Rajasthan girl pulled out 10 days after falling into borewell, declared dead
After 10 days of searching, three-year-old Chetna's body was found in Kotputli. She was declared dead at the hospital. A post-mortem is underway as authorities continue investigating the incident.
A three-year-old girl, who fell into a borewell in Rajasthan's Kotputli 10 days ago, was declared dead on Wednesday.
Earlier today, after being rescued, she was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead and sent her body for post-mortem examination.
The girl was trapped in a 700-foot-deep borewell in Kotputli, and her condition worsened ahead of the rescue.
She had fallen into a borewell on the afternoon of December 23 while playing outside. About 10 minutes later, her family heard her cries and found her stuck in the borewell.
The national and state Disaster Relief Forces, along with a medical team, arrived promptly, and efforts to rescue her began.
Oxygen was supplied through a pipe. Earlier, attempts were made to pull out the girl using an iron ring attached to a rope.
However, there was no luck and a piling machine was brought to the spot on Wednesday to dig a tunnel parallel to the borewell. To accelerate the operation, a 100-tonne capacity crane was brought in on Thursday, replacing the 50-tonne machine. On Friday, the digging was stopped due to heavy rains in the region.
In the hours that followed, neither food nor oxygen could be provided, and her condition worsened.
The health of the girl's mother, Dhole Devi, has deteriorated since the accident. An emotionally distraught Dhole Devi had earlier appealed to the administration to bring her daughter out at the earliest, claiming negligence.
The girl's parents have blamed the local officials for prolonging the rescue operation.
