Okay so I'm watching the first episode and 2 minutes in we have I presume one of the girls in a very messy room while her mom chews her out over how messy it is and 2 minutes in she's doing these big studio ghibli style tears.

I heard this was the "cute girls crying anime" so I guess it's true?

okay she's apparently trying to do something with her life before she graduates high school. She's a goody two shoes and can't convince herself to break the rules to do something like visit Tokyo though.

Her fear of not doing anything but also being scared of failure is awfully relatable.

12 minutes in and we got more crying. another girl lost a million yen and just got it back from our protagonist. Oh this girl is the one who has the missing mom? She's a cashier like me too. Relatable.

Okay Antarctica girl getting bullied.

Main girl, Mari, is apparently the same english VA as Inutade from DunMeshi. And one of the girls from BNAnimals!! Ha! I knew I recognized her voice from somewhere. I like BNAnimals.

oh ending credits. just two girls traveling via train and being cute.

For a first episode, it establishes Mari pretty well as a character and pushes her into a new world through the Antarctica girl who is the one with the MIA mom. I was gonna say the animation is cute but the last few seconds have the creepiest :3 faces on the girls like

wtf I hate it okay

but it was just like? okay? nothing particularly attention grabbing as far as a narrative hook yet. I have yet to see why LO praises the show so highly (as in, haven't watched her video). I'm still primarily watching because she compares the bath scenes between here and dunmeshi and I've already done a breakdown on why while the dunmeshi anime does take one specific scene/pose and make it. Awkward. It's very generally a needed narrative beat as well as important character development for Falin, who gets precious little as is.

I am tempted to actually watch this Antarctica show and see what it's actually about.
