It's a big rainy day here, and it's meant to rain much of this week, seems like a good time to share rain loving friends. First up, this Boreal Chorus Frog! They're a native Canadian species, and come in green and brown, with fashionable stripes over the eye.
This guy found his home at Anime North.
If you'd like a bitty beast, please check out Bittythings and Beasts.

^ Pseudacris maculata cameo in bio. i think
#i speak#purely bc its from a canadian textbook so its probably a Pseudacris bc nothing else looks similar#and no other frogs i know really look like this#i need to get a really good herpetology textbook. sighs#there was also a red eyed tree frog and coacelanth ^-^ and caecilian erasure :(#<- ok i explained my reasoning poorly. of all north american and european frogs ik this looks like Pseudacris#it doesnt have the vibes of a frog from anywhere else (drab colours clearly quite small and needs a lot of water)#of all the chorus frog it looks most like a boreal one. but the patterning is off - it should be stripes#but some of them do look like this so. yayyy phenotypic variation

Video description: Chart showing audio clips of various American frogs with months labeled at the top. As the play bar moves through the months, the frog calls active at those months play.
First are Wood Frog, Boreal Chorus Frog, and Spring Peeper. Northern Leopard Frog joins almost immediately. American Toad and Gray Treefrog join together. Wood Frog then ends, followed by Boreal Chorus Frog and Spring Peeper. Green Frog enters around the time Boreal Chorus Frog and Spring Peeper end. Shortly thereafter, American Bullfrog enters. Northern Leopard Frog ends, then American Toad and Gray Treefrog end together, then the last two continue together until Green Frog cuts off shortly before American Bullfrog.

The sandhill cranes are back, the Canada geese are back, the boreal chorus frogs were singing tonight, but the horned owls haven't come back. Maybe they only like it here around the house when the trees have leaves on them.
