rules: copy this post into a new text post, remove my answers and put in yours, and when you are done tag up to 10 people and also tag the person who tagged you… and most importantly, have fun! a - age: 17 b - biggest fear: Probably being left out and alone, which is ironic because I’m prone to self-isolation. Sometimes I just suddenly shut down and stop talking to people because I get stressed out having to keep up with the conversation, which is nothing personal—it’s just mentally exhausting and kind of terrifying. c - current time: 4:46 p.m. d - drink you last had: Water f - favorite song: Nothing as of right now… but I’m a sucker for the classics like “Natural Woman” and anything Whitney Houston. g - ghosts, are they real: Maybe. Yes. I come from a superstitious family, so some of that has rubbed off on me. Still not religious, though. i - in love with: Art. And Gakuhou Asano, but it’s the typical “This asshole is my muse!” kind of love. j - jealous of: I guess… extroverted people? Socializing is really hard for me to do, even through a computer. I should make more of an effort, tbh. k - killed someone: Um… no. l - last time you cried: … Yesterday. (I watched Blue is the Warmest Color and broke down sobbing) m - middle name: Marie. Unfortunately, new teachers see it on the roster and think it’s part of my first name so I always have to correct them while my classmates snort like, “Your middle name is Marie?” n - number of siblings: One little brother whom I would die for. o - one wish: I wish I would win the damn lottery and get like, millions of dollars so that my mom can finally take a day off from work and someday retire without any worries. I can pay for my college tuition, buy a house, and send money to my relatives back in the Philippines so they won’t have to get buried in debt whenever someone has to go to the hospital. I know money’s a shallow thing to wish for, but it would help so much right now. p - person you last called/texted: My best friend since elementary school. q - question(s) you’re always asked: How’s school going? What colleges did you apply to? Did you get into any colleges yet? (It’s senior year so) r - reasons to smile: Nice and funny tags on my art. No matter how bad my day is, that always makes me smile. My friends, of course, are awesome. My family is pretty awesome… a lot of the time. And shout-out to my grades. They’re awesome too. s - song last sang: The opening song for Orange is the New Black. t - time you woke up: 11:08 a.m. u - underwear color: Blue v - vacation destination: Italy w - worst habit: I’m stuck between procrastination and hiding from my friends for like, days at a time. x - x-rays you’ve had: Don’t remember. y- your favorite food: Mango cake (mmmmm) z - zodiac sign: Aries
Too lazy to tag (also I think all my friends have already been tagged so)

Thanks for tagging me, @poison-glasses
rules: tag 10 people who you’d like to get to know better
how old are you?: 17 (turning 18 in April)
what’s your current job?: Still a student… though I’m trying to find a part-time job rn
what’s your aesthetic?: Clean lines, messy lines, bright colors, neutral colors, metallics, et cetera. As long as it works together, I love it. Interior design-wise (bc im a sucker for looking at houses), I love white walls and eclecticism.
do you collect anything?: Manga. So far I have Blue Exorcist, Assassination Classroom, One Punch Man, My Hero Academia, the first volume of One Piece, six volumes of Food Wars, and all ten volumes of this discontinued manhwa Blade of Heaven.
And coins from countries I visit. This includes game tokens and a St. John’s University coin for some reason.
what’s a topic you always talk about?: It depends on the people I’m talking to, I guess? Anime, manga, tv shows, movies, interior design, clothes, school projects, drawing, politics, current events, and food.
what’s a pet peeve of yours?: Lint and hair on clothes. Especially. When. I. Can’t. Get. It. Off.
good advice to give: Don’t take yourself too seriously. Life’s too short to be angry and riled-up all the time, and it’s hard to make friends if you’re always ranting about every little thing that pisses you off. Chill.
3 songs you’d recommend:
Unlove You - Star Cast I Learned From The Best - Whitney Houston Where You Are - from Moana soundtrack
tagging: @purple-petrichor, @greengargouille , @takaoka-akira, @uravitys, @blazardragon, @reneefantasy26 (I think you guys haven’t been tagged yet? I haven’t been on much these days)

In Assassination classroom, why do you think Gakushuu equates being punched in the face by the Chairman with 'fatherly' behaviour?
Thanks for the ask, anon! I really like getting these types of questions, though it takes me a while to formulate an adequate response.
Well, sadly, in a lot of countries, violence in child discipline seems to be the norm. I don’t think it’s the norm in Japan, though I’m just generalizing to make this analysis easier.
According to some articles and studies, Japanese parents aren’t big on physical punishment and showing anger (I’m not sure, though, because anime and Vocaloid songs say otherwise)—they prefer their kids to be independent and learn from imitation and criticism.
On the other hand, some Japanese parents leave their kids outside a grocery store because of some misdemeanor.
Likewise, the Chairman doesn’t believe in implementing violence into his teaching methods (the foreigners seemed to be the exception because Class A’s defeat was pushing him to the edge and he was getting sick of losing). I think that his “parenting” (and I say this in the loosest way possible because he’s hardly a parent) had, until his defeat by Korosensei, followed the same quota, since he sees Gakushu as one of his students.
So I find it kind of strange that Gakushu says that, because hitting kids doesn’t seem to be the norm in Japan. It could be that he’s a bit more in-tune with other cultures, but I personally think it has something to do with emotion, which the Asanos obviously have problems with. Gakushu pretty much thinks that his dad isn’t human. He’s a robot.
Because Gakuho’s always so detached—way more than the typical Japanese parent—for Gakushu, that slap is a sign of him “malfunctioning” and breaking character. Because now, he’s actually showing that he’s capable of expressing some human emotion.
Plus, let’s go back to that little tidbit that Gakuho doesn’t believe in using violence on his students. Imma go out on a limb and say that by hitting Gakushu, he’s essentially admitting that he’s not just one of his students. Because, putting aside his emotional state at the time, if Gakushu really was just his student, he wouldn’t have dared to lay a finger on him. So, going by that weird logic, he considers Gakushu more like his son than his student.
And Gakushu finds that reassuring. That bruise on his face is an indication that he has been officially been booted out of the studentzone and into the sonzone.
… does that make sense? I’m not sure… (then again, since when has the Asanos’ relationship ever made sense?)

"Gakuho is so unfanservicey". Like, no. He's constantly in a suit. Granted, it's a 3 buttons suits, and he even button up the bottom one, but it's still pretty appealing. (And I'm left wondering if Karasuma's the kind of person who might be attracted to men in suits. This guy loves his work too much, of course this would be the kind of clothes he would be attracted to).
B-b-b-bu-but…
What if he takes the suit off?
No, in all seriousness though, it would be pretty refreshing to see him in a different outfit, since the guy has worn nothing but suits from the moment he was introduced. (flashback doesn’t count because he was wearing suspenders what an adorable dork)
Tho I agree with you that he looks very very good in dat suit (mm who’s his tailor)
This is why the “only one outfit per character” trope grates on me.
As for Karasuma… they both wear suits like, pretty much all the time. Imagine their home life. Do they wear slacks and tucked-in button-up shirts in the house (Karasuma probably wears a tshirt and sweatpants but i cant imagine the chairman strutting around his house looking anything less than business casual) oh my god they need help
someday im gonna draw gakuho wearing crocs out of spite.

If Karasuma and Gakuhou did get together, how do you think Gakushuu would react? What kind of relationship would he have with Karasuma.
My mind just went all over the place for this one! It was hard getting my thoughts in order.
Understandably, Gakushu would be surprised, because 1) his father’s dating a guy, and 2) said guy used to be E-Class’s teacher. Oh, and 3) there’s someone who can actually tolerate and like his father’s personality.
After recovering from his initial shock, I don’t think that he would care too much about it.
Gakuho would probably spend more time at Karasuma’s place than Karasuma spends at the Asanos’ house for privacy reasons, so Gakushu doesn’t see him often. And they save the PDA for the bedroom (unless they haven’t seen each other in a while, and even then it’s just a peck on the lips at most), so Gakushu doesn’t have to deal with the traumatizing image of his father making out with someone.
But he would have to invest in a pair of high-quality earplugs.
All in all, though, Karasuma would be like his second emotionally-constipated dad, just a tad more caring and not as snide. He would make an effort to connect with Gakushu whenever he’s in the neighborhood, much like he did with E-Class. He’d pick him up from school and ask him about his day (the first time he did this, though, Gakushu made a snippy comment about how he was only pretending to care) and maybe even buy some snacks.
I imagine that they both live on junk food. I mean, sure, Gakushu eats a lot of healthy meals and stuff, but cup ramen and chips are much more convenient when you’re locked in your room studying for six hours straight or cooped up in an emergency student council meeting. He probably keeps a stash in his closet or something.
“I’ll take a potato chip… and eat it!”
In terms of familial bonding, though, they wouldn’t be that close, but maybe they can work up to that eventually. They’re both extremely awkward with personal relationships, but I think that Karasuma’s straightforwardness and moral code can actually be beneficial to Gakushu. The kid needs someone to tell him that his classmates should not be referred to as his minions/underlings/lackeys, and there’s no way that Gakuho’s going to be that someone.
Oh! And personal headcanon: Even though he would win each game, Gakushu still likes playing chess or shoji with Karasuma because the guy makes some hilarious faces when he’s frustrated. But there’s no way he’s playing poker with him.

What kind of persondo you think Gakushuu would be if Ikeda never died, and the Chairman never had his breakdown?
Ooh, this one’s a toughie! Good question, anon! I had to think about this for quite a while!
The first thing I did was look at Gakuho (which I already do on a daily basis, but I digress).
Gakuho is a teacher at heart, so I know he’ll be all about learning and being smart, and I know that he expects his kid to excel in school, because why name your kid Gakushu (knowledge/school, excellent) if you don’t?
But here’s the thing: I’m not sure how Gakuho would treat his kid, compared to how he treats his students. I’d like to think that he’d care more about Gakushu’s mental health and happiness more than his grades.
I actually have a pre-Ikeda Gakuho in my life right now.
One of the math teachers in my high school teaches my entrepreneurship class, and she has two kids. She based her parenting methods off of her ten years of experience teaching at our school, which is full of Asian kids like me. She’s Korean herself, actually, and she’s noticed that there’s pretty much a set outcome for most of the kids at my school—our upbringing makes us afraid to fail, and that’s why so many of us are so full of anxiety.
We don’t care about what we learn—it’s the numbers that matter. It’s the college we get into that matters, because a lot of us were raised on the idea that failure is not an option. We go to cram schools, take online classes, beg for that one point of extra credit. We spend hundreds of dollars on test books for Regents and the AP exams and the SAT and ACT. We aim to get into schools like Princeton and MIT. And we freak out whenever we get below an 80.
(I hate the American school system.)
Now and then, my teacher comes across these rare kids who get excellent grades and stand out in class because they actually love learning. They usually have one thing in common: they were the ones who, growing up, were never forced to learn.
Cue our Gakushu Asano. He has perfect grades. He’s the Student Council President. Everyone wants to be him—academics-wise, athletics-wise, etc.
But does he love learning? I don’t think so. I think that he just sees it as a means to get ahead of the crowd. He shoulders the burden of leadership and perfection onto himself and refuses to accept assistance (which is why him asking E-Class to help during the finals was such a brilliant show in character development). And that’s because his father raised him that way.
Obviously, that’s not the type of kid the easygoing Gakuho would have raised during his cram school days. Now, being Japanese, it’s kind of a given that he was raised to look down on failure (but then again, I should not generalize)—however, let’s not forget that Mr. Chairman here went to Harvard. It’s an Ivy League school, but not everyone there is there because of their stellar grades. There are students on athletic scholarships and students who can afford to pay full tuition because they’re rich, so it’s more… diverse, I guess? So I imagine that studying abroad and meeting people of different upbringings changed Gakuho’s outlook on life.
What my teacher does is that she accepts failure. She told this story about one of her kids coming home crying because they failed a test, so she laughed in their face and said that it was just one test. Her kid was so surprised and so relieved.
Mistakes make people better themselves. Humans fail—it’s in our nature, and if we foster that fear of failing in our kids, then they’ll just… boom. Self-destruct.
This is the parent I think Gakuho would be if he hadn’t become so obsessed with strength. The type of parent who’d shrug off a 50 and go: “It’s okay to fail,” or “I still love you regardless.” The type of parent who Gakushu will never be scared of confiding in whenever he has a problem he can’t solve on his own. The type of parent who’ll probably stand out amongst the others because his style of parenting is so different.
(The type of parent we wish we had.)
In an alternate universe, I believe that there’s a Gakushu Asano who loves learning. He’s the type to take risks and be creative and weird (like his old man) and friendly. He’d be the type that people would love to follow—the type who would help and ask for help, because they know and he knows that he’s still human.
Of course, he’d still be the top student. But even if he wasn’t, that would be fine.

There's one point in the assassination classroom manga where it states 'the Chairman doesn't bother to love or hate his son' (or something). Do you think this is true?
Yup. In that same chapter that you speak of, he explicitly states that Gakushu is an experiment—or, in his exact words, “the perfect example” of his teaching ideals. What a nice guy. I remember that in that chapter, Gakuho’s trimming a plant (and casually cuts off an entire branch), which symbolizes what Gakushu means to him—something to raise and develop, not something to love.
I do believe that Gakuho cared about Gakushu, to some extent. It just wasn’t love. It’s kind of like a project, with procedures and trials and everything. At that point, Gakuhou only saw his son as one of his students—someone to mold and strengthen to become a functioning member of society. But unlike the rest, he wants him to become not just strong enough to survive, but strong enough to make it to the top.
To word it in a less confusing way: You can’t call emotionally neglecting and manipulating your son “love,” even if you claim it was for his own good. And Gakushu’s never exactly given his father a reason to hate him, since everything seems to be going according to plan.

Hey ! I see that someone reblogged that shipping ask, so let's see :33 đź’”, đź’Ł and đź‘€ ? Hm, I don't know in which fandoms you are beside Assassination Classroom, but if you feel like answer for another fandom I would love to learn !
Eyy, thanks for asking! This is a bit long, so I’m sorry!
Ship that makes me sad: TTGG’s Kamina x Yoko. Self-explanatory, and saying more might spoil it for those who haven’t watched.
Ship that pisses me off: Okay. Buckle up, I’m gonna go on a potentially offensive rant here, because I’ve been holding this in for so long. I strongly dislike any ship that pairs one of the students with an adult. I admit I used to ship one of those ships, but I’m over that phase.
But. Gakuho x Isogai.
While I don’t dislike the people who support it, that particular pairing, out of all the Gakuho ships, has the most fanart and fanfiction devoted to it (did you know that on fanfiction.net, about a third of the Gakuho stories have him paired with Isogai?).
As someone who loves Gakuho as a character, the idea of him sexually harassing or assaulting one of his students (or son) is just… urgh! What makes it worse is that on Tumblr, the fanart is rarely tagged properly, so I can’t even blacklist it and resorted to blocking some people.
I really want to like Isogai like the ikemen he is, but that ship has affected my perception of him as a character and every time I see his face I want to… punch it. (Actually pretty much all the ships that involve Isogai makes him some really effeminate, submissive, typical yaoi uke, and it really grinds my gears.)
/rant over
Ship that I’m curious about: I would like to see more fanart of the lesser-known pairings in AssClass, like Takaoka x 2nd Gen God of Death, Mimura x Sugaya, and Terasaka x Takebayashi, which I’ve seen on here already (wink wink). Then there’s Kataoka x Yada, Muramatsu x Hara, Yuuji x Nagisa, etc.
