Once again, i have fallen in love with a manhwa that is painfully underrated (future me here: thats an understatement. im obsessed. go read it rn). This recommendation has been in my drafts for a while, but i just read ch 49 and want to share my anguish.

Goddammit. I am still crying and its been multiple hours. This manhwa has changed my brain chemistry, and I mean that very literally.

I know the author of SB said actor Minho and actor Haesol actually are very close. But didn't expect the artist might have felt the same.

age gap <- in the present day of the manhwa, both leads are adults, but they initially met when one was a child and the other an adult. the impact is diluted with the adult in question being a very immature supernatural being, but she does develop romantic feelings when her partner is a child. there is no romantic or sexual contact between them at this time, but it may make some uncomfortable.

violence <- bloody violence, but not super gorey. shown blunt force trauma & strangulation. you don't often see it, but do sometimes see bodies after the fact. noose imagery shown a few times, you see the noose but no graphic details of the body.

death <- multiple background characters die, as well as a few significant side characters.

cannibalism <- man-eating mermaid eats people. more discussed than shown, and you dont actually see her chowing down in detail.

body horror? <- or just horror elements. some fucked up mermaid designs.

sexual harassment <- ch1, men try to pressure a woman into staying and having a drink with them. ch4, man propositions two lesbians to sleep with him.

suicide <- a murder is passed off as a suicide. multiple characters express suicidal ideation that they don't act on.

survivor's guilt

drowning <- recurring imagery and many such cases. fatal drownings are primarily backstory elements that you only see snapshots of, and it only highlights the sensation of it in ch24

lesbophobia <- period-typical expectations for women, and both internalised and externalised backlash for non-conformity. homosexuality openly called disgusting. side couple are regularly homophobically harassed, inluding multiple instances of men trying to "fix" them by propositioning sex. a gay woman is put to death for killing in the name of love, and in ch16, two gay women are killed for being gay.

other misogyny <- general shittyness from minor male characters ie just seeing women as lesser or in one case blaming female workers for a decrease in productivity.

animal death <- pet bird killed on screen ch2.

underage (?) sex work <- mentioned that a side character has been a play thing for men since she was young; unclear if she was an adult at that point. clearly the cause of some trauma, but not given much focus.

sexual violence <- ch20, a group of men grab a young girl and talk about selling her. they are interrupted. same chapter, text is blocked out but the same men are implied to threaten sexual violence to women.

infidelity <- mentioned that one of the leads was cheated on by a past partner, and a side character finds out about her husband having an affair.

I still adore the Horuseth hand-holding in S2E113 of ENNEAD by Mojito, but also new love for this panel of Seth smiling softly because of how cute Horus is being

He's so in love and amazed Horus loves him. So happy for him.

Also Horus wanting to bite Seth because Seth is so cute just ends me. Precious beans.

I honestly also love the idea that potentially both Horus and Seth are demisexual (not just demigods). I don't know if that's what Mojito is intending with Hathor's "he's not into men" comment, but it wouldn't surprise me, given Horus is certainly demonstrably Seth-sexual and has been ever since he got to spend time with him. And I still think Seth feels very demi. Ace couples for the win.

Same. We don't know whether his mom is dead or divorced his dad. I really wish the author gave us a background.

I want to know more about his childhood, his highschool years, and him doing part-time jobs. His love for Camus (a philosopher and a writer).

I wish the author would do a second season for this. There's clearly demand for it.

The side story actually is very popular and even won bomtoon awards for best couple (between Minho and wookyung 😵‍💫, still at least it was popular). It still gets mentioned despite being finished two years ago. I mean people are still reading this and talking about it.

They also sold a lot of merch. A particular Minho merch was very popular and sold out quickly, they restocked it and it got sold out within five minutes.

I'm not sure if this is what it's meant to be, but there are actually two solar barques in Egyptian mythology. During the day, Ra would use the Mandjet, and during the night he would use the Mesektet. So the giant moon boat might be the Mesektet, or something entirely different, who knows?

The new goddess(?) could be Seshat, who's variably considered to be Thoth's wife, his daughter (sometimes with Maat), or a female aspect of him, often with similar duties (and she also took the form of a baboon, like Thoth). Given previous art from S2E102 featuring a female ibis god across from a male ibis god below an ibis god of unknown gender, coupled with previous episode info about gods gaining gender, a lot is possible.

Perhaps they started as one ibis god and split into two. She also might just be one of Thoth's other kids. It's not the first time we thought Seshat showed up in the story, given that was briefly the assumed identity of Hathor's servant, but Mojito stated that wasn't her, it was just a random dead human in Nefertum's garden. This one is at least more directly connected to Thoth and looks just like a genderbent Thoth, so her being related to him in some manner is pretty likely at least lol

Also, that preview lineless art of Horus didn't show up this episode, so it might be from S2E120 or a future episode of some kind. I guess we'll have to see!

Reading this on Bomtoon TW and it’s uncensored, there’s 10 chapters so far. Even though MJ is mentally unstable, he seems to have great respect for Dowan and under Dowan’s careful instructions, he is able to control some of his urges when he is with him. Loving the suspense so far!
