(content warning for talk of insect eating)
Robert has a little issue with cravings.
They're a natural part of any human. But, Robert's particular craving is supernaturally strong. He wants to eat bugs. He can't help it. Since his change, they have become a fundamental part of his life. The taste of insects is the taste that his tongue desires.
But most days, the rush of power from eating insects cause him to have high levels of guilt, shame, and self-worth issues. Leading to him feeling trapped between the intense cravings and the rush of Dracula-induced guilt.
Rebecca's a good cop. She's been picking up on how his mood sinks whenever he breaks down and pounces on a bug, eating it. She hates how far his moods dip. He doesn't deserve that.
One day, Rebecca arrives at his apartment for a little experiment. She gives him a gift and he's startled when he opens it. Inside the giftbag is a package of roasted and flavored crickets. Robert's confused and anxious but she encourages him to try them.
Because the insects have been dead a long time and roasted, they have no life essence in them anymore. The taste and the crunch of the crickets bring him a familiar satisfaction. The protein fuels his body. But still the dead crickets do not activate his powers. With a little sob, Robert hugs Rebecca.
She promises to how him how to buy more IF he doesn't eat them around her.

Rebecca and Robert are walking to the car from group. They have just revived everyone and said their goodbyes for the evening. The night has a different feel to it now that Dracula is "gone". Both can feel it in their own way.
Night feels like more of a chill along Rebecca's spine than usual. There are now countless things lurking in any given shadow. Something far worse than any pathetic human criminal. Things that are big and dark and begging to drag their claws through her skin.
Night feels lighter on Robert's shoulders. There's moisture in his eyes, a silent sob caught in his throat like a bubble of stone. He can still feel the decades of blood coating his filthy hands but for the first time ever it actually feels like perhaps some of it will actually wash away.
The two get into Rebecca's car. Rebecca sits down in the seat like there's a lump of bricks weighing her down. Robert settles into his own seat like he's a leaf stuck on a breeze.
Both of their new perspectives slipping away as Robert suddenly whimpers. Rebecca's head whips to the side and she watches as his injured hands shake as he struggles to buckle his seat belt. Rebecca's heart clenches and she quickly does it for him.
She fixes him with a gruff but concerned look. Asks why he didn't take some of Dracula's blood, his hands are still damaged from the bastard's fangs. He shakes his head and says there isn't enough for something so minor. Rebecca gently curses. Why the hell hadn't they thought to just stick Robert's hands in the puddle of Dracula when they chopped him up?! God, she feels so stupid.
She mindlessly drives back to her place. The two enter. It's kind of "their" home now. Robert can't go back to his own yet. It's a crime scene.
She stands in the living room. She feels so useless. She watches Robert sit on the couch. He's hunched over as small as possible. Seeing him like this makes her dinner churn in her stomach.
She takes a small step closer to him. In a soft voice, she asks if he'd like for her to run him a bath. Says it'll help him relax. He makes a longing sound but shakes his head, says that his hands hurt too much currently to bathe himself.
Rebecca sighs and says she has an idea. She leaves and returns shortly wearing a rather modest bathing suit. Robert looks over at her and blushes softly before quickly looking up to meet her gaze. She's offering out a towel to him, tells him that she'll help. Awkwardly, he agrees and follows her to the bathroom.
It doesn't take long for Rebecca to run a warm bath. When Robert meets her in the bathroom wearing the towel she had given him. Rebecca smiles and comments that she's glad she likes big towels so that it actually fits his lanky ass.
Robert gets into the tub and Rebecca pulls up a folding chair. She sets down a first aid kit and sits down. Robert settles into the tub and practically melts into soothing heat of the water. He's barely paying attention as she cleans and bandages the wounds on his hands. They'll have to get him to a doctor if he wants to keep the function of his hands.
Conversation is almost non-existent. The silence is comforting and gentle. Rebecca gets to work gently washing him with a fluffy wash cloth from her towel closet. She's no stranger to bathing others. Once a long time ago, her sister had been shot on the job and had needed help.
She doesn't know how long she's there's taking care of Robert. She's kind of zoned out and so has he. It's not until she moves to wash his hair that she realizes that he's fallen asleep. She chuckles to herself and continues on her task with gentle hands. She uses a floral shampoo she can't stand but knows that he'll love.
When the deed is done, she runs a hand through his soaked hair. She ruffles it gently. "Time to get up, sleepy head. I'm not carrying your heavy ass to bed."

Rebecca is a sucker for a soft sweater.
She loves how they look. She loves how they feel. She especially loves how they feel when hugging someone wearing said soft sweater. She would be content to simply snuggle someone wearing a plush sweater for like an hour.
She loves that Robert loves sweaters. He's got the right kind of body shape and muscle mass to make a perfect snuggle partner when he's wearing one of his many sweaters. The feel of a good sweater can have Rebecca dozing in a matter of minutes.
Rebecca has a terrible habit of drifting off whenever she and her new friend have a movie night. She can't help it. He makes a great pillow.

Rebecca's honestly a little flabbergasted that Robert isn't a racist asshole.
Upon discovering that the man is at least 120 years old, she kind of expected him to be super racist. It's been a consistent and pleasant surprise that he doesn't even make subtly racist comments.
Feeling a bit awkward about it, she brings it up to him one day. He gives an awkward little chuckle and shakes his head. He explains that perhaps he used to be but in the past several decades, such thoughts would be extremely hypocritical. One cannot demonize those that are different when he is the most different. All humans are simply human to him. He's been to countless countries, seen and experienced many beautiful cultures, learned many languages, and has had people of all ethnicities try (and fail) to befriend him.
Rebecca laughs when Robert says that racism and prejudice is pointless. She couldn't agree more. She turns to him and grins, saying that the only people that deserve to have prejudice against them are vampires. She loves how he tries to hide a shy, knowing chuckle.

Time Line: Post-movie
Recovery has been an extremely exhausting experience. Robert and Rebecca need to discover together what is now "normal". Normal is a scary word for Robert. And for Rebecca, the word just sounds like lies. Her world will never be "normal" again because she has exposed the vile truth at her work and has discovered that the supernatural is real.
It's rather exhausting really.
Matters are made worse when Rebecca gets a text that one of her extended family members is graduating. She barely knows the kid. Now she has to scramble for a gift. She also needs to get Robert out of the house because he appears to be isolating himself, hiding from the world and its judgements.
Killing two birds with one stone becomes easy when Rebecca sees an ad for Build-A-Bear. Smirking to herself, she goes to Robert's home and practically drags him out of the apartment. Off to the mall they go!
There is an immediate problem. There are a lot of lights, a lot of people, and a god awful amount of sound in the massive mall. Robert is walking beside Rebecca but he's hunching more than usual. He's looking about too rapidly, too much. Rebecca needs to fix this.
The first step is the mall's electronics store. She buys Robert a pair of noise-dampening headphones. They're lavender and have little cat ears. Luckily his phone has a headphone jack. Confused, Robert puts on the headphones while Rebecca takes his phone, setting him up a Pandora subscription. She makes him a station with instrumental music and plugs in his headphones.
Robert's mood immediately relaxes and he thanks her gently.
Glad the problem's fixed, Rebecca grabs his hand and practically drags him to the Build-A-Bear. She lets him look around as she immediately goes to fetch the normal, mundane teddy bear so she can slap the graduation outfit on it.
While she is busy, a very shocked and confused Robert begins looking around the store. He's a bit creeped out by the stuffingless toy husks that lay in bins. What child would want that?!
An employee comes over and talks to him. She asks him how he is and without thinking, he replies that he's not doing very well and that he just got out of a toxic relationship. The employee is immediately sympathetic and explains that sometimes having a plush friend to hug and talk to is the best way to deal with bad feelings.
Thus starts Robert's first critter building experience!
He picks out a rainbow cat and the employee helps him through the process of the cat's creation. Robert even finds a little sweater and some jeans for the creature to wear.
After some time, Rebecca finds him. She asks what he has. He happily hands her his cat and introduces the cat as Lilly. He then smiles and hands her a wolf in a "leather" jacket. it's for her. Her whispers its for her to punch. She doesn't understand at first until he presses on the trigger for the plush's voicebox.
In a vaguely muffle voice, the wolf yells "I'm Teddy Lobo!".
Rebecca laughs loudly. She doesn't know how Robert got the recording of Teddy screaming his own name but she's sure the sound clip was pulled from videos that mobster idiot probably has of himself on Youtube.

Dracula feels cold all the time.
Dracula hates feeling cold.
But it is simply a fact of reality when you're undead.
As such, Dracula hates cold places and loves warm things. His suits and his cape are not only to denote his rightful placement society but also because they are very warm. Moving with enough layers on eventually creates enough friction that it warms his dead body.
Candles. They're not only atmospheric light that doesn't hurt his eyes, they also give off a surprising amount of heat when there's well over a hundred of them in a room. Dracula loves candles as well as fireplaces. They warm the air of his lair.
Dracula hates drinking blood corpses. They blood is cold, congealed, and stagnant. When he drinks blood from a living body, the blood is so hot that it warms his body for a short time because he ingests so much. This is why he demands that Renfield bring him unconscious people to eat.

Since the fall of Dracula, Robert has had to learn how to be self-sustaining once again. But just because he's self-sustaining doesn't mean he gets zero help. Rebecca is always willing to help him out with everyday tasks, even ones that seem like they shouldn't be that hard to deal with.
She finds out very early that grocery shopping is one of those extremely daunting tasks. But if he runs out of food, he'll just not eat until it gets unbearable.
She will not stand for that!
Rebecca decides that the best way to make grocery trips less awful was for them to go together. She made it a routine to help him. Every Saturday the two would go out to lunch (Robert would happily pick out new restaurants to try). After lunch, they will both grocery shop for the week.
Robert looks forward to their grocery trips now. While the shopping is still awful. Making decisions long term about what he'll want to eat during the week is mentally exhausting. He's able to work past this though because Rebecca will add little suggestions here and there that help to spark ideas in Robert about what meals to try.
Plus, if he's shopping with her, he'll have way too much food in the cart and that means he's saved from the trials of having to do the self-checkout.

Renfield is fairly good at gardening and can grow his own food.
Being a familiar is tricky business. The powers Renfield has gotten may be supernatural but his body is still human. It needs nutrients. And not just protein (from the bugs). It also needs vital things from vegetables. But when one works for Dracula and looks how Renfield does, one can't just go buy groceries and take them back to the castle.
Renfield had to learn a different way.
Because Dracula is always about the big, rich aesthetics, all his properties have had massive gardens. He was also kind enough to allow Renfield to use a small patch of the gardens to grow food in.
When hunting for Dracula's meals, Renfield would also grab things for his own meals. A stolen potato or carrot would be stashed away in Renfield's pockets. After getting the victim to Dracula, Renfield would skitter off to the gardens and plant his new prizes. With enough care, in time he would cultivate a lovely potato and carrot patch.
Because gardening is a hard job, especially after hunting humans, sometimes Renfield would fall asleep in the dirt. If Dracula was pleased with his own meal and in a good good, sometimes he would fetch Renfield from the gardens and put him to bed.

🩸 - Dracula?

Despite his severe dislike for being cold, Dracula loves the thrill of being a vampire.
The rush of power he fills each night is unlike anything he ever felt while human. The rush of killing a man with the swipe of his hand or the snap of his jaws is unlike anything else he has ever experienced.
The thrill of the hunt far outweighs any drawbacks being a vampire brings to him. He was never a fan of Christianity or Catholicism when he was alive, so there's no loss there. He doesn't miss the light of the sun, though he does miss the warmth. But nighttime is just a much better aesthetic.
And Dracula is very particular about the aesthetics he surrounds himself with.
Also, wood architecture is overrated.
