That's when Shirou smelt you were a human.

He wanted to stay FAARRRRRR away.

However the mayor told him to take care of you until she can arrange someone to give you to.

Now there you are, a human.

A human sitting in HIS room.

Shirou is PISSED, he does not want a human in his room, on his sofa.

Shirou most likely wanted to kick you out.

You kept touching things, leaving your scent all over.

He was starting to get irritated.

Just when all hope was lost.

Kuro flew over to you

Shirou was going to try and stop you from hurting him (he assumed you would).

Yet, you started petting kuro.

Taking care of the crow.

From that day forth he decided you weren't so bad.

After that, he probably didn't give you such a hard time

Maybe like an older brother, irritated by you. But also protective

Since you are a human child

Shirou has to take care of you, if you go outside in public

Because as you know, people can smell if you are or aren't a Beastman.

So he rarely takes you off to the city

When Shirou does, he going to take you to a local baseball game.

He really does enjoy spending time with you.

And over 2 months, he grew to love you.

He knew it was going to end, you had to find your parents.

Live amongst your own species.

And he got a call. To bring you to the mayor.

And there he had to say goodbye forever.

Hello, how are you? By any chance, do you create headcanons for Brand New Animal (BNA)?

Hello, I am doing alright! How are you?

And I thank you for sending this in. Also, so sorry this took a bit to write; I didn’t check my Tumblr for awhile. But I was so happy when I saw it!

So, yes, I do. But I haven’t written any headcanons in a hot minute.

Some headcanons are a bit angsty, but there are sweet ones, and inbetweens.

There are not a lot, so, sorry about that.

Shiro Ogami:

- I get the feeling that he visited the Black Market a couple times, just to see if any Beastman related stuff was possibly being sold.

- He wants to take revenge on humans, but knows that won’t do anything, so he just sticks/stook to saving Breastman.

- But if there is/was humans involved in any cruel act against them, he will use violence.

Nazuna Hiwatashi:

- She felt outcasted when she transformed, and since she also wanted to be an idol she jumped at the first opportunity to continue her goal, and in time gained her confidence back.

- It’s easy to mess with her head and lie/manipulate to her, but Michuri is one of possibly few that doesn’t do that to her.

- I feel like that’s also why Nazuna tends to push her away and then run towards her again throughout the series.

Michiru Kagemori:

- It’s mentioned briefly in the first episode that she had trouble sleeping before she came to Anima City.

- Because of that, I believe she had really bad depressive episodes when she transformed, of course affecting her sleep.

- But Nazuna’s “kidnapping” was the event that raised her depression and anxiety.

- Both inevitably leading to a short period of self-isolation.

- She is terrible at giving nicknames.

- Nazuna probably ends up giving her suggestions for nicknames after Michiru gives up on it after all of them were rejected.

- Michiru’s parents wanted her to be as involved in many things as possible growing up, leading her to be very extroverted and athletic, also giving her the love for basketball.

- She fears not being able to help others, and losing people, especially ones she holds dear.

Marie Itami:

- I’m pretty sure either Shiro, Mayor B. Rose, or both, are preventing her arrest solely because she brings other Breastmen to Anima City…

- She’s an info. broker. You can not convince me otherwise.

- I feel like she used to sell stuff at the Black Market, too. Possibly where she met Shiro, but didn’t get the idea to go to Anima City likely until years later.

AAAA I LOVE IT SO MUCH ╮(￣▽￣"")╭ I love love LOVE the aesthetics SOOO MUCH ,,,, i mean look at them ☆*:.｡. o(≧▽≦)o .｡.:*☆

I love the character design and the characters over all, even tho their extreme traits can be a bit exhausting (looking at michirus stubbornness) TT. Also nazunas dismissiveness of michiru’s attempts to help her made me a bit sad, ik that she didnt ask her for it but stiiilll (*´◒`*) At one point I was really pissed at the whole anime; when sylvasta fooled michiru and nazuna AND the mayor. I cant rlly blame nazuna and michiru bc theyre naive and young ig (although i mean… come on) but THE MAYOR?! Anyways I was frustrated because i wasnt sure if the story was going to pursue the “big corporations are actually your friend and youre crazy for thinking that theyre bad guys” propaganda because they genuinely all turned on shirou and acted as if he was crazy (╯°□°）╯︵ ┻━┻

Anyways I still have one episode left so I hope they dont all die or something (˶‾᷄ ⁻̫ ‾᷅˵)

BNA: Brand New Animal

i remember BNA getting so hyped up and now i only see it because people do fanart of the characters for their designs without any mention of the plot. but to this day the plot sticks with me, cause whatever expectation i could've had for it, i did not think my main takeaway would be

cool premise, shame that they tried doing an eugenics plotline and totally fumbled it into agreeing with eugenicists' worldview

and i wonder if that's most other people's reasons for not really caring about the media itself anymore. or maybe it's just a broader sense of "it was mid" without thinking about exactly why they found it mid. or maybe no one cared about it except for the character designs and visuals in the first place idk

i still think about it from time to time cause i could so easily imagine a version of this show that doesn't fumble it so badly. and it's where i expected the plot to be going for a while. there was a big evil corpo pulling strings, and they were claiming some people are inherently more violent and they have the cure. and it turns out they were infecting people deliberately to make more of that violence happen. so clearly, those people aren't inherently violent and the corpo was just trying to exploit a marginalized group for profit, right? haha you'd think, but no. cause they made the city mayor (who's explicitly mentioned as a holocaust survivor) say "i hate to admit it but theyre right..... animal people crowded together are scientifically proven to become violent" and they like. say it's bad to use that as an excuse to hurt them and in the end they make a medicine to cure the violence and theyre all happy. but they go about it in such a fucked way; "the eugenicists are meanies and we shouldnt do what they say! but yea in this world lets just say theyre correct"

i didn't think it was possible to fumble this theme worse than zootopia but hey they found a way somehow

BNA tickling headcanons

So this post is going to consist of every major character besides Alan, Boris, and Mayor Rose. Even a few minor characters, too!

(Please, PLEASE don't confuse this for BNHA, I have not watched it, and only found out what it meant a few days ago.)

Without further ado,

Michiru:

The biggest Ler of the crew.

Especially helped by her claws.

She *loves* dragging them slowly around to tease her Lees.

Coincidentally, she's the most ticklish of the crew, too.

Nazuna used to be the most ticklish, but once they became beastmen, Michiru just became that much more sensitive.

Her most ticklish spot is her ribs. Gently tickling her from her sides all the way up just demolishes her.

Shirou:

He tends to not get involved in the "ticklish shenanigans" Michiru and Nazuna get caught up in.

But when he does, he's not that bad a Ler.

Usually it's just giving Michiru some soft tickles.

Usually only happens when Rose says she needs to be "punished somehow".

He is... not ticklish.

Well, maybe a little bit behind the ears when he's in his beastman form.

Michiru likes to scratch him there like the good boy he is.

Nazuna:

The most teasey Ler of the bunch.

She loves watching her Lees squirm, then tease them for how squirmy they are.

Usually the winner of most of her and Michiru's tickle fights.

But by a very small margin.

She used to be the most ticklish of the duo when they were humans.

The beastman transformation effected Michiru's sensitivity more than Nazuna's.

Not to say she's not still ticklish. She's still as ticklish as ever.

Her worst spot is her feet. It's the reason she wears such thick socks.

She made the mistake of getting toeless ones though. She pays the price for it severely, though, during tickle fights.

She doesn't like to tell anyone, but she actually likes being tickled.

Marie:

She used to rarely tickle anyone. She didn't even know what the word meant until Michiru told her.

Now she does it relentlessly, especially after she found out Nazuna likes it.

But she doesn't prolong it. She's quick with her tickling. Some heavy pokes/drags in or near your death spot, over in about 30 seconds.

She's rarely the Lee, but she's most ticklish on her neck.

(I don't have anymore Lee!Marie headcanons lol)

Nina:

Extremely playful Ler.

When she finds out you're ticklish, she occasionally does some light tickling.

Nothing too much. Maybe some light side taps.

She's pretty ticklish though.

Her worst spot is her belly. She can't handle it there, but she still tries to get some tickles there occasionally.

Also, in her beastman form, her fins are actually pretty ticklish.

Jackie:

Tickling is actually a pretty big thing within the Bears Baseball team.

(That's something Michiru learned the hard way)

They do it all the time, after training, during victory celebrations, or just in general hangouts.

And of course, the most proficient Ler is Jackie.

She's extremely small, so she can just climb on you and go ham.

She's just about a walking tickle spot, everywhere on her is extremely ticklish.

Sure, could never hurt. Here's a snippet from a slightly older BNA WIP that I do intend to finish.

"After hearing the waiter leave Michiru decides to ask something that Nazuna knew she was going to mention. “So, heard they’ve been pumping you full of all the shots. How’s that been?”

Nazuna loudly groaned at the question “UUGGHH! It’s been horrible, I know everybody thinks foxes have horrible immune systems but now every time, AND I MEAN EVERY SINGLE TIME, I get a cold I practically have to get disinfected from ear to claw…” Nazuna pauses, attempting to recollect herself and control her volume so as not to explode with the pent-up emotions from since she became a beastman.

“Not even when I was going by Dessue Louve I could escape it, Boris made sure I was always getting my shots when I was supposed to and also stayed clear of me whenever I got sick…I never got why he did that until you basically slapped me back to reality-”

“It was a very good slap,” Michiru cut in with a smug nod of her head and a little too much joy in her voice.

“Thanks for your oh-so-important input, Michiru. As I was saying, remember after the Nirvasyl Syndrome outbreak and we had that talk with Mayor Rose and she explained your whole eye situation. She also told me about how people think foxes are disease-ridden.” Nazuna paused again to collect her thoughts “Apparently since feral foxes get rabies and shit, people think beastman foxes have shit immune systems and are gonna spread face-rot-off-your-skull disease. So they insist we get vaccinated for literally everything,” Nazuna leaned forwards and rubbed her temple with a sigh. “Now I get why they wanted me to pretend to be a wolf.”

“I see you’re suffering,” Michiru once again began with her well-worn puns. “But it appears this is all just the consequence of being a shining star~.”

“Have you ever heard of the peanut butter shot?” Nazuna leaned forward speaking with such emphasis Michiru could have sworn she was speaking about Alan and Boris again.

“Can’t say I’ve seen any reference to it?” Michiru hummed. 

“Imagine having a tablespoon of peanut butter injected into your butt cheek which then forms a massive lump that is so painful you can’t sit down for the next like three hours,” Nazuna explained with only the emphasis and seriousness of a serial killer. “It’s meant to help your immune system and I have had three of them in the last two years. I swear if anyone even hints at giving me another one I will show them the true meaning of rabid...”

Nazuna quickly silenced herself and regained her composure as the waiter returned, gently placing down the second menu to replace Michiru’s original."

just finished watching the new netflix anime BNA (brand new animal).

wanna give it a review. SPOILERS AHEAD. (also im bad at spelling Japanese names because of my dyslexia so ill be referring to their characters mainly by their titles)

things i liked:

lesbian undertones

dont trust pharmaceutical companies

the real evil in this world are rich white guys

wolf guy had big dad energy

animation was charming

nina was adorable

some cool biopunk elements

themes of erasing identities for the sake of calm

athletic female protagonist was not sexualized

equality should not mean sameness

cute furries

things that could have been improved:

the ending made no sense at all

it was obvious that alan was the villain all along but the pureblood wolf thing came literally out of left field. there was no buildup at all. no mention of beastman species only marrying each other and the politics therein.

and the solution to this plothole could have been sooooo easy.

have “pureblood” beastmen be high members of society or something. like the malfoy family in harry potter. have it be an actual plotpoint. instead of the entire series being beastmen vs humans up until the final episode.

or have pureblood beastmen be ones with no human ancestry. the same themes apply.

also if alan really was immortal, then a better story would have him as the actual general of the army that wolf boy fought. that would have really clinched the dynamic between them.

the biopunk elements needed to take center stage

some of this may just be my personal taste towards scifi vs fantasy, but i felt like their was a lot of buildup towards a story about genetics and equality that never really went anywhere.

take the scene where rhino guy goes completely bonkers. i thought for sure that it was from him being injected with something by the masked snake guy. that maybe it was some kind of drug to make beastman DNA go completely haywire. i was actually digging his crazy transformation a lot.

but then they go and explain that its some kind of syndrome that beastmen get by being in close quarters?

that felt both like weak writing and a bit ableist.

a better solution would be to have it be an experimental drug that the pharmaceutical company developed and was using the beastman city as a testing ground.

or if it needs to stay connected to the past, perhaps the compound that causes the reaction was found in the environment of wolf boy’s ancient european city. the human army witnessed the beastman transformations and recorded it. eventually alan’s family found why it happened via science and made it into a drug.  

the role of women in the city

the episode with the orphaned kids and grand grandma honestly was a bit of a waste for two reasons.

the first is the very human-centered idea that animals are sexist the way humans are. this is incorrect.

quite a few species are matriarchal. like elephants. or they have no hierarchy at all.

the fact that a lioness was being told she was weak for being female fucking blew my mind. have you ever seen a lion pride? females bring home the food and the males look after the cubs.

the second reason is that, even if you ignore the lack of basic understanding about animal societies, the sexism trope didn’t go anywhere.

we never see any other cases of women being treated badly outside of that episode.

the mayor is never belittled and one of the strongest baseball teams in the city is made of female pink flamingos.

don’t spend a whole episode trying to establish something in the world-building and then don’t use it again.

the mayor’s past as a holocaust survivor should have had more plot importance

maybe this is just me speaking as both a jew and a gay, but i really didn't like that the holocaust was used as just a backstory for how the mayor and wolf boy met.

i was really hoping to find out that there was connection to the pharmaceutical company and the cruel medical experiments that were done in the camps. as many scientific breakthroughs can trace their origins to horrible human experimentation done at the hands of fascist governments.

it also would have cemented alan as personal villain to both wolf boy and the mayor.

how magic works

they did not need to explain everything, but maybe a little explanation here and there could have really made the story clearer.

for example, when tanuki girl arrives in the city she learns about how magic is something that can be found in beastmen blood but it is very rare and species dependent. so tanukis and foxes have a much higher chance to do magic than other species (like japanese folklore). they can change their tails to do basic shape-shifting.

it also would explain how wolf boy became immmortal. since he bathed in the blood of his fallen clan and absorbed all their magic.

alan’s identity as a beastman

honestly i could write a whole post about him but ill just keep it to the basics.

alan should not have been a beastman. he should have been a human.

because making him a beastman took away the themes of oppression in the story.

alan was a rich, white human man who did not care for the lives of others (human or beastman) and was happy to use them as pawns and test subjects. not to mention his family most likely had ties to the nazis.  

his particular hatred for beastmen could have come from the killing of his ancestor’s army by wolf boy. leading the family to want revenge on all beastmen and the silver wolf in particular.

that is a realistic villain and one that the audience is happy to see defeated.

how fox girl and tanuki girl becam beastmen

i think that them changing into beastmen should have been intentionally done by the pharmaceutical company, not as an accident via hospital embezzlement

two girls badly hurt in a bus crash would have been easy targets to inject an experimental serum. one that was designed to change a human into a beastman so that the company could learn how to reverse it and make all beastmen into humans.

fox girl exhibited symptoms first and was grabbed by big pharma to use as a pawn.

tanuki girl was a spare who eventually disappeared from their radar and then reappeared in the beastman city.

i think that the embezzlement story could still have happened, but the effects were worse. beastman blood sold to the highest bidder, which turned out to be the pharmaceutical company itself and its illegal experiments.

tanuki and fox beastman blood could have been chosen specifically because of their ties to magic as well. which allows for their shape-shifting.

snake guy and his mask

i think that snake guy should have been one of the first beastmen experimented on by the company.

the results left him scarred and stuck between his two forms. but because he was brainwashed by the company, he gladly serves them.
