Luxury Meets Style: A Guide to Exclusive Clothing Brands Worth the Investment
Exclusivity in the fashion market refers to luxurious clothes brands due to their exclusivity, quality, innovation, and trendsetting fashion. Purchasing these brands guarantees not only chic but also timeless fashion that adds value to our outfit collection.
The Value of Exclusivity
Designer apparels come with better values than the general brands, and these refer to more than just the name of the brand. These brands focus on quality, not quantity, the finest material is used and there is a skilled workforce. This commitment to excellence leads to the creation of fine-looking quality garments that would last long and hence are wise investments for people with longer use of the garments.
Iconic Brands Leading the Way
Some of the unique fashion apparel have become trendsetters for the premium class. Organizations such as Gucci, Chanel, and LV have become part and parcel of luxury consumption indicators. Their collections consist of state-of-the-art limited series that turn into treasures for lovers of the newest trends. These brands are among the most influential in providing trendsetting fashion and setting the pace for other designers.
Emerging Designers
Besides the most recognized design houses, some upcoming designers are making equal impacts. Off-white, Balmain, and Jacquemus are some of the brands that have blossomed in the recent past owing to their uniqueness in designs and new ideas. Purchasing garments from these designers; not only encourages the new talent but also introduces fresh modernity to the wardrobe.
The Investment Aspect
As much as exclusive clothing brands come with an expensive price tag, they bring massive circulation of returns on investment on the side of the designer. The result is that the said garments do not wear out quickly and look and feel as good as when they were new. Furthermore, the items produced in limited quantities by these brands are notable for acquiring a secondary value, which is significant for a sophisticated wardrobe.
Sustainability and Ethical Practices
Exclusive clothing brands with luxury clothing also embrace sustainable practices and ethical clothing practices. They focus on the sustainability of the production process and usage of the labor, which complies with the requirements of the contemporary population. When you opt for these brands, you are, putting your money into clothing that is making the world better.
Conclusion
Exclusive clothing brands are not merely about purchasing elegant apparel; it is about choosing a lifestyle that reflects class and style statements. These brands include unique quality, elegant cutting, a trendsetting fashion sense, and a willingness to use durable resources. For those who intend to make a fashion statement in the clothes that they wear, these are investments that are worth making.

9, 10, 15, and 48 for loml gracie!
THANK U CHRISSY MWAH 🥰
9. what do they smell like? do they use perfume or cologne?
gracie is of the mindset that if she doesn't smell absolutely phenomenal at every waking hour then literally what is the point of anything. so she smells wonderful ! in an intensely old fashioned sort of way. she exclusively wears classic "vintage" perfumes, usually dior or chanel, which means plenty of frankincense, rose, sandalwood, or orange blossom if she's feeling particularly Cute that day :) not a big fan of floral or citrusy scents usually, and will more often than not go for an earthy/wood aromatic
10. what shampoo scent do they like the best and why?
i'd say she's less choosy about her shampoo scent, since she's more concerned with what's IN the product and how it'll impact her hair. but i'll say her hair usually smells like morrocan/argan oil, which she usually applies after her showers !
15. do they know how to drive? do they like to drive?
yes gracie knows how to drive ! whether or not she should be ALLOWED to drive is another matter lol. she's . . . okay, so long as you don't mind her extremely slow speeds and neurotic temperament while she does <3 i think she just gets too caught up in how many idiots are on the road, herself included, and while that doesn make her panic like it would for, say, me lol, it DOES make her cautious to the point of absurdity. for this reason she doesnt own a car, and rarely drives unless she needs to or is specifically asked.
do they have social media? do they like it or hate it? obsess over it?
gracie has an instagram and a snapchat, plus an obligatory facebook for the odd conversation with grandparents and aunts. she enjoys social media a LOT in that she loves attention and being Pretty, and also - being a perfectionist/control freak - relishes the opportunity to carefully cultivate what people see/know about her. it's something she values a lot obviously, bc of her mind blindness. she has quite a lot of followers on insta, mostly wiseman sycophants who follow her because of nick, but also a couple high profile fashion brands who want her to wear their stuff, and artists affiliated w the chicago institute of art, where she worked in highschool ! gracie is offered a couple decent monetization deals a year (thanks nepotism) to model various brands on her account, but nothing lucrative enough to make a full time career out of social media !
#oc: gracie#LOVE the idea of gracie being an instagrammer bc that means ambrose is gonna have to take a pic of her posing with a frappe at some point 🤡

Banana Fish boys and signature scent - some options
Hey, so I asked about the scents for the characters because I'm really into perfume and wanted to do a post like this based on your opinions of what the characters would smell like.
So, here's what I think:
Eiji: You said "the sweetest scent. he smells like marshmallow and orange blossom + his hair smells like lemons"
I couldn't quite find marshmallow and those citrus scents in a fragrance I thought would be fitting, but what I could come up with was:
Chanel Les Eaux de Chanel Paris-Deauville which is a fairly recent unisex release from Chanel in an eau de cologne style. It kinda of features all those citrus notes you mentioned (though it's certainly more orangey than lemoney) and has some nice sweetness from jasmine. It's also on a base of neutral, soothing woods that smells like a very typical type of fragrance that was very popular in Japan in the 90s, the kind of "Zen" fragrance (this is just the base, though, that gives it some heft and keeps it from being too sheer like most eaux de colognes; the fragrance as a whole is not woody and is much more a sweet-citrus-aromatic). All in all I'd say the key notes for me in this are (in order from most to least noticeable): sicilian orange, bergamot, lime, lemon, jasmine, hedione, assorted greens and petitgrain. If Eiji's hair smells significantly more lemony, I would suggest he might wear Paris-Deauville on his skin, and spray a light mist of Chanel Cristalle Eau Verte on his hair, or to walk through. Not a cheap combination, though!
Hermès Le Jardin de Monsieur Li is another citrus-sweet watery unisex fragrance with slight Zen undertones (though without any of the slight woodiness of the base of Paris-Deauville). The burst of citrus here is not due to a combination of oranges and lemons but to juicy kumquat, which is a very distinct citrus smell, and pretty great for someone looking for a distinct signature scent. Like in Paris-Deauville, the sweetness here is largerly thanks to jasmine (a flower, which, like, say, tuberose, is categorized as a "white floral," a catergory of perfumery quite known for sweetness to say the least). I think this is probably the more Eiji-like fragrance of the two, or at least the one I can more easily imagine him wearing, even though I think Paris-Deauville is more on par with your description. The reasons why aren't many, but I think this one skews generally more traditionally masculine than Paris-Deauville (which is a very blank unisex, in terms of traditional gender norms in perfumery), is probably easier to find (I think the Les Eaux de Chanel range is an in-house exclusive?), cheaper (you can find some good deals on this online, generally), has less of an overall "pretty veneer" than Paris-Deauville (Le Jardin de M. Li is still a masterful fragrance, but it is less "cute" than P-D, which I think Eiji would appreciate, as he is generally self-conscious of being thought of/seen as too cute), and is a more faint, discreet smell. And I mean faint. All of the fragrances in the Hermès Le Jardin series are very watery and sheer, but really, none more so than this one. If you're in the market for a bright, tart, citrus scent, many of the fragrances in the Le Jardin series deliver (particularly as a top note), and, in fact, many of the fragrances Jean-Claude Ellena made for Hermès in general during his time as in-house perfumer there could be appealing. Ellena stepped down from his post in 2016, but many of the scents he made feature a tart, fizzy, bright, effervescent grapefruit top note, which became something of a signature for him, and is a very, very citrusy smell (though this particular grapefruit accord is not present in Jardin de M. Li).
The marshmallow note is tricky. You can find it in fragrances, but those generally skew very feminine, young (both of those as far as traditional gender norms in perfumery go; I truly don't feel scent has gender, but I do think we have become used to certain norms in smells as regard gender and age) and loud in register (big projection and longevity, which I don't think is something Eiji would seek out or be comfortable with). The best ones I can recommend if you have an interest in fragrances with this note are Demeter Fragrance Marshmallow (aptly named) and Etat Libre d'Orange Divin'Enfant, though none of those fragrances register as Eiji to me, and they only fit your bill insofar as the marshmallow note goes.
Some other ideas for Eiji, in order I find from most to least applicable: Le Labo Fleur d'Oranger 27, Louis Vuitton Sun Song, Hiram Green Dilettante, Hermès Concentre d'Orange Verte.
Ash: You said "rosemary" is his signature scent. So, this is what I came up with:
Chanel Platinum Égoiste, which is actually a very popular masculine aromatic (basically lots of herbs and spices) flanker of the older Chanel classic Égoïste (which I wouldn't recommend for Ash by the way, at least not on your brief. Flankers are basically new scents that piggyback on more established names from a perfume house's stable. Some bear a very close resemblance to the original, and with some it's just more of a marketing ploy that suggests to the public that a classic fragrance they probably have heard about has been "updated for the now" - Cristalle Eau Verte, for instance, that I recommended for Eiji as a hair mist above, is a flanker of the original 1970s Cristalle, which, by the way, is so good, though off-topic). Anyway, Platinum Égoïste, which skews warm-spicy with slight woody undertones in the base (therefore creating a slight connection with Eiji's scent, if Eiji were to wear Paris-Deauville - which would also mean they're both fragrances from the same house!), and which sells like hot-cakes in France, has a very interesting and quite delicious rosemary note (it definitely is the kind of fragrance to make you swoon if you smell it on someone - specially someone you already fancy), and is done in a very kind of traditionally masculine formulation. It feels kind of tough or a bit butch on the outside, but is kept from being simplistic or overly-macho in a cartoonish way by a deceptive quiet sophistication and harmony in the notes (I recommend letting this one breathe a bit; not applying just as you're out the door). I think Ash would really dig this one, and I think Eiji would probably dig it even more on him. To my nose, the notes that play the most significant part in the composition of this are (from most perceptible to least): geranium (which is a very interesting floral in perfumery that rarerly registers as what we generally think of as floral; it's quite warm, spicy, a bit powdery, and clean, though paradoxically quite earthy), that gorgeous rosemary note, lavender, oakmoss, clary sage, petitgrain, cedar, sandalwood and amber. One last thing to mention about this is one is the slightly woodsy base, which while it doesn't make me think of Cape Cod in the summer, does bring to mind notions of being outdoors in upstate New York, just as summer is turning to autumn. Overall, this has an easy sophistication that feels very Ash, and is also quite a comforting scent to smell on someone. Eiji would go bananas.
Other than this, probably the most prominent rosemary note in perfurmery comes courtesy of the very inexpensive and oft-overlooked Clarins Eau Dynamisante. This is a very fresh-spicy aromatic citrus, and interestingly, though there are a lot of really well-placed notes playing off each other here, the two key players really are rosemary and... lemon! Which in a way makes me think it is the perfect scent for Ash, because, as per your description, Ash's signature scent is rosemary, and Eiji's hair smells of lemons. So there you go! I think there's something really touching and sweet about Ash's signature fragrance carrying overtones from and sharing commonalities with Eiji's signature scent, as if never really wanting to be away from Eiji, and subconsciously compensating for that with a fragrance that both manages to remind him of Eiji and remind Eiji of him when he smells it. Eau Dynamisante is often marketed as aromatherapy water, specially in France (and is actually often used as a layer topper-upper - something people might spray on top of other fragrances to create a more unique scent), and is often used that way. That theory definitely holds water: just spritz it and you are likely to feel both more perky and somehow soothed. I mean, it's crazy to think you can get that effect from a bottle, but you can, and for this reason, it's usually something I like to recommend to people. It's also a fairly inexpensive scent, and one that has fallen a little out of fashion with younger consumers these days. A lot of people also ignore it on account of it coming in a non-fancy plastic bottle, but I think to do so is a mistake. Truly, this is one of the more sophisticated scents out there, and you can get it for almost nothing, and smell like almost no one else. Be advised though that this is very faint, and stays very much a skin-scent - people will smell it if they are close to you, which is probably something I think Ash would prefer. I don't see him wanting to wear something very loud, specially if he's only just recently been getting into perfumes, and might still be worried about leaving a trace.
Now, all of the other ones I'm going to mention feature prominent rosemary notes to some degree, but in neither of them is it as much of a key player as it is in the previous two: Christian Dior Eau Sauvage (a very classic "barbershop" kind of fragrance, but quite appealing - I mean, the middle and latter developments of this are quite sexy, in a wow kind of way. Definitely more of a summery scent, with again some citrus notes to throw it back to Eiji. Strangely enough I could also see Blanca wearing this as a signature.); Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio (which most people have probably smelled, and which is a more aquatic, more "sporty," more stoic, less old-school classic and less sexy take on some of the ideas in Eau Sauvage); Tommy Hilfiger Endless Blue and Yves Saint Laurent M7 (by far the least prominent rosemary note here, and one that is quite butch in a big and burly way that makes me think it might be more suitable to Blanca. I think this scent is probably more representative of other people's ideas of Ash than of Ash himself. Though released in the 2000s, it is done in a very 80s action hero kind of way that Ash was sometimes portrayed externally as). These are in order of what I think Ash would be most to least likely to wear.
Okay! So, that's pretty much it. Let me know if you like it, and I can make a Part 2 with Sing, Shorter and Yut-Lung. My picks for them are much more straight-forward.

Why Prada/Miu Miu and Burberry Continuously Hire Perfumers Daniela Andrier and Francis Kurkdjian
Monogamous creative relationships are unusual in the perfume industry, where few perfumers enjoy in-house status at venerable houses. Masters like Christine Nagel (Hermès), Mathilde Laurent (Cartier), Olivier Polge (Chanel), François Demachy (Dior) and Thierry Wasser (Guerlain) are exceptions. Most perfumers work at one of the major raw materials companies (like Symrise, Firmenich, IFF or Givaudan) and compete against their peers to win a perfume brief, one gig at a time. Acclaimed perfumers Daniela Andrier and Francis Kurkdjian are rare exceptions who enjoy the best of both worlds: They get to define the olfactive signatures of a brand’s fragrance pillars, providing continuity as the scents evolve, and also refresh their creativity with other challenging projects.

DANIELA ANDRIER
“I consider that my work is almost like I’m a translator and I have this language, which is an olfactive language, so if I understand the brand, I can translate it into a smell,” Daniela Andrier explains from her office at Givaudan. “With time that goes by, you understand better who you are and you know for whom you should work.” Over the past 30 years, she says, she has thrived the most in creative exchanges with a strong designer within a brand, whether the artistic sensibility is classical (like Tiffany & Co.) or postmodern—“for example, with Maison Martin Margiela, I did (Untitled), which was a beautiful adventure.”
The renowned nose has worked continuously with Prada’s co-CEO and fashion designer Miuccia Prada and been behind most of Miu Miu’s and Prada’s perfumes since 2003, from the ingredient-focused Les Infusions range and dynamic Luna Rossa colognes to the new Miu Miu Twist. “When I’m working with Mrs. Prada, there’s a mutual sympathy and a very silent correspondence; there is something that is just connected,” says Andrier.
“I’ve been thinking a lot about the work I’ve been doing for [Mrs. Prada] and why it is so different from everything else I’ve worked on, and I guess my conclusion is that I learned lots from just looking at her work,” she explains, referencing the designer’s penchant for unexpected juxtapositions of colour and material. “The perfumer I am today has been very much educated by her vision of femininity: its relation to the contemporary and the traditional, the brutal and the beautiful, the precious and the brittle, the ugly and the elegant—all these contradictions.”

“It provokes the cinematic experience of a partially remembered dream” – our perfumer Daniela describes her creation, @Prada’s Purple Rain, one of the ten signature scents featured at the @somersethouse #Perfume exhibition in London. #perfumepioneers #Repost by @moniqueledoledec #perfume #somersethouse #fragrance #exhibition #perfumer #givaudanperfume #danielaandrier #prada #purplerain #iris #ingredients #perfumery

Andrier says she was a customer first, captivated by the richness of the materials that shape Prada’s point of view. “The whole way it nurtures itself from history: movies, literature and the art of costume—all these references in the details on that coat or this skirt,” she says. The challenge is capturing the wit of memorable ready-to-wear collections—the soft, luminous whimsy of a fairy collection (Prada Spring 2008) of gossamer-silk pixies paired with hearty ribbed knitwear or the deshabille of a cardigan worn under a sundress (Prada Fall 2013)—in a fragrance.
“This way of putting things together translates, for me, into my work as a perfumer putting things together that maybe I otherwise would not have put together,” says Andrier. With Miu Miu Twist, there’s the intriguing interplay of an apple blossom turning a “pink amber accord” of burnt sugar into something fresh.
Andrier mentions that all of her Prada/Miu Miu products sit on a nearby shelf; I suggest that the flacons must now total more than 50. “I’ve never even counted them, but if I turn around, it’s like, wow, a lot,” she laughs. “I think I am more than anything very much like an in-house perfumer in my state of mind because I’m a monomaniac person—very obsessive in my way of loving and admiring.”
“I can be a bit of an uncompromising person—I have to work to keep it cool,” Andrier adds ruefully. “I’m better off working for brands that are looking for that kind of personality and want that. And [Mrs. Prada] does.” Take the confectionery of Prada Candy: “She gave very clear instructions,” Andrier said in an interview when the fragrance was launched. “A caramel but not half of a caramel. Uncompromised and daring.”
“I admire her a lot,” Andrier says now. “I’m happy to give my intransigence to her rather than to brands that don’t give a shit!” She pauses conspiratorially and then adds: “This is kind of a déclaration d’amour. If Mrs. Prada asked me tomorrow ‘Do you want to be my in-house perfumer?’ I would say ‘Of course.’ I would do it immediately.” But, she admits, “I’m not so sure I would do it for someone else, because that would mean I could no longer work for her.”

FRANCIS KURKDJIAN
Competition against other perfumers is how Francis Kurkdjian, who also composes for the eponymous fragrance house he co-founded in 2009, lands gigs with clients like Carven and Elie Saab. And it was the same process even for his subsequent iterations of Le Male, his 1995 blockbuster for Jean Paul Gaultier. “Whether it’s a long-term working relationship or a one-off, the uncertainty is always there,” he says. That is, except for his ongoing work with Burberry.
“Over the years, you learn to find a vibration that fits with a brand” is how Kurkdjian puts it. Burberry’s fragrance creation has been almost exclusive to him for the past five years—even for the home fragrance collection, which, he points out, is unique.
In the beginning of his relationship with Burberry, Kurkdjian researched the history and fundamentals of British perfumery, which, even before the brand’s heritage and attitude come into play, distinguish it from American or French perfumery traditions.
“You build your own playground where you define lines,” explains Kurkdjian. “Defining limits is very difficult—it’s my job. But once you do, it’s very easy.”

“The brands that work with me laugh and say that I’m a 360 perfumer because I always need to know and understand the where, when, what and why beyond the smell,” he says. “It’s not just what you want to create as a scent; it’s the meaning of the scent you want to create, which is not the same thing. You need more depth.” That’s not marketing positioning—it’s knowing where a brand or a company is within its own history.
During the creative process for Burberry Her, for example, the brand’s feminine scent launched last fall, Kurkdjian wasn’t aware of its name (most perfumers aren’t) but was able to intuit early on that it should be “more obviously feminine than My Burberry [his previous pillar for the house] and more joyful and playful.” For the forthcoming follow-up, Burberry Her Blossom, he pulled out elements of the tomboy sensuality with facets of plush plum and airy peony.
“Part of my vision was to have a rather masculine woman,” says Kurkdjian. “Things were not explained to me like that—with the idea of Cara [Delevingne] being the face—because at the very beginning, no one knows. But in the brief, I could feel that.”

Aroma Of Thoughts BY: Nefer Baka Neterus & Netert 15mL Traveling Refillable Spray
Our Designer Perfume Oils don't have any alcohol, Fillers and Chemical ingredients . Which means you will be getting more natural product smells and better long lasting scent . Perfumes are composed of about 90% alcohol and 10% oil. Oil is the fragrance, and alcohol is what is used to cut it down. The reason that perfumes and colognes are cut so much with alcohol is that it makes the wearing time shorter; hence you will run out of perfume faster and need to buy more. If you decide to buy a perfume the normal wearing time will last a few hours; however if you put on an oil you will still be able to smell the aroma 24 hours later. The fragrance is stronger which means you only have to wear a few drops for it to be effective. Oils are not only used for wearing, but also for burning. You can burn oils anywhere to create a new and different atmosphere and effect. Here is a list of things you can do with oils:

With bottles to swoon for, these gems glitter like diamonds, bursting with fruits, musk and flowers – and it’s all topped off with a brand new Spicebomb!CHANEL LES EXCLUSIFS DE CHANEL 1957 Why 1957? Because that was the year Chanel received the highest honour in American fashion, the Nieman Marcus Award for Distinguished Service. And because Chanel’s New York flagship (where this has been exclusively available till now) is on E. 57th Street. This utterly divine tribute by Olivier Polge is at first bergamot and neroli, transforming to a skin-scent based on no less than eight different musks and iris, ultimately becoming honeyed and powdery while remaining quintessentially ‘Chanel’. From £155 for 75ml eau de parfum chanel.com
JUICY COUTURE BOWDALICIOUS It’s always all about the bows, for Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy – but this limited edition takes that to an extreme. (How timely, with bows in all shapes and sizes dominating our #Insta feeds, this season.) A ‘tidal wave of luxe, pink, over the top fantasy’, it conjures up a sun-drenched pool party via the solar vibrancy of tiaré, introduced by Italian mandarin, Williams pear and honeydew, all tied up in addictively creamy tonka bean. From £52 for 30ml theperfumeshop.comSALVATORE FERRAGAMO AMO FLOWERFUL The bottle for this will stop you in its tracks even before you get a whisper of what’s inside, with its unique iridescent rainbow finish, created using innovative PrismaTM technology. That was born out of perfumer Marie Salamagne’s vision for a rainbow garden, ‘full of sparkling flowers’ – brought to life via an Italian bitter accord, faceted with jasmine, plum blossom, peony and juicy elements of blackcurrant and lemon. Easy on the eye, easy on the nose. From £42 for 30ml eau de toilette harveynichols.comSHAY & BLUE WHITE PEACHES Forget the variety you might find in your fruit bowl – here, a floral delicacy exudes from the flesh of white peaches, swirled through with an elderflower granita for a freshness that feels like sunshine and happiness, bottled. Shay & Blue excel at unique combinations, this one unusually grounded with a soft wisp of silver birch for the woody base. It’s a sorbet of a scent to quench your thirst for something delightful to wear. From £25 for 10ml eau de parfum shayandblue.com
TIFFANY & CO. TIFFANY SHEER EAU DE TOILETTE Here comes that dazzling, faceted Tiffany bottle again, glinting ever-more-brightly as it showcases the most sparkling interpretation yet of the hugely successful Tiffany & Co. fragrance – described as the aromatic equivalent of a diamond in its purest form.’ Expect to be dazzled by a multi-faceted structure that offers blackcurrant, green mandarin, rose oil, ylang-ylang, buffed and softened by the signature iris note, which is yet again played so masterfully by the renowned Daniela Andrier. From £49 for 30ml eau de parfum tiffany.co.uk
VIKTOR & ROLF SPICEBOMB NIGHT VISION Viktor&Rolf newness doesn’t come along every day. Or night, in this instance, with a striking bottle tinted to echo the green light of after-dark spy cameras. Pierre Negrin and Nathalie Lorson collaborated on this fougère-woody scent, bathed in green cardamom, green mandarin and a Granny Smith accord, edgily spiced by black chilli, clove, black pepper and nutmeg. And to keep him warm in the darkness, there’s roasted almond and tonka bean absolute. From £55 for 50ml eau de toilette Debenhams.com

Poppy Delevingne reveals she enjoys romantic baths with her husband and shares her beauty must-haves

Poppy Delevingne reveals she enjoys romantic baths with her husband and shares her beauty must-haves
Poppy Delevingne is one of the most beautiful and sought-after faces in the modeling world and she’s walked for everyone from Burberry to Louis Vuitton and now, she talks exclusively to GLAMOUR about beauty, bath-time and her latest collection with Jo Malone London.
“I’m a total bath freak”
Having a bath is probably one of my most favourite things in the whole world. I splash in lashings and lashings of bubble bath, light every single candle going and I always have music on in the background, either something easygoing like Fleetwood Mac or something out there like Pink Flloyd to get a little bit bonkers. I’ll stay in there for hours – I mean, an absurdly long time – so I’ll have to keep topping up the hot water. Sometimes I try and force my husband to get in with me and keep me company, chat about the week. It’s a great time to catch up or send a few messages.
So, when Jo Malone London asked me to do the new collection for them I was like ‘please, please, please’ can we celebrate everything that is bath-time and what makes the perfect bath. Obviously, bubbles came up and I thought ‘let’s go big on this’, which is why we’ve put them in these big 500ml bottles. The bigger the bubbles, the better.
“I wear my husband’s fragrance when I’m away from home”
I always wear different fragrances for different occasions, which is why I chose three different colognes for my new collection. I chose Amber and Lavender because my husband was wearing it on the day that I met him – he still wears it to this day, in fact. Whenever I travel or am away from home, I’ll wear it to remind me of him.
I started wearing Jo Malone London Red Roses Cologne when I was 18, so it feels like an old buddy. I love wearing it in the daytime as it’s so fresh and friendly. If I have a meeting or I need to feel powerful, I always spray Peony Blush & Suede. It’s got this feminine floral feeling but has a real kick of energy – it’s my new favourite.
Pretty floral scents you’ll want to spritz all spring long
“Smell is the by far the best sense”
For me, smell is the most evocative out of all the senses. I’m always saying to friends, ‘you smell like someone, or remind me of some place I’ve been’. I wore Orange Blossom on my wedding day and we scented the whole venue in Orange Blossom candles and now when I smell it, I get those bridal jitters like I’m right back in that moment. The sense of smell is so special in that way.
“This unknown face wash from Germany transformed my skin”
I start my everyday beauty regime with an enzyme face wash from MBR, which stands for Medical Beauty Research. No one has ever heard of it – it’s German – and when I had bad skin a few years ago, it totally transformed my complexion. I now swear by it – I have ten bottles at home so I am never without and I live in panic that it will be discontinued.
“I always go makeup-free but feel lost without fragrance”
I love Chanel lipsticks, MAC lipsticks and Tom Ford lipsticks. I’m a bit of a lipstick junkie to be honest. But I won’t wear it everyday – if I don’t have to wear makeup, I won’t. But fragrance is a whole different ball game – I wear it every single day. If I left my house without my fragrance on, I would feel completely lost, like I’d left something behind.
Queen Of Pop, Poppy’s limited edition collection with Jo Malone London, is out now exclusively at Selfridges and online at Jo Malone London.

Makeup Bag: Celebrity Makeup Artist Suzy Gerstein
“I am a big fan of non-toxic beauty. There are so many great things happening in the Green Beauty space that it’s an exciting time to support brands that do good for women and the environment. I also don’t drive myself nuts about being exclusively 100% non-toxic. If can’t find a mascara that lasts through a sad movie (or red carpet) without running, or spot an electric teal eyeliner in Sephora that makes my heart sing, then I shop the mainstream lines without feeling guilty about it. I try and just do my best and bless the rest!
With both my clients and myself I focus on the skin- through skincare and makeup technique. No matter how bold I go with lines or color, I never want there to be the sense of visible concealer, foundation, or powder. I love working to create flawless but believable looking skin- it’s really the basis for all the looks I create (and sometimes it’s all I need to do).
For skincare, I’m a longtime devotee of May Lindstrom Skin. I use her The Clean Dirt just about every other day in the shower to cleanse and exfoliate my skin, which makes makeup apply so much smoother and more evenly so that I end up needing less product. I carry a little vial of her cleanser with me to work in case I need to exfoliate a model before a shoot, and I carry my own tiny vial as well. I prep my skin every day with a mist of Rosewater (SW Basics is my favorite), then apply a mix of Kypris Antioxidant Dew and one of their fabulous Beauty Elixirs. They soak right into the skin and create such a smooth surface for makeup. I also love to rotate in La Bella Figura Modern Radiance Concentrate and Pai Rosehip Bio Regenerate Oil several times a week for brightness. I also love Mūn Aknari Serum under makeup. Whenever I used it on my clients they ooh and ahh over the rose and prickly pear scent, and it’s light so it makes a great primer under makeup. I always use an eye cream; lately I’ve been loving Dr. Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Dew It All Eye Gel for how effectively it hydrates and plumps without a trace of residue so it’s great under makeup. And when my skin is feeling in need of that extra layer of moisture and protection after all my oils, I’ll lock in the oil with an application of either Odacité Oleosomes Time Release Delivery Crème or Chuda Healing Hydrating Cream. Both are good and rich.
After skincare, I begin virtually every makeup application by combing up the brows to reveal their shape. Lately I’ve been loving the Tom Ford Brow Sculptor in Taupe. It adds a hint of color and has a great, waxy consistency that gives a really nice weight and strength to the brow. I hold them in place with Lanolips 101 Ointment; I use it everywhere from my lips to cuticles, as well.
Next, I curl my lashes. The Kevyn Aucoin Eyelash Curler is a longtime favorite. It’s got a rounded pad that gives a very gradual curl and a great shape that gets every last lash.
Then I go into foundation and concealer, applying only where I need it on a given day. A current obsession is Gressa’s Serum Foundation. It feels like luxurious skincare going on, gives phenomenal coverage and is super easy to work into the skin until it’s imperceptible. I usually just use my fingers and a damp black BeautyBlender.
It Cosmetics Concealer In A Pot has a great peachy tone that counteracts blue and grey under eye circles. I put it in this little Muji pillbox to cut down on weight in my makeup bag.
I use RMS Un-Cover-Up in 022 for spots: it’s coconut oil-based, so it’s great for drier skin and winter skin. I recently have been getting into the W3LL People Narcissist Foundation Stick. I carry a small sample, again to cut down on space in my bag.
Juice Beauty Photo-Pigments Juice Boost in Bronzing is great for warming up the skin and giving the appearance of having had some sun – without the damage. A little of this product goes a long way, and I’m always sure to check my blending in natural light as it does set after a bit of playtime so you want to be careful that there’s no trace of a line where you applied it. The Beauty Blender helps this.
For cheeks I use a mix of RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek in Diabolique which I apply with this and synthetic brush from Glossier (it’s meant for powder but I really like it for fanning on cream blush and getting a natural, perfectly diffused looking flush). Olio e Osso Tints (I carry about 5 shades of this grapefruit and olive oil infused salve in my bag on any given day and love them all). My current go-to’s are Currant (no pun intended), Bronze, and Crimson. They are great on lips too and don’t even require a mirror to apply because the formula is so forgiving. L
I’ve never really been a powder blush girl because I prefer the fresh, lived-in finish of a cream. The only downside of creams is that they don’t last as long so I’m always having to reapply. Kosås Contrachroma changed my tune. It’s so soft and finely milled that it’s almost like a cream blush. I use it to set mine and shade the face a bit in a very believable way. I love that I can apply with my fingers as well.
I always carry a lip option or two; currently Kosås Fringe and Henne Tinted Balm in Intrigue are in heavy rotation.
And I don’t always wear them, but I carry two mascaras: a black on from It Cosmetics with a very natural finish and a volumizing one from Chanel in the color Burgundy (not pictured) to bring out the blue-green in my eyes.
I like to have a black and a taupe eyeliner pencil on standby; Chanel and Kjaer Weis, respectively, as well as a shimmery peach cream shadow by Jillian Dempsey so I can basically make any smokey, neutral eyeshadow color I want without carrying a million products. It’s great for last minute evening plans or just when the mood strikes and I feel like intensifying my look. I also love using the Kjaer Weis Lip Pencils mixed in with the lip and cheek tints mentioned above to create my own long wearing lip and cheek color.
Instead of powder, which I don’t generally use on myself, I like to mist with a pure organic Rosewater from SW Basics. I love Tatcha’s beauty papers for blotting up shine in any unwanted areas. And I always carry Biossance 100% Squalane Oil to hydrate everything from my hands to dry skin patches to hair.
I also always carry a mini version of this Pure Nilotica Melt Nourishing Balm-to-Oil from LXMI that’s brilliant for taking off all manner of makeup (even waterproof) in one fell swoop.
I love to play with the transformative effects of makeup at work; to use color and texture to express something creatively with the clients and teams I work with.
On myself, however, I generally just like to wear makeup that balances my features, brings out what I want to bring out, and minimizes what I wish to minimize, and, overall, makes me feel like a more confident, polished version of myself. I have been loving playing up my brows lately, omitting mascara, and throwing on a bold berry lip; it’s fun to switch it up sometimes and play!
Makeup bag from Kosås and cherry blossom scarf a gift from my lovely assistant Arisa from Japan that makes me smile (and gives me wanderlust) when I look at it.”

How artist Paul Schütze began his journey from paper to perfume
Before photographer, artist and musician Paul Schütze even dreamed of designing fragrances and launching his own line, his obsession with the oft-overlooked sense of smell was already apparent the moment you stepped in to the gallery…
In 2014 Schütze exhibited Silent Surface – a collection of photographs comprising books on fire and with missing words – within the fitting surroundings of an antiquarian bookshop. A central piece of a blackened book resting atop a plinth wafted an other-worldly aroma he’d sprayed the pages with and, under the lights the fragrance diffused to fill the space. The piece was called IN LIBRO DE TENERIS, and the majority of visitors asked if they could buy this inky, woody, book-ish scent (they couldn’t, it hadn’t been created to wear on skin, just as a one-off aroma to enhance the experience of the show) but from that moment, his fragrant fate was sealed.
From then, Paul went on to immerse himself in the world of perfume, working with noses to design his very own trio of fragrances, all borne from olfactory memories of his extensive travels and the inherent artistic sense he has of interpreting the world around him.
Cirebon is a glowing citrus swathed in Tunisian orange blossom, inspired by Paul’s memory of a ‘… Night on the island of Java: by the edge of a lake; the perfumed sounds of a court gamelan orchestra drift across the water, hovering in the air like a constellation of shimmering insects,’ while Tears of Eros is an incense like no other, weaving a scent trail that takes you to ‘…The artist’s studio: Winter; incense from Kyoto’s Sanju Sangendo, a bowl of discarded clementine peel and a night blooming hyacinth; moonlit air from the open windows: these fragrances coalesce into a narcotic, heady, living incense.’ The last of the three so far – Behind the Rain – expands the beauty of mineralic petrichor (the smell that follows a downpour) with a trip to ‘…An island in the Aegean: a sudden violent rainstorm: as the storm ends, the warmth of the emerging sun on bruised foliage coaxes waves of resinous fragrance that wash down onto our place of shelter under a stand of conifer trees.’
Fascinated to learn more of Paul’s fragrant travels, we asked him to guide us through the most evocative, his personal favourites, and the scents that always inspire him…
What is your first ‘scent memory’?
Chlorine: I have loved swimming in pools since I can remember. I do my best thinking while plowing up and down the lanes letting the world slip away. The huge pleasure of it is inextricably bound to the smell of chlorine. The faintest whiff and I’m transported
When did you decide you wanted to design your own perfume?
I’d always wanted to but it was only four years ago that I realised it might be possible.
What are your five favourite smells in the world?
Well, chlorine – obviously, the interior of the Sanju Sangendo in Kyoto, the flesh of a perfect white peach, our dog Gilbert’s head smells delicious and finally the epicenter of Queen Mary’s Rose Garden (Regent’s Park) in the middle of Summer: the most dizzying, hallucinatory storm of perfumes imaginable.
What’s the worst thing you ever smelled. (Honestly!)
Red Bull: utterly nauseating! I have moved decks on the bus to avoid it.
What is the fragrance you wish you’d created?
Sycomore from Chanel’s Les Exclusives series
Do you feel (like us) that this is one of the most exciting times in fragrance history, because of the creativity being expressed by perfumers? Why do you think that is?
I think we are in a time of intense activity both in commercial perfumery and in the outer edges of experiment (Sisal Tolas and Peter De Cupere). Also because people are realizing that the classical way is not the only way. I think there are parallels with the birth of contemporary music and with visual abstraction.
If you could have created a fragrance for a historical figure, who would it be?
If I might be allowed a fictional historical figure then Des Esseintes the protagonist in Huysmans À rebours.
What’s the first fragrance you bought. And the first bought for you…?
The very first fragrance I bought was Grey Flannel. The first bought for me was Tabac Blonde.
Do you have a favourite bottle design?
I recently made a unique, triple strength version of Cirebon for my partner Chris’s 50th Birthday. I gave it to him in a very beautiful antique, stoppered bottle with a hinged gold cap. It sits in a leather sarcophagus-like case (see photo, below.)
How many perfumes might you be working on, at one time?
Depends, I prefer to work on only one but if I have commissions then it can be three or four at a time.
Does your nose ever ‘switch off’?
It does. Then I know to turn my attentions elsewhere. You can’t force things.
How long, roughly, does it take to create one of your fragrances?
The fastest was a single day the longest so far has been a little over a year.
Is designing a fragrance ‘visual’ for you, as well as something that happens in the nose/brain of the perfumer? If so, in what way…? Is a mood-board helpful?
No, barely visual at all. Very musical though. I often find myself confusing sounds and smells. I listen to music while I work and it is chosen with infinite care. I find time spent in certain architectural spaces hugely helpful in getting a bead on the “right” feel for a fragrance.
What can each of us do to enhance our appreciation of fragrance?
Smell everything. Stop deciding how things smell by merely looking at them. Grab things and burry your face in them. That goes for people too!
What is your best tip for improving a person’s sense of smell?
Again, just smell things: never buy food without taking the time to smell it extravagantly. Never begin to eat until you have savored the aromas of your food. If you find yourself in a lift, close your eyes and imagine the other people from the aromas surrounding you. Open windows and inhale. Never walk past plants, flowering or otherwise without taking the time to sniff them. Never, never worry about how nuts all this makes you seem!
If you had one fragrance note that you love above all others, what would that be?
Vetiver.
We couldn’t leave it there, because we particularly wanted to know about two unusual notes used in the fragrances, and so Paul explained why they are used.
Green Incense: I’m obsessed with incense both as a ritual item and as a family of smells. I love the idea of an incense which is living, green, not-yet-burnt.
Tamarind: Wonderful aroma which hits you in the taste buds as much as the nose. I can’t smell it without my mouth watering. It has a phenomenological impact on the body which I find really seductive.
With such instantly evocative and unique fragrances to launch the range, we can’t wait to see (and sniff) where Paul Schütze will take us next…
