anyways. hi. want stupid niche bmc kid headcanons? yes you do! this is how they listen to music bc i think that tells a lot about a person.
jake, jenna and chloe use airpods, jeremy uses corded earbuds, michael, brooke and christine use over the head headphones. rich listens to music out loud. (kidding, he uses off-brand wireless bluetooth earbuds.)
jake has the most basic white case and air pods. he does not care about what they look like.
chloe has a rose gold pair, they're like. almost bougie.
jenna has like 8 different cases she swaps out for different seasons, but the actual airpods are purple. she just has those cute little case covers.
jeremy's corded earbuds are so janky and only work in specific positions. he got them from the dollar store and they're blue. they are almost always tangled.
michael has the most retro looking headphones that he has to have a special adapter to listen to music on his phone (but he usually doesn't, anyways, bc he carries around a walkman)
christine's are purple but so covered in stickers you can't tell what color they are.
brookes are like. shiny pastel pink. she takes very very good care of them.
richs "airpods" are knockoffs and are supposed to be skin colored but just look kind of pink

Roland RP107 | Digital Piano Announcement | Replacement for Roland RP102
youtube
p>Rolandâs RP102 has been a staple of the home digital piano market since its release in late 2017. The least expensive home digital piano with 88 weighted key touch from Roland, the RP102 has been a popular alternative to other best-sellers like the Yamaha YDP-144 and Kawai KDP75.
With the recent announcement of an update to the RP102 in the form of the new Roland RP107 SKU, we knew we needed to do a video and write a quick blog post about it, sharing everything we know at this point.
RP107 have not shipped to North America at this point, but we expect them to start hitting store shelves soon.
Why was the Roland RP102 Popular?
As we mentioned in the intro, the RP102 has been Roland's most basic 88-key weighted action digital piano. By the home piano, we mean that the RP102 has an integrated stand and built-in triple pedal system with damper, soft and sostenuto pedals.
Roland PHA-4 Action
The RP102 has a fairly basic 12-watt speaker system to keep the cost down, but otherwise, it has some really strong points going for it, making it an especially attractive option for the price. For one, it has the PHA-4 Standard Keyboard action, which in our opinion, is the top action available in this price range.
Bluetooth MIDI & Roland Apps for iOS & Android
Despite a fairly bare-bones on-board feature set, when used in conjunction with Roland's apps, the full General MIDI II sound bank was unlocked, giving the user access to hundreds of sounds including synthesizers, electric pianos, guitars and a host of drum rhythms.
And as an early adopter of Bluetooth MIDI, connecting to a smart device to access the apps was easy.
Roland SuperNATURAL Piano Engine Roland RP107 3D Headphone Ambience
The RP102 also boasts a very nice sound generator with Rolandâs SuperNATURAL Piano Sound. While the speaker system isnât robust enough to maximize the sound engine when playing acoustically, it sounds fantastic when playing with headphones with a lush grand piano sound, due in part to the built-in Headphones 3D Ambience effect.
Whatâs Improved on the Roland RP107? New BMC Sound Chip
The first key improvement featured on the new RP107 is the inclusion of Rolandâs BMC sound chip. This advanced new chip is also being featured throughout the new FP series instruments, as well as the upcoming Roland F107. Not only does this chip offer increased complexity on acoustic piano tones and all sounds frankly, but it also doubles the polyphony from 128 notes to 256. So, we can safely expect the RP107 to sound better than the RP102.
Bluetooth Audio Roland RP107 Connectivity
While the connector jacks have remained the same with the RP107, Bluetooth Audio has been added which is a very exciting addition given the price point that the RP107 will be available at.
Bluetooth Audio allows you to stream music directly from a device and playback the music through the RP107âs built-in speaker system, whether for playing along with or simply listening to.
16-Watt Speakers
Roland has given the speaker system on the RP107 a modest bump in power output, from 12 watts to 16 watts in total coming from the amp. Combined with the BMC, this extra bit of power is sure to have a larger-than-normal effect on the overall quality of the sound.
Roland Piano App Roland Piano App
Rolandâs Piano Every Day app had many great features, but the user interface was clunky and met with many complaints. Fortunately, Roland took the criticism to heart and addressed the issues thoroughly, resulting in the new Roland Piano App.
When using the RP107 in conjunction with the Roland Piano App, you can remote control all of the features of the RP107 from the convenience of your smart device thanks to Bluetooth connectivity with a beautiful new interface. Everything from the metronome, touch sensitivity, twin piano, master tuning, and everything else, while also greatly expanding the functionality by adding additional sounds, sheet music via the Roland Cloud and rhythms.
Closing Thoughts Roland RP107 Dimensions
While the RP102 was a highly relevant instrument during its run, thereâs no question that the RP107 is a welcome arrival, and serves as a meaningful advancement with some very notable improvements, particularly with regard to sound. Rolandâs warranty coverage is always great so thatâs a confidence booster as well.
If youâre looking for a very capable yet affordable home digital piano with slick cabinet styling that also happens to come with everything you need in the box, including a piano bench, music rest and power supply, the Roland RP107 is set to be a compelling option that should be on your wishlist waiting for checkout, picking up where the RP102 left off.

Ice Ice Baby
Anon asked: hi! Ohmygosh, ive just read every single one of your bmc fics, I love them so much! If youâre not too busy, could I request a fic where Michael gets sick from falling in a cold lake or something? Thank you so much
FlatteryâŠwill get you everywhere my friend.
â
It was a fucking disaster. Maybe if Jeremy had listened to him for once, just once, in his damn life. But no, it was a different kind of mountain dew so of course itâd be ok! Donât listen to Did-All-The-Necessary-Reach Michael Mell, why would you fucking do that?
And even worse? It was cold, unbearably so. Michaelâs face felt numb and bitter even though he was running. He had a thick winter jacket one that he was struggling to put his hood up for, he didnât have time to put on gloves, a scarf, or a hat. He just threw on a coat, some boots, and booked it out his front door. He was still in his Metroid pajamas, his numb fingers barely able to hit call on Jeremyâs contact. He cringed whenever the Bluetooth headphones he was wearing immediately went to voicemail. He wanted to throw his phone. What a dumbass.
Jeremy had messaged him not to long ago: canât control it, at the hideout.
Fuck. Michael shouldnât have left him alone. Michael didnât even want to leave him alone. No it was because his mom so desperatly needed him to help out with the cooking. Now his friend was probably possessed and doing who knows what in the woods. The hideout refers to an old hangout spot the two used to go to in their middle school years. It was a dinky little wooden bridge surrounded by dead forest and a lake. During the winter they used to test fate and walk across the lake. Michael had almost forgotten all about it.
âYou have reached the voicemail box of-â
âFucking hell Jerâ
Michael hissed at his hands, skin cracking in the cold. If it was this bad for him who was in a rush, he wondered what Jeremy was wearing, who wasnât even in control? The SQUIP could be having Jeremy sitting in a pile of snow in nothing by a t-shirt and shorts.
Michael shoved his phone into his pocket, ducking into the woods along the memorized path he and Jer carved out years ago. Years before a stupid computer chip got in the way.
âJeremy!â
Silence, aside from Michaelâs harsh breathing and footsteps. He almost wanted to take his coat off from all the heat getting to him.
âJer! Answer me!â
He neared the bridge now, grabbing onto the splintering railing and pulling himself up, the bridge twisting and creaking with his weight. He held himself over the edge of the bridge, arms shaking holding him up, as if he were about to throw up. God this was so much stress. He could barely breath from the cold and the running and the anxiety. He took a moment to collect hinself, hoping to hear his best friends voice. But he didnât.
He lifted his head again, another gulp being pulled into his lungs, âJeremy!â
His eyes scaled the white forest, looking for Jeremy. He ended up finding a trail of footprints that werenât his own. More calculated and calm. He followed them, until he saw Jeremy staring at him from the ice, just below the bridge.
Michael almost dropped with relief, arching himself back over the edge, âJerâŠwho am I talking to? Please tell me itâs you pal cuz I am so not in the mood for stopping another technology take over.â
Jeremyâs expression was cold, he looked across the features of the bridge then back to Michael, âYou ruined my plans before.â
Michael glared, clutching the Red in his inner coat pocket, âAnd you ruined Jeremyâs life.â
âI question your definition of ruined.â His tone was blunt, yet teasing, âI should be thanking you really.â
Michael didnât like the sound of that, ââŠWhy?â
âWell you told Jeremy the website you got all yourâŠvaluble SQUIP Intel from. And now, poof, all gone. Meaning the only threat left to SQUIPSâŠâ his eyes trailed back up to Michael, unwavering.
ââŠWhat are you doing here though?â
A smirk crossed Jeremyâs face, he stepped back from the bridge, âluring you in of course!â
âWha-â
The SQUIP could tell in an instant that the support of the bridge was weak, and with one throw of a rock the whole thing came tumbling down, dragging Michael down into ice with it.
With bitter cold instantly snapping and biting at his skin, Michael was thrown into a directionless heap in the water. Up or down was nothing to him, and the panic pounding in his chest did nothing to stop the chilling thought that he could die. The way his mind slowed down was so different from the highs he was used to, this was an uncomfortable numbing force that was pushing pressure against his eyes and sapping away all ability to move. He could hear nothing but a ringing noise, and the last thing he saw was a hand reaching out for him.
âMichael! Michael!â
The shock of seeing Michael drop through ice was enough to snap Jeremy back into control of his own body. He couldnât believe what he was looking at it. He shook his numb hands, shaking from the static running through them, and stumbled over to the hole Michael disappeared into.
He took fearful gulps of air, âOh godâŠoh man I donât- what do I do?â
He ignored the SQUIP mocking him in the back of his head, and blindly reached his hand into the murky water, gasping at the sharp embrace like ants. He reached in until his cheek was pressed against the water and he felt something brush against his fingertips. He instantly latched onto the heavy mass and pulled Michael out of the water.
He gasped and held his completely numb arm to his chest, trying to calm his rising panic, âMâŠMichaelâŠoh god MichaelâŠ!â
He ran over to Michael, scrambling to grab him. He was so incredibly cold. Jeremy almost went into a full panicked state when he grabbed onto Michaelâs arms. He let out a dry sob, cried âshit..!â And rolled Michael onto his back. His head rolled dead to the side, eyes open a sliver only showing the whites.
âNo..no pleaseâŠoh fuck Michael pleaseâ he shook him by the shoulders, watching Michaelâs cold face move with it.
Panic was setting more and more in now, holding onto his heart. In the corner of his eye he saw the SQUIP, standing over him and Michael with their cold eyes glowing down. They watched Jeremy lightly smack his friends face again and again, begging him to stay alive.
With a deep shaky breath Jeremy left his hand pressed against Michaelâs face, his skin was so unnaturally cold and now he was laying in the snow-
ââŠAre you going to check if heâs breathing or are you just going to keep crying?â
Jeremy looked up at the SQUIP in shock, pure unblinking shock.
âDonât get me wrong,â the SQUIP started, reading Jeremyâs mind, âIâm only helping because you just put your DNA all over him and Iâd rather not have a host accused of murder.â
Jeremy pursed his lips together and held his hand over Michaelâs face. He held his breath, nearly feeling faint until he recgoznied the warm breaths against his freezing skin. He nearly collapsed from relief, and laid on Michaelâs chest, listening to the wheezing breaths he was pulling in.
He let himself feel suddenly exhausted, breathing out a âheâs okayâŠâ
But he was still unconscious and numbingly cold. Pressing his hand against his face, Jeremy thought his hand was gonna stick to the skin. Michaelâs head rolled limply, his mouth parted slighted. Jeremy pulled Michael closer to himself, wrapping his arms around him tightly. He looked up at the SQUIP and felt a furious anger and disgust, but held it down in favor of helping Michael. He needed him this time.
âWise decision Jeremiah.â
Jeremy took a deep breath to calm himself, âWhat do I do? HeâsâŠheâs so coldâ
âYou need to get him warmed up, but not too quickly. It would probably be ideal to just bring him to a hospital in a carâ
Jeremy frowned, ââŠBut I canât driveâ
âI can.â
It was a terrible idea and honestly Michael was going to kill him for it when he found out, but he lifted Michael into his back and dragged him all the way back to his house and into his cruiser. Thing is, Michael always keeps his keys on him. So not only was Jeremy illegally driving but he was illegally driving in a friends car. Maybe he should just call an ambulance- no no. His parents are home and he canât wait out in the snow. He couldnât deal with Mrs Mell right now, sheâd probably stab him in the throat or something. After all it is entirely his fault.
Jeremy was tense, white knuckled and wide eyed. Every now and then heâd glance at Michael, shivering in the passenger seat, only to get scolded by the SQUIP.
âEyes on the roadâ he kept saying.
But Michael looked awful. Heâd stripped the boy of his hoodie, he couldnât bring himself to take off Michaelâs pants and he wasnât wearing a shirt under the hoodie anyway. Melted snow dripped down his brow from his hair, he was so still and silent aside from thin breaths.
âEyes on the road.â
But Michael looked awful-
âEyes on the road.â
But Michael was dying right next to him and he was going to be too late.
âEyes on the road Jeremy!â His hands lost control, turning the wheel sharply to the left. Jeremy felt his breath catch in his throat, eyes darting from Michael to the highbeams blinding him, suddenly aware of all the honking behind him. The car swerved back where it belonged, Jeremy had been drifting out of the lane.
Once he realized he was safe he slumped over, letting out a breath.
âJeremy you are driving illegally and if you prefer not to be caught I suggest you pay more attentionâ
Jeremy glanced up, his hands were still being controlled by the SQUIP, ââŠCan you justâŠâ
He never thought heâd ask the SQUIP for help twice in one day.
âCan you keep doing it like this?â
ââŠIf I must. But keep your eyes on the road nonetheless, I can only see what you and other SQUIPS can see.â
Jeremy nodded, only sparing another quick glance at his friend.
âPlease please hang in there Michaelâ
ââââ âHow did this happen again?â
Jeremy looked at his feet, noticing how one of the floor tiles were the wrong color.
âWe wereâŠuhâŠmessing around on the ice. Just being yknow, stupid.â He pulled at his sleeves, stretching them out.
âSon youâre plenty old enough to know how dangerous that is-â
âI know I know Iâm really sorry can I justâŠsee him again?â
The man sighed, âFine, be more careful next time. He could have diedâ
Jeremy gave a low whisper, âI know.â
Stepping into the room Jeremy could see nothing but Michael, he had been in the hospital for a few hours now. He already looked better, warmer. Jeremy sat by his side with his gameboy out, hoping to be there when he woke up.
And he was. But the problem was Michael also had a fever.
Now that Michael wasnât dying though he was allowed to go home despite the fever, they prescribed some fever reducers and sent him on his way.
Jeremy had his dad come and pick him up, heâd explain how he got here to Michael later. In the backseat of the car Jeremy couldnât keep his eyes off of Michaelâs flushed face.
Michael groaned, sinking into his hoodie as if he was still cold, but leaned his head against the glass window as if he was hot.
âMr. Heere,â Jeremy cringed, Michaelâs voice sounded awful, âDo I have to go home? My mom is gonna kill meâŠâ
âSheâs just worried sport, canât blame her. I know the feeling.â Mr. Heere gave a quick glance back at Jeremy.
âIâll try and see if you can spend the night, but you gotta face her eventually.â He smiled back and flexed his arm, âGotta take it like a man!â
Michael dryly laughed. The next second his expression was serious, peering into Jeremyâs worried eyes, âIâm fine Jer.â
ââŠbut-â
âIâm fine.â Michael looked out the window again. The car ride was silent.
Michael ended up being able to sleep over. Because of Jeremyâs insistence he was laying in his best friends bed. Michael groaned, laying a hand over his hot sweaty forehead, his eyes were lost and dazed. He glanced over at Jeremy who had just walked back into the room carrying a glass of water for Michael.
âYou ok? Iâm not gonna die you know.â
Jeremy frowned and pressed the glass into Michaelâs hand, âIâm still worried though, you almost did die after allâ
Michael laughed, âitâs ok dudeâ he pressed the glass to his lips, taking gulps of water down. He finished the glass without even realizing it, he pulled the glass away and smiled shyly at Jeremy.
âYou have a pretty bad fever you knowâ it was 102 last theyâd checked. âWhat do I do if it gets higherâ
âIt wonât.â
âYou donât know thatâ Jeremy stood up, grabbing the glass. âIâm gonna refill your water-â
Michael grabbed his wrist as he turned away, âhey.â
Jeremy turned, his face void of any readable expression, but Michael knew.
âItâs not your fault.â
Jeremy shut his eyes, took a deep breath, and let it go. He nodded and wiggled out of Michaelâs grip, âokay.â
For now the best he could do was help Michael feel better, then he could cope with the guilt.

Delusion Tax AU | BMC | Michael!!
Fast forward a few months. Jeremy had been living with his dad for this time, enjoying every second of it. Even when his dad started to lack pants again, he found that he didn't find it that weird. Unless Michael came over, that was a bit... yeah. Speaking of Michael. Holy shit. So, Jeremy got permission to temporarily attend freshman year of high school where Michael was attending. He literally passed out when he heard this (It concerned his dad quite a bit) out of excitement. On the first day, he almost didn't figure out who Michael was. He figured out at lunch, when saw him in front of him in the lunch line, texting him. Well, not him. But Heir. He blushed lightly, for two different reasons. One: Michael really did take time to talk to him, and by looking at him now, he could tell he put time into his responses. Two: Michael. Is. Really.... cute? It's true, he was cute. He couldnt deny it. But he wanted to, since he knew he was an amazing friend and that would make it awkward. What would his mom think if he liked a guy? No.. plus, this was the second cute person he's seem today. Christine Canigula. She.. she would work. He had to snap himself out of it when he saw her the first time. She was so adorable and fun-loving, she really was crush material. Of course, he couldn't talk to her. But after he got his food, he caught up to the boy who was going to sit at an empty table. He tapped his shoulder, looking a bit nervous. "Hmm?" Michael slid his headphones off his ears, making eye contact with the smaller boy. "I- uh- I'm... I'm Jeremy.. can I sit with you?" Michael stared for a minute. Then, this grin came across his face. "Sure thing! You're new in town, aren't you?" He kept talking as he lead him to the table. He didn't recognize him as Heir. It made sense, he looked normal, and acted much more awkwardly than he did when he could pretend to be cool over the phone. He rarely had mishaps with the back and forth (ex: asking about homework as Heir. He saved it, though). Even over the months, as their friendship took off, he didn't notice. It was for the best. His friendship with Michael only got closer and closer every day, eventually they were hanging out after school, telling eachother secret things (Maybe not certain things on his part...) and finally.. Jeremy was feeling happy. Michael started telling him about Heir. He remembered how that went. "Jeremy.. can I tell you something you can't tell anyone?" "Uh.. yeah-?" "Promise! Promise me, Jer!" "Ok! I promise. Back up, I swear, I promise!" "Ok, good.. But don't freak out." And I wasn't the one to freak out. I acted surprised, but this only fueled this new, child-like excitement with Michael about Heir. He actually squealed. Jeremy had to hide his flushed expression. Jeremy was finally happy. He may not be a cool guy on school, but that wasn't what he wanted anyways. All he wanted was Michael, and to live a normal life. And now.. He might finally have it. "Jeremy?" "Yeah?" "Why are you crying? Are you ok?" "Oh, y-yeah.. just thinking of a video game death, that's all." --- Ms. Heere sat at her desk in New York, holding her Bluetooth with one finger. She stated out the window as she discussed a business offer from Waylane industries in England. It was going pretty smoothly. Smoothly always equals success, and success equals happiness. Well, part of happiness.. her other happiness is.. Speaking of. Another line called, and she almost put them on hold. However, it was a number from her estate. They did not call frequently- direct calls only came if they were about Jeremy. "I'm sorry- I'm going to have to place you on hold. Family matters. Yes, alright- thank you." She switched. "Yes?" "Ms. Heere- I'm on to talk about Jeremy." She could tell this was Jeremy's personal servant/caretaker, the one who took more care of him as a baby and knows Jeremy the most out of the large staff. It's not like they seem close anymore, though.. "Yes? Is something the matter with him? I know he's back from his father's home." She assumed. Maybe he had caught an illness, she wouldn't be surprised with all the unvaccinated children that go to schools these days and yada yada. "That is the problem, Ma'am. It appears that Jeremy hasn't come back yet." "..what was that?" It has come to her attention that her son hadn't gotten on the plane back to Paris. For one reason or another, he was still staying at his dad's house. She tried to call him. He answered the first time, the conversation was... short. "Hello, mom- mother?" "Jeremy, dear. I'm on to talk to you about coming home." "Oh.. m.. mother, I think I want to stay here longer." "You do? Why would you want to do that, sweety?" "I don't know, I just.. like it here?" "Honey, how could you 'like' it there? It's filthy and common. Besides, at home, you can have whatever you-" "I'm sorry, mother, someone's at the door for me. I have to go." "Honey -" "Mother." He had hung up. She sat there, wondering to herself about it. His reaction saddened and confused her. Why would he want to stay with him? She could guess his father wasn't wearing pants. She could tell he was going to.. ugh. Highschool. Is he.. not happy at home? 'How could that be?' She thought to herself. 'I give him everything he'll ever need or want, if he asks for it. I give him everything and anything. So how could he go to his father like this?' Then it hit her. Maybe she didn't know her son. Maybe.. She didn't know what he really, really wanted, deep down. And if she couldn't know.. there's only one thing to do. Make something that can know.

Roland FP-30X FAQ | Features, Performance, And Overall Valueï»ż | Digital Piano FAQ
youtube
The Roland FP-30X is easily one of the single most popular 88-key digital pianos currently on the market, known for its killer combination of key touch, piano sound, features, connectivity, portability and very reasonable price point.
Now, if youâre considering the FP-30X and are in the midst of research, thereâs a chance that very specific questions about this piano have come up in your mind, the answers to which arenât readily apparent in the FP-30Xâs marketing literature, specs sheets or various online piano reviews.
Fortunately for you, weâve scoured the internet and created this Roland FP-30X FAQ - compiling the 12 most commonly asked questions. In todayâs article and companion video, weâll be providing answers to these commonly asked questions to help fill in the missing pieces of your research.
Roland FP-30X FAQ - 12 Most Commonly Asked Questions
FAQ #1: What is the Difference Between the FP-30 and FP-30X?
First of all, we have done a video on this exact question over on our YouTube channel, where we go through every detail point by point. If you want a super in-depth breakdown, weâd recommend checking that video out.
But to quickly summarize, Roland has improved in several areas with the FP-30X that are very meaningful. For one, theyâve upgraded the sound chip architecture to Rolandâs new BMC chip which is able to render a far more complex version of the SuperNATURAL piano sound engine - the improved sound quality is easily apparent when playing the FP-30 and the FP-30X side-by-side even though the amplifier power is the same.
Secondly, courtesy of the new BMC chip, the polyphony has been doubled from 128 to 256 notes. Thirdly, theyâve added 1/4â line outputs which is a huge deal as it firmly establishes the FP-30X has a gigging option for professionals and means no more messing with the headphone outputs. Number four, Bluetooth audio has been added to the mix as well.
Finally, the FP-30X also adds a built-in USB audio interface which is going to be a really nice bonus for anyone working with DAW software.
As you can see, to call the FP-30X an improvement over the FP-30 would be a grand understatement.
Roland FP-30X FAQ - Digital Piano Dimensions
FAQ #2: What Does the USB Audio Interface Do?
The built-in USB audio interface allows you to transfer audio information directly from your FP-30X to a DAW without the need for an external audio interface. This cuts down on additional gear and clutter in your workspace.
FAQ #3: Is the Roland FP-30 Digital Piano Discontinued?
Yes, the FP-30 is technically discontinued and the FP-30X is its replacement. Roland does not overlap production when a new model replaces an older model as you see in other industries, such as video game consoles for example.
This means that when youâre doing research, be sure to include the âXâ in your searches to ensure you are in fact learning about the FP-30X as opposed to the FP-30.
While Roland is no longer manufacturing or shipping FP-30s, you can most definitely still find them on the second-hand market.
FAQ #4: How much does the FP-30/FP-30X Cost?
How much is the FP-30X versus the FP30? As is typically the case with new models, there has been a price increase with the FP-30X, in this case, by around $100 USD in most markets.
The exact cost will depend on your geographic region, but in general, an increase of $100 USD can be expected.
FAQ #5: Does the Roland FP-30X have MIDI?
The answer here is another âyesâ. Virtually, all modern digital pianos work on a MIDI-based framework, meaning that the signals that the keys send to the tone generator are all based on MIDI language.
Most digital pianos and keyboards are built in a way that allows you to externalize MIDI information to both send and receive said information with other devices. The FP-30X has both Bluetooth MIDI and USB Flash Drive MIDI.
FAQ #6: Is the FP-30X Good for Beginners?
The answer to this question is an emphatic "Absolutely." Of course, this needs to be considered within the context of affordability and budget. If youâre comfortable in the price range of the FP-30X, itâs without question a fantastic option for beginners.
If youâre working with a budget in a lower price range, there are still a number of 88-key weighted action digital pianos available that will also be fine for a beginner starting piano lessons.
Why is the FP-30X a fantastic beginner option if the budget allows? Most significantly, because of the presence of Rolandâs excellent PHA4 Standard action (also found in the more expensive FP-60X) - the top key action available in the price in our opinion here at Merriam Pianos due to its triple sensor, escapement, adjustable touch sensitivity and ivory feel key tops.
Add in a great piano tone, speaker system, multiple connectors, features like split, twin piano, transpose and metronome, compatibility with education apps, included damper pedal (sustain pedal) and the option to add the KSC-70 keyboard stand and KPD-70 triple pedal unit, all of which adds up to an incredible total package.
FAQ #7: Does the Roland FP-30X have Weighted Keys?
The Roland FP-30X most definitely has weighted keys. If youâre not familiar with the concept of weighted keys, it essentially means that the keys are designed to replicate the weighting of an acoustic piano key in terms of how much force the player has to provide to get the key in motion.
Youâll probably hear piano teachers or people you know with piano experience harping on the fact that the digital piano you choose needs to have weighted keys if youâre serious about learning piano. This is because weighted keys are necessary to learn the nuances and sense of control necessary to play an acoustic piano.
FAQ #8: Does the FP-30X Come with a Music Stand?
The FP-30X (and all FP-X series portable digital pianos) ships with a free plastic music stand (sometimes called music rest) in the box.
Itâs lightweight, easily removable, and can definitely accommodate standard sheet music and music books.
FAQ #9: How Do You Connect the Roland FP-30X to a Computer?
There are two ways to connect the FP-30X to a computer. The first way is through a standard USB cable, and this is going to be the most stable method. Simply plug one end of the cable into the USB port on the FP-30X, and the other end into the USB port on your computer, which results in a MIDI connection.
If your computer is Bluetooth enabled, you can also connect wirelessly via the FP-30Xâs Bluetooth MIDI function.
FAQ #10: How Do You Record On the FP-30/FP-30X?
The FP-30X has an internal USB audio connection, so you can record audio information (WAV) directly to a DAW by simply connecting via a USB cable. The FP-30 doesnât have this feature, so to record to a DAW, youâll have to use the headphone jack to run a splitter that then runs a 1/4â jack into an external USB audio interface.
Secondly, on both pianos, you can record MIDI files wirelessly via various apps available for Android and iOS
Thirdly, both pianos have basic internal recorders that can be activated with the press of a button (further instructions are available in the ownerâs manual here.)
FAQ #11: How Do You Connect the Roland FP-30x to Bluetooth?
The first step to connecting your FP-30X to a device via Bluetooth is to ensure that the Bluetooth MIDI connection is actually turned on. To turn the connection on, hold the function button and press the lowest A - this turns the Bluetooth function on.
Next, press and hold the function button until it starts to blink in a blue color. From there. launch the Piano Every Day app on your Smart Device. The app will automatically begin searching for a piano, and shortly after the FP-30X will appear which you can select.
Once connected, you can start using all of the various features of the Roland Piano Every Day and Piano Designer apps. You can also navigate and control the various functions and sounds of the instrument through your Smart Device, easily scrolling through various grand piano, synthesizer and electric piano sounds (the e-piano sounds are especially nice.)
Apps like Appleâs Garageband and others that offer arranger keyboard-like functionality are also accessible.
FAQ #12: Is the FP-30/FP-30x Good or Live Performances?
The FP-30 was certainly capable of being used as a performance instrument, but it wasnât ideally or particularly suited for this purpose.
The various upgrades to the FP-30X make it a much more capable performance instrument, especially with regards to the upgraded polyphony and of course, the inclusion of discreet 1/4â outputs meaning no messing around with adapters is the biggest reason why the FP-30X is a legit performance instrument.
The build quality and overall durability were already present with the FP-30, but these improved features take it one step further.

New Roland FP-X Series Digital Pianos | Roland FP-30X, FP-60X, FP-90X, F701, & RP701
youtube
2021 has been a big year for Roland with 5, count em' 5, new Roland digital pianos hitting the market, each one an update to a popular previous model.
In this article, we'll take a quick glance at each of the 5 models and briefly cover exactly what was approved with each model.
Roland FP-X Series - Overview
As one of the top players in the home digital piano market, pretty much every model Roland offers has been a huge seller. Updates on existing models are usually staggered so that new models come out one or two at a time, but in this case, Roland decided to update 5 models simultaneously.
With the exception of the entry-level FP-10, the entire FP series has been upgraded with the FP-30 is now the FP-30X, the FP-60 is now the FP-60X, the FP-90 is now the FP-90X, while home digital piano F140r has been upgraded to the F701, and the RP501 is now the RP701.
Let's take a look at each instrument to see exactly what was improved over the previous generation's model.
Roland FP-30X Digital Piano
When we first saw the spec sheets, we couldn't wait to get our hands on the FP-30X. Two critical updates that people have been begging for are present here; an increase to the polyphony, which in this case means an increase to the complexity of the piano sound and dedicated line outputs.
The polyphony has literally been doubled from 128 notes to 256, courtesy of the new BMC chip, and this is quite indicative of the extra processing power that the FP-30X is working with.
The twin quarter-inch outputs are a very significant add as they are totally separate from the headphone jack. This means the FP-30X is finally going to become a true gigging piano, which is great because the original FP-30 was always right on the cusp of being a killer gigging piano. The FP-30 was undoubtedly an excellent instrument, but adding the twin line outputs brings it to a whole new level.
Rounding out the improvements are 21 additional onboard sounds including improved piano tones, and the addition of Bluetooth audio connectivity. The FP-30 had Bluetooth MIDI for connection to music apps like Garageband, but the Audio functionality is a very welcome addition as it allows you to use the FP-30X to stream music directly from the onboard speakers.
The FP-30X again comes standard with a damper pedal, but you can upgrade to the three-pedal unit KPD 70 and KSC 70 matching optional stand.
Early feedback on the FP-30X has pretty much been unanimous - this is a class-leading instrument in the portable piano category that delivers incredible value.
Roland FP-60X Digital Piano
The FP-60X isn't the same 'Home Run' of an improvement that the FP-30X in the sense that the improvements are not as significant as those found on the FP-30X. That said, Roland didn't simply roll back the FP-60 and alter the name, there are several improvements that need to be noted.
To start, the total onboard sounds have been expanded to a large trove of 358 sounds, including a great selection of electric pianos, strings, synths, and more, all courtesy of the trusty SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine.
They've also improved the stereo speaker design and combined with the BMC chip, the FP-60X is undoubtedly delivering higher fidelity sound than what the FP-60 was capable of.
A couple of other things to mention; they've added the My Stage feature, added a mic input, and added 22 additional internal songs.
The FP-60X brings back the PHA4 Standard Keyboard action with escapement and ivory feel, so the improvements are pretty much all sound-related, which of course, isn't a bad thing.
Roland FP-90X Digital Piano
The FP-90X has a fairly short list of upgrades, but the main upgrade is very substantial - the FP-90X utilizes the brand new PureAcoustic Piano Modeling Engine, which can otherwise only be found in the top two LX-700 series flagship home digital pianos.
This is the latest in piano technology with one of the most sophisticated sound engines available in any digital piano, offering limitless polyphony while on acoustic piano tones, and delivering seriously high-level authenticity. The new ambience effects are particularly noteworthy, and getting in and customizing the sound with the Piano Designer app is tons of fun.
Otherwise, they've also expanded the total amount of onboard tones, added a second headphone input, and made the FP-90X compatible with the new Piano Everyday app.
The PHA-50 hybrid wood hammer action with escapement makes a return and maintains its place as one of the best actions available in a portable digital piano with phenomenal playability.
The class-leading onboard speaker system (twin subs and twin dome tweeters) and powerful amplifiers return as well. The FP-90X makes a strong case for being the best all-in-one stage piano available.
Roland F701 Digital Piano
Roland's F140r was an absolute force in the ultra-competitive mid-range home digital piano market, so like the FP-30X, this is an incredibly important instrument for Roland to get right with the new generation. Fortunately, they did just that.
Let's start with the appearance. The F701 retains the spirit of the F140r as a modern, highly compact instrument, but they have made the cabinet more robust and durable. The user interface has also been improved and is much easier to operate.
Like the FP-30X, the polyphony has been doubled to a class-leading 256 notes. There's also a massive list of onboard tones with over 300, also a class-leading spec.
The internal song list has been greatly expanded, and the F701 now incorporates Bluetooth Audio connectivity.
Overall, these improvements represent a sizeable improvement over the F104r.
Roland RP701 Digital Piano
The upgrades the RP701 offers over the RP501 are basically the exact same as the F701, which should come as no surprise given that the F140r and RP501 were very similar instruments aside from the cabinetry.
The relationship stays the same here, but the cabinet differences between the F701 and RP701 are now much more dramatic; the RP701 captures the true look and feel of an acoustic upright piano much better than the RP501 did.
Otherwise, we've got all the same upgrades - polyphony increased to 256 notes, more on-board sounds, more internal songs, Bluetooth Audio, and an improved user interface.
The RP701 is a great option for someone looking for the look of an acoustic piano with the functionality of a digital piano, without running into the multiple thousands of dollars.
Conclusions
5 new pianos, all with varying degrees of improvement, though all with the exception of the FP-60X represent a fairly significant level of improvement over their previous incarnations.
