We’re all insecure and hungry for validation, aren’t we?

Tired of hearing everyone talk, with false humility, about what they’ve accomplished over the past year? Me too

Be careful out there: it’s boasting season. Maybe you’ve already been cornered at a party, received your first round-robin email, opened a card to find a typed insert of “family news”, or stumbled on a social media post where someone lists their 2023 accomplishments with the baffling hashtag #humbled (you’re not, are you? Quite the opposite)...

I struggle with “success bombing” as I saw it described recently; everyone’s accomplishments all up in your face. Saying that makes me sound like I’m self-effacingly modest, a paragon of self-deprecation, which would be a brag of sorts, too – but I’m not modest. I’m insecure, in thrall to comparison, inclined to see others’ successes as a reproach for all I haven’t achieved. Isn’t there a bit of that in both extremes of this dance-off between compulsive self-deprecation and the desire to scream success from the rooftops? We’re all insecure and hungry for validation, aren’t we?

Well, not all of us. I’ve realised it’s possible not to feel threatened by other people’s expressions of pride at their and their family’s successes, whether or not it tips into bragging. I know, because there are people in my life who are comfortable and secure on their own path, able to feel simply happy for others, or if someone’s really overegging it, gently, indulgently amused. I wish I was like them, the weirdos.

So maybe those of us who feel a twinge of recognition at that Gore Vidal quote about dying inside at others’ success need to find a coping strategy other than grinding our teeth to dust? This year, I’ve adopted a blandly beatific: “That’s wonderful!” Because actually, I suppose it is? Anything that adds a drop to the leaky pot of human happiness is worth embracing.

to my moots/lovely lurkers: if you've been following me for a bit then you may remember my first post i made for amal and her family in late june.

in a short span of time- amal has become a dear friend of mine and her campaign has been able to receive a significant amount of traction thanks to everyone who has continued to share her messages with the world. i'm writing you all today to share amal's latest message to me:

several friends of mine have heard the same sentiment shared by other ghazzans: the rafah crossing may reopen very soon

the targeted attacks within the gaza strip are ramping up- with several massacres being executed by the israeli army in one day. this is a deliberate tactic used to conceal the true extent of their war crimes. families like amal are scrambling to raise enough funds to be able to cross into egypt. with this latest revelation of the border reopening- the time to act has never been more crucial.

so far, amal's family has raised ~44% of their goal (€13,288/€30,000)

please share her campaign as much as possible + donate if you can so they may all get to safety

amal was my inspiration to launch the art campaign boost. because of her, several families have been able to gain more visibility on this platform. please continue to give them all your undivided attention/support.

Michael Joseph Bost (/ˈbɔːst/ BAWST; born December 30, 1960) is an American politician. A member of the Republican Party, he has served as the U.S. representative for Illinois's 12th congressional district since 2015. From 1995 to 2015, Bost was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 115th district. Before holding elected office, he was a firefighter.

This man is almost perfect. The only thing wrong with him is that he isn’t in my bed. Nice build, nice dresser and a very handsome face. My dreams are haunted by him, teasing me with his address and cell number that I forget upon waking. He is such a dream cocktease. And because I want him so badly, he’s married with children. Something tells me he could bring it bed. And I happily invite Mr. Bost to prove me right.

Bost is a lifelong resident of Murphysboro, graduating graduated from Murphysboro High School in 1979. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps serving his country from 1979 to 1982. He attended a firefighter academy program offered by the University of Illinois, later becoming a firefighter in 1993 and continued to serve the Murphysboro Fire Department during six of his ten terms as state representative. Prior to that, Rep. Bost worked for 13 years at Bost Trucking Service, first as a driver and then for 10 years as a truck manager.

Bost and his wife, Tracy, have three children: Steven, Kasey Fred, Kaitlin Rose and 11 grandchildren. Since 1989, he and his wife Tracy have owned and operated White House Salon in Murphysboro. Lets see… He has a temper ranging from paper- throwing, microphone- slamming, Bible-invoking tirades and even once hunted down and killed a beagle that bit his daughter. Bost insists he doesn’t have a temper problem. He simply becomes passionate, he says, when he feels he or those close to him have been wronged. Well mike, I feel wronged by you not fucking me. What are you going to do about it.
