PLEASE BOJACK HORSEMAN
Bojack Horseman
Tumblr media
Rating: ƱƱƱ (mixed emotion)
As delighted as I am by the concept of the Horse Man I must confess that between his tiny human hands and most unhorselike behaviour I think that Bojack is too much Man and not enough Horse.

So I just started watching BoJack horseman and so far I'm on episode 4 and I just want to say I knew Bojack wasn't a nice person but I did not know that he was not a good person. oh my God. He's straight up sabotaged Todd. orchestrated a whole plan to make sure his plans never amount to anything and that he'll always live in his house as a freeloader. all that because Bojack is so scared of being alone.
I knew he was bad but it didn't know he was THIS bad.
another character who's really standing out for me and who I can't quite clock is Mr peanut butter. there's something very off about him but I cannot put my finger on it. I see how he tries to copy Bojack and it's not even in subtle ways it's super out there. from having a show similar to his, getting someone to write a BuzzFeed article about him because he saw Bojack was writing a memoir....idk something feels off about him.
And the thing that puzzles me is why do they tolerate each other or at the very least why does Bojack tolerate Mr peanut butter when he knows that he's trying to be him. another thing about Mr peanut butter that I can't quite place is that he gives me the vibe of a nice guy who hasn't done anything wrong but still triggers your warning bells.
I'm on ep 4 so far, let's see how season 1 will pan out

5x10 Bojack (horseman, obviously)
When most people look back on season 5 they think of the penultimate episode.(5x11). But Episode 11 acts a part 2 two for episode 10. As Schaffrillas retrospective shows us the penultimates are always a severing of a relationship for Bojack. And some keen viewers might notice Diane is pretty fed up with Bojacks shit, and does dump him.
The episode doesn't have the titular F-bomb however The relationship that is being severed is arguably more important than Gina. Diane has been there from the beginning while Gina feels like a "Wanda 2" of sorts.
As the episode begins, were greeted by Bojack dying on the floor. We are prompted to prepare from a dark episode but the show, but the episode seems fairly light lots of comedy and cute-ish gina moments. sure Bojacks drug habits sneak through the comedic aspects but don't they always.
around 8 minutes in to the episode Diane and Bojack bump into each other in the first time in months. But nothing extreme comes out of it. Until Bojack gives a speech about how being a shitty person is okay because were all shitty. Which Is a direct call out to the viewers, but also really shows how this is still the same Bojack who killed Sarah lynn.
After this speech Diane is rightfully upset with Bojack and fighting peruses. And Bojack is a fucking asshole but I assumed they would mend after Bojack came clean about the "escape from L.A" incident. At least on my first watch through , but than Bojack says he suffered more than Sarah lynn and I want to strangle him. I want Diane to Use the seasons F-bomb I want this to be penultimate of season 5.
Diane says she's done with the relationship But Bojack Doesn't seem to care he has severed his last relationship with someone who would actually help him, He is a lost cause.
The scene is followed by Bojack forcing Bogina into the public eye by making out with her live on camera unconsentually. But Gina responds happily and for a moment you forget about the last scene and you forget about all the shitty things bojack has done and you have hope for Bogina.
And than you remember.
Im going to talk about about the introduction of Mr Jelly's storyline next time because him fucking Diane was not something I expected. (on my first watch through I'm on my like 39th/hj)

I finished Bojack Horseman awhile ago and i want to know what are your thoughts on it? I think the ending is probably the best outcome for everyone and mostly Bojack. Him dying would be the easy way out. It's sad that people cut ties with him but he wholly deserved it. If anything i'm glad most of them did it as kindly as they did. I'm also glad Diane chose to trust Guy and trust the happiness provided to her.
I disliked Todd for the most part (the wacky zany antics are too much for me) though i cannot fully hate him because those parts are essential to balance out the episodes, i guess... i'm also satisfied with how his character arc ended.
One thing that surprised me though i noticed that a lot of people apparently hated Hollyhock? How? If anything she's one of the most blameless character in this whole story.
Bottom line uhh, it's a great show! I don't usually watch cartoons but this was so bingeable (which i think is a good thing - i usually have stupid low attention span for shows). The writing is very contemporary american-ish, if that makes sense? Sometimes it sounds like a twitter post rather than a human dialogue. Some of the comedy set pieces are too wacky random zany to my liking. Those are the negatives, but i like everything else! Check it out!!

Book Review
I feel like a lot of people sought this out because they liked "Bojack Horseman." Those that did were not disappointed. This collection of short stories has a lot of the deep quotes and serious subjects littered among absurdist humour and objectively hilarious circumstances. In fact, you find yourself somewhat under the impression that these are probably taking place in Hollywoo somewhere. There's a story about compromises as a couple, and it involves about 50 goat sacrifices. There's a story of friendship and avoidance, and also about the superpowers these 20-something band mates get when they're drunk.
There are a lot of moments that have you laughing out loud. Now, this is a collection of short stories with completely different vibes, with even a couple of poems thrown in there. The ones that are good are brilliant. The ones that are bad---in comparison only, more neutral, really---just seem sort of repetitive and I have no real complaints. My only complaint about the collection in general is that probably 50% were based on waxing poetic about break-ups. Which, fine, I should have probably gleaned that from the title, but I found myself in danger of being bored of heartbreak.
As in real life.
My absolute favourite was the 'Up and Comers.' If you can read Audiobooks, definitely get that version, because Stephanie Beatriz *kills* the voice acting. If I could rate that story alone, it'd be an absolute 10/10, but the entire collection evens out to more like an 8/10.
Definitely worth a read, especially if you're in the mood to binge-Bojack. (AKA, need to refill your SSRI script.)

Bojack Horseman: A Masterclass in Animated Tragi-Comedy
Tumblr media
"Bojack Horseman" isn't just another animated series; it's a profound exploration of existential dread, addiction, fame, and the human (and animal) condition.
With its unique blend of dark humor and poignant storytelling, this show captivates audiences from start to finish.
Animation & Visuals:
The animation is deceptively simple yet incredibly effective. The colorful and whimsical art style contrasts sharply with the show's heavy themes, creating an engaging experience that keeps viewers hooked.
Characters:
One of the show's greatest strengths lies in its complicated characters. From the titular character Bojack Horseman, a washed-up actor grappling with his demons, to the supporting cast including the idealistic Diane Nguyen and the hilarious Todd Chavez, each character feels authentic.
The character development throughout the series is masterfully executed, allowing viewers to witness their growth, setbacks, and ultimately, their humanity.
Tumblr media
Storytelling & Themes:
The show tackles a wide range of themes with nuance and depth. Whether it's exploring the emptiness of celebrity culture, the complexities of mental health, or the search for meaning in a seemingly meaningless world, the show never shies away from difficult topics.
The storytelling is both compelling and thought-provoking, leaving a lasting impact on audiences long after the credits roll.
Tumblr media
Humour & Heart:
Despite its dark subject matter, the show is also incredibly funny. It expertly balances moments of humor with moments of genuine emotion, creating a rollercoaster of laughter and tears. The witty dialogue and clever wordplay add another layer of enjoyment to the viewing experience.
Final Remarks:
"Bojack Horseman" is more than just a cartoon; it's a work of art that pushes the boundaries of what animated television can do. With its rich storytelling, immensely flawed characters, and unique blend of comedy & tragedy, this show is not to be missed.

I recently concluded Bojack Horseman. Previously I had been delaying it cause yk the premise didn't excite me much but I knew its reviews and ratings so I finally gave it a try and it is everything I wanted and much more. It's absurd, existential, funny and so competently written it has easily become one of my favourites I admired it to the core.
It deals with the problems of modern society perfectly and shows us how absurd could life be. Bojack being finally happy but his past comes back to haunt him it's gonna happen cause you have to have consequences for your actions the way it is presented is marvelous.
The background jokes and gags are also exceptional, some being really subtle and others being evident. It rewards you incredibly for paying attention.
Also, along the same vein of obvious/ subtle, the jokes are a wonderful blend of silly cartoonish, smart perceptive, and meta. And it all flows together so flawlessly.
There's also the characters being all written and consistent. All the actions that any given character makes make sense for the character. No one does anything "just because" unless it's Todd because that's who he is. Also, they are regular with the stereotypes associated with the animals like the princess always lands on her feet, etc.
I saw no jokes about any character issues of course there wasn't any hint of punch-down cheap comedy but full-fledged acceptance of who they are and helping them to rectify.
All of this allows the show to lift these heavy themes and fight these concerns without becoming completely dictatorial.
Episodes like From Halfway Down and the one where Bojack's mother died I will remember them for a lifetime. The show is so beautifully crafted it's unbelievable.
A scene like when he grabs Diane and does not let go may be seen as bad but in an earlier dialogue, he says he needs to grab something or he will float away and the episode ends with a Bojack-shaped balloon floating its pure brilliance. "Everything is a metaphor" There are so many scenes like this how can I not fall in love with the show? The on-pointness of the meta-commentary of the fandom, through the Philbert storyline of how Bojack is perceived as a good guy when he is not. The list keeps going and I am sure I have missed quite a few and that makes it more special for me.
" It was nice while it lasted " it definitely was I loved it.

Inbetween Bojack Horseman Review - Spoiler Free
At first I never dived into the show properly or paid attention it. I started from the beginning recently and it’s been amazing. From the subtle analogies in animal talk to the way they tell the story. Even Bojack’s complex character who you can almost understand and how he uses his trauma to add to his victim complex of every awful thing he does.
Side characters like Todd (and his whacky adventures), Sarah Lynn, Mr Peanutbutter,Princess Caroline, Diane - I think they are equally unrelated but understood characters. Diane’s mental troubles, Todd’s obliviousness at times, PC’s work obsessive complex hot mess. I even liked some of the more temporary characters like Bojack’s publicist, the assistant from PC’s firm etc.
This is such a work of art and I think if aliens should understand us - they should watch this (and so should you).

Matthew Perry, Bojack Horseman and The Big Terrible Thing
Fame Fixes Everything!
“I was going to be so famous all the pain I carried with me would melt like frost in the  sunlight. “ – Matthew Perry  “You’re gonna do everything you can to fill that hole, with friends, and your career, and meaningless sex, but the hole doesn’t get filled. One day, you’re gonna look around and you’re going to realize that everybody loves you, but nobody likes you. And that is the loneliest…

Bojack Horseman: Media review of the day
Bojack Horseman is a very interesting show originally the show may entice you into believing its a comedy however around the penultimate episode of season 3 you begin to see the story the show is trying to tell. The show is semi-episodic however there are some episodes a completely new viewer would not find enjoyable.
Without giving away any spoilers the shows comedy aspects are top notch and and have high levels of replayability. The show has a very active community who still regularly posts content. The deeper aspects of the show are very realistic and easily make you feel emotions.
I would not recommend this show for someone looking for a comedy or sitcom experience however.
First season: 7/10
Second season 9/10
Third season 9.2/10
Fourth season 8/10
Fifth season 8/10
Sixth season 9.3/10
Pacing 9/10
Writing/plot 10/10
Comedy 9/10
Characters 9/10

Average score 8.85
Best episodes:
6x 15 or the view from halfway down
2. 3x 11 or That's too much man
3. 5x 6 or the free churro episode.

Oberhofer: Sea Of Dreams

For those of who haven't watched Bojack Horseman, my god...how did you get led down the necessary passage that results in a young adult getting stabbed in the kidneys at their first Death Grips concert? But if you haven't, listen to the song from the best episode of the third (?) season anyway, it managing to be one of the more ethereal songs of the New Tens.
Song Score: 70.8/10

the irony of only finding comfort in making art and consuming art and feeling constant lack dispair from the same culture and people that made it knowing that its from a culture that tells people like me that ill never be enough, not even for fandom culture these days
