I've found the greatest book

Specifically the greatest edition of a book. It's "The Castle" by Franz Kafka.

So let's start with the cover.

Like most people familiar with Kafka, I've only read "The Metamorphosis" from him. But I think it's safe to say this book isn't about a castle. But I'm loving the grainy vacation photo of a relatively small castle in the mountains.

But the real gem in here is inside.

I think the picture speaks for itself because what more is there to say about single-spaced, system-fomt looking walls of text? The entire eyesore genuinely captures the feeling of German existential ennui.

But the very best part:

Stellar indeed.

I know I should have already read The Bear and The Nightingale. I know it’s a book I’m going to love completely. And yet it’s been on my shelf forever. Major book fail. My rating: ⭐⭐ • • • DNF 😔 I tried..I really did. I was intrigued by the characters and the drama of a Chinese baby adopted by a Caucasian family. But this book just not deliver the "fire" I was looking for. Instead I got a long-winded story about Mia & Pearl that went on and on for 6 chapters, which is where I stopped. I gave up after that. Nemam običaj da odustanem od čitanja knjige, ali ova knjiga je toliko loše napisana da nemam izbora sem da se predam. Reklo bi se da autorki srpski nije maternji jezik te imamo brojne besmislene umetnute rečenice i neslaganja u padežu. Lektor je uredno potpisan, ali ako je ovo delo prošlo lekturu, strah me je da pomislim na šta je ličilo pre nje. Prvih pedeset stranica me je stilom podsetilo na one odlomke iz knjige Marijane Mateus koji su kružili internetom. Nema tog razvoja ličnosti ili radnje koji bi me naterao da nastavim da se mučim da protumačim šta je autor hteo da kaže. Adventures in bookbinding: Bookfails!

The perfect bound text-block isn’t technically a fail but it is one at the same time. The perfect binding worked, but not perfectly. There are some loose pages.

The chord-binding fail is uneven all the way around and I found out the hard way my mother’s guillotine paper cutter wasn’t meant for anything more than maybe a couple of sheets of paper at a time.

The cover-to-block sizing fail, plus the chain stitch fail (follow @sealemon’s wonderful tutorial) did at least have even pages.
