A Hawaii teenager has been rescued after spending nearly 12 hours lost amid stormy seas. A volunteer lifeguard was key to his safe return, officials said.
Kahiau Kawai, 17, had gone kayaking with his high school team at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. The group encountered strong winds and rough seas, and decided to turn back. The team later realized Kawai was missing, and called 911 at around 6:30 p.m., local officials said in a press conference on Thursday.
Multiple crews began to search the area, including the U.S. Coast Guard. Searchers used aircraft and rescue boats to try to find the missing teen.
Meanwhile, off-duty lifeguard Noland Keaulana had been made aware of the missing kayaker. He sprang into action and took a boat out to start his own search at around 8:30 p.m., spending hours conducting a 100-mile search around the area.
Hours later, just after 4 a.m., a U.S. Coast Guard C-130 Hercules aircraft crew spotted Kawai in the water. He was treading water and clinging to his kayak, officials said. He had lost his paddle and was using the kayak as a kickboard to stay close to shore, officials said.
The Coast Guard made radio contact with Keaulana and dropped a flare signaling Kawai's location.
"I went to the flare and they gave me more direction and we were able to find the boy and when I approached him, I saw the kayak, I saw his head above water. And I was so stoked to see that he was alive," Keaulana said in the news conference. The rescue was filmed and shared by the Coast Guard.
Keaulana pulled Kawai onto the boat and wrapped him in blankets and towels. He brought him to the Ala Wai Boat Harbor, where he was treated by Honolulu Emergency Medical Services paramedics. Paramedics administered "advanced life support." Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokesperson Shayne Enright said Kawai was experiencing hypothermia, extreme dehydration and "a lot of severe cramping," but was awake and alert.
Kawai was transported to a local hospital, where his family says he is recovering.
"A very special mahalo to good samaritans, friends and family, and especially lifeguard and waterman Noland Keaulana who went out on his own to search for Kahiau all night, never giving up, using his instincts and knowledge of the ocean," the family said in a statement, according to HawaiiNewsNow.
Keaulana said he wouldn't have been able to sleep if he didn't go search for Kawai.
"I'm just thankful the kid's alive," Keaulana said. "The whole night was an emotional night. Especially after letting every minute go by. Then and then kind of like, I was expecting the worst. And then when I seen his head up next to the kayak ... this kid's strong. I'm glad we got to bring him back."
The dramatic incident unfolded about a week after the Coast Guard rescued a boat captain who rode out Hurricane Milton in the Gulf of Mexico before he was found clinging to a cooler around 30 miles off of Florida.

Hernando County Recovery Continues after Hurricane Milton: Let's Get Out and Celebrate!
We continue to be inspired and awed by the Hernando County community coming together and the businesses pushing through to open as soon as damages are mitigated. The businesses featured in the last story all seem to be open still, after weathering Hurricane Helene, rebuilding, and then weathering Hurricane Milton. Hurricane Milton was gentler to the Hernando Beach, Bayport, Aripeka, Weeki Wachee area that Helene, but it was horribly damaging to the more inland parts of Hernando County. Downed power lines, trees, fences, lost pets, and rising floodwaters have made us wonder if Armageddon is upon us. Withlacoochee River Electric, Duke Energy, Sumter Electric, TECO Energy and all the tree trimming, debris clearing workers who have worked tirelessly to restore our homes, power and transportation have been the heroes of all this calamity. Stay tuned for more info on the Ridge Manor, Brooksville, Trilby, and Spring Lake recovery from Milton. Meanwhile, enjoy this video from Sparacia Witherell Family Winery and Florida's Adventure Coast. https://youtu.be/XRNL-dygB8w?si=8uR0XiwjR_0yZRjG An adorable waterfront restaurant called Tropical Grille reopened after three weeks of hard work by its owner, staff, and volunteers on Thursday, October 17. Tropical Grill is located under the thatched roof at 4139 Shoal Line Blvd. in Hernando Beach, at the rear of the Hernando Beach Marina. “Here at the Hernando Beach Tropical Grille, we feature a diverse selection of New England seafood as well as burgers, sandwiches, fajitas, wings, steaks and so much more. We pride ourselves on using only the freshest and finest ingredients available. All of our dishes are made in-house, from scratch and to order,” says Christy Legg. After three weeks of cleaning, repairing and organizing, Christy Legg, Ana, and Jasmine pose here the day they reopened Tropical Grille in Hernando Beach. Image courtesy of Tropical Grille Facebook. Marina Rose Cruise Boat offers Comet Watching Cruises this Weekend The Marina Rose cruise boat was recently purchased by Pat and Sheryl Coggins. “When we moved to Hernando Beach in 2021, the first thing we did was to book a dinner cruise on the Marina Rose. We figured this was the best way to check out the local waterways, support a local business, and have fun,” Sheryl says. That is where the Coggins first met Randy and Rosa. They were impressed with the food, the level of service, fair prices, and the feeling of being part of their family. They enjoyed many cruises on the Marina Rose over several years, and when the opportunity arose, Pat and Sheryl became the owners of this wonderful attraction in Hernando Beach. The Marina Rose Cruise Boat offers comet- watching dinner cruises this weekend. Book yours now! Image courtesy of Marina Rose Cruise Boat Facebook. After the two hurricanes, cruises are still going strong and this weekend offers guests the opportunity to see the Tsuchinshan-ATLAS comet during their dinner cruise Friday and Saturday nights. According to The Weather Channel, you want to have as clear a view of the western horizon as you can and look in that direction about 15 – 45 minutes after sunset. You cannot get a better view of the western horizon anywhere than Hernando Beach. The Marina Rose Cruises offers dinner cruises Friday through Sunday nights at 6 pm. Go to www.MarinaRoseCruises.com or call (352)232-8128 to see if any seats are left. Brian's Place Fundraiser is Saturday in Hernando Beach Brian’s Place has been a popular place on Hernando Beach for years, but Hurricane Helene dealt a devastating blow to the Italian/Spanish fusion restaurant located at 3430 Shoal Line Blvd. Repairs are already underway, but it will be a while before they are able to reopen. Meanwhile, some of their loyal patrons brought lunch to Brian on October 15, and we have the opportunity to stop by tomorrow, October 19 for the Epic Patio Party on the patio at Brians Place employee fundraiser. Bring cash – there will be an ATM on-site - and enjoy specialty cocktails and unique food. You can grab a bottle of locally bottled Vodka or Breckenridge Whiskey too. All tip donations go to the 30 staff members affected. Let’s pack the patio and make it a day to remember! Diane McGee Craddock, Brian Alvarez, and Brenda McGee pose in front of the restaurant while it is under repairs. Image courtesy of Facebook. The Kayak Shack is renting kayaks from a trailer in their parking lot. Their building, with its beautiful artwork by Steven Benevides was condemned and plans are underway to replace or repair it. Meanwhile, rentals are available The Wandering Weeki Wachee Mermaids are Found Two mermaids were lost – or took “floatabouts” - from The Hernando Beach Motel and The Silver Dolphin Restaurant – Nova and Rebel. Nova is a blue-haired mermaid with the constellations and the sky as part of her story and The Rebel, a rebel mermaid with fiery red hair and old-school sailor Jerry tattoos. Nova was recorded floating down a Hernando Beach Canal by John Prout, whose video of the event went viral. Steve Daniel used his drone to find “The Rebel” far out in the Weeki Wachee Preserve. Both mermaids will be rescued and returned to their homes as soon as possible. Rebel the Weeki Wachee mermaid was found by Steve Daniel in the Weeki Wachee Preserve via his drone over a week after she went on her floatabout. Image courtesy of Steve Daniel. Downtown Brooksville is Open for Business Saturday offers the Brooksville Farmer’s Market in downtown Brooksville, as well as the dedication of the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation mural on the City of Brooksville building at 9:30 am. All weekend, theatergoers can enjoy Anne of Avonlea at the Live Oak Theatre. There is a free annual wildlife-themed fall festival this Saturday from 9 am to noon at Chinsegut Conservation Center! This year's theme is raptors (a.k.a. birds of prey) and the staff can’t wait for visitors to experience all the activities they’ve prepared! This event is perfect for families with children, but all who are adventurous and young at heart are welcome! Hernando Symphony Brass will be giving a free concert at the Nature Coast Botanical Gardens, located on Parker Ave in Spring Hill, on Saturday, October 19th, at 10:00 am. Hope to see you there. Rebuilding is inspiring, if exhausting. Please be kind to everyone you meet in your travels as we don't know what challenges each is facing. Read the full article

Hurricane Helene approaches landfall, bringing 'unsurvivable' storm surge to Florida's coast.
Helene intensified into a Category 4 hurricane with winds exceeding 140 mph, ahead of its expected landfall in Florida's Big Bend region.
Hurricane Helene intensified into a devastating Category 4 storm with 140 mph winds as it neared Florida's Big Bend region, threatening a potentially "unsurvivable" 20-foot storm surge, destructive hurricane-force winds, and heavy flooding.
The National Weather Service in Tallahassee issued an Extreme Wind Warning for several Big Bend counties ahead of the approaching eyewall.
Weather Forecast For 32810 - Orlando FL:
According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Helene’s enormous size poses a significant risk of life-threatening storm surges along the entire west coast of the Florida Peninsula and the Big Bend region.
The highest storm surge, with up to 20 feet of flooding, is expected between Carrabelle and the Suwannee River in Florida, while areas like Apalachicola and Chassahowitzka are forecasted to see 10-15 feet of surge.
Power outages surge as Hurricane Helene’s winds batter Florida According to the latest NHC advisory, tropical storm conditions are affecting much of Florida's west coast. A wind gust of 82 mph was recorded near St. Petersburg on Thursday, with similar conditions in Sarasota, where a gust reached 74 mph.
Ahead of landfall, more than half a million customers were already without power, with outages also rising in Georgia and the Carolinas.
"A catastrophic and deadly storm surge is expected along parts of Florida's Big Bend coast, with water levels possibly reaching up to 20 feet above ground, accompanied by destructive waves," the NHC warned. The National Weather Service in Tallahassee described the anticipated storm surge in Apalachee Bay as "catastrophic and potentially unsurvivable."
Climate and Average Weather Year Round in 79912 El Paso TX:

FOX Weather's Ian Oliver reported that streets around St. Pete Beach were quickly submerged by the surge Thursday evening, even with high tide still hours away.
Further south in Sunset Beach, local fire rescue announced it would no longer respond to emergency calls due to severe flooding.
Clearwater Beach recorded its highest storm surge since the Superstorm of 1993, exceeding 7 feet.
Water Rescues Underway Along Florida's Gulf Coast
In Lee County, deputies were seen going door-to-door in Fort Myers Beach, searching for storm victims in need of assistance.
A storm surge exceeding 5 feet flooded roads, forcing deputies to use boats for rescue operations.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office also deployed a swamp buggy in the Margaritaville neighborhood along Fort Myers Beach to aid in the search efforts.
The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office in Florida's Big Bend urged residents who ignored mandatory evacuation orders for Hurricane Helene to write their name and identifying information on their arms or legs in permanent marker.
"Phase 2 of the storm will hit this evening when Helene makes landfall," said FOX Weather Hurricane Specialist Bryan Norcross. "Based on all indications, widespread damage is expected around Tallahassee, extending east, west, and far north into Georgia. These heavily wooded areas won't withstand the extreme winds, and power outages could last for weeks."
During the hurricane, the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a serious crash on Interstate 4, with one fatality possible.
A Florida Department of Transportation video showed a dislodged highway sign lying on a car. While the cause of the crash remains unclear, troopers urged residents to stay home until the worst of the storm passes.

A reminder of the devastation from 2018's Hurricane Michael Nearly all of Florida is under tropical weather alerts, with Tropical Storm Warnings stretching hundreds of miles inland into Georgia and the Carolinas, including the city of Atlanta.
NHC Director Dr. Michael Brennan spoke with FOX Weather on Thursday, urging residents to heed official instructions and evacuate immediately if directed to do so.
"The impacts of this storm are vast and will extend across multiple states, reaching into the Carolinas and southern Appalachians—bringing storm surge, hurricane and tropical storm force winds, and the potential for catastrophic rainfall," Brennan explained.
He referenced Hurricane Michael in 2018 to highlight the dangers of storm surge.
youtube
"When Hurricane Michael struck Mexico Beach in 2018, some people waited until the last minute to evacuate, and tragically, some drowned in their cars as the water rose too quickly for them to escape," Brennan said. "This is why it's crucial to follow evacuation orders from local officials and leave before the storm hits. Many areas still have time, but that time is quickly running out."

WND: ‘Sleeper cells in almost every American urban area’
@bible-news-prophecy-radio
COGwriter
World Net Daily posted the following:
‘Sleeper cells in almost every American urban area’
July 8, 2024
WND spoke in-depth with Varlese, a former Army Mountain Infantry Platoon Sergeant who served in domestic and overseas roles from 2001-2018, including as a sniper section leader. Since 2018, Varlese has also provided security consulting services for public and private sectors, including tactical training, physical and information security, executive protection, protective intelligence, risk management, insider threat mitigation and anti-terrorism.
“There have been several incidents in previous months,” Varlese told WND, “that serve to highlight the continued national security threat presented by this administration’s encouraged flood of illegal aliens over the last three and a half years.”
The number of people entering the U.S. illegally is concerning beyond explanation, said Varlese. “At least 8 million illegal aliens from over 100 countries have crossed the southern border in the last three-and-a-half years,” he noted, adding that “almost all have been released and even transported to 48 states by the DHS or various non-governmental organizations.”
What about security vetting?
“Almost none have been properly vetted,” Varlese told WND, including many thousands of individuals from “hostile or terror haven countries” like Afghanistan, Venezuela, Syria and China. He also pointed out, chillingly, that, “Most of the illegals that have flooded the southern border since … Biden undid all of President Trump’s border policies are military-age males.”
Although “most are likely here for economic reasons,” he said, “there are undoubtedly a significant number of bad actors that have been given a free pass to create sleeper cells in almost every American urban area.”
Example: “Because there are tens of thousands of Chinese nationals, hundreds on the terror watch list, and millions of unvetted individuals scattered across the country,” warns Varlese, “it is not a question of if something bad will happen, but when.” …
He pointed to a brand-new threat with great terror potential: “This threat will only be exacerbated if [Biden] allows unrestricted access to so-called Palestinian refugees, who, let us not forget, celebrated the wanton murder of innocents on Sept. 11, 2001 and Oct. 7, 2023.”
Apart from the Islamist threat, Varlese told WND that the Chinese communist regime poses a nearly equal threat. https://www.wnd.com/2024/07/sleeper-cells-almost-every-american-urban-area/
Most in Haiti need help.
Let me add that Haiti government policies sometimes make it difficult to get food and other aid into the country as Haiti imposes taxes on various relief supplies.
Many in Haiti want to leave.
Yet, there are concerns that the crises in Haiti may lead to more gang members coming into the USA and becoming a major terrorist threat:
The risk to the United States is extreme if some gangs from Haiti start infiltrating the U.S., said retired Brig. Gen. Blaine Holt.
“Honestly, Haiti is a product — quite bluntly stated — of the U.S. State Department over many decades of mismanagement, lack of leadership, outright corruption, if you look at some of the NGOs [nongovernmental organizations] like the Clinton Foundation,” Holt said Friday during an appearance on Newsmax’s “The Chris Salcedo Show.”
“And so now we’re all shocked that while we focus our attention on foreign wars that Haiti has fallen apart in our own backyard, next to a southern border that’s wide open.” …
“This is a separate brand of gangster because these folks are cannibals,” Holt said. “And they just opened up the two prisons that are sitting there in Haiti and said, ‘There’s the boats; go to America.’ And now our own government, the Coast Guard is reporting that they have orders to allow them to have permissible access to the United States, which would be Florida. …
“We’re going to have another standoff. And if these people make it to the United States, we’ve just elevated the level of clear and present danger to our people.” https://www.newsmax.com/politics/haiti-gangs-holt/2024/03/15/id/1157483/
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation is concerned about terrorists coming into the USA with fake identification documents:
FBI warns of suspected terrorists infiltrating U.S. with fake IDs via southern border
March 15, 2024
FBI Director Christopher Wray, in a recent hearing with the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, highlighted concerns regarding the escalation in potential threats against the U.S. Intelligence officials have observed a troubling trend: known or suspected terrorists exploiting the southern border by utilizing fake identification. …
Former Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Victor Avila has drawn attention to the concerning tactic of individuals infiltrating migrant groups, disguising their identities by assuming different nationalities and presenting fraudulent documents upon entry. This tactic poses significant challenges to border security and raises concerns about potential national security risks
“They’re infiltrating us within these groups that are turning themselves in because a lot of them have been in Mexico for a while. They learned to speak Spanish. They shaved their beards. They look like possibly a Mexican national, a Central American, and they have fake documents,” former Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Victor Avila stated.
“So, they present these fake documents and enter with a different nationality. It just gives me chills to think of the national security implications that we’re facing and that we possibly will face in the near future,” continued Avila. https://lawenforcementtoday.com/fbi-warns-of-suspected-terrorists-infiltrating-u-s-with-fake-ids-via-southern-border
Yes, many potential terrorists have come into the USA. Some legally, some illegally.
While the number of potential foreign terrorists in the USA can be debated, as far as aliens and the lands of end time descendants of Israel go (which includes the USA and Canada; see also Lost Tribes and Prophecies: What will happen to Australia, the British Isles, Canada, Europe, New Zealand and the United States of America?), the Bible warns:
43 “The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower. 44 He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail.
45 “Moreover all these curses shall come upon you and pursue and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. 46 And they shall be upon you for a sign and a wonder, and on your descendants forever.
47 “Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, 48 therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the Lord will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in need of everything; and He will put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you. 49 The Lord will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 a nation of fierce countenance, which does not respect the elderly nor show favor to the young. 51 And they shall eat the increase of your livestock and the produce of your land, until you are destroyed; they shall not leave you grain or new wine or oil, or the increase of your cattle or the offspring of your flocks, until they have destroyed you. (Deuteronomy 28:43-51)
Because of current and expected future ties to the USA, Canada is expected to suffer basically the same fate as the USA–it will be taken over and its lands will be divided, as that is what the Bible shows will happen to the USA in Daniel 11:39.
The following prophecies in the Book of Isaiah are related to the USA and its Anglo-Saxon descended allies such as the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand:
8 The Lord sent a word against Jacob, And it has fallen on Israel. 9 All the people will know — Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria — … 11 Therefore the Lord shall set up The adversaries of Rezin against him, And spur his enemies on, 12 The Syrians before and the Philistines behind; And they shall devour Israel with an open mouth. (Isaiah 9:8-9, 11-12)
Syrian and Palestinian refugees are a potential problem. The Bible clearly is prophesying problems from some Syrians and some Palestinians. And this would be expected to include terrorism.
Notice some biblical prophecies:
5 They have corrupted themselves; They are not His children, Because of their blemish: A perverse and crooked generation. … 25 The sword shall destroy outside; There shall be terror within (Deuteronomy 32:5,25)
12 “Cry and wail, son of man; For it will be against My people, Against all the princes of Israel. Terrors including the sword will be against My people; Therefore strike your thigh. (Ezekiel 21:12)
25 Because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, 27 When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you. (Proverbs 1:25-27)
5 Also they are afraid of height, And of terrors in the way (Ecclesiastes 12:5).
6 You have forsaken Me,” says the Lord, “You have gone backward. Therefore I will stretch out My hand against you and destroy you; I am weary of relenting! 7 And I will winnow them with a winnowing fan in the gates of the land; I will bereave them of children; I will destroy My people, Since they do not return from their ways. 8 Their widows will be increased to Me more than the sand of the seas; I will bring against them, Against the mother of the young men, A plunderer at noonday; I will cause anguish and terror to fall on them suddenly. (Jeremiah 15:6-8)
Many political, media, and other leaders refuse to believe the Bible, but that those of us who believe the Bible realize that terrorism is prophesied.
While most migrants are not terrorists, some are dangerous and will be dangerous to the USA and Canada.
Related to recent USA attacks and the potential for terrorism, the Continuing Church of God (CCOG) put together the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:
youtube
14:08
USA Attacks! Terror will come!
On February 2, 2024, the USA launched a massive attack against what it claimed were Iranian-back militias in retaliation for strikes against USA troops and other interests. Iraq and Iran condemned these attacks. Is this the start of World War Three? Who will be the protagonist for WWIII? What about a larger regional conflict in the Middle East? Does Iran have any theological reasons for attempting to cause chaos in the region? Could Iran damage the USA militarily through dirty bombs, electromagnetic pulse weapons, biological agents, and/or chemical weapons? If the USA were to have a direct war with Iran that it loses, could the USA be subjected to increased terrorism according to biblical prophecies? Dr. Thiel and Steve Dupuie address these matters.
Here is a link to our video: USA Attacks! Terror will come!
And, yes, there are also terrorist threats from many foreigners that are legally in the USA (watch also our video: Afghanis: Potential terrorists?).
Psalm 83 also looks to be a prophecy related to terrorism, but mainly from the Middle East and North Africa. Related to that we made a sermon video:
youtube
1:10:09
Terrorism, Iran, and Fatima
Does the Bible warn about terrorism, whereas the Quran encourages it? What are Psalm 83 and Isaiah 9 telling us? Will the USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom be hit by more terrorism? Are there prophecies showing great damage coming to part of Jerusalem as well as the tiny nation called Israel by a confederation of Iran, Syria, Hezbollah, and Palestinians? Do Muslims revere Mary? Did Muslims have prayer beads before Roman Catholics had rosaries? Who was Fatima? What about the tie to the apparition that appeared to three shepherd children in 1917 in Fatima, Portugal? Might ‘Mary’ be used as an ecumenical and interfaith tool? What did the late Roman Catholic Archbishop Fulton Sheen advocate? Does Islamic prophecy warn about a female apparition? Could “the Lady” that appeared in 1917 have been Jesus’ mother Mary or Muhammad’s daughter Fatima? Does the pilgrim statue at Fatima resemble what appeared? Did all the accounts from those that saw the apparition assert that the “Lady” wore a short skirt? Would Mary or Fatima possibly dressed that way in 1917 Portugal? Did Lucia and some of the Roman Catholic clergy suspect that what appeared in 1917 was from the devil? Might Muslims temporarily accept a changed ‘Roman Catholic’ faith after some undeniable apparition? Dr. Thiel covers that and more.
Here is a link to the sermon: Terrorism, Iran, and Fatima.
Since the Bible warns that, “There shall be terror within” (Deuteronomy 32:25), yes, potentially having millions of terrorists within the borders of the USA (and Canada) is dangerous.
Expect more terrorism to come.
Terrorism will not truly be stopped until Jesus returns and establishes the millennial kingdom of God. Pray for it (Matthew 6:10).

At least 500 migrants landed along the Florida Keys over the last several days, prompting the temporary closure of an isolated national park, officials said.
About 300 migrants had arrived in small boats at the Dry Tortugas National Park — about 70 miles west of Key West — over the New Year's Day weekend. The National Park Service announced Monday that the park was closed to allow law enforcement and medical personnel to evaluate the migrants before transporting them to Key West.
The park service said the closure will last for several days.
Like other parts of the Florida Keys, the park has recently seen an influx of migrants arriving by boat from Cuba, according to the park service. “Refugee arrivals require a lot of resources from the Sheriff’s Office as we help our federal law enforcement partners ensure the migrants are in good health and safe,” said Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay in a news release.
In a separate migration, more than 160 migrants arrived by boats in other parts of the Florida Keys over the weekend, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. On Monday, 30 people in two other groups of migrants were found in the Middle Keys.
At least 88 of the migrants are from Cuba, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a tweet.
In an attempted landing, crew members aboard two cruise ships rescued about two dozen migrants in small boats on Monday. Crew members form Celebrity Beyond rescued 19 migrants and the Carnival Celebrations crews found five people about 29 miles northwest of Cuba.
Federal agencies, including Homeland Security Task Force — Southeast and the U.S. Coast Guard Southeast, and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office have been managing the "spike" in migrant landings since Saturday, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
The wave of migration is a result of inflation, food shortages, and economic turmoil across Cuba and other parts of the Caribbean. Florida's migrant landings is the latest border scramble the U.S. has faced in recent months.
To call attention to the Biden administration’s immigration policies, border-state governors have sent migrants in buses to other cities. In December, three buses of migrant families arrived from Texas near the home of Vice President Kamala Harris on Christmas Eve months after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent nearly 50 migrants to Martha's Vineyard
U.S. Border Patrol and Coast Guard along South Florida and the Keys have been experiencing the largest increase of migrations by boat in nearly a decade with migrants mostly from Cuba and Haiti.
Since Oct. 1, 2022, the Miami Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol has experienced "over a 400% increase in migrant encounters," said Chief Patrol Agent Walter N. Slosar in a statement.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office criticized the federal response to migrant landings on Monday. U.S. Border Patrol told the sheriff's office that the federal response to some of the migrants arriving may have to wait a day — "aggravating the mass migration crisis in the Keys," the sheriff's office said.
"This shows a lack of a working plan by the federal government to deal with a mass migration issue that was foreseeable," Ramsay said.

Flooding triggered by Debby traps people in their homes and prompts rescues in Pennsylvania.
Rapidly rising floodwaters from Debby’s intense rainfall have overwhelmed communities in the Northeast, damaging homes, inundating roads, and prompting rescues.
Rare flash flood emergencies—the most severe flood alert—were issued early Friday afternoon for parts of southern New York and northern Pennsylvania, warning of life-threatening and catastrophic flooding. The floodwaters trapped people in their homes, leading to evacuations by boat and helicopter.
Although Debby has moved out of the Northeast, its heavy rain left a widespread footprint of flooding and tornado damage spanning hundreds of miles.
Climate and Average Weather Year Round in 21043 - Ellicott City MD:
At least seven people have died in the Southeast since Debby made landfall in Florida as a Category 1 storm on Monday. Its heavy rain and strong winds have devastated homes, flooded neighborhoods, and trapped people in cars, homes, and boats. The sweltering heat expected this weekend could complicate recovery efforts.
Here’s the latest update:
Helicopters Aiding Rescues in Pennsylvania: Officials have received hundreds of calls for assistance, including numerous air rescues from dangerous flooding in Tioga County, northern Pennsylvania, according to county commissioner Shane Nickerson. As of Friday afternoon, 80 to 90 people still needed to be evacuated from their homes. Emergency crews have also been affected by the flooding. Helicopters and boats are assisting in the response, and the Pennsylvania National Guard has been deployed to help, Nickerson added.
Pennsylvania Emergency Declaration: Governor Josh Shapiro announced a disaster proclamation on X Friday evening, covering 21 counties. The declaration aims to “provide more resources and streamline the response to severe storms and flooding caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby,” Shapiro stated.
Three Simultaneous Flash Flood Emergencies: Debby’s intense rainfall created life-threatening flooding situations along the Pennsylvania-New York border on Friday afternoon. A flash flood emergency was issued for Steuben County in southern New York, followed shortly by another for the nearby cities of Whitesville and Andover. Hundreds of homes are under mandatory evacuation orders, as Steuben County Manager Jack Wheeler reported that many areas are flooded with residents trapped in their homes. The National Weather Service indicated about 40 swift water rescues in the area, and significant damage has occurred to homes, businesses, roads, and bridges. Later on Friday, evacuation orders for Addison and Canisteo were lifted due to receding waters. A third flash flood emergency was declared for Westfield in northern Pennsylvania, where dangerous flooding was also reported.
Life-Threatening Flooding in North Carolina: Greensboro was under a flash flood emergency Friday night following heavy rainfall. The National Weather Service in Raleigh advised seeking higher ground immediately, as water rescues had already been carried out. The Greensboro Police Department reported multiple water rescues due to road and vehicle flooding.
Tornado and Flash Flood Warnings for DC: Several tornado warnings were issued for the Washington, DC area, including one near Reagan National Airport just after 8:20 a.m. Friday. Although this warning was canceled within 20 minutes, it highlighted the rapidly escalating threats from Debby. Multiple flash flood warnings were also issued as rain fell at extreme rates, exceeding 1 inch every 20 minutes. This heavy rain quickly led to ponding on roadways and caused delays in public transportation, with several Metrorail lines experiencing disruptions.
Water Rescues in South Carolina: Debby’s heavy rain affected parts of South Carolina overnight, leading to dozens of water rescues north of Charleston. As of Friday morning, emergency management spokesperson Jenna-Lee Walls reported at least 26 rescues in Berkeley County, particularly around Moncks Corner, where a rare flash flood emergency was declared. The area received nearly 9 inches of rain in six hours, resulting in 2 to 3 feet of fast-moving water on roads. No serious injuries were reported, but roadways in the region remained severely flooded. Weather Forecast For 60642-Chicago-IL:
https://www.behance.net/gallery/201392597/Weather-Forecast-For-60642-Chicago-IL
States of Emergency Declared in Virginia, New York, and New Jersey: Frederick County, Virginia, was under a state of emergency Friday morning due to flooding that necessitated multiple water rescues, according to officials. Located approximately 60 miles west of Washington and nestled in the Appalachians, the area has been significantly affected. Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for all of New York as Debby’s remnants impacted the region. New Jersey is set to enter a state of emergency starting at 6 p.m., as announced by Lt. Governor Tahesha Way in a post on X Friday.
Death Toll Increases: A 78-year-old woman was found dead Thursday after a tree fell on her trailer in Rockingham, North Carolina, which had been under a tornado watch earlier that day, according to the county sheriff. Another man was discovered deceased in Wilson County, North Carolina, after his home collapsed during a tornado generated by Debby, according to a county official. In total, at least five storm-related deaths have been reported: four in Florida and one in Georgia.
Florida State Response and Water Rescues: Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers have rescued at least 130 people due to severe flooding, including a family of five trapped in an apartment and four individuals with their pets stranded on a barn roof, as reported in a release from Governor Ron DeSantis. The Florida National Guard has mobilized over 2,300 members in response to Debby and has assisted in rescuing at least 154 people. Restoration efforts are underway to restore power, clear debris, and aid wildlife affected by the storm.
Residents Displaced by Flooding
The heavy rains have inundated homes and caught many residents off guard.
Saravana Karthik told CNN affiliate WPVI that emergency rescue teams evacuated him and his family from their home in Avondale, Pennsylvania, by boat after over five feet of water completely submerged their basement.
“It’s completely unsafe to stay there because it’s fully underwater,” Karthik said.
Disaster response teams from the American Red Cross have set up shelters and are assisting displaced residents affected by Debby’s remnants.
“We’re providing food, shelter, and addressing their immediate needs,” Jennifer Graham, regional CEO for the American Red Cross, told WPVI.

In neighboring New York’s Steuben County, residents are also grappling with flood damage. Ann Farkas, a resident of Canisteo, New York, shared with the Associated Press that it was the first time her home had flooded since she moved there in 1976. While the water levels have receded, she now faces the task of shoveling thick silt and dealing with repairs.
“Like many others, I don’t have flood insurance, so I’m doubtful my homeowner’s policy will cover this,” she told the Associated Press.
Three Children Rescued from Raleigh Creek
Debby’s rainfall has dumped over a foot of rain across parts of Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas, leading to severe flooding and water rescues as people became trapped in their homes and vehicles.
In Raleigh, North Carolina, three children were rescued Thursday after being swept into a creek fed by Debby’s rainfall, according to local fire officials. The children—11-year-old Andrew, his 8-year-old sister Evelyn, and their friend—had been playing near the creek when they were caught by the swift current. When rescue personnel arrived, the children were clinging to a tree branch.
“It was very frightening because the water was rushing fast, and there were sticks hitting us. It was really scary because, in the end, my friend was barely holding on,” Evelyn told WRAL.

Another child who had safely crossed the creek called 911. “The rescue team arrived just in time,” Evelyn said.
“These kids were very lucky today!” the Raleigh Fire Department posted on X. “Creeks and rivers are high and very dangerous today. Please stay safe, Raleigh!”
As of Thursday night, Raleigh had received 5.35 inches of rain from Debby, with other parts of North Carolina experiencing over a foot of rain, including more than 15 inches in Kings Grant and 11.94 inches in Wilmington.
