Reasons why biryani became the most ordered dish
Tumblr media
Biryani and India, a match made in heaven. At a glance, this statement may seem a bit over the top, but when you consider some data, this will start to make sense. According to the stats released by the topmost online food ordering apps, biryani is the most-ordered food in India. As per the data published by Swiggy, in 2022, 2.28 biriyanis were ordered every second. Also, the data from Zomato reveals that 186 biriyanis are delivered every minute across the country.
So, what is the reason behind this hysteria? Well, let us take a look!
Reasons behind the popularity of biryani
Tumblr media
Apart from the fact that you can easily order biryani online, these are some of the reasons why this rice-based dish has captured the imagination of people:
A complete meal
Biryani as a dish is a complete meal in itself. It has rice which is steamed with meat (either mutton or chicken) or cooked in Dum style. It is lip-smacking and finger-licking good. Not just this, it has got all the essential nutrients in one plate, i.e. proteins and carbohydrates. So, it is not very farfetched to claim that it is a complete meal in itself.
Huge range
In India, there is a whole range of biryani. Based on the meat, there is a different categorization. Based on the type of rice used, there are different versions. Some restaurants make vegetarian biryani as well. However, there is a long-standing debate. Without meat, biryani nerds do not consider it to be in the league. They call it pulao.
Moreover, there are multiple iterations of the dish depending on the location they are from. There is the Hyderabadi variation which is considered to be the top one. Then, there is Lucknowi one which is considered a close second. Next up is the famous biryani of Kolkata which has potatoes in it and brings a completely different palate to the table. There are Bohri, Sindhi, Afghani, Punjabi, Memoni, Malabar, Mughlai, Dindigul, Sri Lankan, Dan Pauk, and Nasi Kebuli versions too. And, each one has a distinctive taste.
●       Easily available
There is the availability of biryani online. But, this can be considered an understatement because there is a lot of it and the stats mentioned above further strengthens the narrative. All credit goes to the great restaurants and chefs who put in their toil and expertise in creating this perfect standalone dish that can be had all alone. You will find it on every Indian food delivery app that is there in the market. All you need to do is place an order, which will be at your home soon.
●       A lot of emotions are attached to it
Tumblr media
The aromatic biryani has a lot of emotions and nostalgia attached to it. Since it is a complete dish with all the nutrition packed, it has been served on birthdays, family get-togethers, and on almost every occasion in Indian households. In India, many weddings are not considered complete without this exemplary dish. The love for biryanis runs deep in our veins.
We have spoken a lot about the great biryani that you can eat. But, if you want to enjoy it in the comfort of your home, then you need to order biryani online. Where should you order it from? If you want to enjoy the classic recipe, then there is no beating Biryani By Kilo. You will find a fantastic range of biryanis at unbeatable prices. So, do not wait and order immediately.

BIOGRAPHY.
001.  devika  is  one  of  two  children  born  to  an  upper  middle  class  family  in  seattle  .  the  kumar  family  is  successful  .  ‘  bragging  rights  to  extended  family  members  ’  successful  .  a  lawyer  .  a  cardiologist  .  two  healthy  children  (  a  son  and  a  daughter  )  .  what  more  could  they  ask  for  ?  unfortunately  for  devika  ,  their  parents’  success  translated  to  strong  expectations  being  thrust  upon  them  from  a  young  age  .  she  is  always  striving  to  be  the  absolute  best  in  whatever  she  did  .  be  it  in  school  ,  sports  ,  extracurriculars  ––  you  name  it  .
and  these  expectations  carry  through  as  they  get  older  .  she  never  wanted  to  disappoint  her  parents  .  it  didn’t  matter  that  it  looked  like  devika  was  slowly  overloading  herself  ,  she  never  wanted  to  disappoint  .  she  was  going  to  make  it  happen  .  and  that  work  eventually  pays  off  when  they  get  accepted  to  harvard  .  unfortunately  ,  her  parents  weren’t  satisfied  .  it  wasn’t  enough  to  get  into  an  ivy  league  university  .  there’s  a  lot  more  for  her  to  prove  .
002.  college  served  as  a  sense  of  freedom  .  they’re  on  their  own  for  the  first  time  .  however  ,  devika  still  feels  the  extent  of  her  parents’  expectations  .  by  the  time  she  graduates  ,  she  has  a  double  major  in  chemistry  and  art  history  and  a  minor  in  south  asian  studies  (  though  ,  the  two  other  additions  to  their  chemistry  major  remain  a  secret  from  their  parents  )  .
it  doesn’t  stop  there  . she  makes  the  decision  to  pursue  her  masters  .  not  in  chemistry  .  just  in  art  history  and  south  asian  studies  .  and  she  hides  that  from  her  parents  .  they  let  them  believe  they’re  doing  it  for  chemistry  .  she’ll  tell  them  eventually  !  so  she  doesn’t  return  home  and  is  instead  off  to  new  york  .  new  city  ,  same  habits  .  study  .  explore  a  new  city  .  date  around  a  little  bit  .  update  her  parents  every  once  in  a  while  .  and  this  works  .  so  much  so  that  after  devika  finishes  obtaining  their  masters  ,  they  move  to  LA  to  get  their  doctorate  .
003.  things  come  crashing  down  while  devika  is  in  LA  .  not  their  career  .  they’re  in  school  and  secured  a  curator  position  within  a  very  well  established  museum  .  she  feels  external  pressure  from  her  parents  to  get  married  .  they  knew  it  was  coming  ,  but  marriage  just  wasn’t  in  devika’s  books  . . .  not  for  a  long  while  .
however  ,  with  news  that  their  brother  had  gotten  engaged  ,  devika’s  parents  started  pushing  her  into  marrying  .  so  much  so  that  they’ve  given  her  a  list  of  suitors  (  of  course  deemed  acceptable  by  their  standards  )  .  she  doesn’t  say  anything  .  she  accepts  it  and  eventually  finds  someone  they’re  compatible  with  .  things  move  as  they  would  .  they’re  engaged  by  the  time  they  finish  their  doctorate  program  .
004.  their  engagement  was  met  with  excitement  all  around  from  everyone  except  devika  .  maybe  it’s  just  jitters  from  how  big  of  a  decision  they’re  making  ,  right  ?  surely  that’ll  wear  off  and  they’ll  be  excited  to  plan  their  wedding  ?  and  that’s  what  they  convince  themselves  to  believe  .
unfortunately  ,  six  months  into  wedding  planning  and  those  feelings  of  dread  haven’t  shaken  .  the  last  thing  she  wants  to  do  is  disappoint  but  marriage  just  wasn’t  in  the  cards  for  her  .  but  devika  makes  the  decision  to  call  off  the  wedding  .  as  expected  ,  it’s  met  with  anger  and  disappointment  .  despite  parting  on  good  terms  with  their  ex-fiance  ,  the  rest  of  their  family  weren’t  as  understanding  .  to  get  away  from  it  all  ,  devika  stumbles  upon  the  crowned  hope  .  they  booked  a  ticket  and  hasn’t  checked  in  with  their  family  since  .
Tumblr media
PERSONALITY.
devika  can  come  off  as  quiet,  caring  and  sensitive  .  always  open  to  listen  and  be  that  shoulder  to  cry  on  .  something  that’s  just  been  part  of  her  charm  .  and  while  they  are  highly  perceptive  and  more  than  willing  to  offer  support  when  needed  ,  they’re  still  closed  off  when  it  comes  to  their  personal  life  .  she’s  reluctant  to  open  up  ,  seeing  it  as  a  burden  to  others  .  and  from  time  to  time  ,  they  can  be  a  little  bit  of  a  perfectionist  and  a  little  dramatic  about  it  .  despite  all  this  ,  she’s  practical  ,  decisive  and  compassionate  .

Some globally loved desserts. Baklava, Apple pie, Creme Brulee, Baked Alaska, and more.
A dessert is a course which concludes a meal. It is generally sweet and it is derived from the French word “desservir” which means to clear the table. It is served after the table is cleared of main course and dishes. There are exceptions of course like a Bohri meal where sweets are given alternately with savoury and spicy food. However generally, desserts are given at the end of a meal. Indians…

TDF Ghar We #Karachiites are #foodies!  So, when we received a circular for a #Bohri food night, we jumped at it, on the roof of TDF “Ghar” (“house” in Urdu)- super dinner, pleasant weather, outstanding view of Quaid-e-Azam’s Mausoleum, typical Parsi loudness and laughter, great service by our Bohri hosts & excellent value for money! However, what was just as interesting was #TDFGhar- one of the old, pre-partition houses in the old city of #Karachi, wonderfully restored by TDF.  Quoting from TDF’s history – “TDF Ghar was built in 1920-30’s.  This house was initially owned by a Hindu woman, Haribai Motiram, which she sold in April 1948 to Hajiani Hanifabai for her daughter Aisha Bai Dawood in June 1948 as a residence. In April 1961 the House was donated to #TheDawoodFoundation.  In 1965, #AhmedDawood established Hanifa Hajiani Haji Gani Vocational Training Center for Women.  The training center used to enroll over 150 students per batch and train them in typing, cooking, sewing, painting, hand & machinery embroidery and English language.  TDF Ghar is open to all to promote informal learning spaces in Karachi.  TDF Ghar is based on a self-sustainability business model- revenues generated from rentals and tickets is re-invested in the upkeep and development of the Ghar.” With a small café on premises, we experienced families, youngsters & groups socially interacting with each other; playing board games; reading; using the library.  It was an amazing experience.  It was surreal finding such an oasis in bustling Karachi! Kudos to The Dawood Foundation for yet another public service to the citizens of Karachi … and Pakistan!
