself with productions of Lux Radio Theatre, volunteered at the Hollywood Canteen, and entertained American troops in the Pacific theater as part of a USO tour. Nevertheless, as one of the best-regarded actresses in Hollywood even before Warner’s blacklisting attempts, she was too good an actress for producers not to be interested in her services. In 1945, after signing a two-film deal with Paramount, de Havilland began work on a star vehicle for her, the melodrama To Each His Own. De Havilland enjoyed the screenplay by Charles Barckett (1939’s Ninotchka, 1950’s Sunset Boulevard) and Jacques Théry (primarily a novelist; 1942’s Joan of Paris), but believed it could be improved with revisions and a director she had confidence in. Her first choice for director was Mitchell Leisen, who guided de Havilland to an Academy Award nomination in the romantic drama Hold Back the Dawn (1941). Leisen reluctantly agreed to take up the project but, as de Havilland started developing her character as the production progressed, he knew he had a worthwhile production on his hands. He was right, and so were de Havilland’s instincts – To Each His Own may not distinguish itself technically, but the acting and revised screenplay elevate this melodrama.
Somewhere in London, a middle-aged American woman named Josephine “Jody” Norris (de Havilland) is walking the city’s blacked-out streets (as mandated by the government) on New Year’s Eve. It is World War II, and Jody volunteers herself some nights to be a fire warden. On this holiday evening, only she and Lord Desham (Roland Culver) are in the office. After some persuasion from Desham, the two head out for tea. While at tea, Jody learns a Gregory Piersen is arriving in London on a late train. Immediately, she leaves teatime with Lord Desham and dashes to the train station. There, in flashback, we learn that Jody was the daughter of her pharmacist father (Griff Barnett) in a small town named Piersen Falls. During World War I, a dashing U.S. Army Air Service fighter pilot Bart Cosgrove (John Lund in one of two roles) visits for a bond rally. Unexpectedly, and without anyone suspecting a thing, they fall in love. After hearing Bart has perished overseas, and a pregnant Jody decides to have and raise their child. She attempts to choreograph her own pregnancy, delivery, and first days of motherhood by making it appear as if she has “adopted” her own baby – all to avoid local scandal. An unfortunate twist of fate means that she will have to surrender her son, Gregory (nicknamed “Griggsy”), and watch him grow without the knowledge of his true parents.
Also starring in To Each His Own are Mary Anderson as Corinne Piersen, Phillip Terry as Alex Piersen, Bill Goodwin as Mac Tilton, Virginia Welles as Liz Lorimer, and a sassy Victoria Horne as Nurse Daisy Gingras.
Released in the spring of 1946, one can imagine how audiences might have viscerally reacted to the film’s setting. Through the Second World War, American audiences flocked to a greater proportion of patriotic movies intended to rally morale, propaganda, and war movies that became less sanitized as the war itself dragged on. Films concerning civilian self-sacrifice during this period typically downplayed said self-sacrifice for nationalism. To Each His Own embeds themes of wartime sacrifice into its subtext, even if the film does not directly link Jody’s decades-long personal sacrifice to the Allied effort in World War II. That Brackett and Théry allow Jody to be an imperfect, morally challenged protagonist is a development not often seen in melodramas where a mother gives up their child (a subcategory within the subgenre; see 1931’s The Sin of Madelon Claudet and 1939’s The Old Maid). In the film’s final act, we see Jody skirting the boundaries of what would be the right thing to do. While taking care of a young Gregory (his adopted parents, sympathetic to her plight, allow her babysitting privileges), she wants to do what is best for her son, but sometimes this might rub up against the parental rights of Gregory’s adopted parents.
In Jody, the viewer intuits her desire for love and the unbearable separation – in extraordinary circumstances – of mother and son. For the parents among the audience members who saw To Each His Own during its theatrical run, similar emotions must have coursed over them for most of the film. Permanent and temporary separations from loved ones can wreak havoc on a person’s psychology. Brackett and Théry’s screenplay is sensitive to this trauma and resolve it in a way as touching as the Motion Picture Production Code (the self-censoring guidelines enforced upon major American studio movies from 1934-1968) would allow. The Production Code Administration (PCA), which enforced the Code, frowned upon the fact that Gregory was an illegitimate child born out of wedlock and requested wholesale changes to the film’s resolution of its-child separation.
While negotiating with the PCA, Brackett succeeded in arguing that the film’s ending was the only sensible conclusion for To Each His Own. Despite winning the argument, Brackett made concessions in order to keep his ending, including having several characters treat Jody’s affair as sinful in scenes leading up to and just after Gregory’s birth. Not that the compromises compromise the film too much. Given cultural norms in the early twentieth century, the amount of screentime concerning Jody’s potential shame if her secret was revealed feels appropriate. The intentions from the PCA might have been to moralize, but To Each His Own does not overcompensate for its lead character’s supposed immorality. And if the film’s preserved ending may not satisfy persnickety viewers too focused on narrative probability, it is at the very least a poignant and deserved conclusion.
Over the course of the story’s three decades, Olivia de Havilland must transform from a naïve young adult reveling in her attractiveness to men to a hardened, middle-aged spinster who has all but put her past behind her. While de Havilland utilized different perfumes to evoke Jody’s mentality for progressing time periods, makeup supervisor Wally Westmore (1953’s The War of the Worlds, 1958’s Vertigo) and costume designer Edith Head (1950’s All About Eve, 1973’s The Sting) and their teams subtly guide the viewer to realize Jody’s character growth even before she utters a word. Harsher lighting over the passing time periods also assists in making de Havilland look older. In time, Jody – once a somewhat sheltered, but flirtatious assistant in her father’s drugstore – loses her playfulness and vivaciousness, but retains an insecurity over social tact. That insecurity is evident when she encounters an adult Gregory, who appears to have no recollection of who he once called “Aunt Jody”. The viewer sees the simultaneous hope, fearfulness, and suppressed agony on her face when adult Gregory is not looking her direction. Everything de Havilland has done up to this point in her performance – her witticisms and pointed requests, wordless joy and sorrow – suffuses the final half-hour with Jody’s regrets and desire to be the mother she never could be. All of Jody’s frailties and inner strength pour through in the end and we, the viewers, feel every hint of embarrassment, fortitude, desire, and self-doubt. This is a masterclass leading performance from Olivia de Havilland, who would deliver an even better performance on the horizon.
Only prominent in the bookends of the film, Roland Culver (1943’s The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, 1945’s Dead of Night) provides a charismatic turn as Lord Desham. Culver may not express too much emotionally – those British men and their stiff upper lips are sentimentalists inside, right? – but he has a curious authoritative charm that permeates each scene. Here is a fellow who has garnered a lot of wisdom and a droll wit over his years, but he would rather listen than soliloquize. To Each His Own’s conclusion is not nearly as impactful without Culver as Desham. Unfortunately, one can’t sing the same praises for John Lund in his dual role. In both roles, Lund just seems too stiff and his dialogue delivery sounds too forced at times. This can be somewhat attributed to Lund’s discomfiture in playing a dual role and the brown hair rinse over his naturally blonde hair.
Olivia de Havilland’s return to the silver screen was well-received by audiences and across the film industry. She would not make another film with Warner Bros. until after Jack Warner’s retirement in 1973 (but the less said about 1978’s The Swarm, the better). A career resurgence would follow To Each His Own – this time, she was making movies on her own terms. The precedent established by the Californian state court in De Havilland v. Warner Bros. Pictures continues to protect actors and actresses from contractual exploitation from movie studios and grants them greater creative freedom (and, as of 2009, the precedent now applies to the music recording industry).
The appeal of To Each His Own extended overseas, most notably in a Bollywood remake entitled Aradhana (1969), starring Sharmila Tagore, Rajesh Khanna, and Sujit Kumar. By this point in the review, I’m guessing you, the reader, are a bit fatigued with all the Olivia de Havilland worship. Yet, her importance to the success of To Each His Own is too critical to the film itself and her importance to Hollywood’s history cannot be understated. As good as the costume design, lighting, and supporting performances might be and as emotional as the script is, none of it works without its central star.
My rating: 8/10

SEPHORA BEAUTY INSIDER EVENT //
The Sephora Beauty Insider event is upon us! If you have Rouge status you’ll save 20% through 5/1 using the code SPRINGSAVE. Savings for VIB members start tomorrow – with the same code you’ll save 15%. And 10% savings for Insiders begins on 4/23. This event only happens twice per year, so take advantage! Below I am breaking down some of my all-time favorites that are now on sale…
HAIR //
THIS BLOW DRY LOTION – I swear by this Kerastase blow dry lotion. While I have been trying to cut back on excessive heat application to my hair for some time now, when I do have to blow dry, I always make sure to use this product. It is lightweight, effective, and doesn’t leave my hair feeling heavy, greasy, or frizzy. What more can you ask for? I have also used the Kerastase blow dry creme, which is also effective, but I prefer the lotion when I am wearing my hair down as it is lighter in weight compared to the creme (I will use either when doing my signature low bun). I have tried a few other heat protectant lotions and cremes including this creme, but found them to be much too heavy and greasy for my fine hair, and left my hair feeling quite sticky.
THE BEST BLOWDRYER – Speaking of heat, this is my all-time favorite blowdryer. It is fast and reliable, in fact, I’ve been using mine for years! To cut back on how much heat I apply to my hair (when I decide to wear it down) I use this hair wrap to get my hair as dry as possible before applying my blowdry lotion and then blow drying!
MY FAVORITE STYLING PRODUCTS – I use quite a few styling products to produce my sleek bun look. At the top of my list are this hair oil, this serum, and this oil spray to finish! I have been using all of these products for 2+ years and swear by them. When it comes to mousse or hair spray, I typically stick to my tried-and-true drugstore finds!
SKINCARE //
HYDRATING LOTIONS THAT WORK – As you know I swear by Charlotte Tilbury products! I use this lotion as my daily moisturizer, applying in the AM before starting my makeup routine (seen here). I love this lotion because it is super hydrating and thick. As for my nighttime routine, I have been using this lotion and highly recommend it. It is much more lightweight and doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy after a good night’s rest!
TWO TERRIFIC TANNERS – I have talked about both of these products again and again. I am loyal to Dr. Dennis Gross tanning pads (for the face here and for the body here) and have been using them for nearly five years! More recently, I discovered Tan-Luxe and have found it to be a great option as well! I am particularly smitten with the face formula. All of these products are easy to apply, don’t streak, and don’t carry that horrible faux-tanner smell!
A LITTLE EYE LOVE – I don’t use a ton of eye specific products (such as under eye creams), but I happen to find these gel eye patches to be extremely effective and soothing. They feel so comfortable when applied and also reduce puffiness. I don’t use them on a daily basis, but do try to apply them every weeks in the morning! I have been tempted to try these eye patches that Grace Atwood raves about.
THE SERUMS I SWEAR BY – I have been using this serum and this brightening booster every day prior to applying my daily lotion. I have immediately noticed such a difference in my skin. While these products on are on the pricey side, they truly work wonders!
MAKE UP MUST-HAVES //
CHARLOTTLE TILBURY FTW – You can see my daily make-up routine here! I will be stocking up on some of my favorite make-up must haves including this product I use in place of traditional foundation, as well as this conturing set. Outside of the famous Charlottle Tilbury lotion, these have to be my two favorite CT products.
CLEAN CAT EYE – This Stila eyeliner is pure perfection…and according to the Sephora site, apparently over 300K people agree! I have been using this product for years and years and have never found anything that can compete with this famous liquid eyeliner. I have oily lids, so finding a liquid liner that doesn’t run is key for me. And believe me, this one IS IT!
SET IT AND FORGET IT – I product you will see mentioned again and again on Atlantic-Pacific is this make-up setting spray. It goes on in a super fine mist, lasts for hours and hours, and performs in all conditions (including the freezing NYC winters as well as the humid Florida summers)!
Below are some of the products I am considering adding to cart! All items I have not tried before but keep popping up on my radar!

10 Best Drugstore Liquid Foundation Reviews By getting a good foundation, you can set the tone for how all other beauty products you use may appear. With the various products and brands in the market, it can become overwhelmingly difficult to decide the best type of foundation to be using. You can classify foundations into two main classes; powder foundations and liquid foundations. But which of the two is the best to use on your skin? There is no better product as both of them are equally great since they bear their advantages and disadvantages. The best way to determine the type of foundation to use is by having a look at your type of skin. If you have oily or sensitive skin, you may prefer using a powder foundation as it comes with the ability to absorb oil and cannot clog your skin pores. It also can control the amount of shine your skin builds up. On the other hand, if you have dry skin, it may be convenient for you to use a liquid foundation as it may provide your skin with the much-needed moisture it needed and provides a good covering for the wrinkles and fine lines that appear more visibly on dry skin. Even so, this does not mean that you cannot use liquid foundation for oily or sensitive skin. There are liquid foundations made explicitly for use on sensitive and oily skin. But how do you tell them apart? It all comes down to the ingredients that make up a specific liquid foundation. Just like how you choose a moisturizer depending on the skin type by looking through the elements, the same principle applies when choosing a liquid foundation to use on your skin. Also of importance is getting a liquid foundation that can help even out your skin complexion. You need always to consider the type of finish you want to achieve and the amount of coverage you want to get. The good thing about liquid foundations is that several brands in the market have expanded their foundation ranges to make it easier for users to find the right shade for their skin rather than using more than one shade to create one that suits them. It is even more advantageous for users with unique skin tones as there are higher chances of finding a match with a liquid foundation. Here are some of the best liquid foundations that can help you set a canvas for the use of makeup. Summing Up When it comes to foundations, liquid foundations take a big part of the market. They are easily accessible and come in various hues, textures, and formulations. Every liquid foundation in the market is different from each other. Some products provide light skin coverage while others can extend to full coverage. It is also easier to use liquid foundations as there is more than one method you can use to apply. You may choose to use your fingers, a foundation brush, or even a beauty sponge. It is important to note that as much as a liquid foundation can work with almost everyone, it is essential to select one that can deliver your skin requirements. If you have dry skin, be on the lookout for a foundation that can provide your skin with some moisturizing qualities. If you have oily skin, be selective, and choose one that can help you control the production of oil and regulate the shine on your skin. Additionally, if you find that a foundation does not give you the coverage you need to conceal either your wrinkles, pimples or scars on the face, you may consider on investing in a good CONCEALER that can do the job. Other than that, you should always be aware of the amount of coverage you put on your skin. Avoid super heavy coverage as it may lead to the clogging of your skin pores. With the information above, we do hope that you can make the right decision when choosing the best liquid foundation for your skin. Oh, and they're $18 and under.Everyone has different needs and goals when it comes to their hair. Some of us (ahem, me) need volume and damage repair thanks to a fine texture or perpetual color treatments,  while others want anti-aging benefits or major curl TLC. Regardless, we feel confident saying that everyone wants their strands to reach their full, healthy, and yes, expensive AF-looking potential. We have some really great news on that front: You don't actually have to pay a fortune to get hair that looks like a million bucks. Many of our favorite shampoo and conditioners are actually hiding away in the sparkling aisles of your nearest drugstore, and we're here to guide you toward all of our favorites. Whether you're seeking the best drugstore shampoo and conditioner to achieve beach-inspired mermaid waves (yeah, we're pretending it's not winter, too!) or need an affordable, cult-classic purple elixir to bust your brass, we have your strands covered just ahead. Keep scrolling for the nine best drugstore shampoo and conditioners that are budget-saving dupes of our more expensive favorites. Just like Moroccanoil's cult-loved favorite, Tigi's more affordable formula features a strategic blend of both moisturizing and strengthening components—a dream power couple for those with damaged, dry, color-treated, or break-age prone strands. Hair is left feeling soft, shiny, and more vibrant in color thanks to the formula's conditioning and moisture-balancing perks. You probably should pay a lot for your color, (you often get what you pay for in that industry), but let us be the ones to tell you that you don't necessarily have to pay a lot for your color-protecting products. If you're looking to save some money but still want the hydrating and shin-inducing benefits of a more expensive formula like Kérastase, we recommend opting for Matrix's pH-balancing and color-safe formula instead. Not only does this duo keep your hair soft and tangle-free, but your strands will also retain their post-salon vibrancy up to nine weeks after your dye job. Just like Earth Nectar's essential oil– and botanical-based blend, Paul Mitchell's deep-cleansing shampoo and conditioner is fortified with nature's best: natural tea tree oil, peppermint oil, and lavender to draw essential circulation to the scalp, remove buildup, and gift strands with all the shine you'd expect from a way pricier option. FYI: Shimmer Lights was one of the OG purple shampoos on the market, and it's remained a brass-busting obsession ever since. Since a purple shampoo should be an enhancement (aka you're not using a purple shampoo every single time you wash), it's really not worth spending an arm, leg, and entire paycheck on your formula. Plus, they all do the same thing—truly. Like Briogeo, Hempz uses the loveliest ingredients from Mother Earth to elevate the look, feel, and overall health of your strands. While Briogeo's beloved formula features ginseng, biotin, ginger, and maltodextrin, Hempz's more affordable dupe has equally luscious MVPs like sweet pineapple, honey melon, and its signature hemp seed oil, which work harmoniously to volumize and plump a limp hair situation. For the ultimate creamy, cleansing wash experience, we recommend Shea Moisture's epic combo pack—just like DevaCurl's luxe formulas, which are intended to keep your natural oils and curls intact, so too does the trio from Shea Moisture. With, of course, a helping hand from strand-loving ingredients like hibiscus, coconut, and crucial silk proteins for extra softness and strength. Our hair is an extension of our skin, and just like we see noticeable shifts in our complexions as we age, the health and condition of our hair will also change. That's why, investing in an anti-aging formula that boosts density, moisture, and resilience is a great alternative if you're looking to stave off brittle, weak, or thinning strand prognosis. We love Alterna's cult-loved Caviar line, but if you need something that's a tad less taxing on the bank account, Kenra's shampoo and conditioning duo is seriously brilliant. Enriched with snail essence, it makes for a potent blend of proteins proven to combat dulling, thinning, breakage, frizz, dryness, elasticity, porosity, scalp irritation, unmanageability, and changes in texture. Even though you don't even need conditioner with Amika's cheekily named texture shampoo, you'll still save yourself $10 dollars with Pacifica's beachy wave-inducing pairing. All-natural, the formula boosts hair with moisture and control while key tropical additions like sea algae, banana, and chamomile deliver on your surfy mermaid hair dreams. If a smooth, ultra-sleek finish is what you're after Tresemmé's iconic keratin-spiked shampoo and conditioner is practically legend. (Even among the brand's non-drugstore competitors.) Dripping with luxe ingredients like marula oil and silky texture-inducing keratin, it's a steal at just $6 per formula. Now, on top my top picks!
Editor’s Picks: Makeup Removers, Cleansers and Toners
Makeup removers: For a clean alternative to drugstore micellar water, I love BIOeffect and Caudalie. They're both super gentle, but still highly effective. Tarte also has a new clean formula that's on my list!
Gel cleansers: The gel cleanser from Indie Lee is my favourite, suitable for all but the driest skin. You also can't go wrong with Youth to the People or Drunk Elephant. If you're oily, check out the new one from Caudalie.
Foaming cleansers: If you splurge on one cleanser, make it Omorovicza's. Even though it foams, it's non-drying and oh so luxurious. I also recommend the foaming cleansers from Caudalie, Dr Roebuck's, Consonant and Go-To.
Cream cleansers: For a creamy, nourishing cleanse, Dr Roebuck's, Naturally Serious, Omorovicza and Kora Organics are your best bets.
Face wipes: Both Kopari and RMS Beauty make coconut oil-based wipes that are great for taking off makeup. For on-the-go, Consonant's wipes are super refreshing and feel great on the skin.
Toners: Indie Lee and First Aid Beauty are good hydrating toners, while Herbivore and Caudalie are more astringent.
Editor’s Picks: Exfoliators
AHA exfoliators: Lactic acid is my AHA of choice, so I'd go for one of the options from Go-To, Sephora Collection, Peter Thomas Roth or The Inkey List. For a slightly stronger exfoliation, I also like the combo lactic and glycolic acid formulas from Youth to the People and First Aid Beauty.
BHA exfoliators: That said, I will always prefer BHAs because they not only exfoliate the skin surface, but also clean your pores. Try First Aid Beauty, The Inkey List, Caudalie, Dermalogica or Juice Beauty.
AHA-BHA exfoliators: Can't decide? There are also AHA-BHA blends from Herbivore (which was recently reformulated), Sephora Collection, Tarte, Omorovicza, Moon Juice, Tata Harper and Dr. Dennis Gross.
Best powder exfoliators: If you can't tolerate acids, consider the exfoliators from Tatcha and Dermalogica, which use enzymes to gently dissolve dead skin.
Editor’s Picks: Mists, Essences and Serums
Mists: Some new mists that should be on your radar are Tower 28, Skinfix and Youth to the People, which are all hydrating and calming for sensitive skin. I've also been loving the Tatcha and BIOeffect mists, which absorb oil and mattify the skin. Plus, I always recommend Caudalie, Dr Roebuck's, Tata Harper and Herbivore (which was just reformulated).
Essences: When it comes to essences, SK-II was the original and in my opinion, it's still the best. However, it's pricey, so try Tatcha's instead if you are on a budget.
Serums: Everyone needs a hydrating serum (or two) in their skincare wardrobe, whether to wear alone under sunscreen or layered under creams and oils. My top picks include Indie Lee, Caudalie, StackedSkincare, Drunk Elephant, Dr Roebuck's, Moon Juice and Consonant. Or, if you have a big serum budget, Dr. Barbara Sturm!
Editor’s Picks: Moisturizers, Eye Creams and Face Oils
Moisturizers: If you like a lightweight cream or gel-cream, give the formulas from Dr Roebuck's, Tata Harper or Volition a go. If you want something more nourishing, I'm a huge fan of LXMI and the other two creams from Dr Roebuck's (No Worries and Nuddy).
Eye creams: As someone with a very sensitive eye area, I've had success with the eye treatments from Indie Lee, Caudalie, Dr Roebuck's and Drunk Elephant. Also check out the new eye creams from Tatcha and Biossance.
Face oils: It's no secret that I'm a fan of squalane oil, so Indie Lee, Biossance and The Inkey List are all great investments. But lately, I've been using the Kopari coconut oil instead and loving it. (And no, it doesn't break me out, even though I'm acne-prone!) For an oil blend, Herbivore (both Lapis and Orchid) are lovely. If your skin is dry and non-acne-prone, you might like Drunk Elephant's marula oil.
Editor’s Picks: Sunscreens
Face sunscreens: As you know, I'm all about high-protection mineral sunscreen, and I have a new love: REN! If you find most SPFs too greasy and heavy, I'd highly recommend giving it a try. My other picks in the store are from Drunk Elephant (both Umbra Sheer and Umbra Tinte) and Juice Beauty. The new Naturally Serious tinted sunscreen is also worth a look.
Body sunscreens: For body, I love Juice Beauty because it's silicone-free, but you can also get good protection from Supergoop! and Shiseido.
Powder sunscreens: I wouldn't use powder sunscreen as your only sunscreen—rather, I suggest keeping it in your handbag as a top-up. It goes on right over your makeup, and you'll never be without SPF! The best ones are from Supergoop!, ILIA, Peter Thomas Roth and Tarte.
Editor’s Picks: Skincare Treatments
Vitamin C: The most potent form of vitamin C is L-ascorbic acid, which you can find in Drunk Elephant's cult favourite serum. Personally, I prefer vitamin C derivatives, which have a longer shelf life. You can find them from Omorovicza, Summer Fridays, Kora Organics, Youth to the People, Skin Inc Supplement Bar, Tatcha and Farmacy.
Retinol: The strongest retinoid in the store is from Drunk Elephant, which has a full one percent retinol. There's also Alpha-H and Glow Recipe (although they don't disclose the concentration). If you're super sensitive, The Inkey List is the mildest option.
Niacinamide: There's one active ingredient that treats a wide range of skincare concerns and is well tolerated by everyone: niacinamide. Find it in the serums from The Inkey List, Alpha-H and Skin Inc Supplement Bar.
Copper peptides: Believe it or not, copper peptides are on par with retinoids for treating the signs of aging. You can find them in the new serum from Dr Roebuck's.
Bakuchiol: Another exciting retinoid alternative is bakuchiol, available in serums from Herbivore and The Inkey List. One study found that bakuchiol was comparable to a mild retinol for treating wrinkling and pigmentation.
Editor’s Picks: Face Masks and Sheet Masks
Clay masks: The best clay mask is from Indie Lee—it's a lifesaver whenever your skin is broken out, irritated or just in need of a pick-me-up. I've also got my eye on the one from Omorovicza.
Exfoliating masks: My top pick for brightening is the BHA-based Tata Harper mask. However, Herbivore (both Blue Tansy and Brighten) and Omorovicza also get the job done well. Or, try the new Ole Henriksen mask with PHAs, which are like AHAs but milder.
Hydrating masks: I love the jelly-like Dr Roebuck's mask for non-greasy hydration. If you prefer a creamier texture, go for Naturally Serious or Lano.
Sheet masks: Of all the sheet masks I've tried over the years, I still love SK-II's the best. However, I'd also try Go-To, which has better ingredients than most.
Editor’s Picks: High Tech Tools
Cleansing brushes: I swear by the Foreo cleansing brush for getting your skin super soft and clean without irritation. (And it won't harbour nasty bacteria.) PMD makes a device that sounds very similar, although I haven't tried it yet.
Microneedling: It's safe to do microneedling at home, as long as you choose a device with shallow needles (less than 0.3 mm) and follow the instructions to keep it clean. I have the BeautyBio gadget myself, but there's also StackedSkincare and Nurse Jamie.
Microcurrent: Another tool that really works is microcurrent. It's totally painless and if you do it consistently, it can actually tighten and firm your skin. I own the NuFace and the ReFa, and now I've got my eye on the NuFace body version to target cellulite!
Light therapy: I'm always talking about the benefits of red light therapy, and while I generally recommend more powerful devices, I think the LightStim is handy for travel. I'm also intrigued by the Dr. Dennis Gross face mask, since it's hands-free. For occasional breakouts, the Foreo blue light tool zaps bacteria in 30 seconds.
Ice roller: How good does this sound? Pop the StackedSkincare ice roller in your freezer, and once it's cold, roll it across your face for an instant calming effect.
Pore extractor: Dermaflash uses sonic vibrations to deep-clean pores and then infuse them with your favourite serum.
Lip plumper: If you're like me and would rather avoid lip fillers, the PMD plumping gadget is great for a temporarily fuller effect.
Face rollers: Jillian Dempsey has the most luxe face massager, but you can also find versions from Mount Lai, Herbivore and Nurse Jamie.
Editor’s Picks: Skin Makeup
Primers: Silicone-free primers used to be impossible to find, but not anymore. REN and ILIA both make primer-serum hybrids that help makeup last longer while hydrating your skin.
Tinted moisturizers: For lightweight and silicone-free coverage, I like the tinted moisturizers from Omorovicza, bareMinerals and Juice Beauty.
Foundations: My everyday makeup is the cult classic RMS Beauty concealer and foundation in one, just sheered out with my fingers or a brush. But now there's a new RMS Beauty foundation formula for those who prefer fuller coverage and a more traditional cream texture. Another option is the Guerlain silicone-free foundation (although it is fragranced). The Kosas foundation broke me out badly, but if you are not sensitive to oils, it may be worth a shot!
Concealers: For a clean concealer, I always use RMS Beauty, but I'm going to invest in ILIA this time and see how that goes! (It's also silicone-free.) If I need to cover a pimple, Make Up For Ever has been my go-to product for years and years.
Powders: I swear by translucent powders because they tame shine without leaving any texture on your skin. ILIA is my number one pick, but I also like RMS Beauty.
Highlighters: No product is as magical as highlighter for making your skin look healthy and natural. Try RMS Beauty, ILIA or Kora Organics.
Editor’s Picks: Bath & Body
Shower gels: For a sulfate-free cleanse, I recommend the shower gels from Dr Roebuck's, REN and Consonant.
Body scrubs: There are so many great scrubs out right now with natural ingredients. Try the ones from Herbivore (both Coco Rose and Crushed Amethyst), REN and Kopari.
Bath soak: Herbivore's coconut milk soak is addictive (and makes a great gift).
Body moisturizers: I'm extra particular about the ingredients in body moisturizers, since they go on a larger surface area and you're absorbing more product. Dr Roebuck's, Kopari, REN and Lavanila tick off my boxes.
Editor’s Picks: Beauty Supplements
Collagen: I take Vital Proteins every morning, and they honestly do make a difference with your skin, nails and hair. They also have a Marine Collagen version that is equally beneficial.
Vitamin D: I always look for as few ingredients as possible in my supplements, so I'm impressed that HUM Nutrition has only four (D3, olive oil, gelatin, glycerin and water).
Digestive enzymes: In an unexpected move, RMS Beauty sells an enzyme supplement that eases digestion and increases energy and nutrient absorption.
Magnesium: The Moon Juice magnesium powder should help with relaxation and restful sleep (since most of us are deficient).
Milk thistle: Dark circles are notoriously hard to treat, but the HUM Nutrition supplement is worth trying. It has milk thistle, dandelion root and artichoke leaf to support liver health, and the reviews are super positive.
Editor’s Picks: Gift Sets
Skincare gift sets: A gift set is the best way to try out a luxury skincare line, without having to buy full sizes of all the products. That's why I think the sets from Dr. Barbara Sturm and Omorovicza are the most worthy investments this year. Also check out the kits from Drunk Elephant, Caudalie and The Inkey List.
High tech tools gift sets: If you're thinking about investing in a microneedling or microcurrent tool, you'll get great value with the sets from BeautyBio and NuFace.
Makeup gift sets: If you love clean makeup, the best sets are from RMS Beauty for luminizers, Kosas for eyeshadows and Bite Beauty for lipsticks.
Body gift sets: Herbivore and Kopari have you covered with pampering sets for the body.

Okay, let’s talk face wash. The truth of the matter is...
Tumblr media
Okay, let’s talk face wash. The truth of the matter is that while it’s essential (it keeps our skin clean and the makeup off our pillowcase), it’s annoying. Unlike moisturizers, masks, and serums , which all have a kind of luxurious and ritualistic feel to them, slathering cleanser all over our face is a 15-second experience maximum, feels like the ask of the century after a night out with too many tequilas, and, perhaps worst of all, leaves us with water dripping down our forearms. It’s just not the most enjoyable step come nighttime skin prep . Alas, as we said, face wash plays a vital part in priming our skin for our other (more exciting) products and treatments and ensures our pores remain clean and our blemishes banned.
That said, since face wash is, indeed, the most fleeting step in our skincare routine and circles the drain instead of soaking into our face, it’s just not worth spending an arm, leg, and hefty portion of our paycheck on. In fact, there are countless drugstore face wash formulas that are just as effective at nixing dead cells and any aftermath of makeup—many of which specifically cater to different skin types.
We did you the favor of perusing the face wash selection of a few of our favorite affordable beauty retailers (think Ulta, Walmart, and Amazon) to pick the best-of-the-best formulas we either use ourselves or would personally recommend to a friend. Keep scrolling for 15 drugstore picks that made our cut.
Every beauty editor loves this cult-loved French drugstore brand. And while its basic micellar water is probably its most iconic formula, we recommend this special formula for those with oil-prone skin types. We love the feel of the gel-to-foam formula and have a special appreciation for the brand’s Fluidactiv Sebo-correcting complex, which keeps sebum levels in check alongside other strategic purifying picks like zinc and copper sulfates.  Time and time again, top dermatologists (who, ahem, do have access to all the best and most expensive products in the industry) have recommended this budget-friendly cleanser for those with sensitive skin woes. It leaves skin feeling fresh and soft, and is free of all dyes, fragrances, and other potential irritants.  This naturally-powered face wash is a dream for all skin types and is 100% vegan and cruelty-free. Plus, it’s also enriched with a bunch of other glow boosters like coconut water, papaya extract, and sea vegetables to up your daily hit of antioxidants.  If you feel dry and sensitive, this is one of our favorite drugstore face washes to soothe an aggravated complexion. It helps calm irritation and redness and helps easily remove dirt and oil without throwing your skin’s natural hydration levels out of whack. Soothing feverfew and nourishing oat are the two all-star ingredients.  Equally great for both combination and oily skin types, this acid-infused cleanser from drugstore fave brand Vichy is a game changer thanks to a hard-hitting mix of LHA, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid. And it’s easy enough on your skin for everyday use.  Truth be told, we hadn’t heard of this under-the-radar face wash until one day we noticed it had an almost perfect five-star rating at Ulta. It’s affordable at just $13 and boasts a unique ingredient strategy (think pore-cleansing free range fertilized egg extract) to leave skin purged of clogging oils, grease, and debris.  I first discovered this French drugstore staple via my 72-year old mom (who has delicate, sensitive skin), and I’ve been recommending it to friends and co-workers as a wallet-friendly face wash alternative ever since. It’s enriched with thermal water, ceramides, brightening niacinamide, and hydrating glycerin. Micellar waters are super popular right now, but if you have certain skincare concerns like excess oil, acne, or sensitivity, they’re not always an appropriate option when it comes to finding your ultimate face wash formula. However, if you’re someone with a relatively normal complexion, feel free to reach for this top-selling elixir from Garnier. (It can even remove stubborn waterproof makeup!) Less than $10 and bursting with hydrating hyaluronic acid (a must for dry skin!), this is one of the best moisturizing face washes we’ve tried from the drugstore. It’s proven to boost the skin hydration levels and also gets rid of makeup and other inevitable impurities in one fell swoop.  Formulated with nice-for-the-skin things like bamboo buffers (for necessary exfoliation) and flower botanicals to soothe and replenish the skin, this multi-tasking cleanser is free of oil and a top recommendation if you’re a combo of oily and dry.  Tea tree oil is nature’s heaven-scent antidote for those who struggle with excess oil and/or annoying cycles of breakouts. And it’s this soothing face wash’s starring ingredient.  Free of oils, fragrances, soaps, and other potentially irritating ingredients, this $5 face wash is great for removing dirt and makeup effortlessly. Plus, the luxe foaming lather just feels really damn nice at the end of the long day.  This ultra-gentle face wash is great for those who fall into the normal or oily skin type categories. The ingredient list has a basic, no-frills-attached strategy, which leaves skin feeling hydrated, clean, and balanced.  Even top dermatologists (who we love peppering with drugstore product questions) love this affordable, yet effective face wash. It’s specifically formulated for parched, dehydrated skin and features key players like ceramides and hyaluronic acid to infuse the complexion with a needed surge of moisture.  This best-selling face wash plays nicely for normal, oily, and combination skin types who battle the occasional bout of oil with the inevitable consequence of blemishes. Benzoyl peroxide is the strategic addition used in this daily drugstore face wash in order to help remove oil and dirt while simultaneously treating and discouraging breakouts.  Next up: This Is the Best-Selling Mascara on Amazon, and It’s Only $5
