Had the urge to draw these two again because I'm so sick and tired of seeing so much discourse and detractors about them as a couple on TikTok and YouTube. I’ve recently stumbled onto some edits of them getting a divorce, and while I respect others opinions on Sharon settling with a better man- y’all acting like Randy can’t get his act together and act like a normal husband towards her, which he’s done during the series like multiple times 💀

Though for the most part, I kinda blame the flanderization of him in recent years for this, especially with that one recent special where he bodyshames her, like, what the literal hell was that nonsense? I hate it sm, Randy would never do that 😣

My apologies if I sound like a broken record for saying this for the 200th time, Ik these two are an imperfect couple, but that’s what I like about ‘em. They don’t always act like a mushy, lovey-dovey, squeaky-clean, Disney-esque couple (not a jab at Disney couples, I live and breathe them, but you get my point). Both of them have their flaws like quarreling and bickering and that’s what makes their relationship realistic, because, newsflash, some irl couples act like that too. If their relationship were sunshine and rainbows all the time, then it would just be boring to watch. They’ve had plenty of moments to prove that they have a decent marriage. One of my DA friends said this a while back and I fully agree with them; a couple with their ups and downs is a lot better than a toxic marriage happening every single episode.

And at least Randy doesn’t treat Sharon awfully 24/7, cheats on her with other people, married her solely for her looks, or told her that he hates being with his kids. And imo they’re a healthier couple then the other parents like Staurt and Carol and Stephen and Linda don’t @ me plz-

My silly rant out of the way, when I was younger I had this habit of inserting my favorite franchises into random fairytales. I don’t know why I did it so much, I just liked the concept of it. I’ve done it with Mario, Banjo-Kazooie and Cuphead, now I’m doing it with South Park. The theme I wanted to go for was Red Riding Hood after binge watching those “Dark origins of your childhood fairytales” videos, bumping into some other fairytale AUs on here for some inspo, and listening to Monster by Lady Gaga and Won’t Bite by Doja Cat one too many times.

Wanted to go for a stylish but sultry look for Riding Hood!Sharon, and as for Werewolf!Randy I definitely went full on furry on him in this picture. I am not sorry at all. Now I just kinda picture some scenarios where he acts like an actual dog. Like, Sharon has him on a leash and takes him on walks, sprays him with a spray bottle anytime he starts actin’ up, or giving him some weed to calm him down when he enters feral mode. Randy is also very loyal and protective of his wifey, and will not hesitate to bite, scratch (and probably kill) you if you lay a finger on her. Also like the idea of him enjoying being scratched behind the ears and getting belly rubs haha

Just finished watching all of Kim Possible for the first time ever (and in English) and man, it's such a great show.

I did watch it as a kid whenever it aired in Finnish. (I miss those fun school mornings...) The dub was ok as well, though I won't go back to that again. Did check for some clips and I'm glad I was able to watch it back then, but CCR and Will Friedle are so good. The others are too, ofc.

Anyway, back then it was all tainted by my own feelings, cuz I too had a guy childhood best friend I had feelings for. I saw him and myself in them and wanted the same yadda yadda yadda. Well, stuff happened and we haven't talked in at least a year. No big, pfft.

At least this time I got to enjoy this show without them stupid feelings affecting my experience lol. (Except with the So the Drama "a loop has been formed and I'm not in it" and all the Ron feelings about Kim finding someone else. Ugh, been there.)

Anyway, binge watching gave me a completely new experience. Not much shipping related stuff in the first 2 seasons, though there were some I giggled over and replayed to analyze. Mostly just best friends being best friends. No significant awkwardness.

Seasons 3 and 4 though? GAHH. So much ship teasing. Emotion Sickness is my absolute fav episode with Kim getting a device that controls emotions and makes her fall in love with Ron, and the guy's so confused but also so so lovestruck. (He didn't know abt the device at first btw)

I love all those soff little Ron moments, I keep replaying them over and over.

Same here! There’s been a lot of great news lately, which has definitely helped make all the uncertainty surrounding Leon’s role within the squad a little easier to swallow. I’m glad both Jo and Lothar stuck up for Leon. You’re absolutely right too; midfielders know their position better than anyone else, and as such, they know quality midfielders when they see them. The fact that both midfield greats believe in Leon is a good sign.

I totally agree with you about Leon as a teammate too! All it takes is a quick scroll down his social media or even just listening to his teammates talk about him in interviews to see how they feel about him. He’s a lovable (sometimes mildly grumpy) muscle man, and they clearly think so too.

First, thank you so much for your very lovely words and I am very happy you like the story and how I write the characters! I do put a lot of thought in them so I am very pleased and especially that you are mentioning Rhaenyra because Daemon is usually everyone's fav XD

I am confused, however, when you say: "I wonder why you ship Daemyra if you think Daemon never really loved Rhaenyra in the book,"

Where exactly have you hear me say (write) this? I have never said this.

What I stress is the fact that from everything the books present us about Daemon I do not believe he would be able to love a woman let's say like his father Prince Baelon loved Princess Alyssa. That is just contrary to his character and to whom he is. But that in no way means I find him incapable of love and affection in any way. I don't.

I discuss Daemon's feelings for Rhaenyra at great lengths in here as well as what love meant for someone like Daemon. It's undeniable that he desired her, that she had given him things he wanted (sons especially), that she possessed many of the traits he was looking for in a woman, that he was adamant about being the only man in her life, that he remained loyal to her until the end and died for her cause -> make no mistake, Rhaenyra and Aegon III would have been beyond doomed. Not to mention that the two of them were similar people. Both of them are described as bold, charming when they wanted, slow to forgive, hot-tempered, Rhaenyra is described as proud and Daemon is shown to be proud through his actions. Both were shown to be arrogant and passionate... do I need to go on?

How strange is it that two people who have as much in common as these two had develop feelings for each other?

Not strange at all, and contrary to popular belief we usually do not stay with our opposites, we stay with our similars. Research shows that 6s stay with 6s and 8s with 8s. Yes, I am aware there are exceptions but research is usually conducted for the majority.

Back to your ask now, I at no moment ever said he didn't love her in the books and I do not believe it. Many "intellectuals" and "neutrals" have this take, and like i have said multiple times, a lie told too many times becomes the truth, and that happened with Daemon and Rhaenyra when I joined this fandom. The dogma was that Daemon's true love was Laena and that he had a complete personality shift when she came along, like he was Satan became Jesus, and then switched again when she died -> because of course that love changes people, said no one who ever took psychology 101 ever - and he was a terrible husband to Rhaenyra though we do not see any of this prior to mid-way through the Dance. In fact, he went into a lot more work to woo Rhaenyra than he ever did Laena, but that spoils the narrative so let's ignore it *wink emoji*

That was never my take on Daemon or on Daemon and Rhaenyra's relationship even because I do not see evidence in the text that supports such claims. "Oh but just because it isn't said doesn't mean it's not true." Ok this game again, then I can defend that Corlys had a secret twin brother. Yes, it's not said, but that doesn't mean it's not true. So prove to me good folk online that Corlys didn't have a twin brother? Oh, you can't? Exactly.

I enjoy the toxic aspects of their relationship as well. I enjoy the chaos, it makes them entertaining in fiction. To me they are the most interesting couple and I will again use the metaphor that to me Daemon and Rhaenyra are two people playing a game of chess that neither can win and they both know it.

favourite colour(s): Jeweltones? At least that's what my wife says they are. Deep vivid colors- typically blues, greens, and oranges. But we'll go with blue for this.

favourite genre(s): Of??? Fiction??? Or writing? Either way I think my best time is to be had with adventure and mystery, but tinting both with a comedic edge. Not marvel level but some lightheartedness to break things up here and there. Things that play out on a bigger scale. Whether it's geographical or emotional. Toss some fluff in there.

 favourite music: I've got a pic somewhere that makes fun of how varied my taste is. I dunno where I'd place it. Indie? Otakucore? The artist I've been savoring the most as of late is SIAMES. They're amazing. Just listen to this.

last movie: Puss in Boots Last Wish. :^) I'd see that again to be honest. Totally out of left field how good it was. Had no right going that hard with style, substance, and character. Hope it wins best animated pic.

currently reading: I tried reading the Bullet Train book but couldn't really get into it as much. I dunno what it says about me that I found the movie a lot more entertaining and compelling. The complete book I read before that was the 7.5 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. And that was a couple years ago.

currently watching: A few things. F to the Nier anime, because that was really good. I'm really enjoying Tomo-chan is a Girl, Trigun Stampede, and the campfire isekai tho.

currently working on: Kinda scattered right now trying to set my gears. I was doing drafts on @cadcnce and now I might do some more here or hit things on the sideblog. We'll see. My wife's about to leave for work and then I'll settle in and decide... perhaps... after a nice long workout. :V

Just read the Brokeback Mountain short story (I honestly had no idea about it so I'm so glad you mentioned it) and I definitely like it more then the movie (even though the movie is still great) and I can see how you based your telling of it more off of the short story

I feel like it's so common in the showing of gay love stories (specifically the man/man ones) that one or both of them are cheating on girlfriends/wives and while it is pretty common in the real world we deserve some happy stories with zero cheating or miscommunication so it's amazing to be able to read Brokeback Mountain without cheating and with Calum and Ashton

And it definitely deserves more recognition and love, it's an amazing story!!

hello empty gut anon!! sorry, I saw this last night at 2 am but am just now getting around to it.

I read the short story I think my freshman year of high school?? and idk when I saw the movie but I think it was a couple months after and to me it just doesn't have the same punch because it loses the "you just have to stand it line" which is the most powerful one to me. That being said, I haven't seen the movie for years and years so it honestly might be time for a rewatch.

I agree with you that mlm stories often include some type of infidelity. I know that cheating rates are high within any relationship (it's smthn like 1/4 of marriages experience cheating, right?) but I feel like fiction often goes out of its way to include it especially with gay men. It always just... makes it out to be tantalizing, y'know? It creates the forbidden feel to it (and I think makes some people feel more comfortable watching it because they already inherently felt it was forbidden and now there's a legitimate layer to make it that; and it also plays into the stereotype of gay men being very sexually promiscuous which is like a whole other rant). And I don't enjoy it!! I agree that queer people deserve to have romances without the extra underlying layer of "oh this is wrong, that's why they have to sneak around." I understand it in Brokeback considering the time period and setting but we still see media today that continuously presses that narrative. I think queer people (and just romance in general) deserve healthy communication!!

And yes, thank you again!! as an avid fanfic reader/writer, it's a really cool thing that people create works and share them for no benefit other than just their love of the characters and writing!

It was late evening when Damon and Elena finally arrived at the Boarding House. They took their time walking there together, enjoying the crisp air as the sun set.

'Past' Damon met them at the door with a wave and a smirk, "Hello Elena and hello… me. Why don't you two come inside?"

"Where are Stefan and 'past' Elena?" Damon inquired as he took a seat in front of the blazing fire.

"Stefan's been having some issues with his blood lust lately, though I'm sure you two know about that already. Elena is with him though so hopefully they will be here shortly."

"I'm not sure if I want them to come…" Elena muttered, hoping both Damons would understand what she was talking about.

"Elena, you have to get this out of the way eventually," 'future' Damon reassured her, taking the seat next to her as the other Damon fixed himself a drink.

"Would you mind fixing me a drink as well?" Damon asked his past self, only to be given a glare in response.

Damon sighed before turning his attention back to Elena who seemed to be anxious by the way she was chewing her lip. "Elena?"

"I… sort of ran into my past self at the dance, Damon. She knows I'm here."

"Yeah…"

"How am I going to explain this to her?"

"Well, she is you so you'll know how to address things with -"

Elena cut him off, throwing her hand in the air with a sigh, "But that's the problem. I'll know how she'll react to this, especially if I tell her about you and me."

"And by you and me, you would mean?" 'past' Damon smirked as he twirled his drink in his hand.

Elena stood up as she glared right at Damon and marched her way across the room, "You said earlier we needed to talk, so let's talk."

"Right now?" 'past' Damon choked on his drink at her forwardness while 'future' Damon smirked in amusement.

"Yes, Damon - right now," she demanded, folding her arms over her chest.

"How about we discuss in private, maybe upstairs… so Elena and Stefan don't just walk in?"

Elena looked back at Damon on the couch and when he just shrugged at the two, she followed 'past' Damon up the stairs to his room.

As she entered, Elena tried to with hold back a shiver when she looked at his bed.

"When you left here the last time I said some things and I should, at the very least, apologize to you but I also need to get things off my chest and to make you understand."

Elena nodded with a sincere smile as she took a seat upon his comforter, patting the spot next to her, "I'm listening."

Stefan and Elena entered the Boarding House quietly, hands interlocking after their whole ordeal and Stefan feeling like a renewed and better man.

Damon looked up from his drink and the book he happened to pick up, "Hey, you're here," Damon announced, standing from the couch as the couple entered the room.

"Yea, we are," Stefan replied with a skeptical look.

"Just didn't expect you to come home so soon," Damon muttered as he watched Elena head towards the stairs, "Where do you think you're going?"

Elena turned around on the landing to give Damon her usual glare, "I know this is your house as well, Damon, but it's really none of your business. Besides, I'm just going up to Stefan's room. Good night."

Damon battled with himself if he should go after her, though his room wasn't close to Stefan's - but still, what if she overheard them talking in his room?

"Damon?" Stefan called out to him, probably wondering why he was staring at Elena.

"I..I'm fine, just a long couple of days, you know."

Stefan nodded before he turned to Damon with an intense stare, "Thank you."

Damon tried to keep his eye from widening as he realized where Stefan was going. The he racked his brain; trying to remember the conversation they had all those years ago.

"You're back on Bambi blood and I'm the big bad ass brother again, all's right with the world," giving his usual smirks as he continued to drink his scotch but marveling just how wrong those words sounded now.

"No, I mean it," Stefan stated, as he took a seat next to Damon, "Thank you for… helping her take care of me."

"You brood too much," Damon replied, words falling out of his mouth so naturally, "Everything in this planet is not your fault. My actions, what I do, is not your fault. I own them, they belong to me. You are not allowed to feel my guilt."

"You feel guilt?" Stefan questioned.

Damon had forgotten how weird it was once between them and how much of an arrogant prick he was himself. "If I wanted to…" Damon muttered, not sure he was sounding like his cocky self, "It's there."

Stefan nodded solemnly before getting up and Damon sighed, knowing what he was about to say wasn't what he was supposed to, "Stefan."

"I'm glad you're alright, really glad you decided to keep living."

Stefan frowned as he stood right in front of his brother, "You're going to say something about your always present threat of a lifetime of misery for me?"

"Hmm," Damon mused as he tried not to wince, "That's kind of overrated now. Just know I don't hate you, not completely anyway, Stefan. Besides, we have… we will have bigger and worse things to worry about."

Stefan was just about to ask what Damon was talking about until the sound of shattering glass reverberated through the walls.

Stefan and Damon rushed upstairs to be greeted by a strange scene. Elena was leaning against the hallway wall with her back turned towards them, glass fragments scattered along the hardwood floor. Yet, Elena's attention was focused on the door in front of her with another Damon standing in the door frame, protectively in front of another Elena.

The whole situation had Stefan questioning his own sanity. First Damon tells him he doesn't completely hate him and then he was seeing doubles of his girlfriend and brother.

"What is going on here?" Stefan asked with frustration clear in his voice as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

"When I first saw you at the dance… I thought you were Katherine - you had to be but now… how can there be two Damons?" Elena gasped out, trying to come to a reasonable answer herself.

"I think it's best we go downstairs and… tell them everything," 'future' Damon suggested as he looked worryingly towards Damon and Elena standing awkwardly in the door way.

"I don't think we can explain this… not all of it." 'future' Elena muttered as she stepped in front of 'past' Damon, holding herself close as she tried to avoid the intense gaze from Stefan and her past self.

"Well, I can explain this to Stefan with 'other' Damon's help," 'past' Damon finally spoke as he continued to linger in the door frame of his bedroom.

"And what about me?" 'future' Elena turned back to stare at him in confusion.

"I think… or well, 'we' think it's probably best if you speak to yourself in person," 'future' Damon informed her, causing both Elenas to stare at him in disbelief.

Stefan and the two Damons made their way back to the living room, with a strong possibility of all three of them fixing themselves a stiff drink.

Elena wished she was with them instead of in Damon's room sitting on his bed while a pacing younger version of herself stayed silent for a couple minutes, every now and again shaking her head as she rubbed her temples.

"You're not Katherine?" she finally asked even though the question wasn't one of the necessary to ask.

"No, I'm not. I'm… well, this is going to be hard to believe…"

"I just learned vampires exist and my birth mother is one of them… I think I can handle anything."

'Future' Elena rolled her eyes before taking a deep breath, "I'm an older version of you sent here by Bonnie… from the future, and the second Damon out there is a future-version, who came to get me."

"You're right, that is hard to believe. And, wait,… how long have you been… here?"

"Here in this time? A couple weeks now. I was here right before the tomb was open."

"Did you know about the tomb vampires?"

Elena resisted rolling her eyes again, this wasn't the questions she needed to be answering but what could she do? The whole conversation felt surreal at the moment.

"Yes, I did…"

"And you didn't tell us about them?" Elena bit out as she cut her other self short.

"I told Damon… things haven't been easy since I came here. You have to understand that."

"No, I don't. You know of things that have yet to happen or so you claim. You could have stopped them!"

"Things like what? Shelia dying? Vicki turning? Look, this is not the conversation we need to be having right now, there are more important things to deal with."

"No… I want answers."

"And you'll get them… some of them- just not from me and not now."

"But you should have the answers I'm looking for… If you are who you claim to be."

"I am!" Elena practically jumped as she stood up from the bed and in front of her younger self, "But things happen at a certain time for a reason… it all does. So we need to focus because Damon and I need to…"

"You can't be me. You must be Katherine," her past self cut her off once again, much to Elena's growing annoyance.

"Why? Why do you keep insisting I'm Katherine? What? Do you want me to tell you some long past secret or memory to convince you? Because I don't have time for this…"

"I would never act this cruel… and I would have never slept with Damon." Her future self stated his obvious disgust at the idea.

Elena paused as she looked back at her past self once again, like some freaky mirror. "How do you know that? Were you spying on us or something?

"No… I just happened to come across you two on my way to Stefan's room when I heard you two talking…" 'past' Elena didn't even bother finishing her sentence, her judging eyes already fixed on the imposter.

"Forgot how nosy I use to be," Elena muttered, "We just had sex, it was just a quickie, anyway," Elena stated simply, added a silent 'that time' in her thoughts.

"Why would I ever dare sleep with Damon? I'm with Stefan. I love Stefan and I always will," the past version stressed as she pointed to her heart as if her 'future' self cold never understand.

Elena managed to not scoff at how she was acting right now. Was this how she really was when she was younger? Of course, she remembered being so stuck in her ways that it took her dying and the deaths of others to finally break her out of it.

"It's Damon of all people; he's just some loose womanizer. Did you fall for his so-called charms or something? You can't possibly love - "

"Oh, grow up!" Elena stated bluntly to her past self, even though she wanted nothing more than scream at her instead. She was ignorant and naïve, immature and inexperienced.

"You have this stupid notion of how love is supposed to be!- but it's not. And I know for a fact you're not thinking about your future with Stefan because of what will come up when you do. You get old and he doesn't, but you don't want to think about living forever or having to make that choice. And while you try to figure that out and stay blindly loyal to Stefan, Damon gets hurt over and over again in the process. It's not like he doesn't despise himself enough without everyone adding to it… but you don't care because despite everything he's done, all you can see are his mistakes."

Elena had to take a breath after her rant before she could finish, "Saddest part of all is that… you are the only one he would ever bare his soul to, the only person he would want to change for - to make himself a better man - for you more than he could ever do by himself."

After she finished, the younger Elena looked upon herself with a mixture ranging from hate and fear to confusion. The two seemed like nothing alike and 'future' Elena couldn't wait to get back to her own time. Thought, she had a strange feeling her past self felt the same way.

'Past' Elena tried to unclench her fist as she finally gathered her thoughts, "Stefan, Bonnie, and I help  you and… ' future ' Damon get back to your own time, but as of right now, this conversation is over." And with that she marched out the bedroom door.

Stefan stared at the two versions of his brother, not sure what to make of the whole ordeal. The one he had been talking to earlier revealed himself to be from the future, of all cliché places, while the other one, the present version of Damon, was upstairs with 'future' Elena. They had informed him of the current situation with the future versions of Elena and Damon - though he felt like they were leaving him in the dark about more than what happened upstairs.

"So, are you going to tell me what you and 'future' Elena were talking about upstairs? What Elena possibly walked in on?"

Silence was his only answer and it seemed, for some unknown reason, neither one was willing to talk about it. Stefan wanted to try to ask more questioned until he heard the soft padding of converse making their way down the stairs followed by the rush of another set of shoes.

Elena watched as all three sets of eyes turned to stare at her and her past self. Both Damons watched hungrily with adoration, while Stefan just sort of stared between the two with some confusion, especially as the older version like she was some stage show oddity. The look seemed to go unnoticed by both women, even while the younger version walked straight to him to give him a fierce kiss without so much as a word before pulling herself closer to his side. 'Future' Elena just looked away, stealing a glance at the two Damons.

Everyone in that room knew so many things were going on in that house and being left unsaid.

I made an OC, Della, who has made a few appearances and mentions, but nothing of much substance. Yet. She still has a role to play once things get back to her territory again, but for now. Yeah, kind of did not highlight her as much as originally intended.

Definitely Glen. Always and forever. I only started writing because there was no other fanfiction for him, and dammit, that's not right. Although, Lloyd does have a soft spot in my heart too. (Yes, canon problems, I know. Don't ask me how this works, I don't have answers... My brain is weird.) I guess for my fanfic purposes, Glen gives comfort, and Lloyd needs it. Aww man, wrong time for this question to hit. I'm very much a hurt/comfort trope lover, and we're in the last 5 chapters (epilogue excluded), so hurt is happening in force right now. There will be some recovery bay personal reflections, as well as revealed backstory, that will spur on a few unexpectedly fluffy moments, but that will be another chapter away.

🤯 - Personal character hc for WIP?

Since there is an 'oopsie' pregnancy now, but only one, I should probably say I hc pretaken steps from both Glen and Hayden. With his canon line "never saw the point in the little fuckers", I'm pretty resolved that Glen has taken steps to avoid the possibility. Too strong of a stance to risk it. And Hayden understood the inherent risk in her life; bringing children in unless there was no other option would be reckless. Also she never had a strong desire to have them in the first place. Better to avoid the off chance altogether.

🍻 - Favorite dynamic duo in WIP?

Glen and Hayden for sure, just because they started everything. I hadn't originally intended to write a sequel story at all, and it was just Hayden and Glen in Spiral. Although, Max and Harold are really fun to write because they're just such snarky bitches.

If you’re his s/o he will give every bit of him to you and expects the same for you. I would categorize him as a boyfriend wo acts like a mom lol. It maybe hard to digest that information but trust me this feeling I have from my gut I can say that he is also very caring. Although he might not say things like I will be there whenever you need me or even I miss you, care for you, but he doesn't need to say this anyway. belated book asks, thank you for indulging me!

1- What book are you currently reading? bros karamazov, 2/3s through atm.

i hate that i’m thinking about pathologic (video game) the entire time but i can't help it. the way characters are constantly bursting into people's houses & going "you’re an angel, you're the best person i've ever met, you're a saint" to someone they just met 5 minutes ago is so. distinct. i joked on twitter that the first half of the book is just alyosha running around completing sidequests, which i still think is true, but once i got to the grand inquisitor part i was like "Okay mr dostoevsky, you’ve got me."

2- What book did you recently finish? "selections from science & sanity" by alfred korzybski, recently featured in the gumby quotes. a while back i listened to a 6 hour long interview with robert anton wilson where he talks about korzybski & general semantics so i gave it a shot. it's an abridged version of a 900 page book & i definitely plan on reading the full work at some point, it's wild. if you’re interested in language, consciousness, the gap between words & meaning, and/or hacking your brain i would recommend it. he repeats himself a lot but that's a side effect of his pedagogy, the goal of which is the eventual re-wiring of your entire nervous system in order to achieve a more rational worldview/healthier reactions to things. (so repetition via words/sounds/actions is necessary 2 engage the organism-as-a-whole.) the most important takeaway for me is that everything & everyone you interact with is a completely unique object, and this necessarily extends to temporality-- Bob in 1999 is NOT the same person as Bob in 2010, and treating them as though they were is a harmful mistake. interestingly enough, im taking a class with J.F. martel (weird studies podcast, author of "reclaiming art in the age of artifice") & last night he said what amounts to exactly the same thing, except he was arguing for like, a soft animism (i-thou vs. i- it) & korzybski was arguing for a more "rational" & secular world. so fascinating.

THE TRUTH: i was obsessed with lotr from age 8 to 13 with a level of dedication that i've never known since. yes, i would still read it now. i reread the silmarillion last year & it was naturally a way more rewarding experience than when i was a kid! 8- Fantasy or sci-fi? i like & have read a lot of older sf/f (le guin asimov pkd etc etc) but im not actively into either nowadays. i read whatever reaches me from the queer sf/f twitter pipeline (like whatever's on wizards vs lesbians) but otherwise dont pay much attention. so the answer is "idk!!!”

when i read “time loops” it felt like everything i had ever read (& will ever read future tense) was for the sole purpose of understanding it. “time loops” picks up where J.W. dunne's 1927 "an experiment with time" left off. i won't say too much more about it but everyone should read it. it's so smart & engaging & will totally blow your miiiind, maaaan speaking of "an experiment with time," in 1964 a guy named vladimir nabokov began an experiment of his own following the directions dunne laid out in his book. dunne encouraged readers to write down their dreams in order to test the theory that a later event could generate an earlier dream.

nabokov’s experiment with dreams & time strongly influenced “ada or ardor: a family chronicle” which happens to be my favorite novel. i first read it when i was 18, and i've reread it 3 times since then (with the help of ada online, my beloved http://www.ada.auckland.ac.nz/ ) i would not recommend this book to anyone who doesn’t already like nabokov & know what he’s about. it’s fucked up & self indulgent & i love it so much

Will you be watching HotD? And what do you hope to see from the show if you do? I saw an ask somewhere that worried they'd make them more heroic than they were in the books - similar to how they portrayed Dany we more heroic for the sake of the shock value of her being dark.

Will I be watching HotD, possibly in a very OOC way for a Targ critical fan I most surely will be watching it. For one, because as I've said countless of times I might be critical of Daenerys and her whole family of invaders and conquerors, I actually am deeply interested and invested in complex and grey characters.

Sansa Stark and Samwell Tarly might be two of my top 5 fav characters in the whole franchise (both book and show, tho the order might change if we think book canon or show canon) but I enjoy analysing also the villains of every piece of fiction I consume, honestly they are — most of the time, barred some few characters — some of the best written ones which makes them super interesting in my opinion. And this is especially true for asoiaf.

So, why will I be watching HotD? Well, who doesn't enjoy a good piece of fiction over characters so plausible? Also, I always found extremely interesting and complex the story of Empress Maud (upon which, I think, Rhaenyra was inspired), and I believe the whole trailer has given us a sneak peek of quite an interesting characterisation of Martin's characters.

I don't think they'll go for more heroic than in the books, because — let's face it — they've seen that people enjoy that edge of darkness and the history is already written, they know how it's going to end, I don't think they'll sweeten the morsel too much, tho I might be wrong. They might have done so if they had chosen to follow the entire plot of Blood and Fire, or made a prequel exclusively on the conquest as they could've framed the similarities between Aegon and Daenerys and kind of make a Daenerys-apologist show that would have attracted many Targaryens fans. I doubt they'll be, on the whole Rhaenyra plot, as subtle as they would've been with a show made about the conquest. So I don't believe the Targaryens are going to end up coming out heroic from HotD.

—› Also, as I've said a couple of times already, while they did whitewash Daenerys aplenty, they didn't exactly frame her more heroic out of their own device, they put in action the whole POV trap, the whole of her story is told up until s7 by her own POV (hence the usage of the triumphant score) and by the time s7 rolled around (with only one more season to go — while Martin has still yet two books that will be gigantic) they started to have her POV fall around her and the POV trap crumbling around her. And we see that especially by the way the scenes are framed and the score used or not used to leave room to the cries of pain, sorrow and terror.

It’s pretty clear they’re told only by her POV, as they are triumphant and show her defeating the evil masters who want to rule the world. 

While from s7 things start to change, there are other POVs and the score is being added always later until not added at all to leave room for the screams of agony, terror and horror of the people who suffer because of her.

Sorry for the digression but to answer your inquiry, I don't think what they did with Daenerys was completely deceitful of them for reasons, did they exaggerate the framing and score to get across the whole of the POV trap that Martin has build up in his books, yes? Was the twist rushed at the last minute? They could've played it better, for sure, but the points were there from the very beginning, it just took someone able to get out of the perspective of the narrator to see it. Many were blinded by her own reasoning as she is, as we all are when it comes to ourselves. This will hopefully not happen with HotD, for one because the story is already written and we know how this ends perfectly as Martin has already finished with her story — unlike with Daenerys' story — and secondly because they've seen that these years people tend to like unapologetically ambitious women capable or incapable as any other man, they are not sugarcoating this, neither about Rhaenyra not about the whole Targaryen House. [I pray]

So I look forward for an interesting, 360 degrees, characterisation of Rhaenyra Targaryen and her tussle-tear-and-pull campaign for the Iron throne, I hope they give us both the dreamy girl who is ambitious and cunning and the woman who was ready to do anything to have what she believed hers and her sons'.

Something they have failed with Daenerys, as they have whitewashed her too much for the sake of last-minute-shock-twist. Though I doubt they'll do the same for Rhaenyra because we already know where her history is headed.

So I hope in a more 360 degrees characterisation of our main cast.

And I am thirsting for any kind of Cregan Stark/Sansa Stark parallels (the lord/lady of Winterfell reaching KL after the assassination of a king/queen of the Iron throne, basically cleaning up the mess — taking/threatening to take the city to restore order — and then saying ‘bye, bye, bye, I am returning to Winterfell and taking one of the opposite faction home with them) the show will feed us. Am I reaching blindly into the void and will be probably end up disappointed? Possibly. Do I hope they won't butcher it? Also yes.
