This 1900 home in Amity, New York is not a dreary old place. It's a fun, artsy, colorful and refreshed older home. 7bds, 3.5ba, $439K.
As soon as you enter, the first thing you see is a fun pink vestibule with a big flamingo.
And look at this big bright room. They gave the fireplace shiny white brick tiles and tropical wallpaper. The chairs have a big peacock feather pattern.
The dining room has pizzazz. The dark walls have contrasting white art with red chairs and drapes.
And, then you come to this magnificent fireplace that's original and pristine. It has embossed wallpaper painted a bright blue and a modern statue.
This room is lovely and has the best of modern and vintage.
The kitchen is a simple remodel, clean and bright.
Then look at the pretty purple powder room.
In the center hall there's a lovely mural and pretty floral carpet on the stairs.
This room has a lovely built-in corner unit.
Very cool retro bath. Look at the location of the tub faucets.
This large bedroom looks retro.
This room is so large, it has a table and chairs.
Here's another vintage bath.
Not sure, but this may be the primary bedroom. All of the rooms are very large.
I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a sitting room or another bedroom.
This is very interesting. It's a barn with a love.
And, this up in the loft. Isn't this covered outdoor part cute?

Summer after the traumatic end of the Triwizard Tournament, instead of Harry Potter getting visions of the latest evil plot from the Dark Lord, it is Voldemort who gets visions of The-Boy-Who-Livedâs childhood.
And theyâre not pleasant.
---
When Newt accepted to become one of Harry Potter's secret guard as a favor to Albus Dumbledore, he hadn't anticipated being faced with a choice concerning the welfare and safety of a child: obey Albus Dumbledore's orders or stay at Voldemort's side to protect Harry.
Though difficult, the right choice was clear.
------
TWELVE EXCERPT:
After lunch, Voldemort sent Harry to his room to put his things away and he was grateful for the escape. It would give him some much needed space to decompress and make sense of everything.
He stepped into his roomâhis room, yet another thing to get over. He shut the door behind himself and sighed. His bags were placed at the foot of the bed. He glanced around the room, frowning. It looked different now, less like a guest room. The walls had been repainted from bright white to a pale blue. Near the window, a space had been made for a tall perch with a water bowl, the deep blue carpet giving way to dark blue tile. Hedwig slept on her new perch with her head tucked beneath a wing.
Harry smiled at the new addition of a large comfy bean bag chair near the shelves of books, which seemed to have a bunch of new books added. As he drew closer to the shelves, he froze.
On one of the shelves sat three plushies: a teddy bear, a dragon, and a rabbit.
Harry crouched on the floor with his hands on his knees and stared up at them.
Thoseâthose were new.Â
They were not here before they left. Harry wouldâve noticed them, wouldâve wondered about them. Theyâd gone to the shops for clothes, but Voldemort had left Harry and Newt alone for awhile. Harry couldâve easily dismissed it as coincidence if the teddy bear hadnât been so similar to the one Dudley had been given when they were four years old. It couldâve been a coincidence if the dragon plushie wasnât identical to the one Harry had wanted for his birthday when he was five years old.
Voldemort had gotten these for him. That was the only thing that made sense.
But, no way, that was ridiculous.Â
Voldemort in a toy store? Laughable at best.
Harry sat back on his seat and crossed his legs. He continued to stare at them, unsure what to do. He didnât want to ask about them and be told they were decoration or something. Heâd have to leave them there. He didnât want to assume anything and be disappointed in the end.
Besides, it was just some plushies. No big deal.
Harry bit his lower lip.
He doesnât have any other kids around, right? Besides, Iâm not a little kid. Iâm nearly fifteen now. I donât need toys. Iâm almost grown up.
When he lifted his eyes away from the plushies, he noticed the other things now. There were two very large lego kits, a castle and a boat. A rubikâs cube sat next to two enormous 3D puzzles. There was also a black journal with a beautiful shiny pen next to it. A pen, not a quill and ink potâŠThere was a drawing pad with a set of drawing pencils. The newest books added were all nonmagical fiction books, some fantasy and some mystery. One book called The Velveteen Rabbit sat next to the rabbit plushie.
Harry covered half his face with his hands, still unable to remove his eyes from the collection of toys.
Toys.
Honest to god toys.
He was dreaming. Harry had to be dreaming now. First the clothes, now this? He squeezed his eyes shut, took a deep breath, and opened his eyes again.Â
Nope, they all were still there.
He rubbed his eyes. Yup, still there. Right. All right. So, Harry wasnât dreaming, then. Heâd died. Someone mustâve killed him, then. This was too good to be true. Uncle Vernon mustâve killed him. Hell, maybe Voldemort killed him.
Which meant⊠Was this heaven to Harry? Getting saved by Voldemort himself where Harry was given a room of his own, clothes on his back, and things to call his own?
Was this heaven, then?
âFuck,â muttered Harry, wiping at the tear that slipped through his control. âFuck. This canât be real.â

The Door to Nowhere
In a chamber of forethought, Gris vanishes.
Their consciousness fades and their corporeal tangibility becomes meaningless in an instant. The life they once experienced is a memory that will inevitably wash away into the infinite pool.
All the aforementioned precedents vanish. Gris sighs, their new sight hazed.
Clouds of verdant and mauve, serpents and groves; each piece of abstraction their brain pieces together for milliseconds before their vision clears.
Today, they stand tall. Today, they are a man.
His shoulders relax, his legs remain tense. He's standing. Around him, a large crowd of people talk amongst themselves. Every few ticks, they stagger towards the direction he was supposedly facing.
He stands in a hallway as thick as roughly five people if they lay flat on the floor, that of which is covered in blue carpet, just as the walls. Between the floor and walls are oddly-angled stairs, covered in the same carpet, no seams to be found. The ceiling breaks the pattern, an off-white tile, splattered with occasional faux dirt specks to help with the immersion. Peering above the many heads, he notices the hallway may be one-hundred steps until the presumed destination. Soon after he twists his body around, he feels very light-headed.
The hallway extends for what feels like forever. As it gets further away, it curves upward, completely disregarding gravity, if it were even there in the first place. Gris does not bode well with odd geometry, albeit the entirety of Nuuspace.
He turns back and grounds himself, focusing on his new body; black lax jeans, white ragged t-shirt, and an olive, loose-fit waxed cotton jacket.
There's a gap in front of him in-between the crowd, so he moves forward to close it.
Gris is not particularly used to looking down on others. Most of his bodies are petite. It can be assumed that his original body was closer to that size, considering the pattern. People prefer familiarity after all. However, this body is more burly and old than the others. Not too old, no, perhaps in its late thirties. But far out of the standard range of Gris' experiences. Whether it's one of his own or one that's preoccupied, he chooses to keep it as is.
He turns to his left to find a relatively young man; black hair, black jeans, gray crop-top. He scoots toward him.
"What are we doing?" He asks the young man, his new voice deep and soft.
"We?" The young man asks. "Well I'm waiting in line. What are you doing?"
"I'm waiting in line as well," He assumes. Gris looks toward the presumed destination. At the end of the hallway, there is a set of wide doors, but that's the extent that isn't abstracted by the crowd. Periodically, the doors open and close in an odd pattern. Perhaps, and more likely, it's a series of doors.
"What are you waiting in line for?" He asks the man.
"The edge of the universe." The young man verbalizes.
Gris ponders for a moment. "Is that⊠dangerous?"
The young man stands in line.
Gris sighs. He moves past the man, as those around him inch towards the door once again. Maneuvering through the crowd is hardly an inconvenience; although there are many people, there are no obstacles, and no obstructed paths. He moves toward the stairs on the sides; no guard rails and no separation from the floor or carpet. The stairs jut out from the floor like an odd extension of the hallway's body, while the carpet acts as its skin. They're rotated in a way that makes them feel more like spikes, a rather unorthodox design for something that is presumed to be traversed.
And yet, Gris' curiosity bests him. He walks onto the stairs, and loses his balance, falling to the ground. He quickly regains his footing, only to realize that everyone else is standing on what seems to be a slope. It's as if his and their gravity are separate, relative to the surface they're standing on. The stairs are no longer at an angle, the hallway is.
The doors at the end of the hallway are now at the bottom of the stairs. There is no longer a queue for Gris, if there ever was one in the first place.
Down the stairs, passing each soul. Each in their own world, in their own space, slowly inching towards their supposed destination; none bat an eye. There are no obstacles, there is no trouble. There is nothing stopping them from getting to where they want. What is it that they're waiting for?
He arrives. The wall at the end houses a series of doors, each identical, laid out next to each other in a row. No one comes through, they only enter. Door opens, one enters, door closes. Again. And again. And again.
Gris steps off the stairs. His gravity returns to normal, flinging him upright. The vertigo sends a wave of nausea through his body from top to bottom.
One door remains stillâno one enters. As if the door is waiting for him. He approaches the door and caresses the cold wood surface, moving his hand down to grasp the door knob. Ice cold.
For but a moment, he forgets that his body is not his own. Whether this was the door his host was meant to be in or not, this was the door for him. He opens it and walks through.
All that lay ahead is the hallway he just stood in. Nothing more, but so much less. No one stands in the room, waiting. No one stands in the room, moving forward. He turns the other way. The door is gone.
All of that curiosity, all for nothing. The anticipation. The waiting. Just for it to end in absolutely nothing, in absolutely nowhere.
His consciousness begins to fade. His time is up. Ended so perfectly at this moment, as if destined to be.
From here to there, and inevitably everywhere, Gris will continue their journey until the end of time itself. Changing lives, creating new ones. Injecting new points into stories, and retconning old ones. All at random, forever and ever.
As Gris leaves the man behind to deal with the actions of his possessor's consequences, they enter an echo chamber. Doubt, regret, sorrow. Remorse.
All the aforementioned precedents vanish.
And they begin anew once more.

Honeymoon|part 1

[dark!trailerpark!Jake x neighbour!Reader]
[warnings: Jake Jensen being flirty?, 6'5 Jake he's a big nerd that's buff, There's not much this chapter đ he's just a sweet baby to you]
Living in the trailer park could sometimes be unforgiving. But that was only to those who didn't dwell there. For you it was home. You knew the ins and outs of the park and who lived where. In your eyes, it was a close knit community where everyone was safe and loved. Almost like a big family.
You lived closest to the front near the entrance of the park. You liked this spot it was in front of Oldman Linton. He was one of your favourite neighbours as he always came back with some wool after he went shopping and all he asked for in return was a cup of tea, as he claimed yours were the best.
You lived simple here, all your needs were easily met and there was a huge shop about a 20 minute drive away which you could easily get the bus to.
Your job was one you adored and took pride in. You made clothing and blankets for people. They merely had to message you online, specify what they wanted. And then when you'd made it, they'd send the money and you'd send the item. It made working from home so much easier. You were truly happy as it felt like you were blessed with a quaint life which anyone humble would be jealous of.
Your trailer was perfect too. You had a cute swinging bench outside which were perfect for looking at the sun setting after a long day of sewing and crocheting and everything else.
Inside though was cozy and cute, at least that's the words Linton used. The entire floor of the trailer was covered in a white fluffy carpet, except the kitchen and bathroom which had pink tiles. You had a small pink over and microwave. Infact your entire kitchen was pink! It made your life sweeter which you adored. Your bed was a small single one, decorated in throw pillows and extra blankets as it was starting to get cold. And ofcourse on your bed layed lila. Your bunny stuffy which you took with you when you moved out of your parents house. It truly tied your trailer together.
Yet your peacefulness was disturbed this morning by a loud road of an engine. One that belonged on a fierce motorbike which was always accompanied by a fierce man. However you decided to explore anyway, as you'd heard rumors of someone moving into the trailer directly next to yours meaning a new neighbor who you could ask for sugar when you ran out when baking cupcakes.
You opened your door and the engine cut off. You stepped outside clad only in your thin white nightdress and a dressing gown. You watched a man get off the bike and take his helmet off when he turned to you, making you breath catch in you throat. He was beautiful. His blonde hair was short, he had a strange beard yet it suited his face perfectly, plump pink lips and the prettiest blue eyes you think you'd ever had the honour of gazing at. And then you did a double take as you saw how big he was. He was massive! He looked to be 6'5! His height and how muscly he was made your knees shake yet you decided to blame that on the cold breeze that just swept by that snapped you out of your stupor.
You were none the wiser to the man also taking you in, admiring the craftsmanship of your body. From every curve that shaped you to each dent that formed you, he was undeniably attracted to you. After you both had explored each other with your eyes, your face broke into a smile making his heart race slightly over how you looked like sunshine and sweetness on a stick. You walked over to the edge of the decking of your trailer so that you could be closer and you looked down slightly and spoke.
"Hi there! Are you moving in?"
"I am indeed, I take it your my neighbour."
"I am, just a warning I'll probably be popping by a lot to ask for sugar but I'll always repay you with one of my cookies or cupcakes."
"Well sweetness, I think that we're gonna be very good neighbors and excellent friends then because I have an incredibly sweet tooth. I'm surprised my teeth are rotting from talking to you. My name's Jake."
You blushed at his words, he was so flirtious that you couldn't do anything but blush. He'd knocked you off your feet with his overwhelming compliment of how sweet he thought you seemed. After regaining your thoughts you smiled at him and told him your name to which he hummed and said,
"Yeah it matches you sugar. Pretty name for a pretty girl."
To which you blushed again at. You smiled at him and spoke getting acquainted with him while he was putting his boxes in his deck getting ready to move in. You rounded him to be nerdy but you thought it to be cute how smart he can be. It reminded you to never ask him to play chess as he would ultimately destroy you within at least 5 moves.
You also thought him funny and sweet, the entire time you were speaking he was flirting with you and making you giggle. Yes you liked your new neighbor. He was so attractive and sweet. What more could you ask from someone. You decided to retire back to your home so you could begin on an order which was a Cardigan that had teddy bears and clouds on it. You thought it to be utterly adorable and you were almost finished. You just had to add buttons on it and make sure it wasn't loose anywhere. So you bid goodbye to Jake and wished him luck with unpacking.
After an hour or two, you weren't quite sure time seemed to get sucked into a pit of nothingness when you were working, you finished the cardigan! You decided to try it on and see if there were any faults in the fabric, yet there were none. You decided you would keep in on to keep you warm while you went out to stretch your legs.
As you went out, you saw Jake sweating from carrying all those boxes adorned in a pink t-shirt that read 'Go Petunias!'. You found it adorable. Jake caught you staring and decided to break you out of your thoughts by explaining the top;
"It's my niece's football team."
"Huh?"
He chuckled and pointed at his top. He saw your face flush at being caught staring at his chest and the shirt he wore.
"Yeah she's in the playoffs. She's a great kid. Gotta show support for the teams or else I'd be a real crappy cheerleader."
You giggled at him, "Well you're definitely the best cheerleader I've seen. It's cute, I love it."
Jake smiled as the blush hit his cheeks, "thanks sugar, maybe you can be my cheerleader. Ya know, support me when I'm tired from cheering."
You both broke out into laughter at this notion but you knew deep down you would if he asked you to. You already trusted him purely from how kind he seemed. Maybe that's why so many people called you gullible. You were oblivious to the idea he could be a bad man, all you saw was the sun radiating from his smile, not the blood that was splattered on his face from the past.
As you were once again suffocating yourself in the idea of you and Jake, he noticed that you had changed your fluffy dressing gown for a cute cardigan that had bears and clouds decorating it. He thought it was adorable, you truly were sugary sweetness just wrapped in anything cute and cuddly.
"I like your cardigan, where did you get it, I'm sure I can add it to my cheerleader uniform."
"Oh! I made it haha, I'm just trying to wear it in so there's nothing wrong before I send it away!"
"Wow, you made that. Damn. Is it a hobby?"
"Oh no it's my job! People can put orders online and stuff. And I make it! From blankets to dresses, I do it all. When I've made it they send the money and I send it off!"
Jake was in awe, you would make a perfect little house wife. You could cook and bake, and now you can make clothes. He was mesmerized by everything about you. His mouth spoke then before his mind could stop him;
"Ya know sugar, if you ever need anything fixing in your trailer just make me a new sweater and it's fixed!"
You giggled at him but noted it down. You were going to make him a sweater that had a cupcake on it. You knew he'd like it from how he kept calling you sugar, he liked the sweet stuff in life. And you were determined to wrap him in your own personal version of sweetness.
"I'll keep that in mind Jake! I've gotta go but it's super awesome having you as my neighbour!"
"And you too sugar. You need anything doing online, let me know okay?"
"Okay." And with that you saw him smile before you turned and your face painted it's own smile with a matching blush on your cheeks. No time for flirting, you thought. You had to notify the girl online you made her item and get your money!
Ever since then you had been working on the sweater for Jake, trying to make it perfect so he could stay warm during this cold time and also look handsomely cute too. All the while you would bump into him every morning and you would invite him to sit with you on your bench with a cup of tea or coffee each.
You adored the mornings with him, his voice would still be gruff from just waking up and he'd be so soft, retelling stories of when he was in different countries yet never telling you his job leaving you to ponder his secret. Yet you liked the mystery, he was like a nerdy James Bond in your mind and you used that idea in your fantasies far too often when making his sweater.
It was a month later when you had almost finished the sweater, yet you needed a break. And decided you needed to go shopping. So you grabbed your purse and some bags so you carry your shopping home on the bus and began on your journey.
You were dressed in a small lilac dress which had small white flowers swirling all over it. You matched it with a purple jacket you bought years ago. It was aged but it was still so pretty to you as the buttons were little roses and were decorated to beautifully. You cherished it especially with this dress.
As you got off the bus, you began on your small walk to store and just as you were pulling a trolley out of the lot you heard a gentle shout of your name. You turned and saw Jake with a flush on his cheeks from what you assumed was his jog. He beamed at you.
"Hey there cupcake, didn't know you were shopping today, if I did I would have offered you a ride."
"I decided I needed to stretch my legs before I let my project consume me as well as my work. Plus I think I might bake some cookies!" You flashed him an excited smile as you spoke to him.
Jake could have swore he almost had a heart attack from your pretty smile but instead decided he wanted to extend you two hanging out for as long as possible as he adored your optimistic presence. It's something that he didn't have a lot with his line of work. So he was bathing in the loveliness while he could.
"Come on sugar, give me that. I'll help you and then I can give you a lift home on my bike."
As Jake intercepted you and took the trolley, you froze and let out a squeak to which he immediately looked down at you in concern.
"What's wrong sugar?"
"I've never been on a motorbike! And I'm scared so I- I'll just get the bus!"
"No, no, no. Angel you're gonna ride the bike with me, I promise I'll keep you safe and I'll even drive super slow okay?"
After a moments pause, you sighed and puffed your cheeks out
"O-okay."
"Atta girl! You'll be fine angel I promise."
As you were going down the food isles nattering about the new order you got of a skirt which was long and black yet had little purple flowers on it, you looked and saw him smiling.
"Why are you smiling Jakey?"
"Because sugar you're so lovely to be around. In my line of work I'm used to sour and bitter things but you're so sweet. I'm so glad I'm retired, it makes me appreciate sweet things like you."
You blushed heavily at his words. You felt overjoyed that he appreciated you, he truly thought you were sweet and you couldn't help but let that get to your head bit. Yet as you were basking in the compliment Jake had kindly given you, you looked and saw him gazing at a woman across from you and you immediately turned to look. And with that your heart fell and crumbled quickly. She was the opposite of you completely and you could tell Jake was attracted from how he scanned her up and down.
You felt so stupid ofcourse you weren't his type. You're too trusting! You need to stop getting caught up in fantasy and instead focus on reality which is where he only saw you as his friend. With a heavy sigh you swallowed you fragmented heart and set off down the ilse slowly so Jake wouldn't think anything was wrong.
You decided to bite the bullet and ask the question,
"So do you have your eye on any lucky ladies?"
He let out a loud hearty chuckle making you confused on if he was or not. After clearing his throat he smiled and answered you in an amused tone,
"I don't sugar, but I'll definitely let you know if I do. Maybe you can tell me if you think they're nice or not hmm?"
With that said your fears were wiped free and you felt a calmness settle in your heart and you began nattering again to him about what to bake when you get home which he would eagerly reply with a joke of asking to taste test your baked delights.
As you were at the checkout, Jake told you to start packing the bags and ofcourse you followed his order, he had a domainating aura around him which you surrendered to every time. You were clueless to him getting his wallet out until it was too late.
As you were carrying your bags you began walking fast upset. Jake immediately noticed and caught up stopping you.
"Hey sugar what's wrong? I thought I was biking you back home?"
You puffed your cheeks out and with tears in your eyes you poked at his chest angrily and spoke,
"You shouldn't have paid! It was my stuff and now I feel like I have to pay you back and I don't want to! I worked hard to be independent and now everyone's gonna think I'm codependent on you!"
After you angry words, tears streamed down your face which Jake quickly wiped away with his large hand. He soothed your thoughts before they could wreak further havoc in your sweet little mind.
"I'm sorry angel, but I promise you, you don't. And even if you think so, then think of you as being my friend payment enough. It's amazing to have someone to talk to again honestly. And no one's gonna think that sugar. Everyone knows how amazing you are. Okay? Just don't let this get to your head baby, it's not worth it."
After his sweet words he kissed your forehead and you began your walk back to his bike where he put all your shopping in a large back pack and helped you put it on before placing a helmet on your head. He got on in front of you and you instantly wrapped you arms around his waist tightly in fear. And then you were off.
You will admit it was nice, and you were safe, after everything you ended up baking cupcakes and brought him a freshly decorated one before quickly going to Linton's and giving him one too, where you stayed to talk to him about your new projects. All in all you would say it was a fun day.
It was 2 weeks later when your fridge broke and your sink started leaking. You had no other option but to ask Jake for help. However you finished the sweater last week and you were proud of yourself. It was a dark blue and on the chest it had a cupcake on it and underneath it had the words sugar on it in white writing. It was definitely cute and you loved it.
Swallowing your anxiety down, you took a breath and grabbed the neatly folded sweater before heading to Jake's trailer. You gently knocked on the door 3 times before he answered it. Wearing only a pair of loose tan pants. His well built torso on display. You would have oogled him yet you were too busy worrying about the leak in your kitchen spreading to you fluff carpet. So you pushed your arms out with the sweater held in it and spoke quickly,
"You said if I ever had any problems in my trailer you'd fix them if I made you a sweater! So I made one and I urgently need your help, pretty please."
Jensen was taken aback by the fact that you had taken his words seriously, and he could feel his heart melt for you. You were perfect, truly. He knew then he wanted you as his little wife. You made him a damn sweater just so he would help you. What would you do when your married, would you make him special blankets? Would you make clothes for your babies? How many kids would-
His thoughts were cut out by you whispering please and giving him puppy dog eyes. He was a slave to you right then and there. So he simply nodded and took the sweater from your arms and placed it on the counter next to his door before he followed you, rushing to your trailer.
Within minutes you were explained the problem and within seconds he had appeared with a tool box and began working. Relieved of your temporary stress you sighed and got back to your own work. You were now making a cute white dress that had long puffy sleeves and was corset like. It was honestly one of your most beautiful works. You were going to call it the butterfly dress due to the neckline looking almost like butterfly wings.
As you both continued working, you allowed idle talk to fill the air, Jake was asking about your love life to which you simply giggled and said you didn't have one, further making Jake want you to be his. The more you two spoke the more determined Jake was to have you as his in name, in body, mind, soul and heart.
After he fixed everything he stood behind you as you were working on the bodice of the dress and he leaned down and kissed your head whispering sweetly not to work too hard. You could feel your heart explode with happiness over how kind Jake was.
As you were about to continue working, Jake interrupted your thoughts just as he was leaving,
"Oh angel remember a while back, you asked if I had my eye on anyone?"
You felt your heart dip into your throat in anxiousness over fear that your silly little crush was to be over in seconds.
"Y-yeah."
"Well I do now." But before your heart could break he flashed you a cheeky smile and a wink. Making you blush heavily. It was official you liked Jake Jensen, and you think he liked you too.

Pester the Jester
A Ragapom fic based off the song "Pester the Jester"
Don't know why I'm still searching.Â
The door slams. Footsteps trudge to the next door. A blue gloved hand reaches out and turns the knob.Â
Don't know why I'm even looking.Â
Door opens. Not an exit. Door slams.Â
For a way to get back home again.Â
I reach for the next door, only to find there were no more. I slowly turn, feet shuffling on the red carpet. I had checked every single door in this long hallway. One of many hallways. Every door was empty of the one thing I wanted. My feet move in slow, mechanical movements. Down the hall back the way I had come. Into the main area. Into another hall. Into my room. Again. A hand that is mine but doesn't feel like it locks the door behind me. Again. I drag myself over to my bed, falling face-first into the soft blanket. But that was ok. Because I didn't need to breathe, did I? After all, this was just a game. A sick, twisted game.
I jerk out of my thoughts as a soft knock comes from my door. "Darling? Are you ok?" A voice asks from the other side, muffled but still clear with concern. Her voice "Feeling fine." I lie loudly, not bothering to raise my head off the bed, so it comes out sounding distorted. But, now that I said that, I realize...I kind of did feel better now. But I didn't know why.Â
There was just something about her, something about the ragdoll that made me want to beg with my hands on the floor for her to drag me by the arm out of these dark spiraling thoughts, to give me all her charm, to tell me I would always be hers. Inside, I was craving her, craving another hit of that, of just hearing her voice, or seeing her smile, or her touching my shoulder for a brief moment before pulling away as she remembered I didn't like being touched, even though I didn't mind being touched by her. Honestly, she was like an angel, I was crazy for her. I growl in frustration into a pillow, annoyed by my own pestering thoughts. But then suddenly, I wasn't holding a pillow, and I wasn't in my room.Â
I was also currently defying the laws of gravit-Â
"OMPH!" Nevermind. I wince as I hit the ground full-force on my face, the black and white tiled floor hard enough the crack my teeth, or my skull. "Pomni, are you ok?" A soft voice asks, sounding a bit startled.Â
I raise my head slowly, pupils now spinning spirals as the world slowly settles back into focus. I blink hard a few times, disoriented. I had been teleported to the main area of the circus, in front of the stage, along with the other 5 people trapped in this hell with me. I slowly stand up, shaking my still-fuzzy head in an attempt to clear it and look across from me to the owner of that soft voice. "Y-yeah..." I mumble, quickly glancing away.
 "Are you su-"Â
"Yeah." The ragdoll nods, but she obviously didn't believe me, because she hadn't just been asking about my fall. Her eye was filled with concern, worried over me. But why? Why would she want to waste of time on me? I look away, only to sneak another look at the beautiful doll. I don't know why I'm looking, don't know why I feel the need to stare, whenever she's near me.
"GOODNIGHT MY SUPERSTARS!" A voice booms, making me jump. Caine materialized in the air above us all, hovering there as he beamed at us- at least I thought he did. It was hard to tell, you know with him just being...teeth. "It's noon." Jax grumbles, narrowing his sickly yellow eyes at the deranged ringmaster. "WELL THEN, GOODNOON MY SUPERSTARS!" The purple rabbit's permanent smirk shrunk in annoyance, but he didn't comment any further. "TODAYS ADVENTURE IS GOING TO BE THE BEST ONE YET!" The pair of teeth shouts. Theres a few mumbles of irritation around the room, but it settles down quickly. "TODAY, I HAVE A SPECIAL SCAVENGER HUNT PREPARED! I HAVE RELEASED ALL OF KINGERS INSECTS LOOSE INTO THE CIRCUS!" I hear Ragatha make a strangled noise in the back of her throat. "YES, RAGATHA, I MEAN ALL OF THEM! YOU MUST CATCH ALL THE INSECTS AND PUT THEM IN THE JARS I WILL GRACIOUSLY PROVIDE! THE PERSON WHO COLLECTS THE MOST INSECTS WILL GET A PRIZE!" The ringmaster proclaims. "SO GOOD LUCK, AND HAVE FUN MY LITTLE SUPERSTARS!" He disappears in a cloud of smoke. There's a moment of silence, before Jax bursts out laughing.Â
"Ah, God, this will be a fun adventure!" He wheezes, glancing at the ragdoll, who's single black eye was darting around in panic, body tensed up. I cringe a little, remembering the dolls fear of centipedes. Gangle gives Ragatha a sympathetic look. "I-its ok Ragatha. I-I'm pretty sure Kinger only had a few centipedes in his collection." She whispers, the tears on her mask falling to the ground when the doll whimpers slightly.Â
"I have exactly 3 centipedes!" The chess piece blurts. I yelp and flinch away from him, having not realized he was standing next to me. "Their names are Omi, Anni, and Sepa! Did you know that centipedes can climb up walls and ceilings at up to 24 miles per hour!?"Â Ragatha's eye widens and her breathing hitches as her panicked gaze darted to the king piece. He blinks his wide blue eyes and he looks around, suddenly baffled. "...Where am I? Whats a fork!?!"Â
I eye him nervously as Ragatha walks towards me, managing a weak smile. "Hey Pomni, do you want to look for the insects together?" She asked, seeming to have gotten a hold of herself, though she still kept glancing at the floor as she walked, looking out for the 13-legged bugs. I nod, shooting her a smile back. Of course she wanted to work with me. Over the past few weeks, we had basically become a pair, always doing adventures together, me to get them over with and Ragatha out of genuine interest. Though, I was still confused on why she wanted to stick with me and not, say, Gangle. I mean, I was assuming she had started pairing up with me because of my little mental breakdowns, but I hadn't had any for about a week (at least, not where anyone could see), so why not stick with someone else?Â
"Pomni?" The concerned voice dragged me out of my thoughts, and I realized I hadn't answered the doll. "Yeah, of course!" I stutter, feeling my face begin to tingle, and getting a bit light headed. She smiles at me, and I look away quickly.Â
"^!#!!" I whisper under my breath, cringing when a loud honking noise comes out instead of the swearword. Ragatha frowns at me. "Hm?"Â
"Ugh, he didn't even give us the jars to catch the dumb insects with!" Zooble interrupts, saving me from having to respond to Ragatha. They cross their arms and pace a few steps, as a pile of jars appears in the air right over their head, hovering for a moment before crashing down on top of them with comedic sounds. Everyone gasps and cringes (except Jax, who laughs his ass off, and Kinger who just screams) and rushes to check on them. "I'm....fine..." The jumble of shapes insists, dragging themselves out from the pile, only to discover they were missing a leg and turning back around, digging through the now-shattered jars to find their limb and ignoring everyones offer of help. "Well... I guess we should get to finding those...bugs..." Ragatha says, voice trailing off nervously at the end. I nod and follow her, noting how tense the ragdoll was. We only walk for a few minutes before-Â
"ACK!" Ragatha screeches, stumbling backwards and grabbing my arm tightly. I jump, panicked at her sudden movement and scream. "Wha-" I start to ask, before spotting the source of her distress. A spider was crawling idly along the wall near her, making it's way to God knows where. I automatically punch it, smushing it into a black stain. I shudder and try to wipe the black mark off my blue glove. I freeze when I realize the doll was still clutching my arm, almost painfully tight. "S-sorry about that Pomni..." She mumbles sheepishly. "I...thought it was a centipede..." I nod absently, staring at her hand clutching my arm. She follows the direction of my gaze, quickly letting go. "Sorry, I forgot you didn't like touch." She blurts hurriedly, rubbing her own arm awkwardly. I nod and start walking again, face heating up. She was right. Normally I despised physical contact, but this time it was...different. It still felt a bit wrong, still made me feel a bit itchy, but overall it was...nice. Honestly, I would do anything for her to just hold my arm like that, would beg with my hands on the floor. I sneak a glance at the pretty doll, feeling strangely charmed by her awkward arm-rubbing, her slow swaying gait. We walk in silence, with me subtly killing a few more insects we encountered whenever I spotted one. I knew the point of the adventure was to capture them, but we didn't have anything to trap them in, and I didn't think carrying around jars filled with bugs would help with Ragatha's fear anyways. Iâm just punching another one when suddenly the lights blink off. I sigh. Of course they did. Why wouldnât they?Â
âYou ok?â I ask Ragatha, relaxing when I hear the ragdoll murmur that she was. We continue without a word. "H-hey Pomni..." She says quietly. "Hm?" "Can I ah....can I hold your hand?" She ducks her head a little as the words come out of her mouth. âI know you're not big on touch, but I keep feeling like there's centipedes crawling all over me.â The last words are barely audible.I glance over at her, barely able to make out her form in the dark.Â
â...Yeah.â I say, reaching over to her. My hand hovers uncertainty near hers for a moment, before gently gripping it. I feel her flinch, it pulling away from my grasp for a moment before relaxing again. We venture forward into the darkness, taking comfort in each other's presence.Â
It feels like hours before we finally reach an area of the circus where the lights are working. But on the bad side, it looked like a maze. I make a small noise of frustration in the back of my throat. âWell, at least we can see now!â The ragdoll says brightly, plastering a smile on her face. I nod as she walks forward, seeming a bit more confident now as she unintentionally drags me forward with her, still clutching my hand. I stare at her hand in mine, a bit puzzled. Why? The lights were back. She didnât have to keep holding my hand. I just couldnât comprehend the reason why she still wanted to hold my hand.Â
She glances back at me, seemingly confused on why I wasnât walking with her. She follows my gaze, looking at our hands.Â
âYouâŠdonât mind if I keep holding your hand, do you?â She asks. The words come out slowly, hesitant. âYou donât have to, I know you donât like- sorry.â She says, slipping her hand from mine.Â
âNo!â The word passes my lips without my consent. âI mean- no, I donât mind. You can keep holding it.âÂ
The dollâs eye widens in surprise, before sliding her hand back into mine. We both stare at each other before looking away, feeling my face heat up as she leads me to the beginning of the maze. Why did she want to keep holding my hand? I mean, it seemed a bitâŠ
We were just friends.
Right?
The silence continues, though now it seemed more malevolent, pressing against me, suffocating me as I try to sort through my thoughts.Â
âPomniâŠâ
âHm?â
The ragdoll stops, turning towards me. âTheresâŠâ She stops, taking a deep breath. âThere's something Iâve been wanting to tell you for a while- or ask, I mean.â She stumbles over her words, which was out of character for the doll.Â
âSinceâŠI mean, for a while now⊠WeâŠyouâŠâ She stammers, before shaking her head violently, sighing.Â
â...I like you.â She blurts. âWhat Iâm trying to say is, I like you, as in more than a friend and-â She pauses, black eye studying me, trying to gauge my reaction. â...I just want to know if you feel the same way.âÂ
I freeze up, stunned. Because her words, they just confused me with the way they made all these giddy feelings bubble up, the way she wooed me.Â
âButâŠwhy?â I whisper softly.
âW-what?â
I take a step back, feeling the giddy emotions being replaced with darker ones, drowning them out.Â
âWhy do you like me? I mean, I left you with Kaufmo that first day, I-I hurt you. You were in pain, and I just left you there.â My breathing quickens as panic fills me, confusion and misery, worthlessness and shame join in the fun, taunting me, drowning me as my voice gets louder, tears clogging my throat. Ragatha watches me with a wide eye, taking a step toward me with an arm outstretched, ready to give comfort I didnât deserve.
âI mean, why should you even bother? Iâm just a lamb left to the slaughter!â I laugh hysterically, hands rising up and tearing at the dumb hat on my head, yanking on the ends. âIâm the most fragile, the one whoâs going to end up abstracting soon, SO WHY EVEN BOTHER CARING ABOUT ME?!â The last words rip themselves out of me as a scream. I pant, trying to catch my breath. âI justâŠdonât know why.â My legs tremble as exhaustion suddenly overwhelms me. âCould you please tell me why?â I close my eyes, letting myself slump to the floor on my knees. Tears leak from my eyes as there's a long beat of silence, broken by the sound of soft plush feet making their way towards me. I hear the sound of cloth rubbing against fabric as she sits down in front of me.Â
âJustâŠwhy?â I whisper. Why would this amazing, kind, beautiful girl want me of all people? Why would she want me to be hers? The quiet stretches on, any hope I had being diminished by it. Then, suddenly, I feel plush hands on my shoulders. I open my teary eyes, lifting my head to look at this beautiful, sweet girl. She opens her mouth, but for once she doesnât seem to know what to say. Wet pinwheel pupils stare into a wide black eye as he hands trail up from my shoulders to my face, cradling it. She wipes a tear from my cheek as she leans in slowly, hesitantly, pausing with her face just a centimeter away from mine. She hovers there for a moment, before seeming to gather every last scrap of her courage and pressing her lips to mine.Â
My eyes widen in shock as soft, sweet lips make contact with mine. For a moment Iâm just completely confused, all the emotions in me warring with each other. But slowly, the good feelings win, pushing out the darker, deadlier ones as I close my eyes and lean into the kiss, raising a hand to press the dolls more firmly against my cheek. I trace idle circles on the back of her hand as the kiss deepens. All too soon, it ends, both of us pulling away, breathing hard as my pulse jumps and skitters nervously. We stare at each other with shell-shocked eyes. I was already craving another kiss even though I know I donât deserve this, as I try to shove this feeling below surface.Â
âThat wasâŠâ We both murmur at the same time, giggling nervously at how our voices blended together. We glance away from each other, cheeks red as I feel the need creep over me, the need for another hit of this.Â
âC-couldnât I get another kiss?â I murmur, pinwheel pupils flicking towards the doll. She just smiles and leans towards me, pulling me into her as our lips meet each other again.
Oh, how she pestered the jester,
She pestered the jester,
Pestered the jester with this.

Let's (re)Read The Dragon Reborn! Chapter 24: Scouting and Discoveries
Spoilers. Unending spoilers. Don't look.
We have the dice icon here because it's a Mat chapter. Not a lot going on luckwise, except a particularly chance encounter.
Two serving women came bustling with hot water and a tray heavy with food, laughing and telling him how much better he looked already, and how soon he would be back on his feet if he did what the Aes Sedai told him.
Mat is a rather compulsively defiant guy at times, so I don't think he'd like hearing this about any group, let alone one that he's naturally suspicious of.
Opening the door, he peeked out. More doors paneled in pale, golden wood lined the hall, with colorful tapestries between, and a runner of blue carpet ran down the white-tiled floor. But there was no one out there. No guard.
Probably best for Mat to learn now that just because there's no one around doesn't mean there's no guard.
Sheâs a pretty one, even if she does have her nose in the air half the time.
Thus was born both the more straightforward fandom polycule where the various canonical romances take place but also Mat and Elayne hook up, and the gayer one where Mat joins the polycule (often outright replacing Min, since I guess his losing an eye makes him a better fit for the crone). I'm not a shipping type but I could see it I guess.
As they worked they talked and laughed among themselves like men after the harvest. Now and again one of them looked curiously at Mat as he strolled among them, but none challenged his right to be there.
Mat does not clue into the fact that he's interesting to them because they all know who he is and how unusual his circumstances are.
âWhitecloaks do be poking their noses into every village for ten miles. They have no hurt anyone yet, but them just being there do upset the folk. Fortune prick me if I do no think they wish to provoke us, for they do look as if they would attack if they could. No good for anyone who do want to travel.â
This guard almost certainly has the right of it. The Whitecloaks would love an excuse to scream about Aes Sedai brutality.
But you do have the look of the fellow who did try to sell me the Horn of Valere three days gone. So he did claim it did be, all bent and battered as it did be. Do you have a Horn of Valere to sell?
If Mat could sell off his connection to the Horn, he absolutely would.
He had simply meant to find out how well his description had been passed around. If only the officers among the bridge guards had had it, he might have been able to slip by. He had always been good at slipping into places unseen. And out. It was a talent you developed when your mother always suspected you were up to some mischief and you had two sisters to tell on you.
If you think this is oddly bad luck on Mat's part, it isn't! It's good luck that he didn't have a chance to try and sneak out across the bridge or he would have missed Thom altogether and would never have made it to Caemlyn or Tear in time.
A girl in novice white appeared ahead on the path, striding purposefully toward him. Wrapped in her own thoughts, she did not see him at first.
No, it's Lanfear who's having bad luck, because this is her in disguise.
Her manner was not as he remembered, either; he thought she could give Elayne lessons now. âI have . . . work to be about. Let me by.â
Lanfear's surprisingly bad at this. Of course, she probably picked Else on the grounds that no one would know her all that well or care if they saw her.
He was not the only audience. Not ten paces from him, half a dozen women with ageless Aes Sedai faces and as many more in the banded white dresses of the Accepted stood watching one pair of students, bare to the waist and slick with sweat, under the guidance of a Warder shaped much like a block of stone.
Get a grip ladies! It's just two sexy and half-naked twenty-something dudes beating the shit out of each other- Excuse me. I need five minutes.
The golden-haired man met every lightning attack, turning it away before the bound strips could strike him, and even launched an occasional attack of his own. But the handsome fellow countered those attacks and flowed back into his own in the space of a heartbeat.
This ends up being foreshadowing for who survives the Demandred duels and who doesn't, I suppose.
âYou can rest till I finish my pipe. But rest fast; I am almost in the dottle.â
"Dottle" is the stuff left over in the pipe after you've smoked; the ashes and anything that didn't fully burn.
Egwene blushed whenever Galad was mentioned, though she seemed to think no one noticed.
Another orphaned reference to the intended man Egwene would end up with.
âI do have a sense of humor, Gawyn,â Galad said with a frown. âYou only think I do not because I do not care to mock people.â
I wonder who it is that Gawyn tried to mock with Galad. Of course, since the answer is ultimately, "the palace staff or the people", it doesn't paint a great picture of Gawyn regardless.
Perhaps it was that they both clearly thought he was making a wild boast. Perhaps it was because he had mishandled questioning the guardsman. Perhaps it was because Else, who had such an eye for the boys, wanted nothing to do with him, and all those women were staring at Galad like cats watching a jug of cream. Aes Sedai and Accepted or not, they were still women. All these explanations ran through Matâs head, but he rejected them angrily, especially the last. He was going to do it because it would be fun.
They're all true. Mat does want to have fun because he's feeling so thwarted and cooped up, he's jealous of the positive attention the boys are getting, and he wants to show off.
The Warder eyed Mat up and down doubtfully. âAre you sure youâre up to this, lad? Now I take a close look at you, you ought to be in a sickbed.â
Hammar might be down to shame the fuck out of these princes, but he's a good enough guy that he doesn't want to send Mat back in for more Healing if it can be helped.
Hammar gave him an odd look. âYou speak the Old Tongue, lad?â
Mat's subconscious Old Tongue usage treats this practice fight as exactly as serious as a pitched battle against Trollocs and that's fucking hilarious. Also I'm pretty sure that this is the first usage of Mat's catchphrase, "Dovie'andi se tovya sagain," except of course we only get the translated version this time.
Galad hesitated a moment more before growling, âDone, then. Let us put an end to this farce.â
Even Galad has a point where he won't stick to his niceties.
But he could feel it creeping back in, the wobbly feeling, the hunger as if he had not eaten for days.
The Wheel's pretty clearly trying to teach Mat not to be the hesitant type, considering how many circumstances he's going to end up in later on.
With a groan, Galad folded over, fighting not to fall. The staff quivered in Matâs hands, on the point of a final crushing thrust to the throat. Galad sank to the ground.
Again, Mat is taking this fight far more seriously than he really should be. Normally he's not the guy who has trouble restraining himself against opponents he shouldn't be killing.
âDuring his lifetime, Jearom fought over ten thousand times, in battle and single combat. He was defeated once. By a farmer with a quarterstaff! Remember that. Remember what you just saw.â
This theme that nothing and no one is truly unbeatable comes up a bit in Jordan's work - Rand might be the Dragon Reborn and the savior, but that doesn't mean he'll win all his campaigns, the Seanchan's Ever-Victorious Army runs into its own problems, everyone who gets into combat runs into someone who can kick their ass.
âNot as good as my da. Heâs won the quarterstaff at Bel Tine every year as long as I can remember, except once or twice when Randâs da did.â That interested look came back into Gawynâs eyes, and Mat wished he had never mentioned Tam alâThor.
Mat will never learn to control his tongue, even though this is a great object lesson in why he should. I don't think the Wheel was trying to prep him otherwise though, more like giving him a foreshadowing of the problems that will haunt him all his launt.
âIt doesnât matter. Just rest assured that the worst Galad has to worry about is finding himself Warder to a Green Aes Sedai before his head clears.â He laughed. âNo, they would not do that. But I will wager you those two marks of mine in your hand that some of them wish they could.â
This sets up how messed up it's going to be when Alanna takes Rand as a Warder, though Gawyn is rather flippant about it. He's in the right demographic to be flippant about sexual assault though, so that's just in-character.
âManetheren.â Mat froze when he heard the name come out of his mouth. âI mean, Iâm from the Two Rivers. I have heard too many old stories.â
Considering that Mat probably recently had a different life in Manetheren... Ah well. Boy couldn't even control his mouth if he wanted to.

The Twin
It was a cloudy day this morning when i woke up not knowing what to expect of today just knowing i have that mystery dinner tonight with my friends about a week ago we received invites to a mysterious dinner and we decided we wanted to go we had no clue who sent the invites i didn't know if it was a good idea with my black outs happening more frequently and me waking up in random spots but i decided to go anyway because my best friend ivory convinced me to go as i brush my teeth it happens i blink and suddenly i'm dressed in my cloths a pink and white letterman jacket with a black shirt and blue jeans. I'm so confused and worried for tonight hoping i don't have one i grab my keys off the table and head out the door to my car as i drive i wonder why it happens why i pass out its like i'm someone else like i'm not even there just my body i like to call it my other side no one knows about it but me i'm too scared ill be labeled a freak. I finally arrived at school and saw my best friend ivory.
âHey ready for tonightâ she says with her gleaming smile that makes me feel less nervous
âYah totallyâ i say hoping she can't see through me and my lies because i was anything but ready for tonight i had a bad feeling about it thinking i should just stay in. The day goes by fast to fast i wish time would stop and for once i wish to be in chemistry for longer and i hoped that the feeling would be gone by math but it didn't and just like that i was in 7th period reading with ms.Brown this class always went by fast but today it was like i blinked and the bell ring. As i left we all met outside on the courtyard where we walked to my house each of use getting into a car we had all decided to carpool because the trip was far and gas was expensive i road with ivory, jordan, issah and david while caroline, emma, stella and ace took another car. The car was kinda small but i sat in the front like i always do i could feel ivory place her phone on my lap like she usually does so i could pick the music but i was still worried i passed it to the back seat
âYou guys can pick today. I'm gonna try and get some rest before we arrive, "I say, yawning. I wasn't really tired but i didn't feel like singing and was hoping rest would help from the blackouts i rest my eyes and wake up to a bumpy dirt road yawning i say âis your car ok this tiny little thing is not built for thisâ laughing ivory repliesÂ
âMy car is kenough and is doing just fineâ we all laugh and it's like the feeling was never there i chop it up to nervousness because we had no clue who invited us but there's something weird about the road it has that familiar feeling to it we arrive to a golden gate with the letters GM carved into it we get up to the box ivory rolls down her window and presses the buttonÂ
âHi we're here for the dinnerâ she is interrupted by a loud buzzer and the gates slowly open and she drives in we pull up to a huge mansion not knowing where to go she parks in the front
âI hope we were the only ones because I'm parking right hereâ she says as we all get out of the car we walk to the door it feels so firmalar like i have been here before like i have deja vu. Isaiah knocks on the door and it slowly creeps open one after another as we get into the house. We entered a big ballroom entrance with a giant clock on the wall that looked broken. There were two tall staircases curving into another floor and a big carpet covering the white tile floor. Everything was very clean and polished. I was the last one in the house when the door slammed shut.
âWow mariah you couldn't have been more gentleâ david says in a sarcastic tone
âGuys that wasn't meâ i saw worried i walk back over to the door and pull on it it doesn't budge its like its stuck and i began to get that worried feeling againÂ
âguys its locked i cant open itâ the group looks at me as a voice suddenly comes on
âWellcome you have all been chosen for my dinner party the theme tonight is murder mystery one of you was given a special invite and was chosen to be the killerâŠin the rooms you will find clues to the killer of tonight's game if you can't find the killer before they get you then you lose⊠dinner will be served in the next room over good luck you have until 6am form yours truly game masterâ i had no clue who that was but i was extremely hungry.Â
âMaybe it's like an escape room and we have to find the killer to win, guys let's go eat,â Ivory says. She always finds a way of making things better and i hope she was right about the game we all follow her next door to the dining room the food looked so good as soon as we walked in laid on the table of all types of food the table was decorated with nine golden plates and silverware the table cloths was blue and at each plate labeled a spot to sit we were all confused and wonder what we were supposed to do as the look at the table and all the food like freshly warm basket of rolls the steam radiating into the air and fresh juicy steak sitting one for each person and a basket of salad with cheese and bacon bits in it on the table also lay a lazy susan with different condiments from stake sauce to ranch and ketchup. The gourmet food smelled amazing and I was so hungry. We all sat in our spot. I sat between Emma and David and I did what I always do, putting my feet on his legs because it was so comfortable once we were all sat we began putting food on our plates when the voice came on again.Â
âWelcome to my dining room. As you see I have made you a nice gourmet meal feel free to eat and find some clues by talking to everyone the game has officially started and the killer can get you at any time so bewareâ we began to talk about school and work and eat. When stella asked ace   âSo Ace are you the killerâÂ
âYah totally and your gonna be my first victimâ Ace replies laughing as everyone began getting full from the feast the lights switch off and all i could hear is large steps of boots stomping around worried i move closer to david the lights came back on and with a scream too i feel a scarred feeling run down my spine and i look over to see aces body i quickly get up and check her pulseÂ
âguys she's dead like actually i dont think this a game anymoreâ i say worried all i want to do is get out of hereÂ
âWhat do we doâ jordan askÂ
âThere has to be a way out of hereâ Stella says as she gets up from the table rushing into the ballroom where they came in and we all get up following her. David and jordan began to try their hardest to kick down the door with no luck not knowing what to do i sit on the steps wishing this was all just a dreamÂ
âYou can't force us to play your stupid game let us outâ stella shouts i began to look for something to help us out when i see a mirror with a note covered in ruby red lipstick with the message âplay or dieâ i read the message out loud that's when it sinks in we are trapped and if we don't do something none of us our living through this night. Ivory replies âguys maybe we should split up into groups and try and find cluesâÂ
I don't think that's a good idea but we need to find clues quickly.
Jordan responds `ok killer splitting us up to make it easier for yourself ''Â
He makes a good point: one of us could be the killer and we could never know it but why would one of us want to kill each other? It made no sense. Ivory replies to jordan
âNo i'm just saying if we are in groups of 2 to 3 we can find clues faster plus they killed aces by cutting the lights so i dont think it matters if we're all togetherâÂ
she right as always we all split up into three groups: group one mariah, ivory and stella group two jordan, david and isaiah and group three emma and caroline. As we all split up we ended in a room filled with dust and old collectables as i trace the room looking for clues a tiny ballerina sticks out to me the space around it clean and almost polished i pick it up and turn it over reading the bottom out loudÂ
âI have hands but i can not clapâ
âWhat does that even meanâ stella repliesÂ
âMaybe it's talking about an idiom in hereâ ivory adds
âWhat has hands but cant clap.. What has hands but cant clap..â the phrase goes over and over again in my head it sounds so familiar i know what it means but i dont my concentration is broke by ivory
âDavid could know he practices riddles all the timeâ she's right that's probably where i know it from we all head back to the group in hopes david would know and they found other clues.
As we were walking back we heard a loud scream. We hurriedly ran back to find the group As we approached, we saw Jordan and David covered in blood, walking with Karoline, hoping they were okay. Stella immediately asked,
"What happened, and where is Emma?"
"Issah was attacked by the killer. He died, and they ran off. Then we found Karoline in the halls," David explained.
"We need to find Emma before the killer does," I said, hoping she was still alive.
"How do we know she's not the killer? Maybe Karoline is the killer, and Emma's already dead. None of us are safe," Ivory said, her fear evident. Everyone began to argue.
"Quiet, guys!" I screamed, trying to restore order. I could hear something from the other room, and their fighting wasn't helping. As I got up to check, Emma ran in, holding her stomach with blood dripping down her arm.
"Please help, I was attacked!" she screamed.
I rushed over to comfort her and tried to stop the bleeding. Everyone fell silent and scared.
"We need to get out of here, and fighting won't help us. We found a clue in the room, and we're hoping David knows what it means. It was a riddle â'I have hands but cannot clap.â' Does that mean anything to you, David?" Stella asked.
"Yes, it's talking about a clock," David replied.
"I also found a clue. It was a set of numbers, 0715," Karoline added.
"That number is my password. Why is my password a clue? What if it means I'm next?" I thought to myself. As I walked over to the clock, I opened it and set the time to 7:15. The clock opened from the wall to reveal a passageway.
"How did you know what time it was?" Karoline asked.
"That's my phone password, and that's what it means. I just took a chance, I guess."
"Maybe that's our way out," Ivory responded.
"I hope so, but I'm too weak to walk," Emma added.
"You guys go; I'll stay with Emma," Stella said.
We began walking down the passage. It seemed like forever, but we finally got to two passageways. Not wanting to choose the wrong one, we split up. No one wanted to go with Karoline because of earlier, so I volunteered. This time, it was me and Karoline in one group and David, Ivory, and Jordan in the other. As Karoline and I entered a dark room with screens, we clicked on the keypad, and the screens lit up. We could still see our friends going through the tunnel.
"These must go through the house," Karoline said.Â
As I turned to look at her, I saw myself, but it wasn't me; it was like a clone. I didn't know who she was. I was frozen in fear.
     "Are you okay?" Karoline asked.
"Behind you!" I managed to blurt out.Â
Karoline tried to turn, but in an instant, she was stabbed repeatedly. I was frozen, unable to help. All I could think was that I was next.
"Do you know who I am?" she asked.
     "No," I responded.Â
"I'm your twin, Luna. You don't know me, but I know all about you and your friends."
"Why are you doing this?" I asked, backing away from her.
"Don't be scared; I'm not going to hurt you. I want your place, your life, everything you have."
     "Why?" I screamed.
"Because you took my life. I shouldn't have to live here in this mansion alone. I should have your friends and loving parents, but I don't."
"What happened to you?" I asked, hoping she would tell me.
"A long time ago, our mom gave me up. She couldn't afford both of us. I found out a while ago, and I have been stalking you ever since, seeing everything you have that I never got, wondering why she chose you over me."
"You're lying! My mom would never..."Â
I hoped she was lying; my mom wouldn't do that, hoping she was just lying to me. Just then, my friends walked in, but she ran to them.
"Help, she's trying to kill me!" she screamed. What did she mean? She's the killer.
"Don't believe her; she's lying to you."
"Who's the real Mariah?" Ivory asked.
"I don't know," Jordan and David said.
"Wait, Mariah, what's the code?" Ivory asked. I had no clue what she meant; I didn't know the code. I was so confused when the other me shouted,Â
     "Apple."
     "What?" I responded.Â
Just like that the red and blue lights flashed in my eyes, and I can't remember much after that, but I do know one thing: she planned it all, from the tunnels to the code. She knew everything. That's why I'm here, writing this, knowing I may never see the light outside of this cell, hoping someone will read this and tell them I'm not me, and she has my spot with my friends and family. She made the code; she watched me and studied every inch of me. The only thing keeping me alive right now is the hope that she messes up one day, and that I'll be free.
"You have a visitor," the warden shouted.Â
As I was dragged out of my cell, wondering who would want to see me after all these five years, my eyes were in shock as she spoke.
"We made a mistake. I know she's not you."

Unexpected
Chapter 3
Genre: romance, comedy
Warning: many facts were changed for story development purposes
Finally, in the next chapter, I'm starting the main story. I hope you will enjoy this chapter as I had a lot of fun writing it â€ïž
"Your hand was always near mine,
I could grab it anytime...
...ah...
The sand,
Collapsing under our wet steps,
The long empty street...
....we didn't care about hurting our feet while running barefoot...
The taste of this drink was different with you,
I could drink from your lips until I fell...
Because I was certain you would be there...
Next to me in the morning..."
Chapter 3 under the cutđđ»
KyungSoo's house was placed in a district of single-family houses, with the main street at the end and a street full of pubs just next door. Further down was a big beach embraced by the woods from the back side of the lake.
His home was fenced off by a tall stone fence in a marble color, with a black gate looking like a dungeon entrance. It wasn't his choice, he probably would have chosen a different shape, but the fence was already here when he bought this house.
Inside, nicely cut grass was on every inch of the ground and the tall trees were separating his household space from other houses creating fence extensions. The medium-sized two-story house was in melancholic azure color with dark roofs.
Behind the wooden doors, placed in the middle of the house, painted in a navy color was a small anteroom, not separated from the sitting room by doors, just an open entrance leading straight to the kitchen which was together with the dining room and on the right side the sitting room behind the long bifold doors.
- KyungSoo-yah! - YiSeuls' voice could be heard from the kitchen - Baboo, there is a festival today, are we going? - she called him Baboo like the little monkey from a cartoon for kids.
How time flies?
It's already been a year after the unexpected one-off night. This unpredictable plot twist turned out to be a blessing for both of them. After they came back from a work trip, they've been meeting almost every day. KyungSoo was a frequent guest in YiSeul's house. He meet her mother who was delighted by his presence.
- Take care of this precious boy! - mother always repeated when he came by. It looks like, even if her body couldn't do much due to sickness when he came she was receiving an unlimited energy boost so he was always receiving all kinds of different sweets, dishes, and hot drinks. She was always by his side, but he didn't mind. He was happy to be accepted by her.
Due to his job colors, he had to work many hours and go on a work trips often. YiSeul was always waiting for him with prepared dinner and snacks. They loved going to their favorite pub, just next door street from KyungSoo's house.
She was sitting now on a bar chair next to the kitchen island and looking at her phone.
The island and the kitchen shelves and worktops were in navy color, fridge and cooker in silver. The rest of the walls in this room were white. The flooring was limestone grey tiles. On the right side, under the bifold doors was lying a grey carpet, just a little darker than the tiles' color.
YiSeul's dark brown hair was tied in a top knot. She was wearing a black undershirt and light blue denim shorts.
- What time? - KyungSoo shouted from the sitting room.
- It says, the festival starts at 8 pm but all the tills and stands are open from 6 pm. It's past 5 pm -
Suddenly, KyungSoo appeared at the bifold doors. His hair was cut in short French crop, the top was just slightly longer than the sides. He was wearing a white t-shirt and pickle green loose shorts.
- I finished, so we can go if you're ready - said proudly showing his perfectly white, wide smile.
- Who's first in the toilet...? - she threw down the challenge and after a second of silence both started to run towards the stairs in the kitchen's far right corner.
Sun was living it's best in the blue sky. The significant advantage in early autumn is that the summer feeling can be still there, despite the chilly wind and short days.
An unexpected couple was heading down the road together along with crowds of other people.
KyungSoo wore a black beanie, black and white plaid shirt, and white undershirt, together with light, loose jeans and dark sneakers. YiSeul wore a long loose black summer dress and plaid shirt in shades of brown and the same sneakers as her partner.
Soon they reached the entrance of the party. Stands were selling postcards with lake pictures or others connected to this place and festival attractions.
On the beach, except for overwhelming crowds, they could find bars and stands placed on wooden flooring. Just further down on the right, a huge scene was standing with all the preparations for performance later in progress.
They came near to one of the bar counters.
- Baboo, do you want a beer? - YiSeul asked while grabbing his hand tightly, so he would understand this question was rhetorical.
- I'll just take one bottle of coke please- he said to the barman at the counter
- What? You can drink one beer today! Work is done and tomorrow off - she jumped up and down while holding his hand
- Ok, let it be one then - he changed his mind for her. In reality, he didn't plan to drink it at all but didn't want to make her upset. - Two same please- finished placing the order and looked at her with a smirk - happy now? -
- I am happy, let's have fun today! You are working too much lately, I'm feeling like I don't have you anymore - she made a a facial expression of hopeless sadness, the one baby is doing before crying. That made KyungSoo laugh just before he grabbed their ready-to-drink beer.
In the next hour, the sun has settled down. They've been walking around, enjoying their time. In the meantime, KyungSoo was pretending to drink the beer but secretly poured it out here and there. It wasn't that he didn't want to have fun, just he didn't feel like drinking now. His mind was too much absorbed by the events around him, the people, the lights, and how nice would be to sit in his favorite pub's bar chair and just enjoy the time without too much noise and constant pushing through the crowd.
- Baboo - YiSeul woke him up from his thoughts suddenly - look, the concert is starting - and pointed at the scene where the powerful neons were lighting most of the beach. They came near the stage, barely pushed through the crowd but hopefully made it. KyungSoo was just standing focused. YiSeul was jumping while a three-person group was playing their folk music. Then one actress has done the stand-up skit. Then another rock band. KyungSoo was standing still, not making any effort to enjoy the show. Instead, he was carefully analyzing all the sound effects, equipment quality as well as lyrics and background details. YiSeul looked at him, the irritation was slightly visible on her face. She grabbed his hand and pushed him through the crowd's end, which was just at the shore of the lake. He stiffed in place, not knowing what her behaviour meant. Will she start reproaching him or she just doesn't want to be there anymore? She looked deep into his eyes in silence, the atmosphere was heavy.
- ..What? - he asked when she moved slowly on his right side while still gazing at him with a suspicious look....
-Wha..woow!- she pushed him straight into the lake! He fell splashing the water all around, sat and from his gaze, you could hear many swearing words even if he was completely speechless. Suddenly, he jumped up grabbed her hand, and dragged her to the water together with him
- You won't get away with this! -
The shore of the lake has shallow water so they've been lying flat and laughing. Soaked wet. He suddenly crouched down and started splashing the water on her, she stood up to fight back. Their laugh was spread across the beach and even the main concert couldn't drown it out completely. At some point, when they stood up Kyungsoo grabbed her wrists, pressed his chest against her, and made her move backward slowly to the dry part of the shore. She then released her hand, grabbed his back, and tripped him, but unfortunately, they fell over together on...
None of them expected that someone would be passing by at that second. They flew into the woman who was just walking by with a man who seemed like her husband. Both of them were looking wealthy. That woman jumped back on time, but they still hit her slightly leaving her wet and dirty from sand traces on her long pink coloured dress and flowers painted at the bottom.
- Are you out of your mind?! - she shouted when they picked themselves up from the ground. Her husband took a step forward:
- Look what you've done! This is unacceptable! You almost hurt her?!- he shouted in range. KyungSoo clammed up for a long second, then when he opened his mouth to apologize...
YiSeul grabbed his hand and pushed to the crowd to run away. The husband was still shouting, but they didn't understand the words anymore. Just run, and run ahead. While running they took off their soaked wet shoes, dirtied in sand. They laugh while running and holding their hands.
"WOW!" KyungSoo yelled with his head raised high. She was laughing loudly, it was more difficult to run when her back was bending from laughing, but KyungSoo held her hand so she wouldn't stop.
They had reached KyungSoo's beloved pub, "Inferno". The name had nothing to do with the decor of this place or the menu served. Blue and purple color neons were hung above the old, wooden doors. The glass walls were covering the whole wall belonging to this pub, including the fully glazed doors.
They walked in looking like two typhoon survivors. Inside, the dark brown wood flooring was covering each piece of the floor. The walls were painted in yellow. there were not many tables, two on the right, and three on the left arranged in a rows under the wall. The toilets were at the right corner behind the bar, and from the left to the middle was the counter and a few bar chairs under. Both the doors and the counter were in seaweed colour, something between brown and green. Some could say it's a green shade, the others it's brown, all depends on the person's view perception.
- You're definitely not sitting on my chair wearing these clothes! - The female voice just objected. KyungSoo after his eyes found the source of this voice smiled and waved his hand in a greeting manner.
- Sarah, two beers for us please -
- Hi Sarah! - YiSeul waved a hand too and turned to KyungSoo- Baboo, maybe whisky? -
He nodded his head in agreement while placing his hand on her arm and bringing her closer to him.
- Make it two whisky shots then -
The woman behind the bar was a tall woman with her black hair tied up in a top knot. The printed headband was covering her forehead. Cat eyes make-up and red full lips were giving an exotic vibe and doubling her currently annoyed facial expression. She wore just a black sleeveless tank top and leggings. She was giving them stink eyes while polishing the beer pints.
- To the toilet, both of you - she grabbed the tumblers for whisky and turned around to open the cabinet filled with all kinds of alcohol bottles.
The runaway couple came back after generally sprucing themselves up and sat down on the first bar chairs.
"...Creams Yura became a hot topic lately, after being spotted with a man in public..." KyungSoo looked at the TV hanging in the center of the right side wall. This news made him smirk a little.
- What? Are you laughing? - YiSeul grabbed his arm to catch his attention
- That's not my problem anymore, never was really, but it's funny how media works -
- Who's producing them now? - she asked while raising the glass to have a first sip. KyungSoo was holding the glass but felt the need to continue the topic.
- The one who was recruited by Kim some time ago. But I don't mind, Creams we're difficult after debut - and smiled at her like he's happy it's over.
- How's Yeolie doing after the promotion? -
- Oh, Chanyeol's doing fine, he always was. Living his life now as an unbridled producer, I guess this work suits him better -
- And your new band? Have you had a general meeting today? -
- Yes - he paused to smile widely as something enjoyable happened.
- Shocking. You're making this face like you had the time of your life but not telling what was it, I need details! - she pushed him slightly to show her demand.
- There's not much for now. It's a four-person boy group, two rappers and two singers. Management decided to push them overseas so there are many plans for that in mind -
- How are they called? -
-...Tempo - the sudden silence was broken by a loud laughter bouncing off the walls.
- But...Why?- YiSeul couldn't believe it
- I gave them a few ideas but apparently the name was already chosen by Kim, and it's about the genre. They'll be a hip-hop group. Of course, it makes sense, but...- and he laughed again, just this time he controlled the volume a little lower. Suddenly he leaned down and start whispering into her ear:
- I will finally use my few old records, they'll be perfect for them... -
- Ok, why are you whispering? - she played along and whispered
- Because no one can hear this, it's a secret - he pressed the pointing finger to his lips and smirked while looking deeply into her eyes. She turned her head to do the same. They'd been looking at each other for a longer few seconds, and then suddenly she kissed him. Just a quick peck on his lips, and again they looked at each other. He done the same. Their smiling faces resembled the ones that children have before experiencing something for the first time, fascination? Maybe. Excitement? Also possible. Suddenly she grabbed his face and they drowned in a long fulfilling kiss like they couldn't hold back anymore...
- That is disgusting - Sarah's voice suddenly crushed the atmosphere. They raised their heads in a rush, she was here all the time!
Sarah was leaning on the counter with her phone in hand. She wasn't disgusted, and to be honest she was enjoying the show very much. Seeing her amused face was very rare so they both started laughing from awkwardness, YiSeul covered her embarrassed face with her hands but still burst into laughter...
Time went by and after drinking more than one whisky shot, mostly sponsored by the entertained barmaid, the unexpected couple decided to finally go back home...
The front doors of KyungSoo's home opened, and they entered the kitchen. Walking slowly, taking off their shoes and clothes, throwing them under their feet while facing each other. Their bodies were like a photo magnet from holidays, bought for a few pence on the beach's souvenir stand, stuck to each other like those magnets to the refrigerator, and rubbing the tips of their shoes while moving. Kyungsoo was the one walking backwards. When entering the sitting room he grabbed the stereo system controller from the coffee table in the middle of the room and took a quick glance at which bottom to press. The radio was on. Their moves were supposed to remind the dance, but touch was the main goal so smooth spinning in circles was the best name for this choreography.
- Not complaining anymore, eh? - she said while showing a flirty smile.
- Never...- and he bowed his head slowly. Suddenly the time had stopped and every tiny sound disappeared. There was no outside world, only this room. His mind was stripped of all the thoughts and replaced by her...by her lips. Leaning his head to the side and slightly opening his lips. His heart rumbled very loud, he wished to silence it for a second...just a second would be enough...
The left hand was pressing her back to pull closer, as close as it was possible. Like she would run away...
The interlocked fingers in connected right hands couldn't decide how was more comfortable, bended or stretched.
She closed her eyes, waiting for the final blow of euphoria which was already rooted in her trembling bones from top to bottom of her body. He pressed gently his lips...
* buzz buzz* The vibrating phone in KyungSoo's pants has detonated the grand moment, shattering the passion all over the room walls. He jumped one step back but after seeing the anger on her face returned to his place like an obedient child and answered the phone:
- Chanyeol....- almost whispered with a resentful tone but it's not in his personality to cause a quarrel when Chanyeol wasn't even here and aware of what moment he just exterminated.
- KyungSoo-yah!- and laughed without reason- you alright? How's it going? -
Kyungsoo was suppressing his anger:
- Fine, was at the festival today with YiSeul -
She then started to dance gently with her fingers under his left ear going down the neck
- Oh, good boy, I wish I would say the same but May is recording for the next few days so I'm kind of lonely like Akon *ha ha ha*- he busted out of laugh from his own joke, while KyungSoo's mind was wondering somewhere in his girlfriend's eyes. - so, mate, pack your bags, and say sorry to your missus. We're going to Gwangju tomorrow! -
- What? What for? -
He raised his voice but YiSeul held his head in her both hands while pressing gently her right hand pointing finger to his lips to settle him down. Then she stroked his lips quietly by hers. His eyes suddenly regained the glow.
- Listen carefully ok? JJ Entertainment is doing a large-scale event for the 14th birthday. All stars must be there, including Tempo. They'll have a pre-debut show. Also, Kim needs help with Creams...I know right? But you've been there already so you'll be fine. Imagine.. - he laughed before starting the sentence. Kyungsoo wasn't paying attention, was holding the phone a little further from his ear and enjoying the teasing moment with his girlfriend. She peck-kissed him here and there...
- Imagine Kim already needs your help after taking this family guy. I don't care really, but I bet he is crying now.
Right, KyungSoo-yah I need to go, May is calling.Tomorrow.Ill.send.you.the.details.asap.byeeee - last few words he said in supersonic speed and hung up after barely finishing the sentence.
An unexpected couple was having another "look me. in the eye" challenge in silence. Suddenly "Who's first upstairs!" Yiseul shouted and they ran upstairs while taking off and throwing their clothes under their feet. Kyungsoo made it to the top of the stairs first but he waited on her for some reason. When she reached his point, she pushed him and jumped into the room which was just on the right corner. She then took off her pants and he jumped to the room dragging her with him to the bed. They looked at each other and laughed. While being on top of her He gently took off her bra strap and leaned over to kiss her peach-colour stripped skin. She grabbed the white-brown line pattern duvet lying under them. Then Kyungsoo grabbed another side of it, and they disappeared under...
...in this small room with one double bed and slopped ceiling above it where all walls are in russet color.
- Sir Tae Woo! -
In the daytime, just in what looks like the city centre, a man's troubled voice has been heard. The main road was wide and across the streets, you could find all kinds of shops and office buildings. The ones touching the sky, glazed and modern. Also the two-story old buildings with restaurants, corner shops, and other essential stores. Crowds walked by, it was probably sometime in the afternoon.
- Sir! - the middle-aged, black-haired man who was definitely an office worker judging by his clothes, finally found the "Sir" he was looking for. He stopped and banded down breathing heavily, his chubby weight could explain his lack of physical condition. The man who he was looking for was standing focused with his head raised high. Tall, short haircut looked like he just come back from the military. His facial features were not particularly characteristic. Sharp bones, long V-shaped face. Eyes were reminding jokingly cat on stand-by, long on the outer side and round like a coin on the inner side. Long nose and average shaped lips. He wore a suit in a light shade of grey and a white suit shirt under. The office worker started his report:
- The stock has gone up! And compared to the forecast we are -3.4% behind. That can be fixed but Lyon company said they are considering cancelation, that woul...-
- Shush...- whispered Tae Woo while looking fascinated at the other side of the street.
- You can tell me when we will get back to the office-
- But sir! - the terrified employer clenched his hands into the fist. What is more important than this?
Tae Woo smirked.
YiSeul walked on the other side of the street with two shopping bags and headphones in her ears.
- Interesting...- he whispered.
Have you had fun in the last few years?
...YiSeul...

Sometimes when I'm visiting Dad in Indiana I drive past that old place. It's run down now. The fruit trees are gone, the hazelnut and crabapple trees in the hedgerow have been cleared and the space bushhogged and there are no rows of cedars or peonies, and the paddock, the fence, the swimming pool, the pole barnâit's all gone. But if I could go there, buy it, and rebuild it exactly the way it was, with the same shag carpet, wicker furniture, artwork, wallpapers, tables and chairs, and blue tile in the bathroom, the puzzle-like kitchen tiles, then we would all be there again, back before we moved and Mom made Dad sell our things at auction, when there were kegs floating in large bins and a lamb roasting in the driveway and the antiquated, rusty farm equipment in the yard. When I die, if there is a heaven, and if I go there, then it will be that farmhouse exactly as it was in 1984. Death's white light is the lamppost in the drive. I arrive at the mailbox. I walk toward the light. I look to my legs, and I'm wearing Dad's boxers, the same ones I used to wear. My legs are those twiggy things they once were with mosquito bites and the poison ivy, but it doesn't itch because this is heaven. And I'll be that little boy again but with a real boy penis this time appropriate to my age with the little strawberry-colored nub that floats up in the tub while I'm in the bubble bath. My hair will be short and parted on the left. Bunny will be at the top of the drive, and she will pick me up and carry me into the house and I'll smell the lavender shampoo in her hair and beer emanating from her pores. She will be my big sister again. My best friend. Mom and Dad and Kelley and Nina will be there, too. The barn cats, horses, pigs, cow, chickens, rooster, pony, they'll all be there. It will be Fourth of July and family and friends will be in the pool, Mom will smoke unfiltered cigarettes with impunity with her best friend, Mrs. Petrovic, and we'll all eat roast pig and lamb. I'll meet Dad's grandparents for the first time ever. Busia will bring the czarnina and Jaja will bring the wine. I'll look as if I'm too little to drink but I'll drink anyways because in heaven you're any age you want to be and in whichever body you want to be, and it will be fine for me to have a drink with my great-grandparents. Then I think everything will feel good. But I don't know. I always want the things I want and work very hard to get them and then once I have them, I don't know if I want them anymore. Maybe I won't like heaven.

@vilestblood // how would you describe your oc(s) core aesthetic?
Nikodemus stands somewhere on the gothic spectrum. Not contingent to it by any means, trends are only transient whims and he follows them mostly when it serves him for assimilation, BUT as a preference he does go for dark smoky visuals, rich deep colors (purples and greens), luxurious fabrics, thick metals, unholy amounts of bare skin, obscene decadence both artificial and natural, themes of visceral horror and mysterious beauty (intrinsically part of his appearance at this point) and an earthy old world connection. Sharp, heavy, almost elegant, but never polished to shine; there's always that occlusion. Fond of the abnormal and shocking, and always, always maximalist or abundant in some way. In terms of fashion, he's worn both dark ornate armor, heavily embroidered finery... and modern underboob crop tops... He's not fully immune to trends. Or having fun with them.
Vanya is, aesthetically speaking, an attempt and a failure at sterility. Think the look of 50s slavic hospitals - white tile everywhere, pungent smell of bleach, stains on a rubber or tarpaulin covered floor, old massive metal furniture next to solid wood cabinets with enamel paint finishes in white, oil blue or green and little glass display doors. She tries to present a look of cleanly, neutral professionalism but achieves an uncanny hint of eeriness at best. Fan of pale, cold colors, which, paired with boxier cuts and an absence of patterns makes for a commanding look. Always just a little bit outaded and out of time, never quite delicate even if she has a soft beauty to her that should, by all means, lend itself to a gentle sort of femininity. Her spaces are empty-clean, with an undercurrent of deep chaos and clutter. In short: something beneath the surface. She's not all she claims to be.
Constance is the essence of liminal corporate. Perfect, clean angles, minimalist practical fashions, neat spaces, just enough things to furnish a room with bare necessities, a spot for everything and everything in its spot. And most importantly - dull, NOT elegant. Fitting to clothes rather than clothes fitting. A manufactured attempt at comfort - he occasionally wears sweater vests and only just manages something between cosy and frumpy, more on the side of frumpy. The same 20 suits in one closet - black, white, occasionally beige. Several pairs of identical glasses, and he doesn't really need a single one of them. Spaces taken straight out of an as-seen-on-tv catalogue, carpet and wall paint included. Trying a bit too hard to fit in when you clearly can't.
Lumen is a neon disaster. Cynthwave/Cassette futurism mix of fluorescents, bright colors, thick sturdy plastic a la the 80s and a cold, hard, yet kitschy sheen. The kind of garish aesthetic only a teenager trying out new styles and a badly directed electronics tv ad can achieve. Cyperpunk dark blues and eye-melting pinks, glow-in-the-dark fabrics, glow-in-the-dark eyes and veins. Ugly, messy, frantic spaces. Headachy motion blurr. Vocoder voice. Collection of novelty sunglasses.

[Baldur's Gate 3] - Squidhawk #25
[Cross-posted on AO3]
Returning to the first floor of the tower, it wasnât terribly difficult to get a look around. So long as everyone here believed him to be a True Soul answering the call of the Absolute, no one bothered him without having to put much effort into sneaking around.
He finally had a moment to simply walk about the layout, trying to commit at least some of it to memory, although he knew his memory wasnât exactly the best. Still, heâd feel better scoping things out at least a little bit before he called it a night.
Despite that the tower was heavily occupied, cobwebs from spiders seemed to cling to every corner, wall, and floor that wasnât an immediate walkway, though he found few actual spiders responsible for the webs that werenât your average, tiny crawlers.
It seemed that no one gave a particular care for keeping the tower clean and orderly--
[Which means they donât plan to stay, no doubt,] Rune speculated. [Likely they plan to abandon this tower entirely once theyâve set the stage for their true seat of power.]
Which would be?
[Baldurâs Gate, most likely.]
He only gave a low hum as he continued to look around, finally taking in the details of the throne room as he further descended the stairs. Iconography of skulls and death were a prominent theme of Kethericâs throne, and of the Absolute symbolism scattered about the flags and walls of the room.
The long blue carpet leading to and from the chamber however was speckled in stars, the same type he had seen in the old Salunite temple, and as Kytes looked further, he saw the same four-pointed stars reflected in the railings of the ramparts.
As far as he could tell, there was nothing particularly special about the flowery engravings of the roomâs wooden support beams, but the heavy doors leading between the entrance and the throne room was once again decorated in skeletal motifs, a skull surrounded by a ring of bones.
The tiles of the entryway were cracked and lifted from their foundations by white husk tree roots, in parts exposing raw dirt underneath, and scattered around the main room were broken or fallen pieces of the tower and rafters that no one seemed to care at all about clearing away.
A few goblins off to the side were muttering to each other and casting him nervous glances, but for the most part he ignored them, passing by into what seemed like a small dining room, though it was a far cry from an appetizing sight. Just ahead looked to be an inner tower that had once had stairs spiraling upward, but the stones had all long ago collapsed to block the passageway, and even more strange was the web of fleshy strings that had formed a mesh over the shattered stones and doorway, the bottoms rooting themselves into the floor tiles.
He continued on his way from it, though the sight of several gnolls patrolling the kitchen ahead had him ducking through a different doorway to his right instead, through a storage room and out onto an outside walkway.
Although the wall was lined in ballistas and braziers to light up the dark, he could see nothing of note beyond the grimy haze just a few feet outside of the tower, nor could he make out the top of the tower itself no matter how hard he squinted through dense fog.
Just below, he could make out another pathway that was lit by moonlanterns, hosting an array of cargo crates and ship cranes, but he could see no easy way down from here, and he didnât fancy jumping all that way or trying to climb down and break his legs. There did seem to be water below, but whatever sort of monstrosities might lurk under the waves, he dared not find out the hard way.
Huffing under his breath, he drew back and continued along the walkway, eyeing cracks in the walls and places where those tree husks climbed up the sides, but he didnât see anywhere that he might use to scale up without being noticed, and he didnât want to draw any undue attention right now.
The balcony led back into what looked to be a barracks, with bunk beds and a comfortable fireplace and a dining table unsoiled by weird, stringy goop.
He nearly jumped out of his skin as an ogre positioned off to the side of the door hissed at him, âHush!â, thinking that such a huge, hulking creature had no right to somehow be so stealthy and unnoticed until she spoke.
âMeat sounds above.â She tilted her head upward, eyes trailing after nothing at all, seeming to listen. âHear?â
He crossed his arms with an unhappy deadpan, but tilted his head slightly to listen anyway. Much to his displeasure, he did hear something. Wet, slimy, squelching noises, like raw flesh being dragged across stone. What sort of creature could possibly make that noise, he had no idea. Perhaps some monster dragging its kill through an unseen cubby, or--
He wasnât sure of anything else it could be, though he also wasnât sure he wanted to find out.
âWhaâ is thaâ?â
âBig. In walls above. Maybe whole tower,â the ogre woman emphasized, gesturing upward with arms spread wide, though he couldnât help but wrinkle his nose at the thought of whatever she could possibly be imagining. âLoudest near kitchen, but Mig banned. Not allowed to pet gnolls,â she gruffed unhappily, before grinning gnarled teeth. âYou find meat? You share.â
He furrowed his brows before breathing out, uncrossing his arms as he moved away. He felt he was being watched, glancing up at the ceiling with another grimace before his eye was drawn to a hooded figure off the side.
âDonât mind Mig and her âmeat soundsâ. Its just her brain slopping around in her skull.â
âNot true!â Mig protested, before lowering her voice to a raspy whisper. âMonster lives in this tower. Something big.â
The hooded elf scoffed a small laugh, rolling his eyes. âYouâre the biggest thing here. Nothing to be afraid of, lass.â
âNot scared!â Mig wailed. âHungry.â
He winced a little bit and brushed past them, eyeing the beds and wondering how many of them were already taken. He didnât particularly like the idea of resting here, but he was also feeling exhaustion press in on him, and the idea of sleeping out in the shadows was just as unappealing.
âYouâd find better lodgings out in the war camp, True Soul,â a guard-dressed man addressed him from near the doorway, drawing his eye. âI know weâre all one under the AbsoluteâŠâ his voice lowered a bit with a wry grin. â--but you do not want to bunk with an ogre.â
Casting a sly glance over his shoulder, Kytes couldnât help but wrinkle his nose in agreement, able to smell her stench from here, stepping out from the barracks and deciding to try his luck elsewhere, though exactly where that âelsewhereâ might be was still up for debate.
After much scouring and searching, he found a corner to climb into behind one of the tree husks in the storage room, somewhere out of the way of all the activity and watching eyes constantly moving about the tower, and where no one was going to complain of him taking up valuable space.
Settling in, he made himself as comfortable as he could with his travel bag as a pillow for his head, curling up hidden within the alcove, and let himself driftâŠ
____________________
âŠand to the feel of fingers lightly brushing strands of hair from his face, he awoke. At first, slowly, then with a small start as he realized he hadnât simply imagined the touch, instinctively shoving himself up and away.
âApologies.â Rune smiled at him, drawing his hand back, and his voice came silky soft. âI didnât mean to startle youâŠâ
Kytes huffed, wide eyes narrowing into a pout that was less than forgiving.
âI forget sometimes that such simple comforts are new to you, but there was never any harm meant by it.â
Kytes deflated with a breath out, glancing away and rubbing his arm in a small tell of discomfort, but his pale eyes eventually wandered back with the subtlest of interest in Runeâs presence.
âFirst time youâve come back so quickly. Most nights you just disappear.â
âAnd most nights you try to find me in your head anyway,â Rune teased lightly, ignoring the small, indignant noise Kytes made in return. âAre you complaining now that Iâve given you what you want?â
Kytes huffed, glancing away and pouting his cheeks. âDefine âwhat I wantâ. Its not like I have a lot of choice here.â
âNor do I, but as Iâve tried to impress before, the both of us need allies, even if only you and I.â
Kytes glanced back at him critically. âWhat about the others? Why donât you go talk to them?â
âStill petulant, I see,â Rune huffed in amusement. âI havenât abandoned the rest, but right now, youâre the closest to finding answers towards ending this nightmare.â His smile faded into a more serious look. âWhich means you are also the one most in danger right now, and in need of the most help. Unlike the others, youâre doing this alone. In some ways, thatâs to our advantage. One person is easier to overlook than a few, but it also means you wonât have any back-up if things go south.â
âWell its not like you can do anything for me from in here anyway, right? Besides make sure I donât turn into one of those squid guys.â
Rune hummed, his expression further dampening a bit. âDirectly? No, there isnât a lot I can do right now, but at the very least, I can guide you. Make sure you donât make any more missteps. And I can offer you comfort during these lonely nights, which perhaps doesnât mean much to you, but Iâm here regardless.â
Kytes fell silent for a good few beats, watching Rune carefully before averting his eyes to the ground pensively.
â...its not that it doesnât mean anything. Its justâŠâ
âYouâre scared,â Rune finished when Kytesâ trailing words didnât pick up again. âI understand.â
Kytes didnât answer, wrapping his arms a little more around himself and glancing further away. A touch to his arm made him flinch a little, looking at Runeâs upward palm offered to him, warm smile returned.
âCome here.â
Hesitation, before reluctantly, he shifted to scoot closer, taking Runeâs hand that helped tug him along until the blond was close enough to wrap his arms around and hold, brushing fingers through his hair.
With a tense exhale, Kytes slowly relaxed into it, resting his head against the redhead and closing his eyes. Rune's fingers moved smooth and careful through his hair, behind his ear and along the back of his neck, massaging gently. Breathing out and sinking into it further, Runeâs arm securely rested around the small of his back, squeezing with just enough pressure to feel comforting and further ease his nerves.
âGood boy.â
Cracking his eyes open, Kytes finally glanced upward, tentatively, and found Runeâs knuckles lightly ghosting against his scarred cheek. Whatever tension returned to his shoulders was subtle and brief, even if he was still unsure, fluttering his eyes nearly shut again and leaning into it.
âYou know, what I said before wasnât entirely true.â That drew Kytesâ attention properly again, some of that uncertainty flaring again, but he wasnât exactly scared, per se. âI think there is more that I can do directly to help you, however, it would depend on you trusting me, just a little bit.â
Kytes huffed, glancing away and back again without moving his head. âWith what?â
âWith the things that bother you. The things that youâre afraid of. Just like how the body needs bandaging and medicine to recover from injuries, so too does the mind need treatment when its been harmed. Sometimes the mind can mend on its own, but when the wounds are deep⊠well. They need more than simply time to heal.â
âAnd just how is that supposed to work?â Kytes asked uneasily, furrowing his brows.
âWell, there are many remedies. We could talk about things, as we have been. As most people do. Many people find it cathartic, simply to have someone who will listen to the pains they wish to speak of.â A brief pause, lowering his tone further. âBut there are some things that people find too painful to speak of, and I know you find speaking more difficult than most already. There is another option available to us, for you to open up your memories to me, so that I can see your pain as you do. It would require a great bit of trust from you, but it would also be on your terms. You would show me only what you wish for me to see, and I would be able to help guide you through those painful memories.â
Kytes grimaced, glancing away. âAnd just what good would that do?â
Rune smiled a bit more broadly, pressing a finger under his chin to guide his head back up.
âIt would help us to understand each other better, and perhaps you might finally find some peace from your demons. Holding painful memories inside us without learning how to move past them is like poisoning ourselves from within, until we begin to wither and rot. It makes us incapable of seeing hope. I promised not to lie to you. Treading through those memories will be painful⊠but like draining infection from a swollen wound, at the end, you will find a long-lasting relief that makes life a little bit easier, and will make you stronger.â
Kytes drew away a bit, once again averting his gaze. âMaybe Iâm just fine the way I am. Its gotten me this far.â
Rune scoffed a small laugh. âYouâre stubborn and determined to live, Iâll give you that much, though I think I know enough of you by now to know youâre no masochist..â He sighed, reaching out to lightly ruffle his hair. âWell⊠there is nothing that says you have to make your decision straight away, but the offer stands. We are already in a place of horrors and deep shadows. Its now more than ever that youâll need to learn to shine your brightest. It wouldnât do me any good either if my little beacon of hope were to be snuffed out here.â
Kytes glanced back up with a doubtful hum, but with wary curiosity all the same, met only with an unyielding smile.
âI donât really know why you seem to see so much in me. No one else has.â
Rune gave a small shrug. âHow can I expect you to believe in yourself if I donât believe in you? Youâll see your own worth eventually, but until you do, Iâll hold onto enough of it for both of us, hm?â
âI guess.â Kytesâ eyes closed as Runeâs hand brushed over the top of his head again, holding him close.
âAt any rate, you can think on your answer later. For now, you should get some rest. The both of us will need it.â
Another hum, shifting to get comfortable against him, mumbling a repeat, âI guess soâŠâ
