i dont know how else to put this but to approach books (or any media, really) solely for the sake of relatability is genuinely incredibly heartbreaking......to have such little (or such unwilling) imaginative scope that you cannot stretch yourself, even marginally, in a different direction to what youâve known or are used to knowing when the very POINT of stories is to transport you somewhere else, into someone else, so you can do just that........when fran lebowiz said a book âis supposed to be a door!â and george saunders said good prose âis like empathy training wheelsâ they were right!!! they were so so so SO absolutely entirely right!!!!!
#thinking about that last post still and i'm having so many thoughts#that people have relatability as the sole criterion is astonishing to me#like how else are you going to develop variegated textures in your relationships w others?#not to be dramatic but it seems like a little death to me. truly.#everything i read as a child and teenager was expressly something as different from my world as possible. bc i wanted to relate as something#other than me#once again it is. heartbreaking#truly it is#p#book talks#idir lĂșibĂnĂ

Hi! I just found your blog and i'm in love! Been scrolling through it for a good hour now đ
I was wondering if you could help me find my holy grail book. Here goes nothing: I borrowed a book about witches when I was about 10 or 11 (2005-2006) and i can recall it being large in size and filled with an encyclopaedic 'knowledge' about witches and stunning handdrawn illustrations. I recall a full spread illustration of a group of old and gnarly witches joyously flying through the air on broomsticks...naked, with flabby bits all over! Quite a humorous sight and that forever left an impression on me. It talked about all the nitty gritty, about witches husbands etc...
I have been looking all over for this book but have never, ever, found it anywhere... almost to the point i wonder if i imagined it... Does it sound like anything you've encountered?
I'm glad you've been enjoying the blog, I appreciate that! delights me to know that other people are enjoying it (âÂŽâĄ`â) I'm admittedly biased, but I love scrolling through a bunch of nice book illustrations
This book isn't ringing any specific bells for me... it made me think a bit of Brian Froud's artbooks, how it's set up like a "field guide" of a mythical creatures and he tends to not shy away from nudity in depicting his subjects, but I checked goodreads and it looks like he mostly does fairies and goblins and the like.
From some googling, the most promising option I came across was The Coffee Table Book of Witchcraft and Demonology by Paul Huson, published in 1973, so it's the sort of thing that might have been kicking around the back corner of a public library in 2005 (though probably not a school library) and it seems leans heavily into the encyclopedic side of things
#witches#1970s#book talks#requested books#paul huson#the coffee table book of witchcraft and demonology#i love a book hunt though i'm not always very fruitful... sometimes it's surprising the number of books that simply don't turn up#i own one picture book that honest to god does not seem to exist anywhere online - i searched by every single metric WHILE LOOKING AT IT#IN MY HANDS#and nothing#you'd think it didn't exist if it weren't for the fact that it's in my collection#anyway please let me know whether or not this is the book!!#and if it's not and you happen to have any more info feel free to kick it my way#i might not be able to find it but it could help narrow things down#because man. there are a LOT of books about witchcraft#even where in the library was it housed? colour of the cover? target audience?#most of the other ones that seemed possible are too new... google. my fucking worstie. let me search Older Material Please

I love seeing other people's book pictures and drawing inspiration for future ideas and that got me thinking recently:
What are some of your go-tos for book pictures?
My current favorite is a house plant that I bought on a whim. But I'm also a sucker for a good "book and a hot beverage" picture and I frequently will put a blanket or random piece of clothing with a fun color or patter on the floor and take book pictures that way.

Hey friend đ
Just wanted to rant about AFOTAR a bit lol. Donât judge me, my favorite character is Eris. I know that might seem a little iffy, but really heâs just a traumatized baby that wears a mask just like Rhys. He and Rhysand are basically the same people except Eris has no safe place, no inner circle. Makes me so sad and I wanna hug him!!! And really, half the inner circle just doesnât like Eris because he left Mor to die. But really, death for her was better than being shackled to the Autumn court, right? He didnât want Mor to suffer the same fate as his mother and I just love him for that â€ïž
Also, I saw you havenât read the last two spinoffish books. I havenât read the last one either so weâre both on the same page pretty much! Anyway friend Iâm so excited to rant to you about these characters and share my little headcannons for them!
Hey friend! :D Letâs go, ACOTAR thoughts!!! đ€©đ€©đ€©
Bestie you almost had me at that- I canât lie đ ERIS??? I wonât judge- mainly cause I have my own onslaught of questionable favorites in books and also cause itâs been forever since I read the trilogy- but ERIS??? (Lucienâs hotter gonna be real-)
I can see your reasoning though! While I donât think I myself will ever like anyone from the Autumn court besides Lucien- Erisâs choices did eventually lead to Mor having a better home in the end. I wouldnât wanna marry into that court either. Death would be more preferable compared to the court.
All and all: Iâm happy youâre so fond of him- and youâve given me a new perspective of his character I never really considered. If you said Tamlin, we would have some problems /j but yeah- more power to you, friend! đ„°đ„°đ„° I hope he gets that support group he desperately needs eventually!
Iâm thrilled to bits having you come by and rant about the books to me! Thereâs so many great things within, and I love hearing your takes on characters Iâve never given much thought of before! :) Iâd love to hear more of your thoughts, so please feel free to come by and chat whenever your heart desires!

I'm in the mood to talk about book series that rocked your whole world. And yeah the books we all grew up reading are fine but I wanna know about other books. Like the Life As We Knew It series where a massive asteroid knocks the Moon so close to Earth it looks like those super moon pics we've all seen but always, all the time, even during the day. The moon was always visible after that asteroid. It brought about an apocalypse of sorts. The main character is a teenager. That series is the reason why three book hating jocks I went to school with became avid readers.
What book or book series rocked your world and why?

i really hope this book gets better. i'm a little less than 100 pages in and i'm so bored. it's just a lot of talk about intense blue eyes, there's a lot of staring between the mmc and fmc, and the writing is super repetitive that just feels like they are trying to reach that word count goal.
i'm really surprised cause so many people have rec'd the dark verse series and it has a pretty high rating on goodreads, but so far i'm struggling hard to get through it. sorry i know you have not read it yourself, but i need someone to vent to. i will keep my ranting as vague as possible cause i hate spoilers. i hope it gets better cause if it doesn't pick up soon i think i will be dropping this series.
GAH. This makes me sad because fr itâs so well-loved, I expected better!!! Maybe itâs one of those series to people where the writing doesnât matter as much as them just having a good time with it and the characters? It doesnât need to be good to have a good time kinda thing haha.
Though the vibes really seem so good!!
Did you read more? How have you liked it? ESP compared to Sinners Anonymous series since you just read it!

@deep-aural-fixation Thank you! I love what a wide range there is to kidlit, so it's a lot of fun to try to find as much variety in it as possible! It's actually why I decided to tag posts according to decades -- I really love to see how styles and themes in children's books change from one decade to the next. 2020s books are different from 2000s books are different from 1970s books are different from 1920s books! And yet there are some things can connect them all, it's very cool.
and yeah, everyone has those certain books that they remember reading and they just hit differently ^^ I know in doing this I've come across some books where I can perfectly remember the classroom I was in when I read it, or the bookshelf at home I kept it on. That's another reason I try to find as many different types as possible, everyone's "special nostalgic books" are different from someone else's, so I hope that every so often people see a book that unlocks a memory for them
#honestly sometimes if i'm having a Rough Night i'll pick a decade or a theme and just scroll through the books in it to see#how different they all are#it sparks joy#anyway!! i got ramble-y#but thank you i'm glad you're enjoying the fruits of my labour ^^ this tends to be a fairly quiet blog so it feels good to know that there#really are people out there enjoying these books along with me#book talks
