BNHA Manga Chapter 256 Theories

In this theory , I’m going to be focusing on individual quirks of the class and how they have improved . 

 If we try breaking down a quirk to how it exactly works , we can understand the special moves even better.  

Aoyama’s quirk is Navel Laser . So , he has the ability to produce light from his body , specifically his navel . So when he was younger , he would have focused on letting the light freely out without any control , but his body couldn’t handle it , thus he needs special equipment . As he grew older , he was able to use his quirk in long beams of light which could destroy robots and such . Later on, his special moves according to wiki is Navel Laser Buffet , where he sends light beams from his shoulders , his hero costume helps him deflect light in separate ways and use it . 

Since he was used to sending light freely , he would have to concentrate on sending the beam in different directions ,when the situation calls for it . He needs to do it rapidly and not let it hold him back . Similarly we saw that he could make his laser so precise that he carved letters. All this time he always focused on lowering the beam of his light , instead of a bright beam to smaller continuous beams .

In this chapter however , he focused on not letting all the beam of light go freely but focus on making a smaller beam but which held more force . He must have used a lot of concentration to ensure the sword stays in place. Similar to putting a cap on an open bottle of water , he held the beam of light from going forward .

Similarly , at first I always knew Tooru’s quirk was invisbility but after seeing her special move during the end of the license exam , I realized what exactly her quirk did . For us to see an object or a human , we need the light to pass through our eyes . Tooru’s quirk ensures that no light passes through anyone’s eyes making her seem  “invisible” . That’s why her special move in the licence arc is light refraction , where she willed her quirk to bend light in such a way to momentarily stun her opponents .

In this chapter , she manages to move Aoyama’s Navel Laser and redirect it .  Here she purposely concentrates on pulling even more light away from a source and redirecting it to her uses . Maybe she is able to to this with similar quirks that  give out some sort of light like Bakugou’s quirk ( Not for long as explosions only give small bursts of light ) , Todoroki’s fire quirk and maybe Deku’s quirk as well ( since he gives out a lot of light , she might be able to pull some of it , though I’m not sure ) .

Ashido’s quirk allows her to shoot corrosive liquid from her body . My theory is that she is able to secrete acid everywhere and shoot it , but prefers to uses her hands and feet . She uses her acid creatively in order to create shields(Acid Veil )   , faster movement ( Acid Layback ),  using it to target opponents ( Acid Shot ) etc .

Similar to how Kirishima focused on hardening his chest and hands ,than rest of his body ( his ultimate move made him harden all parts of his body to his maximum capacity) , Ashido got inspired by Kirishima ‘s moves and realized she could apply the same logic to her quirk as well and created acid which covered her entire body , which was defensive as well as offensive . 

Ojiro and Sato did their work study under the lion hero : shishido . From seeing the name of the hero , he must have had a lion quirk , or strength similar to a lion . As Ojiro and Sato were mainly brawlers , they needed someone to guide them into using their quirks more efficiently . Similar to how a lion stalks his prey and then goes after it , he taught the duo that they should not only fight to counter someone’s attacks , but also fight as rapidly as possible and predict the opponents moves in advance to ensure that their attacks were a critical hit to the opponent . 

Gang Ocra had a varied skill set , he also specializes his moves using his echolocation . Due to his heightened senses , he had learnt how to search opponents and how to detect them before they had attacked them . Jiro and Shoji were known to the class as the duo who was very helpful in detecting enemies and helping the others in advance. Since they never had someone in UA to teach them to use their quirks more efficiently , as no teacher had a quirk similar to theirs , they were mostly self taught . To have a hero similar to their quirks , they were able to learn more things from him to improve the strengths of their quirks . 

Team Lurkers : which consists of Edgeshot , Kamui Woods and Mount Lady , are a powerful trio . Though they had varied quirks , they had to overcome each other’s weaknesses and help in each others strength. They had to move together as one unit to become a powerful team . Kaminari , Mineta and Sero all had different quirks from each other , but by helping each other and making combo moves , they were able to subdue the opponents even faster than if they were supposed to do alone . 

Iida’s movements were to stiff and formal . To ensure that he is able to use his quirk more efficiently, he had to learn to loosen his movements to move with less effort. Since his movements were stiff ,his opponents could overtake him as they were more fluid than him , which would be bad in the long run.

Though Koda was able to communicate with animals , he had to learn to give more efficient commands , that helped him improve the way he used his quirk . 

Tokoyami mostly had to improve his quirk alone , as hawks was not there .

Even though Fatgum didn’t look like he was a good fighter , he uses this to his advantage and overpowers his opponents . From him , Kirishima learnt how to create an image and how to fight efficiently , making villains lose their will to fight .

Uraraka and Asui worked under Ryuuku , who helped them realize that if they were determined enough to defeat their opponent, they would do so . They both were  strong with powerful quirks , but they needed to strength their spirits to be better heroes.

Yaoyorozu did her work study under the Magic hero : Majestic . Based on his hero name , he could have a similar quirk to hers and is able to produce things more efficiently . The problem with Yaoyorozu is she is able to create equipment but she sometimes takes too much time to create what she needs at that moment . By working under majestic , she learnt to predict what she needs in advance and act efficiently.

Chapter 256 quietly broke my heart, guys.

Spoilers after the cut.

Look at this.

They’ve only known each other for what - two years? - and Toshi is already mentally divorcing himself from this relationship. Which was arguably the best thing to ever happen to both of them - the boy called Deku and the hero known as All Might.

I mean, the plot haven’t shown us much of Toshi lately, but it’s clear to me that he’s in a bad place emotionally. Feeling unneeded, feeling left behind by this brilliant boy that he has ceded his precious quirk onto. He clearly thinks there is nothing more he can give him besides that damn notebook that he’s been slavin’ over.

Look at this beautiful, broken, rueful smile. This is the face of someone who gave up. Toshinori Yagi, you idiot. Don’t abandon this kid. He needs you as much as ever. Sure, Endeavor can instruct him how to punch through walls now...but you’re the only one who can show him how to become a hero while remaining human.

We start of the chapter with a wonderful reference to The Terminator. Lovely, fabulous, A+ humour I like. Arnold Schwarzenegger would be proud. can you tell i haven't actually seen any of the terminator movies cause i haven't

NEW MOVES! Hagakure can bend light apparently, which make sense I guess. She invisible and for that to work her body has to be messing with light waves and other physics stuff. Idk, biology is more my forté pretty sure i didn't spell that right

My girl Pinky with the Acid Man. Covering her entire body with acid is a versatile move since she can use as an offensive attack or she can use as a defence to protect herself since anything that comes into contact with her will melt.

Mina then explains that she was inspired to come up with it by Red Riot's Unbreakable. Don't think I don't see what you're doing here Horikoshi. KiriMina is cute but I'm more of a KiriBaku girl myself.

So now all the kids are showing off what they learned from their respective internships and...

All Might is reminiscing on how how far Izuku has come.

But like seriously, Deku is a beast now. Imagine how OP he'll be when he's able to use 100% and unlocks all the other quirks. All he needs is a really fucking good regen quirk and he'll be fine against Shiggy.

And look at Izu's face. He's proud of himself to as he should be. He's come so far. You guys remember when he was this scrawny looking smol ass quirkless kid that would jump if a feather touched him? I sound like an actual mom rn. I need to stop rambling and move on.

Izuku walks over to Ochako and tells her that he got controll of Black Whip and that he's sorry for causing her trouble back during the joint training ark with Class A and B. Ochako is literally like "I don't know why you're apologising for that but check out this cool thing I got."

The IzuOcha is strong with this one. LOOK AT MINETA LOL. He looks so betrayed. Mina looks like kid on Christmas. I swear no one ships these two harder than her. Kami and Tsu are just in the back like "So should we make the wedding arrangements now or...?" Lol. I swear the whole damn class knows at this point but anyway I digress.

So All Might says he recorded the training and that he's gonna show it to Aizawa. And speaking of Aizawa, he and Mic, especially Mic, are not taking the Shiragiri thing well.

Mic says he's pissed and asks Aizawa how he feels about all this bullshit but before Aizawa can answer Mirio and Tamaki walk in and are all like "Somethings up with Eri. You should probably come deal with it."

I just want to say that I think it's absolutely adorable that The Big Three were the ones left to babysit Eri, cause if anyone's capable taking care of a smol babey with enough trauma to last her the rest of her life and then some, it's The Big Three.

Now that we got that out of the way, OMG ERI'S HORN!!!?!?!!!

Not only is it bigger but it's GLOWING?!?!??!? But oh no my baby is crying noooooooo. Dadzawa please help my poor baby she needs help.

Ah. Is that the Death Bell I'm hearing? It's been ringing for a while but it's been pretty fucking loud this chapter.

I wonder what's inside that book. Are we gonna see next chapter? Who knows at this point. I'm implementing my irl rule that I use for literally everything: "If you don't have any expectations then you can't be disappointed"

It's been working pretty well for me so far.

Right so, Eri's horn. Is Aizawa finally gonna teach the smol unicorn how to properly use her quirk w/out killing bitches? Cause that seems like the next obvious step. She could try using her quirk on plants or inanimate objects if they're so worried about the collateral damage.

But hey I'm gonna stick by my rule and not have any expectations.

Some things I noticed during the latest chapter (256)

Finally another things I noticed! It’s been a while - then again, I doubt anyone really missed my rambling. These are a lot of fun to do though, so without further ado - let us begin!

The boyfriends are back! I’m really feeling Tamaki’s outfit in these. Also it’s just great to see them again.

Is it just me or did he actually improve his social anxiety a bit for being able to speak so directly to Aizawa? I mean Mirio is right there, he could also have said nothing and let him do the talking. 

Oh. My. Good! Look at those toys in the background! They’re adorable (and a bit scary). I wonder if this room was made for Eri specifically, I’m not sure if its.... fitting for the students otherwise. Can I also just say that I really like the big three basically having adopted Eri as well? It’s cute.

Dadzawa has returned.

On a very different note! Mina! Ew! But also yey! It’s a cool special move, but also looks disgusting. And poor Aoyama still gets hurt by his own quirk.

But he too came up with a new move! Well done!

Also can we just appreciate this panel below? Is Sato drooling? Did he make the cotton candy? Why does Toky look so adorable here? Didn’t Sero get one too? 

We also get more confirmation that Hagakure’s quirk isn’t actually invisibility, but light manipulation. Also how can she look so badass with just... gloves? 

Do you know what is something that I never understood? How tf she placed above Izuku in that first quirk sports test Aizawa put them through. Because I do not see how her quirk helped her at all with any of the tasks and we know from later on (a panel where she trains) that she is not very physically fit. Izuku on the other hand had trained hours on end before entering UA and was in top physical condition + he at least once scored very high with the ball throwing. So how on earth did he score below her???? (yeah plot, of course, but come one!)

Isn’t her acid like... dangerous? Shoudl she just shake it all over the place? Also Toruu and her wild gesticulation is a mood. Poor Aoyama though.

Look at Mina’s lil tongue. Look at how Kiri is about to burst with happiness. Look how dumbfounded he is at first. I love their friendship so much!

Supportive Iida is supportive! Also I love hearing about who they interned with (though I wished we actually... you know... had seen some of it?). Also Momo looks so majestic in her cloak. Might I also draw your attention to the fact that we do not see Toky in this? He’s supposed to be standing somewhere between Satou and Denki afterall. Maybe he was further to the back, but still, wouldn’t we be able to see some of his head at least? Unless, that is, he’s actually too small.

Is that DYNAMITE??? Also yes Majestic indeed!

Wait did Ojirou change up his hero outfir abit? I don’t think those gloves were there before, were they? I am so happy to see my tail boy again, it’s been so long. Also that pro hero looks fierce af!

I love that Koda actually got one of the top-tier internships, but he and wash? How on earth did they even communicate at all?

Yes! Gang Orca is back! And Jirou and Shouji together? Amazing! I never imagined them being friends much but now I find I actually really, really like the idea.

Kiri I love you and your ridiculous teeth too much for my own good. And I’m so glad he got to intern with Fat again!

BNH-Aaaaaaaah™ pt. 1

I'm a slut for Hori making me suffer so I read the leaked summary for Chapter 256 and guys, I don't have a good feeling about what's to come

Like, the Internship With Endeavor™ went over really quick and left us hanging in the air about Dabi=Touya? and then it jumps to New Years and I thought it's class 1A time again, but then it suddenly takes a really dark turn into Kurogiri being Shirakumo and Nomu creation and Aizawa and Mic in total distress and we even get a look at what Tomu is going through AND THEN IT JUST JUMPS BACK TO THE KIDS AGAIN?

And according to the leaks they all made really great progress during their internships and got some cool new moves and idk it's a lot all of a sudden and then Eri comes in and says her horn started hurting and to me it looks like a lot of stuff is piling on top of each other to build tension and I'm so here for it but also pls Hori let my children be happy

(I also bet he's trying to sync up the big Tomu transformation reveal (which supposedly is in April in in-universe-time) with our real life April bc he loves Drama™)

BnHA Chapter 256: Fucking Superb You Funky Little Hero Eggs

Previously on BnHA: Aizawa and Mic’s frankensteined best friend Shirakumo, better known to us as Kurogiri, had his memories briefly restored through the Power of Friendship, and was all “YO Y’ALLS BETTER GO CHECK OUT THOSE HOSPITALS” before his head started steaming like a tea kettle and he randomly fell asleep. Aizawa and Mic were all “!!” and Aizawa was all “(ಡ ﹏ ಡ)” and Mic was all “Aizawa are you crying” and Aizawa was like “NO!!!” and then they left the prison and Nao called HPSC Lady who called Hawks and was all “eck-chay ethay ospitals-hay” because Hawks, as you recall, is still a secret agent and all that. Anyway so Hawks was all “EUREKA!!” in his head which doesn’t really add up but hey, and then the chapter ended with Dr. Ujiko dancing in sadistic glee as he watched Tomura get all mad scienced. It was pretty freaky. I could use some wholesomeness right about now so let’s see if this chapter will deliver.

Today on BnHA: Class 1-A shows off the fresh skills they learned during their assorted internships, such as “determination”, “enhanced search techniques”, and “becoming a literal blob of acid.” The Wonder Trio is a particular highlight, and All Might is all “my little baby off to destroy people :’)” as he watches Deku shred a robot to pieces using Blackwhip. We then cut to Aizawa and Mic, who may or may not be planning some rogue vigilante style investigations of the whole Noumu thing, or maybe they’re just brooding, but either way they’re interrupted by Mirio and Tamaki who come running in to get them to stop Eri’s quirk from going haywire, which, yikes. The chapter then ends with All Might handing Deku a notebook full of DETAILED, CATALOGED INFO ABOUT THE PAST SUCCESSORS AND THE FUCKING SIXQUIRKS. We just have to wait two more weeks to find out what that’s all about. 2020’s got some fucking zip to it so far huh.

so it’s about a quarter past 7 right now and it’ll be a miracle if I can have this recap up by 10pm tonight. surprisingly the wait for this chapter didn’t really bother me, but this Sunday/Monday release schedule is really doing a number on my punctuality. but anyways we’ll figure it out eventually. if memory serves, there’s about a 90% chance that this week’s jump will also be a double issue, so that gives me another extra week to get my shit together lol

(ETA: so that wasn’t too far off actually! I think a three-hour turnaround time isn’t bad for 3000 words lol. and actually it was more like two hours of reading/blogging and one hour of editing/photo cropping. anyway so in all likelihood either Sunday or Monday night releases will become the norm, depending entirely on how busy that particular Sunday is. not quite the same as getting the chapter on Friday and having the whole weekend to ruminate over it but we will adjust!)

anyway, so I’m somehow remarkably unspoiled for this chapter despite it having been out for nearly a week and a half at this point. so that’s something! let’s see what we’ve got here

anyways so Iida as we all recall learned how to be more footloose and fancy free, and meanwhile Kouda learned “smooth communication” from Wash, the literal washing machine man whom I also don’t still harbor a grudge against for inexplicably beating my dragon queen in the hero polls, and once again that is a lie because fuck you Wash! you’re adorable but fuck you!!

man this is taking forever why are there so many kids in this class. for anyone wondering why Horikoshi doesn’t focus on class 1-A as a whole more often and leaves them as supporting characters, this right here is why. I love these children to death but we would still be stuck in the basement arc. oh my god I just shuddered

Tokoyami mastered “improvement on all fronts” because I guess he kind of peaked at flying when it came to new moves huh. that’s fine for now
