Oh woe is me! My week began with great anticipation. D would drive to Evansville today (Friday) leaving me to my own devices for four days!

Early in the week I began curating a selection of Shane food to indulge in while on my own, simultaneously planning enough outings to make consuming it all a challenge. At one point D looked at the various containers of peppers, spices, and dry goods laid out on the counter and with some trepidation asked, "What are you making?"

I laughed and said I didn't know, I could make so many delightful dishes with these things I'll decide in the moment. She rolled her eyes smirked and said "Have fun."

When I woke up this morning I realized the scratchy throat I'd been ignoring for the last two days was now congestion and a cough. FUCK ME!

I sent a text canceling my Saturday plans which included Orval day, a new beer release, and whatever else I managed to wander into during Louisville's Bockfest. The town will be full of Sweet 16 fans and the bars and restaurants will be hopping!

I will be here, coughing and blowing my nose, while my 4 way chili, stuffed bell peppers, grilled wings, jalapeños poppers...taste bland and no beer gets drank at all!

Oh lord why hast thou forsaken me?

Lolol no one is complaining the kitchen smells like onions, I'm about to turn the speakers up to 90db, and I think I'll watch Nope in a little while. Yeah, I know, my white privileged suffering is something to be thankful for...as is this chili.

Now we have all six Sausage Princesses, shit got real and I need to make up for the week I lost due to my HVAC system so I got some thinking ice cream and Flashy to help me get ready for the final competition on Bockfest Saturday!!

I am generally conflict averse except for when it comes to standing up against injustice, but here is the one story about the time I really wanted to Fight A Man

I am generally discouraged from telling this story, as I get worked up and once again want to Fight A Man. But my husband has taken a NyQuil for a headcold, so this is real life "mods are asleep..." so here goes.

A few years ago--I think six at this point--I am attending Bockfest, which is loud and cacophonous and made worse by the fact that everyone is drinking. It is the sort of event that rationally I know is autistic hell, but the vibes are immaculate because everyone gets into it and also it is right on the cusp of spring. And not for nothing, there are a food stalls and I am a sucker for food stalls. So I go to Bockfest, forgetting just how miserable I will be at Bockfest. (nb: Even writing this out, there is a chance I attend Bockfest this year, telling myself it will be fine.)

This time, I brought a book with me. I knew I probably would not be able to read it, but I seldom leave home without an emotional support book.

I suppose I should give context--if you don't know what bock is, it is a type of beer, which was typically made seasonally around Lent.

There is a lull in the action, and I am able to sit down at the table and I'm about to read my book, when The Man Who To This Day I Want to Fight walks up to the table and spills his beer all over my book (which is in my hand) and a little bit of beer hits the table in front of me.

The spill was an accident. I do not fault him for the spill. What I do fault him for was seeing it happen, NOT APOLOGIZING, and then grabbing every napkin in sight to wipe up an already sticky table, leaving me no napkins to wipe off my book.

It still baffles me. Like the lack of apology was already baffling, but then to go so out of his way to make sure I couldn't fix the scenario... I once again want to Fight This Man.

Important context that I am not sure makes it better or worse: I don't know this man per se, we've never interacted outside of this incident, but he was part of the larger social circle that I was also there as a part of, so it was weird... If he were a complete stranger I don't know that I would expect more or less.
