I love this book for kids because not only is it adventurous it pushes the boundaries of gender norms in readers from a young age. The simple act of Roy choosing a dress as a costume breaks fo many stereotypes as well as opens the doors to world of creativity that was once deemed unacceptable. It's a fun book for any child with its Kingdoms of Parfait, Flambe, Brule, and Sorbet (is anyone else hungry?). I would highly recommend this book if you're child loves to dream up new worlds and explore them because along with a adventurous ride, the illustrations are beautiful and mouthwatering at the same time! It is a Japanese Buddhist term, meaning a state of complete peace and calm. The book consists of 100 small Buddhist lessons to live life freely, live peacefully, be calm and embrace death easily. What I loved the most about this book is the lessons are extremely short, but life altering nonetheless. Also the illustrations in each page are soo unique! I have always been intrigued by Buddhism, and hence found the book really interesting. Reading a lesson a day from this book can really make some changes in life. Are you into self help books? While being a fun little read for kids, it's also written in a way to help them improve their vocabulary as well as reach them the importance of friendship in times of trouble and hardwork and dedication when things do not seem to go as planned. David's a character that will relate to many children because even though he's a Dragon Flyer, he's still young, and when you're young it's ok to mistakes and be nervous or confused. It's part of the process of learning to be brave, independent and dependable while understanding the difference between right and wrong. Overall, I loved the story with it's easy to read language and the beautiful illustrations spread throughout the book, along with the positive message being put forward by the author. We will stand out in battle and together be strong, Our turbans unite us, and show we belong. 🦄🦄🦄 Where is Daddy’s Crown is a children's illustrated book by RK Chopra and is the story about a Sikh boy named Karam and how he learns the importance of the turban in their Sikh faith after his father loses his turban. This book was written with the intention of teaching children (and parents) a little bit about the Sikh faith and to dispel some of the stereotypical views people have about the culture. Reading this book made me realise, being Indian I don't think we studied a lot about Sikhism in school other than the bare minimum and after reading this book, I understand the importance of kids learning thinkgs like the 5 K's (Kesh (uncut hair), Kara (a steel bracelet), Kanga (a wooden comb), Kaccha - also spelt, Kachh, Kachera (cotton underwear) and Kirpan (steel sword). Almost every significant body of water in Scotland has an associated kelpie story, and the common theme is that if you get onto their back, you are doomed to drown. 🦄🦄🦄 Mythical Creatures and Magical Beasts: An Illustrated Book of Monsters from Timeless Folktales, Folklore and Mythology: Volume 1 by Zayden Stone is the perfect book for everyone out there who loves magic and mythology because it provides a guide to the roots from where these stories have emerged. It is said that every myth we believe stems from some form of truth, be it superstitions or stories about mythical creatures, the stories and tales we've grown to love have told and retold over the generations, but have you ever wondered what is it's true origin? The author of this book focusses on the stories/myths of various animals/beasts and he has meticulously organised them and segregated them into six sections: Arthropoda, An Ancient Aviary, Cryptic Canines (by far my favorite section), the Eternal Hiss, the Unusual Ungulates and Aquatic Beasts. You might be familiar with most of not all these terms and what they stand for do it's not difficult to guess that just by reading the titles I was already hooked. It took me less than two hours to complete this book because I couldn't put it down. Every little detail was so interesting, so captivating that I wanted to know and learn more and by the time I reached the end I was heartbroken because I wanted to know what other creatures are out there that have such beautiful and intriguing histories but I never realised it. I found out that the key to pushing past my limits was to never give up--always reach up! I was capable of much more than I’d ever given myself credit to accomplish. 🦄🦄🦄 Blurb in the comments! 🦄🦄🦄 Stay the Course (Beginning to Endex) is the second book in the series by Deon McCarthy. I haven't read book one but, book two follows Steven as he manoeuvres his army life. I'm not very familiar with the US Army, but the author of the book is a retired Master Sergeant and Combat Veteran, so as expected he goes into great detail about life in the Army and all the hardships associated with it. A huge part of the book is more on the informative side with insights into how the Army functions etc., but because it's written in a story-like fashion you don't realise how much you've absorbed until the very end because what would have been considered as boring information to most turns out to be interesting. Reading about Steven, as a character is interesting because with every new experience he encounters and decision he has to make you start to understand what it truly means to be a part of the army. The last chapter hit me the hardest. I'm not going to give away much, but there's a brief conversation with his father and grandfather that makes everything a little bit more emotional and the reality of the life of a war veteran hits you like a ton of bricks. Overall, absolutely loved the book. It also introduces a fun way of teaching children the importance of cleanliness and how easy it is to tidy up after themselves. But, other than the moral factor, the story is a fun and adventurous one with a clever storyline and beautiful illustrations. The language is simplistic for a child and it also helps them learn new and easy words. Let's find out this uncanny and mysterious journey of adventure, survival and mysterious encounters. 🦄🦄🦄 The Hidden Gem In India: Old Manali by Jayant Jayneel is the author's tale of travelling through this gem and savouring every minute of it. He talks about every place visited, and the people he's met in the district which gives it a very 'in the moment' feel as we travel along with them and we get a sense of why he's fallen in love with the place so much he's made multiple visits over the years. I've never been to Old Manali before, neither have I read much about it, so I when I read this book I went in with no prior knowledge or perception whatsoever. So, reading about it gave me a sense of wonderment. Although, activities like trekking are not my cup of tea, I may be persuaded enough ti enjoy the sights. The author does not only talk about the places he's visited. He also goes into detail about every piece of food including every cup of that they consumed and even though it may not seem like much, it makes your mouth water with the anticipation to taste everything one day. If you scroll to the next slide I've included an example of the pictures that have been included so as to give a more realistic experience to a reader. The ‘I’ is young but then it also gets old. 🦄🦄🦄 Who Am I is an essay by Kalpesh Suryavanshi that looks into the question from the four perspectives; scientific, religious, spiritual & psychological. This isn't a self-help book, but more focused on opening your mind to think differently. The question 'who am I' is known for being a complex question because everyone does not know the answer to it on a deeper level. One of my favourite parts of the book ia this sentence: You are your body, You are your job, You are the clothes you wear, You are the personality you have, You are the name you have, You are the life you lived. Because we're not one dimensional people and even though sometimes we feel like we're 'nothing', we are so much more than that. I'm a huge fan of the Silent Patient so, I was looking forward to read this book and my excitement lead to me completing the book in a matter of hours. But, I have a few conflicting thouts. First of all, the book's a page turner. It keeps you on your toes as you move forward with the investigation and getting an adrenaline rush from a book is the best thing ever. The writing is great and the plot development in the beginning is WOW! However, the ending was a let down and while I'm partly feeling 'icky' (I don't know how else I can explain it) because of what happens, part of my mind's also going, 'wait, what?' It wasn't a bad ending, but somehow it doesn't make sense after everything that happened and my brain's just not willing to accept what happened! Also, given that it's a thriller, except for a couple of characters the others seem one-dimensional so when we reached the end it was a bit obvious 'who did it'. Overall, it was a fun read, but also more on the basic side and for me, it's good but over-hyped! 🦄🦄🦄 Rated 7/10 *Spoiler -skip if you want* I love that the author decided to have the Silent Patient and the Maidens in the same universe and that was made crystal clear when there's a small interaction. Sometimes a fear is too great and you feel like it takes over you and your life, and that's ok too. Ace the Aardvark has a fear of textures so he finds it difficult to eat certain foods and even walk on grainy sand. But, he slowly overcomes it by freezing his fears.
