airsLLide No. 14084: JA8978, Boeing 777-289, JAS Japan Air System, Tokyo-Haneda, September 22, 1997.
JAS Japan Air System, formerly also known as TDA Toa Domestic Airlines, contracted artist Akiro Kurasawa - yes, the movie director of "The Seven Samurai" - to create custom designs for its fleet members when the airline introduced the Triple Seven and the MD-80 to its fleet.
The seven Kurasaw-designed Boeing 777-200 JAS introduced between 1996 and 1998 were quickly dubbed "The Rainbow Seven" for obvious reasons. After JAS was bought by and integrated into JAL Japan Airlines, the Rainbow Seven lost their iconic design and were repainted in the standard JAL livery, but they soldiered on in domestic service until their retirement in 2020/21.

Oof, that would’ve been real bad. And unlike the near-miss at SFO a couple years ago— which was also pilot error but a sort of understandable pilot error that had some contributing factors thanks to poor procedures— this sounds like the American Airlines pilot just fucked up completely.

MH370
One of my favorite articles is one titled "How to disappear a Jetliner" written by Jeff Wise. The article follows the disappearance of MH370 throughout the night until it disappears and then theories of what could have happened to the jetliner. Wise was recently mentioned in a Netflix Documentary about MH370 and it's disappearance. There are many theories about the Boeing 777-200 and it's disappearance. Some say it was hijacked and others saying it was bombed. Personally, the only one that makes the most sense to me is that it was the pilots fault. If it was hijacked, wouldn't it have been claimed by some type of group? And if it was bombed, something had to be seen by planes that were around it without knowing or potential ships in the water.
My "favorite" theory per say is the one about Russian hijackers. Mainly because it's the most reached out of all of them. It doesn't make sense. And yet Jeff Wise, the author of my favorite aviation article, speculates it. It's such a out-of-touch theory but yet it's the first one I think of given its craziness.
The disappearance of this plane will likely never be figured out. The only way to close this case is with the black-boxes, which are likely on an ocean floor somewhere. This case will forever be a mystery and for the families involved, my thoughts are with them for as long as I am here.

airsLLide No. 4462: TC-JBL, McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32, THY Turkish Airlines, Zürich, April 28, 1990.
The growth of Turkish Airlines over the past three decades is stunning when looking back at the times this classic DC-9 takes to the skies for the 2.5 hours return trip to Istanbul. Back in 1990, the carrier served its routes to Europe with eleven units of the twin-jet and fifteen Boeing 727-200s used for destinations with high demand.
In 1990, it had just started to take delivery of the first Boeing 737-400s of which it would eventually use 32 airframes (plus two -500s), along with 19 Airbus A310 widebodies for routes with higher demand and flights to Mid-Eastern destinations.
That is still 'peanuts' compared to the current fleet of over 400 aircraft the Turkish flag carrier flies on a global network in the mid 2020s, with over 150 units of the A320- and A320neo family and over 90 Boeing 737NG and MAX used on European routes, and A330s, A350s, Boeing 777s and Boeing 787s widebodies from the intercontinental fleet stepping in when demand in European markets is high.
