there's something different about astarion tonight, a slight flair, the usual coldness, it's replaced by a warmness that is unlike him. he smiles, and it's a little droopy, eyes half lidded. "jester, jester..." he sings songs, his head tilts as his arms extend. a little dramatic. "...you'll never guess what i was up to." he keeps the smile on his face. for once there isn't a worry, just the drive to be annoying. and get under her skin.

hex drops the facade the moment it appears that jester has caught on, grins then, sharp teeth frame her bottom lip, before she raises her hands at jester. "-oops. no, yes, i was absolutely lying. i did have a chat with aradin whenever you and the others walked about the grove." half the fun of lying is seeing how far can the lack of truth carry you, how far can you go until it bends and snaps. the aftermath of it, she is not too concerned. "-i'm th'best at my job, got us a little contract. well, us sounds like a crowd. i got myself a contract. something about an ancient relic. child's play in all honesty." she runs her mouth, pulls out the paper she was handed. shows it off to jester, somewhat proud. "-read it. you cannot be that upset that i told everyone else a little white lie. it's how we keep things interesting, doll. not everyone has to be in the know..." she bites her tongue. cheery for all the wrong reasons.

Keyleth is sweet. A kind heart amidst the cruelties that the end of the bloody world brings. Karlach finds it endearing, mostly because she is one of few who try their damnedest to look on the bright side (until the brightness is completely faded, they are not sweet all the time and in that, Karlach also relates.) It shouldn't be a shock when she finds just the right thing to say to strike into her 'heart'.

While she may have been smiling moments ago, the sadness of truth drowns it out. Her frown isn't heavy but it's there. " I... Yeah. I do. I really do. " It's like being seen. So liberating yet so raw. She doesn't know how to feel about that just yet. She only realizes how quiet she gets after a few extra minutes tick by.
