i know its so so so so redundant to talk about how dumb the nft/crypto sphere is, but the dookey dash post thats been circulating today has reminded me that a big goal for nft guys is to "disrupt" the current state of gaming (and the internet as a whole) through widespread blockchain integration.
from what i can tell, despite the UTTERLY RIDICULOUS capital that is behind the movement, the greatest execution of this so far (by easily the largest entity in the space) was a shitty temple run clone browser game that was extremely easily exploited.
to a lot of these guys, i have a very strong feeling that "gaming" is really nothing more than the space with the greatest potential for them to initially exploit -- since many popular games allow the player to create a digital avatar that they can use to represent themselves, clearly it would be the most compatible with their own digitally-exclusive method of creating (buying) something that they feel TRULY belongs to them as property.
since you can easily just save an image of someone's "personal" ugly ape picture and potentially use it to represent yourself, the sense of ownership is diminished; to remedy this, they want to reinvent gaming (and the web in a wider sense) to specifically accommodate their own fixation on "true" ownership of a digital asset.
the actual interest in playing/developing a truly good game is an afterthought. the real objective is to make digital asset ownership both infallible and universal; essentially, it is to make (their version of) the steam inventory system something that is integrated into every major digital service, impossible to avoid interaction with, and impossible to exploit.
while personal financial gain is CLEARLY the #1 biggest motivator for these people, just as it is for many game companies, what they desire is far more than to turn out a product that nets them a comfortable profit; they desire a full-on upheaval of how the average person interacts online, and this will NEVER be achieved through making shitty mobile game clones. to do such a thing requires talent that, thankfully, does not presently exist in the nft space. if this talent DID exist, surely it would manifest through something far greater than "dookey dash"
