I’m reading super ball girls and isn’t this a reference to Nagi?
“Something like a younger sister but 190cm tall with double pigtails”
Basically cute and smol energy yet is tall af in reality. That’s Nagi!!
And the dude saying it is almost playing Reo’s role talking about looking for potential and good talent in others. There’s also another character with traits similar to Reo but evil. He has the whole “i was born blessed with everything and life is boring” trope, and there’s even NTR theme lol. Tho this time he’s the one cucking the MC.
I’ve been reading several of knsr’s works and I notice he’s always writing about the same themes over and over again but in different settings and context. I’ve said before he has “formulas” for making character duo dynamics, but it seems it’s the same for themes and character personalities too? “Change” is a big theme for him, and in his darker work like bokutachi ga yarimashita (I really liked this one), the point was no matter how much you try you can never change nor escape your inner nature. It’s a really dark series, and probably why I like it so much. He should do more of these psychological works rather than… whatever super ball girls is…
Reading his works also make me think he’s a very “formulaic” person which makes sense considering he started off as a “death game” or “battle royale” writer and those require a lot of logical rules. It’s even more obvious in Blue Lock with him breaking down soccer into abstract concepts and playing around with and rebuilding the pieces. Since he’s always revolving around the same themes and rules, it makes me feel like im getting a view of the kinda person he really is lol. He’s also very “imaginative” and he likes writing his characters imagining absurd scenarios, it’s kinda like a peek of what goes on in his brain. Which might also possibly explain Blue Lock’s additional time which might as well be called “Nagi’s imagination”? lmao. Really makes the rumours (im not sure if it’s even a rumour or if it’s confirmed) that knsr and nmr are involved in the additional times
Speaking of his battle royale works… I couldn’t finish as the god wills 2… It’s too long and boring and honestly I find the majority of it trash. The plot, the characters, the art… But I’ll persevere on just cuz i need to finish anything i started 😭 I do find the games he come up with interesting since they took a lot of inspiration from folk lore? Also interesting how much he took from the “soccer” theme he wrote in this and adapted it to Blue Lock.
While that one was bad, i think he really outdone himself in Bokutachi ga yarimashita! It’s a really ugly and grotesque series. You get that feel right from the start with the art style and close up on exaggerated facial expressions drawn in an obscene way. Think it’s intentional to show us the ugly side of human nature. Overall atmosphere of the manga was really dark too, like literally, the scenes are drawn so dark even during the happy moments such as them singing karaoke. The setting was really immersive because of that, plus i went to listen to the karaoke songs sung and it’s mostly 90s? japanese music which adds even more to the vibe. I wanted the series to keep going just cuz i really like the setting, but it ended at the right place I feel. The ending’s twist tied everything up nicely too since it addressed something that was just hinted at the start and never touched upon, but it was important enough to make up our view of the MC’s character.
It’s also funny to see how karaoke, bowling, and arcade is his template for his characters hanging out lol, since it’s in this and Blue Lock. Also the exaggerated facial expressions remind me of an answer he gave for an interview? where he talked about the highlight of some Blue Lock exhibition (and the manga) are the dramatic facial expressions of characters like Reo and Barou. Seems like it’s really a knsr “thing” that he likes showing (certain types of) his characters making such extremely distraught expressions. I don’t think he does this for characters he favour honestly.
This series (plus super ball girls) makes me think knsr is someone who “protects” the characters he like most which makes me, a Nagi fan, happy lol. By “protect” i meant while he’ll write them being distraught and going through all kinds of experiences, he wouldn’t show them in an “ugly” or “emotionally obscene” light, and he won’t hold back on seeming bias and being apparent with who he favours too. He goes all out for them and it shows. Like in super ball girls, even tho Eliza is the main love interest and THE girl, he writes Ouka with exceptional care by giving her more dimension and focus. It’s reflected in the art too which I know he plays a heavy role in directing how to draw each panel etc. When they’re all together, there’s a heavier focus on showing off her character with the dialogue, and her interactions etc too
Honestly reading about Ouka reminds me of Nagi, cuz he’s treated in a similar manner. They even have similar hairstyles, and she’s the character that takes the “alternative route” compared to the other girls like how Nagi’s the one taking the “alternative route” in Blue Lock. Again, he’s reusing similar themes lol. But personality wise, while i can see a lot of similarities between them (she even started off wearing a “nyan of the dead” shirt just like Nagi’s “nagi of the dead”), it’s not exactly comparable either since i can see traits of Nagi in other characters too. I really think knsr likes breaking things down into pieces and inserting bits of them here and there, which is so app again considering the jigsaw pieces theme in Blue Lock, and how knsr’s avatar itself also has his brain disintegrating into puzzles lol.
Idk, it feels like every time i read his works i end up trying to hyperanalyse him instead lmao

Finished Bokutachi ga Yarimashita, 8/10, this one took me a long time to read so my thoughts aren’t as succinct as they’d usually be. I know I decided on 8/10 but that was a hard score to pick, this manga has both extremes of quality, it has some of the best stuff I’ve ever read, while also it has some parts that are just painfully bad. I would say the protagonist is brilliant, but he just isn’t, he’s about as normal as it gets and he resents that and a lot of the story has to do with him learning how to live and become an adult. His “Friends” if you can call them that are far from great and are bad influences on him just as he is to them, it’s kinda like they’re in a very complicated toxic relationship. But with all of the great parts this story has it has some really bad ones, a lot of the sex, while important to the story and themes, is just horribly done and a decent bit of it is unnecessary. But even through all of its problems I can still see the potential it had to be great, and with all of that in mind Ive decided to give it an 8/10, part of that is it being hard carried by its final act.

Since you liked Monster, another good raw feeling and suspence manga is Bokutachi ga Yarimashita. Very close to Crime and Punishment but with a different focus than the fear of inevitable Judgement.
might check it out! thx!

honestly bokutachi ga yarimashita and oldboy are the ones i would consider a solid short read but only if you try to not spend much time reading them and pretend they're 40 chapters long
fuuuucking tedious
the story was mid but not terrible, depends on tastes. the ending is where is at. overall alright just dont spend too much time on it.
yes the premise sounds crazy it's more serious than you may think but also fuck that ending -_-. not that it was technically dissonant but i'll see you in hell. disappointing.
