As a standard the Movie Industry always makes the smart girl look frumpy or awkward...I hate that they categorize them differently from the ‘pretty’ girl. Think of Scooby Doo - why can’t Velma be seen as the pretty girl and why can’t Daphne be seen as smart?! Especially when the opposite is true for the men in that show! The ‘handsome’ Fred is considered smart while the frumpy Shaggy is seen as not smart. Hmm...something to think about... . I do my best to show my daughter that just because she’s seen as pretty or as a model doesn’t mean that she is not also smart. I make sure to give her every opportunity possible to learn, explore and exercise her knowledge. As you can imagine, I was elated when she came home and wanted to join the robotics club at school!
