the randomest little be more chill rant that nobody asked for- both musical and book spoilers
not anything wrong with either of these, just mad at a character and I WANT TO CRUSH HER UNDER MY HEEL I ALSO WANT TO CRUSH THAT STUPID COMPUTER PILL.
read if you want?? Idk if you wanna sooo you dont have to
⚠️TW⚠️- sensitive topics such sexual harassment, drug use, and more relating to these
alright im not explaining anything and i assume you have read or watched bmc if you are reading this
i am going to be talking about the scene/song 'Do You Wanna Hang". (a very disturbing song for me, which most definitely implied S/A)
ehem. JEREMY IS NOT AT FAULT HERE. AND NO IM NOT BEING BIASED BECAUSE HE'S MY FAVORITE.
but genuinley. people could say it's Chloe's fault-- but that is more in the book, which i will talk about in a minute. It could be Chloe's fault in the musical, but she was also drunk off her mind and did not consent either. IN THE MUSICAL, THE FAULT IS ON THE SQUIP. it kept jeremy in that situation in both pieces of media, against his will, and if it weren't for Jake finding them, that situation would be horrifying. And because of the squip controlling jeremy, jeremy would be at fault for (yk)ing Chloe while she was drunk, therefore cheating on Brooke.
and so yesterday i finished the musical. i am still thinking about this song, and i go to the song on yt to see what others think about it.
dear the people, THIS IS NOT LIKE 'SAY NO TO THIS' FROM HAMILTON. ALEXANDER WAS FULLY IN CONTROL OF HIMSELF. MARIA (marie? idk) WAS NOT DRUNK.
as that one person on the reddit article said, this is much more like Blue or Your Welcome from Heathers. a very disturbing song portraying a strong message when characters were not in control of themselves, leading to messed up situations.
it is nothing like Say No to This.
(dear fanfic authors who make Jeremy and Chloe friends, this situation had not been resolved. you better have made a good side plot for this <3)
AND NOW FOR MY BOOK RAnT (there are many differences between the book and the musical, i prefer some things in each over others for reasons.)
a little bit of this info may be wrong, because i read the book a month or so ago. correct me if i AM wrong.
At some point when Jeremy was first in the party, chloe of course found him since they had agreed to meet up at the party in the book. (also, brooke and jeremy were never dating book wise) chloe gave him a mystery drug, and just told him to take it. CHLOE. LOOK AT ME. WHY. he takes it, and of course the squip is turned off now.
SO CHLOE HAS GIVEN HIM THIS STRONG DRUG, TAKES ONE HERSELF, AND TAKES HIM DOWN INTO THE BASEMENT.
you can see the problems with this.
in the book, this is chloes fault. she took advantage of jeremy for her own pleasure.
i dont think jeremy had consented to this in the book. (again i might be wrong)
and of course, Jake catches this in the act
we continue the book without uncovering this again, as they did in the musical
but yes that is the end of my rant.
i still dont like chloe

You! I want you to rant to me about your favorite bmc song >:)
Oh no problem!
I really like the play. I like how it starts out with mostly talking and slowly ramps up into singing I love when musicals do that shit as well as the fact that it starts out with normal instruments like guitar and keyboard and then as soon as Jeremy realizes what’s going on the synthesizer takes over it’s a really good way to convey what’s going on just through the music not to mention the fact that it calls back to the opening theme of the musical.
Also I like how interesting it is that the squips had the Mountain Dew red, implying they’ve been around since before the 1990s which brings up a lot of questions but I digress I also love how when Jeremy realizes that’s exactly why the squip had him cut Michael off. It’s super subtle in the music but the way he starts panicking to call Michael is fantastic acting by both will Roland and will Connolly both versions are fantastic for different reasons. Personally I prefer the will Connolly version but both are really good.
Not to mention the fact that they used Michael in the bathroom but this time in a triumphant tone instead of the sad one for Michael makes an entrance. Mwah. Fantastic. Also it’s super cute how Jeremy is touched by Michael coming to see him in the play. The conversation that Jeremy and Michael have while fighting just feels super good cause it feels like something both boys needed to get off their chests. Its also super funny how Jake is chill with holding down Jeremy with no explanation. Honestly it sounds like a teenage boy. Not to mention the callback to upgrade, do you want a ride/do you want to hang. I like how creepy the actresses made it. Twins in the shining vibe. Not to mention both boys cringing when the two made up.
Then the callback to two player game is fantastic. And then the fact that Jenna is considered the final boss. Then the callback to the guy I’d kinda be into.
I also love the fact that Jeremy gives the drink to Christine and isn’t even sure it’ll shut down his own but wants to fix it for her since he brought her into this mess.
And my favorite part is probably Michael screaming with everyone else because who the hell wouldn’t? XD
The fact that the soundtrack also sounds a lot of synthesizer sounds when the squip is being shut down as well as adding the glitching and different sounds of it is amazing and really sells it for me.
Yeah that’s my rant hope you enjoyed XD

Tired of how much people mischaracterize Michael by making him the most depressed, self hating mf ever. Have you...not paid attention to the show? Michael in the bathroom hits so hard because that's. Not like him. It's not a common occurrence. That's why it has such an impact!! It's so out of character for Michael, the goofy, fun, supportive, dorky best friend, Michael who has so much confidence that he doesn't even care about "embarrassing" himself by doing stuff like dancing and Vibing to music in the halls, or wearing a literal pride patch and making himself a target for homophobia, Michael who literally giggles at the "Boyf Riends" bullying attempt by Rich, to have such a downer moment, to literally have a panic attack in a bathroom, to self loathe and speak badly about himself, to overthink everything, to BLAME HIMSELF for someone else's actions, that's NOT the Michael we're shown for the rest of the show!! His character is much more deep and impactful once you learn to notice/accept that!!

First time drawing Jeremy and Michael NDNNDND
Their character designs make me so happy and I cannot explain why.
I just rly love that they both have extremely similar interests but kinda opposite clothing styles, personalities, and are like on the opposite ends of the confidence spectrum.
Hyperfix rant below about character design lmao:
Their costume design is especially interesting to me because it shows off their duality as friends a lot.
Michael has a ton of pins and patches on his hoodie to show off his interests, no matter how "geeky" because he doesn't care what other people think about it and he's going to be himself no matter what opinions people have about it. His hoodie is also red, a very loud color that draws attention and shows off his confidence.
Jeremy's outfit in comparison is very bland and reserved. Just from his outfit alone you can't really get a handle on what he likes the way you can with Michael. His cardigan is blue, not only a visual contrast to Michael's red, but blue is also generally considered the most pleasing and well liked color, hinting towards Jeremy's entire motivation in the musical: wanting to be liked/accepted by others, including himself.
This also lends visual credibility to Jeremy's whole "I'm not the one who the story's about" angle. Jeremy's outfit and color scheme doesn't really stand out when compared to a lot of the other characters in the musical. Hell, when you look at both Jeremy and Michael next to each other, Michael looks more like a protagonist than Jeremy does via visual design and body language alone.
Tldr: Jeremy and Michael's visual designs are very smart and I love them dearly okay bye NSNND.

Eugahsgshy I love noticing small differences in the bway and tr versions of bmc songs…
Michaels little chuckle after “you look like ass? What’s wrong?” In the bway version..
the fact that it says “Pac-Man tattooD” instead of just “Pac-Man tattoo”
THE WAY WILL ROL SINGS “CHRISTINE” IN MTS..
The length of the last “survive” in mts while everyone else is singing “nanana”
CHRISTINES “because it’s the BEST!! ….because it is fun-“
THE WAY CHRISTINE SAYS “I LOVE PLAY REHERSAL” LIKE THE KOOL-AID MAN
The way Rich sings “squip” for the second-to-last squip in the squip song
I’m like 99% sure in dywr when Chloe joins in the tempo is faster in the bway vers than the tr vers
“Everything about you is so terrible” “terrible?” “Terrible.” “Aw :(“
EUAGH THE LINE CHANGE FROM “HEAD TO DRAMA PRACTICE” TO “HEAD TO PLAY REHEARSAL” I LOVE THEM :(((
RICH SAYING “OW” AFTER HIS VERSE IN HALLOWEEN
THE FACT THAT GEORGE BREATHES BEFORE THE LAST “BATHROOM” IN MITB..
Just the way that Chloe and Jenna say “No I’m not.” “Yeah I know 😒”
“Excuse me? What the frick is that?” “Uhh.. a super computer from Japan that can solve all your problems? Oh- and Mountain Dew-“
AND THE LINE CHANGE FROM “LUNCH? JUST THE TWO OF US?” TO “BOLWING ALLY PERFORMANCE ARTS? JUST THE TWO OF US?” UAAA IT SHOWS THAT JEREMY ACTUALLY LISTENS TO CHRISTINE :(((

I finally built up the courage to make a post myself so here we go 🤪
But in the bmc fandom no one can agree on rich’s real personality. Is he over the top chaos? Is he soft and calm? Well i pulled up my english analysis skills and decided to english analysis the SQUIP song and give you some unnecessary essay
Alright before we get into the analysis, i want to mention that i believe rich was abused by his dad growing up as he drinks and it seems stereotypical for the bully character to have a bad home life and we all know the bmc characters are built on stereotypes. Now according to a google search teachers are told to look out for things like bad hygiene, back chat, aggression as they can be indications of abuse/neglect
When listening to the squip song i felt like some of it was the squip trying to relate to Jeremy’s problems. We do even see the SQUIP do this in the broadway version by getting Jeremy to tell rich his dad drinks. So some of the lines you got to take with a pinch of salt as it can just be the squip trying to relate
On that note
Freshman year didnt have a girlfriend or a clue i was a looser just like you
This is not too relevant to rich’s character and seems to be going off of what Jeremy was singing in More Than Survive. The squip just saw him sign up for the play and interact with Christine. So to immediately open with this line makes it seem less personal to Rich and more trying to appeal to Jeremy
Good times would only sour by
This however is Rich. Jeremy actually doesn’t want to be popular, he enjoys Michael company. He gets the SQUIP to not be a total loser cause he wants to avoid ridicule. so right now i can infer that rich probably didn’t have any or many friends. We was probably desperate to be included and join in on teenage good times.
I was gross
As i mentioned at the top, i believe rich was abused so i feel like this may be a nod to that.
As every female would detest my sexting was a futile quest
This is one of the most important lines. As earlier on its says he is gross with no friends so how is he even managing to get girls numbers? This may be a leap but call me the doodle jump guy thing but i feel like rich was very funny. He was probably the type of guy to talk back to teachers and when kids are picking fun of him he probably made jokes about himself to try and join in on the fun. While that didn’t get him friends it probably got him a few nice or insecure girls (brook??) but he was too awkard or nerdy or too… sexual to get anywhere with them
Furthermore
The squip does not completely change your personality
Atleast what we see through Jeremy is that the squip just hides your flaws and plays up your strengths. Like Jeremy did remain somewhat awkard and geeky; crying about eminem, being a robot to the halloween party etc
So we can look at how rich acts with the squid which will reveal how he was before
Rich is the funny guy in the popular kid circle, hes the one shouting GAY and picking on kids and messing with jenna. More evidence for funny guy rich.
BUT that would suggest that rich probably always had a bit of a violent streak-
All characters have flaws and rich was that he probably was quick to hop on to picking on kids on the same level as the high school food chain as him in hopes of getting friends and boosting his status. Definitely not to the extent he would now cause he was probably too weak but he definitely wasn’t nice at least verbally when it suited him.
This probably was his downfall really as if he was nicer to the losers he probably would of been friends with them
Now rich is my fav character as you could prolly guess and i don’t really like the idea of rich being a meanie without the squip SO
We could go for a nice little alternative and say that he would fight with kids picking on him. Maybe he had mad reflexes from his abusive dad and would smack up kids who touch him or do that think fast thing or something :)
Anyways i think i had more to go on about but this is pretty waffle already and i can’t really remember. If you guys have your own ideas on ANY of the characters reply i would love to read them :D

RANT ON THE BOYF RIENDS BECAUSE I'M A WEIRDO LOL (Warning: RIDICULOUSLY LONG!)
I saw someone say something along the lines of "Boyf Riends just doesn't work on (the) Broadway (production)" so I'm now gonna rant about it cause I'm a weirdo and I love be more chill (Context, this was under a video with a whole bunch of drawings of Michael and Jeremy in different productions, so played by different actors! Someone commented "Someone should add Broadway" and the op replied with the line I first mentioned, no hate to this person, I'm just being a nerd, also if they see this, your art was amazing and I have nothing against you!!) But anyways this just set me off not a whole tageant about their dynamic, so be prepared for that!
So side note before I start ranting, I'm not saying this in a "Die-hard Boyf Riends shipper" way or something, more in a "the thing this person says makes no apparent sense (at least to me rn)" , also if you want to discuss this feel free to DM me and I'll happily hear you out, I might change my mind about this if someone gives me a good argument, who knows! I'm more than down to discussing this
So anyways, this point just doesn't make sense because of one simple thing: The show's plot and main story points don't change from one production to another. Sure, some details or even dialogue, might change! Hell, the addition of LGW in the Broadway/off-Broadway (?) Run gave as a totally different point of view into Jeremy's character and motivations! But that doesn't change the WHOLE story or the entirety of the perception x person may have on said main character. This just lets us dig a bit deeper into Jeremy's character and how he feels in the moment of making this huge decision of (basically) dumping Michael.
So into why Boyf Riends does/doesn't "work" (work meaning in this context that they fit together, or are fit for each other to put it some way)
I have to start off this by saying that their romantic relationship would not be the healthiest one to say the least. Like you can see this in the platonic relationship they have in the show! And, man, of course it won't be, they're 16! They do not know enough about relationships, neither platonic, romantic or anything in between. Not to say their relationship would be toxic! They just have some codependency issues to work through, because it may not be that apparent but they are, in fact, co-dependent to each other in some ways! They care A LOT about the other's opinion and what they would do in their place, this is shown more from Jeremy's side (probably because we're seeing the story though his lense) than Michael's, we can see this in MITB mainly, whole he's essentially having the breakdown of his life, and we aren't able to see that much of his concern for whether Jeremy likes him or not because he's so okay with himself, he doesn't care what other people think, he wouldn't change for anyone! Which is also why MITB is such an important arc to Michael, because we see that he's not perfectly 100% confident, he's vulnerable too, and he cares, because, shocker! He's still a teenager, with complicated feelings and problems!! He just doesn't constantly feed his insecurities and anxieties because, unlike Jeremy, he likes who he is, he's come to accept himself and wouldn't change for anyone! This latter point is very important, because this means (or at the very least implies) that he will put himself first, not in a selfish way, but in a good way, that's healthy! However, this changes in The Pants Song. You could argue that "He doesn't change anything about him tho! He just decides to help Jeremy!" And you'd be right! But he does so by putting Jeremy before himself and his feelings! Because he's angry, he's grieving because he didn't expect his best friend to turn on him, he needs to process it at least and he deserves to be upset! He insists on not helping him at first, but at last he's convinced by Mr.Heere and ends up, basically doing what Jeremy's father should have done. He basically goes out and saves everyone's ass, even after he gets called a loser on the Halloween party, essentially beat up by a SQUIP-possessed-but-still-Jeremy Jeremy during the play etc.
On Jeremy's side, he is kind of jealous of Michael! Because in Jeremy's eyes, Michael is cool! And he's great! And Jeremy can't process why Michael doesn't hate himself like he does, because the two of them share a lot of traits that Jeremy is bullied for! Because even if not shown, Michael is probably bullied too, but he doesn't pay it any mind, his love of himself is too strong to be affected by it! Jeremy, in some way, kind of looks up to Michael, this could partly also be because of a lack of a parental figure to look up to, but that's a whole other thing. This could affect his view on things, because you could argue that Jeremy sees the SQUIP as that "parental" figure to look up to! Because it knows what's best for him, or so it says, and it's gonna solve all off his problems! So during the bathroom intervention, Michael essentially goes against this idol figure Jeremy has (the SQUIP) which, in Jeremy's eyes, is good! So in that logic, Michael must be the bad person in this! Which is what prompts him to push him away (both literally and metaphorically). That wasn't the point I was discussing tho so back to that! Jeremy needs Michael's approval, he needs Michael to reassure that what he's doing is right! Because nobody else will do the things for Jeremy, not his father, that's for sure!
The problem is that, well, Michael doesn't completely get this! He doesn't get that Jeremy needs him to make the decision for him or help him out, so he just tries to distract him from it with the whole "Cool In College" thing, and at the same time, accidentally confirms his fears, never with that intention of course! But he does. A good example is these lines from Two Player Game: "Dude you are cooler than a vintage cassette, it's just that no one else but me thinks that yet! You're just a nothing in this high school scheme [...]"
Is Michael saying Jeremy's fine the way he is? Yeah! You can understand that from his speech! Will Jeremy most probably just pick up on how he says nobody else thinks that? Also yes
So in conclusion, to end this all off because I'm writing this at 1 in the morning, Michael and Jeremy's relationship does have flaws, it has it's positive and negative aspects, but they can work through them! And about the whole SQUIP incident, I think they just need to actually talk about it and understand why they both did what they did (Mainly for Jeremy's part) and just move on forward! Could moving on forward mean going into a romantic relationship? Sure! It can be whatever kind of relationship you want! Can it also just continue to be platonic/friendship? Sure! Could both work out equally well? YEP! At least from my point of view!
Thanks for listening to me rant, I just have to say this probably went way off rail from what I was saying at the start and might feel kinda pointless, but again, it is 1 am and I'm not reading this again, I hope you can at least enjoy it! :)

I just thought of this and I can't get it out of my head. Michael and Jeremy's friendship is just Pim and Charlie, but as annoying teenagers. I know it's far fetched, but there's too many similarities between the two for me to not see it, if that makes sense?
They're goofy guy best friends who simply enjoy being around each other. They're not incapable of being apart or inseparable, they just prefer it when they're together. Idk, maybe I'm wrong, I can just kinda see it
