whenever orym and dorian actually get together i need them to have the worst cheesy new couple energy, i want them to be so annoying about each other it pisses everyone off after two days i think they deserve that

sometimes when you're brainrotting two things, the only way to cope is to smush those things together. therefore: how i think bells hells would do at Blood On The Clocktower! (or social deduction games in general.) some of this is mechanical some of it is textual some of it is Just Vibes

Orym: Not the best at lying, but very good at figuring out when someone else is. Tends to hold of on claiming for a while unless he's like a top 4. Probably follows Fearne and/or Ashton around too much, regardless of their characters/alignments. If he's ever evil with one of them he gets very excited to the point that it's almost a tell. Orym is the guy who knows exactly who everyone has been talking to, he is watching EVERYONE in his peripheral vision.

Imogen: Deception queen, nobody clocks when she's lying, but she's not the best at coming up with strategic bluffs. Initially found playing evil Very Stressful, but i think she'd come around to it. DEFINITELY talks with Laudna first every single game.

Chetney: on the fucking case. this man is a genius at this game; if he's evil, nobody can tell bc he always acts this weird, it's no different, and if he's good, he solves the game when evil least expects it. not good at lying but gets by via the power of Lying Always For Shits And Giggles (And Also Tactics)

Ashton: mister -2 to charisma cannot lie for shit. they love the game anyways, but if he's the imp he's star passing pretty much immediately (orym is going to catch him if he doesn't lmao). enjoys interrogating ppl and trying to figure out their characters. probably downplays their own usefulness to the good team but often provides big pieces of the puzzle.

Laudna: absolutely loving it. the storyteller perchance? (altho i could see orym or ash getting in on it too? I May Be Projecting.) i think laudna gets very excited to be on the evil team (maybe too obviously excited), but overall is just having a good time, solving the mystery or being the demon. yeah the more i think about it the more i think she'd really like storytelling. i mean i wore my laudna dress the first time i hosted a clocktower party the vibes are right

FCG: probably one of those people who feels bad about lying in lying games lmao. i think they'd get really into it eventually though. i don't think he'd be good at bluffing while evil, but i think he'd have a really fun time as good and get really into solving it and figuring out wtf is going on.

Fearne: Pure Chaos. you can never tell if she's evil because she is always unpredictable. will commit to the bit always. will offer you the mez word as a good player. has turned several people evil bc they thought she was joking about the mez word and she was Not. she's def not BAD at the game, she's observant and she's good at bluffing, but she is An Experience, and i say that with the most love. very fun to play with i think.

Dorian: probably a little overwhelmed by the complexity (of clocktower specifically). he is, in the words of fearne, "a very bad liar". enjoys it nonetheless, but he is not the clocktower champ by any means (again, said with so much love). still, he's a good sport about it and he's having a good time, and that's what matters! i could def see him storytelling as well. (BONUS, if he brings dariax: he follows dorian around and asks him questions about how the game works constantly. catches ppl off guard w good bluffs sometimes but only when he lucks into good strats or a teammate tells him what to bluff as.)

okay i finished a playthrough of‏‏‎ ‎hush‏‏‎ ‎hush and while many of the Problems persisted it was pretty cute and i do think the girls' storylines were all well-written and fairly respectful though mileage may vary. i do kind of wish there was more to discover in future playthroughs other than just new endings because usually the fun of dating sims for me is discovering all new paths when pursuing each character but in this one you basically have to be doing all paths at once. i'm still gonna be doing a playthrough for each girl though. anyway under the cut is how much i think each girl's story was coded for sapphics

cassie: she seems to want the most traditionally masc love interest so for people who want to be femme4femme with her you're at a disadvantage but i can see her as the kind of gal who just wants a classic butch/femme relationship with someone to spoil her and act all chivalrous for her. also mel is a suuuper butch name to me so i imagine her as a butch if that means anything. she seems to have been the most significant figure in cassie's life in the past so maybe that did something for her. 5/10

mio: has the most references to liking women on her route, you can talk about dressing up as‏‏‎ ‎samus, and one of her lines on the beach implies you are both wearing bikinis (though likely unintentionally). however her stalker guy refers to you moving in on "another man's territory" at one point which was probably also unintentional but one of those annoying hetero freudian slips that seem to pop up in every dating sim ever made. 8/10 though

iro: i'm biased because i cannot imagine any version of‏‏‎ ‎rainbow‏‏‎ ‎dash‏‏‎ ‎or any character even partially inspired by her liking men but she explicitly mentions having an ex-girlfriend, she flirts with and calls other girls hot on multiple occasions, also doesn't feel weird about accidentally being topless in front of you on your first meeting (though that could also just be interpreted as her being confident in her body). i do feel like the way her dad acts around you is more coded for a guy though if she dated a girl previously he probably already knows she's into girls and maybe that changes things. though i know the real reason was it was probably written by a man :( 8/10

elle: her storyline archetype is suuuuper lesbian coded (i mean they Do do straight versions of it but they're always way more boring. if you're doing breaking tradition and rebelling against your stifling conservative family don't just make the love interest another conventionally attractive cishet white boy who's just A Little Edgy) but dorian feels misogynistic as hell so i feel like he'd treat a woman noticeably different from a man. elle gets bonus points though for having a‏‏‎ ‎crush‏‏‎ ‎crush‏‏‎ ‎line where she awkwardly asks if you like women "in the special way" which is usually not the sort of thing you ask a man you're already in the awkward flirty stage with. 7.5/10

quill: her route has the least references to gender of any kind so it's really hard to make any judgements here. her route makes me a little uncomfortable for Reasons but i would be hard pressed to call it gendered at all. in‏‏‎ ‎crush‏‏‎ ‎crush‏‏‎ ‎when you start officially dating her she says "we are the girlfriends! yay!" which is meant as just a silly line but feels a lot easier to get from point a to point b if there's no guy in the picture. 6/10

a song that reminds me of them: so, so many songs remind me of morpheus! "nine while nine" and "temple of love" by sisters of mercy always remind me of him

what they smell like: i have this headcanon that morpheus smells (and tastes) like whatever scent/taste the person perceiving his scent/taste was daydreaming of last. my take is that he probably doesn't bother smelling like anything for himself alone or when around his fellow endless siblings - and that retired!morpheus would have an entire adventure realizing he can now pick cologne, perfume, body care products, etc. for himself and he has no idea what how he would prefer to smell when asked to have his own opinion. (you know that scene in penny dreadful where dorian gray shows off his entire shelf of perfumes/colognes? i imagine it would be a bit like that, once he figures it out, haha)

an otp: dreamling! also dream and calliope but in a more bittersweet way?

a headcanon that is popular within the fandom but that i disagree with: hmmm. i'm not sure what to say for this one! when the show first came out a lot of folks were interpreting dream as cold/emotionless and i strongly disagreed with that but i haven't really seen that take since tom came out and talked about how dream is actually the most emotional being who just suppresses all his emotions to be able to perform his function. bless him for saying that <3

the position they sleep in: morpheus doesn't sleep. but retired morpheus is a fetal position/stomach sleeper who likes to be piled under a million blankets and gets cold easily especially in his extremities. (bonus dreamling opinion: retired morpheus loves to be little spoon but realizes he also really enjoys being big spoon after the first time he has to care for hob while hob is sick with a cold, and after that they switch off)

a crossover AU i'd like to see them in: hmm... i just thought of this, but if anyone has seen the hugh grant movie "mickey blue eyes" - i think an AU of that movie would be HILARIOUS, with hob being the unwitting fiancee marrying into the endless family

Dorian mentioned other friends he visits or writes letters to. Or at least I’m pretty sure he didn’t mention friend in the singular. Other than Aeron who are they?

2. Why do Aeron and Dorian get along so nicely, is it just a shared love of art and aesthetics (and shared attraction) or are there extra shared interests to bond over too?

As a bonus Aeron’s painting of Dorian’s library wings gave me the mental image of murals, like paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. And I saw what looked like a flaming sacred heart (?) on the back of Aeron’s cape. So it seems like it’s even very specifically Catholic aesthetics and religious imagery that they share interest in (though not the dogma).

3. Also Aeron’s theme of many eyes, driving people out of their minds with terrible awe and being all seeing put me in mind of a twisted biblically correct angel. Or being mutated by the favour of the malevolent deities in the Warhammer universe.

Is this a Lucifer/Adam sort of deal? Like… ‘you think you know better than God? Fall from grace, become omniscient and may it be a curse!’ Or were they another heretic/cursed while seeking forbidden knowledge?

Are they now malevolent deities that spread their brand of corruption to others via physical metaphors?

Did Eri getting his demon eyes from Aeron give him similar warped/amoral ’views’? Does his granted perception of the cuil through those eyes allow him to impose those incomprehensible metaphysical realities/perceptions on humans so strongly that it burns out their minds and senses?

(Between Aeron and Eri it seems I really like the trope of Go Mad With The Revelation. Whether they actually suffer/ed it themselves or not, the both of them do explicitly do it to humans.)

besides aeron, he's friendly with ambrose, some other circle members, and other misc story characters that i haven't found a good time to properly introduce yet.

it's shared love, period. for each other and the craft. aeron knew dorian for a brief period when dorian was human. aeron comes to visit sometimes and they'll sit and watch the ash storms while telling stories.

THE WARHAMMER MENTION IS MAKING ME GIGGLE!! it could be a twisted biblically accurate angel, but they're just. aeron's just like that.

i've really liked ptolemaea by ethel cain, and it's probably my number one song rn for aeron. there's a particular part of the ending monologue (from the preacher throughout the album, but this isn't important) that goes:

they and everything else simply are. one man's revelation of madness is another's success at catching prey, at sinking its teeth into something that will help them live another day. aeron was born from the need to deceive one another through sight. they were born with the ability to twist the vision into nightmares or harmless hallucinations. even if aeron themselves does not actively think to do this or that, it will happen.

sometimes people are more susceptible to being deceived through delusion from past experience, but it's usually random. and that's kind of what happened with the couple mentioned in the demo, and with iris. it sort of just happened. it can take any of us. and aeron knows that. that's why their attitude is...ditzy, in a way, during the demo.

they don't see it as a curse. it's bound to happen. it is a sign that their power is strong and their purpose is still necessary. but the others see it as such, so they have to play along. the parasight is only one of the stronger manifestations. there are other quirks. a switch of bodies with a corpse to witness how they died. seeing people or things you shouldn't. looking for something that you swore was there but never was. it can burn. it can make the viewer pull their eyes out in terror. it can make you vivisect yourself. it can make you do anything, and aeron will sit there and hold your cheek.

erebus witnessed something similar when he first got his eyes. it was only with aeron's "kindness" for the first few years that led erebus to where he is now, calmer while still feeling the tremors, keeping his first and only body alive.

I’m really hopeful that everyone’s side plots will come in handy, Aelin while lost seems to have something, Rowan’s calling all his cousins, Aedion is ready for war, we have Lysandra who’s a friggin dragon, and maybe Abraxos will show up with all the 13 and Petrah’s clan and I’m going with that because I refuse to accept any other answer. I am concerned there is going to be a betrayal of some sort, a revealing of info from long ago, and some possible faked deaths. I’m intrigued by repeating lines like the terms “endure”, “yield”, “live”, “hold the line”, or plots like “time” “ash” etc.

What the heck does Maeve want (worried about the way she gets revenge), definitely don’t trust the keys or the lock (though I’ve got faith in Manon & Aelin as a team + Dorian’s smarts), & don’t trust any of these plots. Or any of their self-sacrificial tendencies. Also I need everyone to admit there mates/soulmates already because it’s pretty dang clear *coughs* I’m looking at you Elorcan, Manorian, Lysaedion (ok I’ll give yall some credit for going slow), & ROWAELIN (my gods how have you not yet?). Still crying over Dorian’s line & simultaneously holding onto THE FEAR OF LOSS quote cause IT IS DESTROYING ME JUST AS MUCH so I can try to take Ardions advice and hope that’s enough torture for Maas to leave my bb’s be😂

Ok first of all i am SHAKING Aisling by the shoulders for having a default "i am a bother" mindset. Nice parallel to June tho cos part of the reason she will behave childishly/offensively is bc at least then she can say being branded The Problematic One is on purpose

But yeah regarding morality.. June won't go out of her way to be cruel (ok disclaimer she actually does sometimes, she can and will be super petty when she has a personal grudge), but she is very firmly in the chaotic neutral category; sure she'll help, but unless she is personally invested in some way she won't go out of her way to do it. Doing Good is definitely not on her priority list. If Aisling insisted that they have to go help she might roll her eyes at it but go along with her.

They're definitely on the same page when it comes to Viv though x'D June can't see eye to eye with her (she begrudgingly respects her, but does not agree with her at all) & a good chunk of that is her attitude towards Cole and Sera. And ngl she is.. kind of impartial to Solas after Trespasser hfjlsfd. She does not support his plan, but more in a "wtf this is really dumb and insane" way rather than a "this is morally reprehensible and i cannot support this" way. So idk, depending on how strongly Aisling feels about that, they might be good xD If not though, at least by that time June is much better at having Proper Productive Discussions.

Also re: boundaries: that's another thing that's difficult for her x'D Both at actually communicating them (again she gets better at it, but it's still a big WIP), and at noticing other peoples' boundaries, so Aisling will have to tell her very directly when she's overstepping or she'll probably not notice (tho once she's aware she does her best to pay better attention)

Bonus: they can repress emotions together! :D Between Aisling's "Don't worry about me, i'm fine! :)" and June's "I will violently avoid talking/thinking about things that upset me <3" i'm sure that will go great! :))

But yessss June would instantly fall in love with Aisling's horse omg. Dumbass has been bitten by dracolisks before, a biting horse ain't gonna scare her (and bonus points for freaking out Dorian hfdslfdj).

Ok, I'll go with some more headcanons about June because yes. Have Aisling, attach her koala style to every one of your blorbos, she's the free-hugs girl from every convention, she's loyal if you feed her.

I think Aisling would approach June very lightly and gradually, burning of curiosity about life in a Circle as a Mage. She could appear pushy, but she's just curious of learning more about how was it and particularly why some Mages would want to have them back as they were, because maybe she's missing something (and none of the argument Vivienne poses is remotely convincing to her). She'll be... Maybe pushy, will not hesitate in apologising if she's being indelicate or prodding but will ask questions. Very directly and without dancing around them when they'll be in more confidence, will ask for help with the theory she hadn't the chance to learn and offer her help in return how she can. Like, with the 1000 and 1 uses of Elfroot and how to forage in the wild because you know that Elfroot is just THE BEST THING EVER, just don't mix it with ivy because ivy is poisonous. 😌

Mmm gotta say how this works out would depend a lot on when this is happening hsfksdf, but imma say if they met anywhere in early or mid inquisition it would be a. Rough Start.

She's super distrustful of strangers in that time anyway, and the moment Aisling starts asking about the Circle? June's gonna go into immediate defensive mode and Alising's gonna get instant rivalry points hflsdjkdfl. Problem is, when a person who does not already count as friend (adjacent) makes a first bad impression they get sorted into the I Do Not Like You, Leave Me Alone category without hesitation, and no amount of trying to apologise or connect is gonna work in that stage (in fact it's probably going to make it worse). However if Aisling leaves her be for a bit after that June would eventually become curious about her as well, specially if she notices that they share interests her nerdy ass would not be able to not talk to her about those lmao

Once Aisling gets June Approved though she'd be much more open to Actually Talk and answer her questions. She's also super touchy with people once she's comfy with them, and they'd hype each other up real good with their passionate ramblings haha. Aisling can tell her all about Elfroot and then June's not gonna shut up about her dracolisk breeding plans or that funky new rune she and Dagna are working on. I don't think anything or anyone in Skyhold will have a quiet minute anymore once they get going

I do think they might clash when it comes to ideals and motivations though, cos June is. Not necessarily a moral person, and especially at the start of DAI she is, well, an ass x'D So def not always easy to get along with, especially for people who challenge her directly (ironic, since she prefers when people speak their mind) (she does get Better at it eventually but it takes quite some time)

LegacyTober Day 17: Future

So this is after defeating LoS. First paragraph is if you stayed in Astraea, second is if you and your partner went back to Earth. I'm gonna,, have to make some stuff up,,, for Anisa,,,, because obviously we never got to see what her timeskip was like and the effect it had on her and whatever. So. Damn you Fictif/Dorian.

In Astraea, Felix is trying to help put Blackthorn together. The crypt was totally decimated after that whole 'cultist soul possession' thing that happened. For a long while after the attack, everyone has avoided going near it. Initially it was to be sure that the last traces of LoS' magic had faded and wouldn't affect anyone else, but honestly? Everyone is still on edge about it. That includes Felix, but his anxiety leads to a need to understand. So he goes poking around in there and obviously brings you with (assuming you're comfortable with it - if you aren't then he'll go by himself). I would not put it past him to arrange for a picnic in the grass under the full moon. He'll tell you stories about the people that were in there (did the bodies ever get put back? I'm inclined to say they were probably destroyed, so all that's left is the plaques and coffins).

On Earth, Felix is still researching the paranormal! He loves going to 'haunted spots' to find ghosts. You tried to take him on a tour once and the guide started doing a whole 'hundreds of years ago in the Puritan times there was a woman accused of witchcraft who was hung here' blah blah blah, and then Felix goes 'The woman had an allergic reaction and died like eight years ago' and ends up taking over the tour,,, doing small bits of magic that could pass as impressive street magic,,, you guys end up getting kicked out. Sorry. He has fun though.

In Astraea, Anisa has taken it upon herself to completely reform the Sunstone knights (possibly changing their names? Idk) and make sure there's no corruption. In addition to the normal duties they perform, something she wanted to focus on was community outreach and getting in touch with the citizens. While she has overcome her insecurities about being LoS' daughter, she's still just a helpful person in general, so she's still going out of her way to help out. So when there's a Fall Harvest festival, Anisa helps organize and run some of the activities as well as just keeping the peace. She's also learned how to be kinder to herself, so she takes breaks as needed (or if you give her puppy dog eyes).

On Earth, Anisa is super excited! She discovers Starbucks and pumpkin spice latte. You can bring her fashion magazines and she'll put together her own outfits. Possibly makes some of her own? I think it's mentioned in the intro that she knows how to sew. Imagine,, going on a lake,,, like with those paddle boats? And the lake has red and gold leaves that have fallen onto the surface and it's super pretty and Anisa is so in love with you and with Earth. She's learning how to take a step back and breathe, y'know?

In Astraea, Sage has mixed feelings about fall. Even though Porrima has been rebuilt and pretty much every building is warded against Corrupted, he's still on edge. Especially when the night comes earlier and the shadows stretch longer. Plus you gotta add on seasonal depression. But the cooler nights means more cuddling by the fire (he always puts his head in your lap so you can brush his hair or stroke his ears) and wearing fluffy cloaks. Tulsi works shorter hours too, so they can hang out a little more. And he still enjoys warm apple cider, so there's a bonus! Ultimately, he'll be a little more comfortable during summer but he'll make it through fall. You can tell him silly over-the-top scare stories and it'll make him laugh.

On Earth, Sage has an easier time since. Y'know. No Corrupted. But then you introduce him to zombie movies and now he's afraid again. On the bright side. Sage in all black? Maybe even gothic clothes? He'd probably only wear it as you guys get closer to Halloween but I just want you all to be picturing that. Anyways for some reason I keep picturing him trying a cinnamon-flavored cake pop so there's that. Since it's colder out, he can hold your hand and walk around with you so that's a big bonus for him. Um. Um. Um. Also. Oktoberfest. I don't know if post-timeskip Sage would enjoy it as much (he'll come around eventually but he's anxious at first because if you've never been, Oktoberfest tends to get loud and crowded) but he'll get in the swing of things eventually.

He looked up.  “I - Vivienne, I can certainly say this is unexpected.”  The room swam a little bit as he put aside whatever dreck he’d been apparently staring at blankly.  “To what do I owe the pleasure?”

“Your health.”

He glanced around as he stood.  “Isn’t that normally said as a toast here?  Where’s the wine?”

The enchanter gave him a thin worried smile.  “Your relationship with The Iron Bull -”

“Kaffas, it’s none of your business!” he snapped.

“Darling, I’m not here about that, but if you wish to trade barbs, I will happily discuss all the times you’ve made it everyone’s business.”  She sniffed disdainfully.  “Everyone can hear you in the Herald’s Rest, and do you really think people wouldn’t talk about curtains with hand-shaped scorch marks?”  She pointed at the chair behind him.  “Now sit down before you fall over.”

Her tone was not one to be denied.  He sat down.  Maker, why was he so tired?  “I - what’s this about then?”

“You know what happened on the Storm coast.  With the dreadnought.”

Dorian rolled his eyes.  “Fasta vass, I was there.  What sort of question is that?”

“And you heard about the assassination attempt this morning?”

“Yes, he told me over lunch.  He’s already been taking the antidote and several others, so what’s the problem?”

Vivienne stepped close and put a hand to his forehead.  “But were you?”

“Why would I -” a wave of nausea and realization hit him like a dracolisk.  “Are you saying that, that I’ve been poisoned?”

Vivienne crouched in front of him.  “I’m saying that you’ve not been yourself the last two hours.  And yes, it was a poisoned blade, but it wet his vitaar on his chest, did it not?”

Dorian frowned.  “I wasn’t really paying attention to the vitaar.  More focusing on the ‘my lo - the man I’ve been sleeping with was just attacked’ bit.”  He shook his head.  “I think it upset me more than him.”

“Vitaar has nasty side effects for humans, you know.”  Vivienne shook her head.  “You ought to be more circumspect with where and how you touch him.”

He coughed.  “I thought that wasn’t your business.” 

“It’s not, I’m merely offering some friendly unsolicited advice.  On behalf of a very large man who would be devastated if he hurt you, however unintentionally.”

That wasn’t encouraging at all.  “So these side effects.”  He swallowed nervously.  “Are they in the realm of ‘Going to die’ or just ‘going to hallucinate and talk to a berry bush for a few hours’?”

She pursed her lips together in faint amusement.  “Probably the first one.   But I’m a very accomplished alchemist, so if there’s a way to make this right, I’ll find it.  Do you want to talk to a berry bush for a few hours?  I could probably manage that too.”

“Wouldn’t it be easier for you if I died?”  He tried to laugh.  Yes, that’s always a surefire way to get help.  Act like nothing matters.

“It would be petty and foolish to let my feelings for you impact the Inquisition.”  She stood back up and held a hand out.  “Or The Iron Bull.” 

He took her hand and let her help him up.  “I must look pretty bad if you’re being this nice to me.”  Oh yes, something definitely felt off.

“Nonsense, you look as dashing as ever.”

“I imagine you say that to all the Tevinter mages you meet.”  He leaned against her. “How do you know so much about poison anyway?”

“I’ve played the Game a very long time, Dorian.  Poison is its own Orlesian sport.”  She patted his cheek.  “The more exotic the death, the more interesting the scandal.”

That was . . . not something Dorian had considered.  “Perhaps Orlais and the Imperium aren’t as different as they seem.”

“Perhaps not.”

COMPLETED

1) Gourmet Hound (166 chapters)

this is like, my all time favorite webtoon. it follows Lucy and her quest to find all the chefs that left her favorite restaurant, Dimanche! it’s a really heartfelt story and the food illustrations make you really hungry, so make sure you have a snack before you sit down to read it. each character’s name is also food-related, so that’s pretty cool too! and the diversity in this webtoon is AMAZING. it’s the only webtoon i’ve ever read that has a hijabi character in the main cast. the development is done really well and it explores themes of loving and letting go. all in all, it has a bit of everything. i personally love food-related things, and this centers around it, so i was set LOL

(also a bonus is that this webtoon has NOT succumbed to daily pass hell, so you can binge read the whole thing. legally.)

2) Hooky (200 chapters)

if you like stories of witches, this is the one! the summary and beginning chapters are deceptively lighthearted. DO NOT BE FOOLED! the story really develops further on and explores numerous conflicts, a big one being (if i remember correctly) witch vs. nonwitch. if you like to see struggles between two sides, not a good-and-evil but just people-who-want-the-best-for-themselves-and-their-loved-ones type of thing, this is good for that. also, sibling love! the two main characters are Dani and Dorian, and while there is someee romance, i like how this story centers around the siblings first and foremost. ALSO THE ART??? I LOVE HOW THE AUTHOR DRAWS SETTINGS SO MUCH and am unabashedly jealous because i am completely incapable of doing so   just like,,,, even if the story doesn’t pull you in, you can at least stare at each panel for long stretches of time.

(unfortunately succumbed to daily pass, but you can read it on mangaowl or manganelo!)

3) Spirit Fingers (167 chapters)

aww, this one is cute. Amy is 18 and lacking in self confidence (her family definitely doesn’t help). but HEY she joins a wacky art club!! without her parents knowing!! HECK YEAH!! unfortunately it takes more than joining an art club for her to learn to love herself (it is a long journey after all!). i love this webtoon because it explores the problems of multiple people, not just amy: her high achieving brothers, her mother who had to give up her dream, the different members in the art club, Amy’s girl friends. the art is unique and has a cool watercolor-y texture! and the main couple is just adorable, too. if you’re an artist especially, i recommend this because that’s a big theme and you get to see these characters expand their art styles! which is very cool!

1) The Makeup Remover (currently 71 chapters)

i look forward to this every tuesday and friday because oh man!!!!!!!!! idk about you guys, but i am thinking about beauty standards A Large Amount of the time, especially when i consume media. and this webtoon is all about beauty standards (specifically in Korea, but still applicable like. everywhere). Main character Yeseul ends up having to partake in this beauty competition and, with her experiences through it, she begins seeing makeup and beauty standards for the huge role they play in society. i said it already but i LOVE LOVE LOVE this webtoon because it really challenges you as a reader to think about your own perspectives. why do we find the things/people beautiful that we do? what shapes our perception? how much of it is marketing, and how much of it shows in our daily lives? what assumptions do you make about people based on how they look? AGHH im sounding like an essay prompt instead of a reviewer but man. if you like webtoons that examine society through a critical lens (gosh i sound like an english teacher), this is the one. 

2) Odd Girl out (currently 261 chapters; on season 2) 

okay, first and foremost: if you’re NOT into long winded drama, this probably isn’t it for you. i will admit im not a fan of long problems that get dragged out, especially in a school setting, but i did keep reading this webtoon and i am glad that i did! the character development here is amazing and ONE CRUCIAL THING is that the whole first season (which is many, many chapters. at least over 100) focuses on the friendship between our main 4 girls. if you don’t wanna wait for a romance storyline (which comes in season 2), then you’ve gotta have the patience of a saint. i loved this though because lots of romance webtoons cast friendships aside or use them to further the romantic plot. platonic relationships are great to read about and this one does it masterfully! main character nari is resilient and emotionally strong, and it’s great to see her ruin her enemies

3) Cursed Princess Club (currently 110 chapters; on break before the final season)

this is another one about beauty and societal expectations, but in a fantasy setting! it’s really funny and the cast of characters is heartwarming. Gwen is a princess, but she doesn’t look like the typical princess. she accidentally stumbles upon the Cursed Princess Club, which is exactly what it sounds like: a club for princesses that have been cursed and are trying to find their self worth despite not being conventional princesses! now that i think about it, this is like a lighthearted mixture of Makeup Remover and Spirit Fingers. although while i do say “lighthearted”, this webtoon has its fair share of mysteries and exploration of deeper topics. but its funny throughout

4) Brass & Sass (currently 83 chapters)

ahh this one is really cute and the art is cute, too! i also like how this has a diverse cast. high schooler Camilla kinda sucks at band, but dangit if she’s not passionate. Victor is some type of musical prodigy but he’s a brass-hole (hahaha get it. no that’s not original i ripped it from the summary). now i KNOW I KNOW, the whole “perky girl and asshole guy” is so overplayed BUT DON’T FRET! this isn’t the type of story where the girl “fixes” the guy, or where the guy is an asshole to everyone except the girl. believe me, the character development and relationship development in this story is SPLENDID. there’s no real antagonist. it’s just a bunch of high schoolers trying their best to make themselves and everyone else happy, and that’s hard! the story is carried more by the characters than by the plot, but it works well in this case since the characters are strong and each one has a presence. 

5) Surviving Romance (currently 10 chapters)

this one is relatively new compared to my other recs but it’s by the author of the Makeup Remover so yaknow i had to hop on it. BUT IT IS VERY DIFFERENT! first off, it’s a horror, so keep that in mind. the best way i can describe it is a mixture of the standard “girl falls into a story” genre, Groundhog Day, and zombies. Yeah. Bascially, Chaerin is our main girl and she’s in a romance story that’s she’s read a bajillion times, so she knows the day has come for her male lead to confess his love! except he doesn’t! because he becomes a zombie instead! hahaha well that sucks! it’s only got 10 chapters but i am very into it, and it seems to be taking an emphasis on platonic relationships, so i am very closely watching 👁👁

6) The Witch and the Bull (currently 60 chapters) 

another witch story! and the art is GORGEOUS. more witch + nonwitch conflict, too! our main dude, Tan, is the royal advisor and he’s hella bigoted against witches. our main girl, Aro, happens to be a witch. and Tan needs her help to make him into a human again (because he got turned into a bull. that is worth mentioning). this is a very barebones summary and there’s a lot more that goes on, but that’s the general gist of the beginning!

ANYWAYS. this got very long, predictably, and i rambled for each title, predictably. i’ve got more that i’m reading, but i really like these 9! i also made comments on the art for a lot of them, which might not matter to some people, but i feel like my art was very impacted by each webtoon i read. if you’re an artist i recommend finding a webtoon you like and studying the art; try implementing parts you like into your own style!

Puffing out their chest in pride if the Bell’s praise them, and Chetney’s toys are much appreciated as bribes (mostly because this kid didn’t have many toys so they love them all)

Dragon Age is (currently) a three game series composed of Dragon Age: Origins (PS3, Xbox 360/Xbox One, PC), Dragon Age: II (PS3, Xbox 360/Xbox One, PC), and Dragon Age: Inquisition (PS4, Xbox One, PC) and its really unique because of its selling point that your actions impact the games as you progress. Like if you kill one character in one game they’ll stay dead through the rest of the series which makes you feel lived in the story and that your actions matter. Dragon Age is also an RPG so a roleplaying game kind of along the same lines of DnD where you get to make and play your own character. And yes there are romances and you can be gay.

The First Game of the series is Dragon Age: Origins where you choose from a selection of six unique (technically seven) origins or backgrounds for your character. You can be anywhere from a human noble or a Dalish elf, the unique elven culture in Dragon Age of nomadic clans dedicating to reclaiming their past. But eventually, from the events in your origin, you wind up a member of a secretive and elite order known as the Grey Wardens whose duty is to protect the world from the Blight.

The Blight is this spread of a horrible disease known as the Taint but is characterized by the presence of Darkspawn, a kind of zombie like creature who exists only to destroy the world. Grey Wardens take the heavy duty of protecting the world from the Blight, which have nearly wiped all of humanity multiple times, at all costs. And currently the country of Ferelden is under going a blight and due to events you wind up the only Grey Warden with your companion Alistair to save the world and reunite Ferelden which had fallen under a civil war.

Along Origins you meet many interesting characters. Alistair is your friendly co-warden who has a mysterious parentage that he hides under his happy go lucky attitude. In contrast to Alistair is the witch Morrigan who is your favorite goth swamp queen who would insult you and you thank her. In addition you meet your chaotic bi rogues Zevran and Leliana. Leliana is a nun who is on the run and hiding from a dark past and she is suspiciously good at murder. And Zevran is not at all hiding his aptitude for murder as an Assassin for hire who tried and failed to kill you but who can ignore that charming bastard?

Dragon Age II follows a much smaller story of a Ferelden refuge who had escaped from the Blight to the city of Kirkwall named Hawke. Unlike in origins where you get to pick your background 2 limits you to Hawke but fear not, Hawke is a loveable bastard and you can still customize them. Throughout DA2 you get to experience all the delights Kirkwall has to offer: Demons, crime, corrupt cops, and fighting your way to survive in this city and make a name for yourself.

Where Origins sets the stage for the world DA2 you are the actor in that play - literally the game is divided into 3 acts that take place over a span of 7 years. DA2′s main conflict is the argument of Mages vs Templars, as in DA’s lore while there are those who are born with magic they are forced to live in prisons policed by the Templar order and the church. You explore the more political arguments of; are the Templars right in their fears of magic as Kirkwall is filled to the brim with corrupt mages or do Mages deserve the chance to live and prove themselves freely from their prisons.

Your romancable companions in DA2 are all bisexuals as the true theme of DA2 is: be gay do crime. You have the foils of Anders: the runaway mage who fled from the prisons the mages are housed in and is determined to bring mages to freedom, and Fenris: the runaway escaped slave who curses magic for only inflicting pain and suffering in his life and wants his warnings to be heard about the dangers magic bring. In addition you also have Merrill, your cute but terrifying Dalish mage who would probably murder you with a cute smile and then go oops. And of course, my pirate wife Isabela, who lives a life free from commitment and is dedicated to the idea everyone should have a good time no matter the cost. Also while not romancable Hawke’s bff Varric deserves every ounce of praise he gets as never before has the energy of “two idiots sharing a braincell” ever been so well adapted.

Then finally we reach Inquisition. After the events of DA2 it triggers a full on war between the Mages and Templars that is destroying the land and causing severe damage that neither side can handle anymore. Desperate for an end to the conflict the Divine (err... fantasy pope) calls for a meeting on both sides... only for the entire thing to literally explode. Killing everyone present and causing a hole in the sky which now means demons are raining like cats and dogs you are the only one to survive. In Inquisition you can once again return to pick between unique backgrounds like in Origins but you don’t get to play through those backgrounds sadly.

You now possess something on your left hand which gives you the ability to patch up the hole in the sky that is pissing demons and due to being the only survivor everyone is incredibly confused about you. Eventually the Inquisition is formed around you, the character they are calling the Herald of Andraste (Andraste is fantasy Jesus) due to your ability to seal the holes. The mystery unfolds as over the course of the game you learn what caused the explosion, how you are connected, and what exactly the mark on your hand is.

DAI has the largest numbers of romance options so I’m gonna give a quick bullet point list for them all

Iron Bull (Pansexual, All Races): A Qunari (think Tiefling but big and beefy) mercenary who is far more clever than he lets on, as well as being the rope top dom of your dreams. Literally! Bull’s romance is a really healthy bdsm relationship if you are interested its very well done

Josephine (Bisexual, All Races): Your loveable ambassador and advisor for the inquisition. She is a workaholic noble who is a tried and true classic romance. Sweep her off her feet and duel for her hand all while navigating the nobility

Dorian (Gay, All Races): The flamboyant pariah rock star mage, he demands attention whenever he walks into the room. Although he wants to be all talk and no emotions make no mistake he is making puppy eyes at you the entire time and gets deeply offended if you say he is. Also not going to lie Dorian is the best piece of gay male rep in gaming history.

Cassandra (Male-only, all Races): Your stern warrior wife who is all serious no funny business... expect she is a bleeding heart romantic who reads horrible smut for fun. You wish to COURT HER?? I mean... if you want 👉👈 she won’t say no...

Blackwall (Female-only, All Races): Your weird dilf who wants desperately to prove himself every step of the way and help people. He is a constable for the Grey Wardens, but all the details on him seem murky... Ah well I’m sure its nothing, the Grey Wardens are a secretive order after all.

Sera (Lesbian, All Races): My wild child, monster chugging, beer guzzling, arrow shooting lesbian. Sera is here for a fun time and not a serious one, she’ll always make sure to keep you humble and ensure you aren’t getting to big for your breeches. 

Cullen (Female-Only, Human and Elf only): Cullen’s the Inquisition’s commander who oohh boy is steeped in a lot of trauma. Cullen’s actually a character you get to know through out the series and see just all the horrible nonsense he’s been through. But he is your tragic self loathing... he isn’t princely but he is your adorkable charming

Solas (Female-Only, Elf Only): The humble apostate who joins the Inquisition out of curiosity of the breech, he is an expert on what the hell is going on with that hole in the sky. However, he holds a wisdom that goes far deeper than your typical apostate. Smooth talking and refined he carries a heavy cloud over him.

I left out a lot and all the nonsense with books and what have you but this is the easiest overview of the series I can offer. It’s main selling points is the deep story and characters throughout the games. And of course who doesn’t love the ability to make and roleplay your own character as a bonus? The games are bit of a flawed gem and Origins in my ugly child but they are truly a delight if you are interested

I don't think any of them has an angsty ending. I am all for angst but with a happy ending and that's how I write my fics.

Hmm, they all have a happy ending but probably Four Weddings? Maybe a fic that is still in the works, but that one is a little bit more bittersweet.

I did. Not anymore though. The craziest one would probably be one I wrote for just myself when I was like 13. It was Sherlock x Shadowhunters (the book, not the show). I am super embarrassed just thinking about it but I gotta say, the OCs for it were awesome.

To write? Pavellan. Dorian is such a fun character to write and I love his dynamic with my Lys Lavellan. And I just really like the juxtaposition of Dorian, aristocrat from Tevinter and a Dalish elf, there's so many interesting things to explore in their relationship

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Ahhh, probably the one about Lys' roots. Lys was not born into clan Lavellan and I really want to write out how he got there and all the interesting things he learns during Inquisition but I just... Can't. I have a few different parts of the fic written out but I don't know how to tie them all together, how to introduce the new characters to not make everything immediately obvious and also just if anyone would be interested in reading this😅

Dialogue, internal monologue, emotions, dynamics between the characters. So all the static stuff haha

Setting the scene, background. It always seems stiff

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I have done that so I think it's great. Bonus points if there's a translation in the notes or the language is named so we can pop the phrase into the translator

I think it was HP many many years ago

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Probably Four Weddings. The idea for it hit me like a brick and then I wrote 30 000 words in less than a month. I loved writing the fic, it was so much fun, planning the weddings, the twists, especially Sera and Dagna's wedding. It is also the rom com I want to see, so I keep re-reading it and I think it's great. Also, Bethany and Dorian being BFFs? Definitely one of my brighter ideas.

I’ve been reading almost everyday since April 16th thanks to the stay at home order. Not that I’m complaining but I feeling like it’s time to return to work if only for my activity level! its become a struggle to remove myself enough to go for a walk or run. Anyways onto the books.

Left to right:

1) I ordered this book when I was in the middle of the Throne of Glass series as a nice book to break up the series (can’t read series books back to back I get bored that way) but also to fulfill the Sarah J. Maas craving I was having without having to invest in a series. I don’t know was expecting with this book but for me it made me realize I’m not that into superhero books... don’t get me wrong it was a good book and I think I gave it 3 stars?? It just didn’t resonate with me. I didn’t much enjoy the characters and I had a hard time believing catwoman was this super badass didn’t lose one fight to anyone type of character that had assassin training. I preferred the early chapters when she was just a kid trying to make a living by fighting I think following that would have been a bit more interesting. Ok Just checked rated it 4 stars... This is why I do these “reviews” cause sometimes I don’t know how I feel about a book till I sit down and start blabbing about it. So yes a 3 star book for me.

2) Ok I have a serious addiction apparently. After reading the Throne of Glass books I wasn’t done with Sarah J. Maas’ writing style yet so with me having a week of uninterrupted home time left and having a serious book hangover I decided to re-read the ACOTAR series again.. probably just the first two because I like the build up to Rhys and Feyra’s relationship. Needless to say other then having to spend the majority of this book with Tamlin I love this book or more specifically the under the mountain trails. Going into the book for the first time last year I wasn’t expecting the trails and being a huge fan of competitions, trails, etc. I was enthralled. Love this book and love the second book even more. Oh and I promise I will be branching out from Sarah J. Maas soon considering I’ve had all her books read and just waiting for breath and sky now.

3) Another re-read/slowly trying to read every book on my bookshelf after a reading slump of 3 years. As I’ve been saying to my friends. I’m weeding out the weak deciding what to keep and what to give away. Anyways, absolutely love this book. Say what you will about Nicholas Sparks but he knows how to tug at the heart strings. When I first read this book I was in highschool and getting through those last 100 pages is tough is a terribly sad type of way. I remember I had to give my dad a hug when he got home after sobbing on the couch for hours. This book broke and I went in knowing this and I spent my entire night crying, let my dad know I loved him, and woke up with sore and puffy eyes so bad that I couldn’t read at all the next day. Regardless of how much I love this book I’m keeping it for the sake of the memories I have with it and as a reminder to let my parents know I love them unconditionally and never stay mad.

4) If you remember I picked this book up on one of my thrifting trips with my friend. Funny story I accidentally bought two copies thinking they were different stories. I have a obsession with Paris (even though I haven’t gone.. just waiting for covid to end so I can get out there) which was the main reason for this purchase and I’m glad I got it. I read this immediately after Kingdom of Ash because I needed something quick and what better then a book of short stories some involving Paris? I loved the majority of the stories in this book and will definitely be re reading a few someday. I tried reading this author other book me Before You when I was really young but being so young I don’t think I appreciated it as much as I should have. After picking up this book and being reacquainted with this authors writing style I think I’ll be trying some of her other books and probably dusting off my old copy of Me Before You.

5) I’ve been having an tough time with thrillers recently where I’ve read a lot that just didn’t sit well with me. This one reminded me why I like thrillers so much. I found this one fast paced and didn’t have to sit through chapter after chapter of the characters drinking while she took her medication. Sometimes I find with thrillers we are always given these characters that are so dependent on there vices which are used against them to make them seem crazy rather then something actually happening which drags on and sometimes used as a crutch in writing do you get what I’m saying? Even though this book did have a bit of this happening it wasn’t used nearly as much as other books and like I said very fast pace. It was neat how there wasn’t a grand reveal but the main character just worked it out on her own. I was happy with the ending as well and thought it ended the book well. All and all I liked this book a lot.

6) Was hoping I could write about book 6, 7, and 8 altogether like last time but I have very different feelings about each book so here we go. I love this book probably just as much as Heir of Fire and Queen of Shadows. I really loved getting to see all the characters interact like Manon joining up with the crew. The skull bay fight with Lysandra was definitely one of my all time favourite scenes and having Dorian slowly master his powers was fun to read as well. My favourite part of this book was definitely Lorcan and Elide parts. Elide was a character that I could give or take when I first met her but she’s slowly become my favourite character and I loved everyone of her chapters as well as the slow building romance with Lorcan. And if you know me you know I have a great hatred for Chaol so this book got a added bonus for not having a single chapter from his perspective!

7) This was a struggle. I looked up if I could just skip this book but unfortunately it had major plot points you couldn’t miss. I was dreading this book. I read a lot of reviews about how people hated Chaol but still really found this book likeable so I went in hoping that would be my experience too. It wasn’t. I actually ended up buying the audiobook because I really couldn’t picture myself sitting and reading this book... it’s not that I hated it I just don’t like chaol and besides Yrene and Borte didn’t really care for any of the characters in this book. I’m glad I listened to it because I definitely needed this story to continue and I really did try not to hate Chaol so much but I just can’t stand him.

8) Ok. The final Throne of Glass book. I gave it 4 stars. The middle three books are my favourite and I will re read over and over this one I don’t see myself going back to it. I have it four starts because I’ve followed these characters through a eight book series and a month of my time. I’ve fallen in love with these characters and there stories, I will always love these character, and of course Elide and Lorcan! Now here’s why I didn’t like this book as much nor think I’ll read it again (other then Lorcan and Elide story.) throughout this book I felt like Rowan became a background character like I’m all for a strong female lead and her doing shit her own way but Rowan was suppose to be her equal and I just felt like he did nothing. Like the final fight he spent the majority of it chasing Aelin? I get it she didn’t have her full powers but she was handling her own couldn’t you do the same? It just didn’t sit right with me that this character that was introduced to us in Heir of Fire that trained Aelin and is her equal was just kind of brushed aside and became this clingy male that spent the majority of the book following Aelin around not doing anything other the pleading her not to leave him. Like what happened to the badass Rowan that I grew to love...? Also was really angered me Aelin losing her powers? What’s up with that?! It just felt so cheap to me.. after again reading about how strong she is and then forging the lock which did nothing by the way what was the point of that anyways, and then she just loses all her power only having a ember left??? I hate when authors do this.. I also felt the scene with Erawan, Maeve, and Aelin was just dull. I was still upset that Aelin wouldn’t get to use her powers against them and in the end it was more of a match of words then a battle just felt a little cheap to me. I was just disappointing , Aelin a character we have come to love and watch grow and get stronger hardly hold her own against Maeve... This book has a all around different feel to it compared to the other books and maybe it’s because it was the final battle and and the final book to the series I was a bit disappointed with it but I did enjoy it and felt a huge accomplishment when I finished the series. Reading that finally few chapters really put me into a hangover knowing it was over and like Aelin felt when everyone was heading home I felt that too. It’s goodbye for now.
