Blaseball is dead.
here's an article I wrote about one wild incident of emergent narrative weirdness, an at-bat where a little frog refused to stop swinging at pitches and locked up the entire engine for a while.
oh and also the Herman Melville story Bartleby the Scrivener. it's about that too.
as Blaseball wraps up, and in the face of a few pretty disappointing years of collapsing fan-driven projects like it, I'm feeling a lot of the ambivalence that comes late in the piece:
Characters like Bartleby and Chorby appeal to me because they represent a disruption, a suggestion that things can be different than they are if we simply... well, not "stop playing by the rules", exactly. After all, nothing here was against the rules, it emerged from the rules themselves, and the force of Chorby's and PolkaDot's natures colliding together. No, this was malicious compliance, carrying out orders to the letter of the law, behaving like a silly little automaton, doing exactly what the boss says even when doing so would obviously result in disaster. This kind of thing doesn't necessarily work out for the maliciously compliant. Sorry for the spoilers for a century-and-a-half-old story but Bartleby ultimately dies in poverty. The Magic did not win the game in which Chorby carried out her heroic string of foul balls.
I guess it's hard for me not to look at the postmodernists like Slavoj Zizek for whom Bartleby is an iconic figure, and look at the kind of "leaderless" and "demandless" movements driven by ambient refusal that they championed, and not feel like just refusal and random malicious compliance don't make for a particularly sustainable movement. by the same token, The Game Band seems to have really tried to operate their company differently, to opt out of some of the business practices that we all kind of hate the game industry for employing. a live service game that doesn't include a form of gambling with real money? a franchise that encourages fans to produce their own merch? wow! then later: ah, well, nevertheless.
it makes me think of a bit in Graber's Utopia of Rules where he describes the difficulties of an anarchist house collectively owning a car, and how they come not from anything as obvious as scheduling, but from figuring out how to define that collective ownership within a legal state framework that assumes one person's name will be on the insurance. it seems difficult to build a new world parasitically inside of, and from the matter, of the old.

how do y'all feel about Blaseball Story Time, because i saw fan art of Fish Summer in a Georgias jersey and it got me thinking about the Georgias' quest to have a Hot Fish Summer. putting this all under the cut because it's a Long Story
so! the Georgias are a new team, and we are Not Very Good. we aren't that keen on trading our players, but after a few seasons with little in way in results, it's clear that we're gonna need to if we ever want to get ahead. thankfully, it didn't take a lot of time for us to find a player that most Georgias fans could agree on: Fish Summer.
there was a lot we liked about Fish Summer. obviously, the name and theming were on point for us, but they were also a notably minmaxed player, with some of the best batting in the league, but really low stats in everything else. this might not sound attractive on paper, but with the Equivalent Exchange will in play, it meant that we wouldn't have to give up one of our best players if we wanted Fish to join our team, letting us give up a mediocre player in favor of one who would be a massive boon to our lineup.
still, we were a bit hesitant -- Fish Summer was on the Moist Talkers at the time, and Talkers fans were very attached to Fish. we wanted to maintain good relationships with the rest of the league, and if we stole a Team's fan-favorite player, what would the chances be that they'd just reverse the trade in the next election? fortunately for us, a wimdy would send Fish from the Talkers to the Crabs, and we decided that would be our time to strike. we put up our Season 16 voting guide, encouraging fans to trade Mordecai Kingbird for Fish Summer.
unfortunately, the Georgias were very prone to weird wimdy trades at the time, and instead of trading Mordecai for Fish Summer, we traded him for Montgomery Bullock, a pitcher from the Fridays who couldn't bat to save their life. we didn't particularly care for Monty, so when the end of the season rolled around, we traded them off to the Crabs in order to finally enjoy a Hot Fish Summer. this trade would be intercepted by the Crabs however, who put in a wimdy vote that would trade Fish for Wyatt Mason IV (aka Ivy), a Tacos pitcher who also couldn't bat to save their life. hilariously, this triple-trade left all three players involved in a position they absolutely sucked at, benefiting no one.
that being said, after that mishap, we were kind of over Fish Summer. we moved Ivy to our rotation, and by that point, we had partied enough that our roster was actually looking pretty good. it was time to put Fish Summer behind us.
this would not last for long. our respectable rotation would soon give up Ivy and Jan Canberra for Dickerson Morse and Goobie Ballson, who are more recognized for "Dick and Balls" jokes than their pitching talent, and respectable small-ball leadoff hitter Niq Nyong'o would be incinerated and replaced with Ji-Eun Clove, who could only hit the occasional triple once in a blue moon. the Georgias were once again Bad, and with a bunch of newbies we didn't particularly care for, trading for Fish Summer was once again on the menu.
and this time, it went off without a hitch! in Season 21, we traded Goobie Ballson for Fish Summer, who thanks to our new Fax Machine and Voicemail, had a quick path to the Georgias' lineup. this was it. the Georgias were finally Good again.
or so we thought. while Season 22 was the best season of the Georgias' career, a new problem would plague us, which was Flooding. Flooding was rampant in the Expansion Era, and players were being sent Elsewhere left and right, with Fish Summer being no exception. Fish Summer would end up spending the majority of their Georgias career Elsewhere, playing a total of 58 games for us over the course of three seasons. Atlantis may have loved Fish Summer, but Fish Summer decidedly did not love Atlantis.
anyway, after a long siesta, Blaseball would return with Fall Ball, which would send Fish Summer to the Shoe Thieves, which would be their final team as Blaseball would end two seasons later, ending the Georgias' Hot Fish Summer once and for all.
and you wanna know the funniest part? i don't think the Georgias even did that much with Fish Summer's lore after getting them! i mean, i would frequently forget Fish was even on our team, and i'm not sure how much they were developed past "lol a player named Fish on the ocean team" and "man Fish really hates it here huh". and despite this, Fish managed to leave one heck of a legacy on the team.

the thing is, okay. and i know not everyone agrees with me on this one and that’s okay, different interpretations are fun and keep things interesting. but. the thing is that i don’t want the ending where all the people who never fell or who died or who were lost all come back.
like. blaseball was horrible, and horrifying, and that was what i liked most about it. i liked the death and the grief and the negative emotions, and the weight that they gave the good moments when they happened to come along. people died; they are gone; they were mourned.
and the way blaseball ended… didn’t give us, as fans, any kind of closure. it just. stopped. i like leaving the players in that same place, and processing the emotions of being left in the lurch through the ones who didn’t get the ending we would have given them if we chose, or the ending they would have gotten if it all played out how it was supposed to.
again, i get and appreciate the other interps. the happy endings are all well and good. i just prefer the one that does not feel like it ended how it was all supposed to, because. it didn’t! it was weird and off kilter and off putting to witness for me, so. it can be for the players, too.

i don't think anything will ever replace blaseball, but i think it's inspired a lot of us. there are nearly 30k people in the discord, tgb have said before that people in the discord are a minority of players so i think it's safe to estimate at least 60k fans. 60k potential artist and writers and programmers and other creative endeavors.
60k people inspired by this little splort.
as much as we all joke that we do not mention homestuck in the community, and as much as I don't think they are anything alike in content, i do think that they are alike in the way they have inspired so many people.
blaseball will never be replaced, but I do feel it will have a lasting impact on how stories are told by people on the Internet

SIESTA GO BACK TO SLEEP
Tumblr media
ID: A message from The Game Band on the Blaseball website which reads as followed:
"Hey Blaseball Fans,
We’ve spent the last year planning for the future, building and rebuilding the Sim, and figuring out how to run Blaseball in a way that’s sustainable for us as a team. Finally, after that long hiatus, Blaseball returned with a new Era. Rejoice!
…But that rejoicing quickly turned into some confusion and frustration. Put plainly, even with all the work we did, we still didn’t get Blaseball to where we wanted it to be for this launch.
Our hope was to be able to iterate and improve post-launch, but as we tried to do that, we realized it just wasn’t realistic for the amount that needed to be done. And it was negatively impacting your experience. We need to make improvements. We’ve heard your concerns about things like accessibility, missing features, site navigation and performance issues, and often found you saying the exact same things we were saying to each other.
In order to get the game where it needs to be, we’re pausing the Era for now. This is NOT going to be a repeat of our last Siesta — we are going to come back as soon as possible.
We’re really excited about the Era of Blaseball we have planned for you. What you’ve seen so far is only the tiniest tip of the iceberg.
We’ll be posting & emailing you weekly updates as we make these improvements.
Stay tuned.
The Game Band"
End ID.
tl;dr: site was borked, they're unborking it, hang tight
i respect the decision to refocus to make sure the experience doesn't feel like it's seriously lacking. thanks, tgb. 💜

I feel terrible because no matter how hard I try, I can't put into words exactly how much blaseball, and especially the community, meant to me. This stupid little baseball game is literally the reason I'm alive today, and to see it end, so abruptly and with so little closure, breaks my heart. I wish there was anything I could do to bring it back, but I know I can't. Everything has to end at some point, I guess. I just wish it didn't have to end right now.
To everyone, and especially to my fellow magic fans: thank you. thank you. thank you. You mean more to me than I can possibly say. Thank you for participating in the cultural event of blaseball with me.
We are all love blaseball, always.

A write-up I did on a sidecord about my take on Blaseball’s current “ending”. I don't feel like rewriting it here right now, so take a screenshot.
EDIT: Transcript for screen readers under the cut.
i was thinking about how i want my whole “premature end of coronation era and blaseball” thing to go.... and i think i want to go in a wildly different direction from what i’ve seen.
in my version of things, something has ground the league to a halt. maybe the bridge has collapsed (i headcanon that the bridge era was the longest siesta the splort has every seen... until now), maybe the umps are fighting (insert “the girls are fighting” tweet here), maybe a little piece of aequitas, of all things, has shown up and is making things difficult for everybody in general. the point is, this is not a situation in which play can resume.
even if the current players wind up getting released, the end result is still the same. play has halted until it is possible for blaseball to return... if it can at all. everything’s sort of... stagnated. (and if the players really are released, perhaps the lifespan(s) of a player, former or otherwise, might be long enough that if the league ever returns they can try their hands at being the fans and try to improve things.)
don’t get me wrong, i like the other endings people have come up with, but i also want to mourn the ending we could’ve gotten. i’m putting my sadness, disappointment and frustration with the situation into this. it isn’t really an end... just an unexpected stop.
(also i’m not that big of a fan of “the magic goes away” style endings... seeing them just makes me sadder)

well jenkins won my poll from a while ago so i guess its my time to talk about jenkins. lemme kinda go back to the beginning about it.
So, Season 12 is when i started being a blaseball fan. I officially on the site roll up to the canada moist talkers on the election sunday that the big siesta starts so im out here like what the fuck is going on while my pal corvoda is a decent bit more interested than i am at that point but i digress.
I miss the coffee cup and related events and i finally start showing my face in the discord, i think i got started on jenkins because i had stumbled across some of the blaseball rp twitters and wanted to join in, so i picked a blaseball player who didn't have a twitter at the time which was jesús and jenkins and i picked jenkins.
there is a message specifically telling me that jenkins doesnt get much love compared to other players on the team and lemme tell you, i took that PERSONALLY.
the first couple things i learned about jenkins was assorted stuff from their wiki. Flaming eye, gamer, and from greer's wiki i think i learned that jenkins and greer were.... something. relationship something.
after a while, i took a crack at making a jenkins interp that combined two other interps i had seen, big lizardy jenkins and mostly humanoid jenkins and ended up with salamander jenkins, eventually switching over to leopard gecko jenkins.
the thing that both entertained me and made me sad is that nothing ever really happened to jenkins. this player who i loved so much didnt recieve a stat buff till late expansion, despite being active with the same stat total since s4 election. sure they got crows mod but rarely did they play in bird weather just cuz of how weather works.
if i can be salty a little bit, i've always had a weird relationship with greer because of how much we focus on her. i know buff greer was funny and it definitely is super funny dont get me wrong but jenkins was a great pitcher until the stat creep hit. we still has to spend several elections on greer because she was a fan favourite. i feel in my heart that if it had been jenkins in that feedback there probably wouldnt have been as much of a push to get them back and idk that always scared me.
its not that jenkins was truly irredeemably bad at the time but compared to a player like greer? if we had to choose between greer or jenkins in something i know greer is winning and that does weird things to my brain sometimes idk i will digress again
jenkins being an active player vs kennedy trevino tyvi who are (were, in tyvi's case) fuckin dead is a wierd space to be in too. especially now that jenkins is on the tacos in new era i rotate between happiness that the tacos like them and deathly fear that theyre going to misconstrue something about them because jenkins is just so specifically Talkers-fied that you really had to be there for the jenkins conversations to understand jenkins' vibes. Its one of those things that like, jenkins was an s1 talker, they had all this time on the team so you just Got the vibes.
my sad thing about jenkins on the tacos? i feel like i cant talk about them anymore. my jenkins is talkers jenkins and i dont know the tacos and i am afraid. this is not my jenkins good anymore this is a whole other jenkins now and i think.... thats really the thing thats fucking me up about this new era. but at least jenkins is doing okay last i checked.
uhhhh lemme actually say some fun headcanons here... Jenkins has a math related degree in Orb Studies and can determine the exact salt content in food just by licking it. they eventually get a pet gecko named Adkins.

Do you like TAKING SURVEYS?
If you answered yes to any of the above, then please follow the link below to an important Houston Spies Vibe Check survey.
With the issuance of the First Strike to the Spies, a contingent of Spies fans have put together this survey with the intention of sending it out as far as we can, in order to hear from as many Spies fans as possible. We want to know how the wider fanbase feels about the Strike, and how we feel about moving forward trying to get more.
If you are not a Spies fan, you may still fill out the survey (it's fun to fill out surveys!) just make sure to indicate that you are not a Spies fan.

thinking about The Garages, like, the fanbase. Cause Blaseball is so intrinsically ties to 2020. and listening to Fight Gods especially... it felt like anything was possible.
we're gonna fight gods, and we're gonna win
and the late discipline era/early expansion was so rough. the garages as a team were so principled that they refused to elect captains, instead giving everyone those discord permissions. But that wasn't sustainable, apparently. so they were required to elect captains representives on maincord.
and then I realized, nobody really talked about how we were gonna kill all gods. There were so many players now: The Reader, The Coin, The Monitor, Löotcrates, Parker. And despite being the biggest team by numbers, the garages as a team were really a presence on maincord.
there were great moments, where we remembered how it was. Whenever the Pies and Garages got together, celebrated the players we shared over the seasons. The energy remined me how summer of 2020 felt. Chatting with friends and allies, certain in the back of my head that something was gonna change.
and we will get our vengeance in the end
Humorous little one off moments became more and more frequent though, through expansion. Is scab a slur, supporting Parker, loving on The Monitor, Necromancy discourse. It was fun, don't get me wrong. I've stuck with it for years. I dont think it really changed all that much.
But I did. after the 2020 protests died down to a whisper, and all of the sudden Roe v. Wade gets repealled and no one even burns down a Judge's or Politician's house. there's been something I've lost that I had when blaseball started
and now here we are, in the second grand siesta. Nothing's happening, nothings changing, but at the same time, there's this creeping... something.
"Kill All Gods is problematic"
"Most Garages lore is racist at its core"
Reps are gone, but not in the same way they were when the Garages insisted "there is no second chair."
And now, as blaseball's starting up again, it feels like the slow process has finally reached some point. Everything before, the teams we've built both players and fans? I don't know how much it matters.
I love my blaseball friends. If The Game Band went bankrupt tomorrow and just gave up on blaseball, there's so many of them I'd still hang out with online, still chat with and check in on.
But blaseball itself feels so far away. Fight gods? I just want to try and make sure we don't get caught up in another round of disc horse. Putting out the Sun? I just want to know when play starts again, how many of the fans will I recognize? how many faces that I thought I would see in a month or two will I never see again?
And nothing will remain the same again
and our redemption arc is coming up

Fun lil piece of my lil fan blaseball team that I created based partially on a dumb idea & partially bc me & a friend made our own league following Season 24 ending. Some of them (F. Blackburn, Peekaboo & Catmint) are partially based on the blaseball players but largely it was me taking them & running without any real ties to the existing lore because we were in some weird feelings about how it all ended. Undercut is short lore blurbs about them.
(ordered Alphabetically & not in line up. Line up wise is actually batters vs. pitchers, with batters on the left and pitchers right. Jot is the first pitcher. Any mentions of other teams are based on the friend league & not actual league)
Astrothesia (Astro) Ringmaster: Tired. just has broken handcuffs and people have asked if they want them off but. Probably has not said a single word in years and no one has any idea why. Middling batter.
Catmint Chen (Mint, Chen): Fighty, has purposely pegged someone with a ball more than once, definitely has bitten someone. Does not go Nya and has strong rivalry with Rust which the others don't know how to deal with.
Doc Latenight (Doc): Def belong on the burned but also is just a real ass doctor??? No one is sure why he doesn't just do something Not Here, nocturnal & he does NOT have red blood. Alright Batter who probably has pissed off the Medics at least once.
Enid: Weakest pitcher and the Baby of the team. Probably has made kissy faces at The Stars and The Heart batters which just has killed everyone else. Probably has some kind of magic
F.(itzgerld) Backburned (Blackburn, Fitz): Dad vibes and dad jokes. Oldest of them & definitely doesn't have a Thing with Jot. Still talks about the Plan but  no one knows what The Plan is -- least of all him!
Haunt Dataleak (Data): No one knows what's up there. Has licked things they shouldn't have and it's upsetting to Everyone. The worst person to share food with and drank mercury at least once.
Jot Regicide (Jot): Tired dad vibes. The scariest pitcher on the team, and DOES pitch with the eyepatch on which somehow doesn't effect the pitching??? Only person who might know The Plan. does not comment on The Plan.
Lady Scandal (Lady): Best girl, second best batter. Probably does NOT flirt with other teams players but does just flex & get people to swoon. Blackburned does not know what to do with them.
Nucleus Youngblood (Nuke) & Peekaboo Nameperson (Peek): person behind Peekaboo, uses magic to hide themselves and bats through the puppet. Peek and Nuke have VERY different personalities and most of their teammates only talk to one or the other; Astro, Lady, Mint & Haunt only talk to Peek, everyone else prefers Nuke bc they ARE polite. Peek is not polite. Peek is very rude.
Rust Wanderlust (Rust): Mint's bitter rival and a stupid good outfielder. Has been pegged with a baseball and made Doc deal with her injury. Rust HAS caught a ball with her mouth and it was a wild experience for everyone involved (and then Rust was told never to do that again)
The Criminale (Crim): Blackburn & Jot are the only ones who know what the FUCK their name is/was and everyone is pretty sure using a gun to pitch IS illegal by some standards but??? they haven't been stopped??? No one has seen Crim sleep and that's scary!

oh goodness, ok. hi? is this thing on? sorry, wi-fi is a little spotty in! i've been told i can't say where i am. but wi-fi is a little spotty here. good morning!
uh, games...!! we've been winning... we have a winning record! gosh, i don't know how to talk about blaseball anymore. i was in that hole, dreaming for so long, and now it keeps screaming at us and throwing things onto the field. which... is not the most hostile environment i've played in, but for goodness' sakes. :/
everything feels... different. well, there's one key difference, but... i've just never played this blaseball before. there are some players, some people who will tell me stories about season 1, the first season 1, and stuff like that, but i always played with... more. this is empty. and... there's no flood. which, um. kind of defined my blaseball experience back in the day, in multiple ways.
i'm... still figuring everything out. i have to field now, like, real fielding, where we don't just make everything up?! and i'm still getting used to my new uniform. all this just to affirm that i'm still kicking, i guess. god, there haven't been any solar eclipses... i haven't even seen a Sun. bluh. anyway.
i hope everyone's doing okay out there. i can't... tell if i see Fans in the stands here at, um... yes. a place i can't tell you about. so i'm not sure... well, anyway. i still love you all. please stay safe? i don't trust this feeling of safety, and i don't believe we're not in danger. there's something coming, and it's coming fast.
see you on the field!

YOU'RE FINE!! i have been posting them with no explanation at all. this will be under a cut because i have a feeling it might get long
so blaseball was (RIP) an absurdist horror fantasy baseball simulator that had a little over a dozen teams with ai players play games every hour, on the hour, monday-friday, with saturday being the playoffs, and sunday being the election (we'll get there). it had themes of death and sacrifice and rebelling against the system and i miss it dearly every single day. folds my hands. um. where do i start. hmmmm. games looked like this!
Tumblr media
on the left you have the teams and their scores. in the middle you have the current pitcher and batter, balls, strikes, outs, etc. and then the game log on the right! very minimalist but it gets everything across. there were different weather types that could have some effect on the games; peanut weather had peanut rain falling from the sky, and depending on whether a player was allergic or not, they had a chance to swallow a peanut and get buffed or nerfed. bird weather had birds. solar eclipses could incinerate players, etc.
and incineration was a big thing. if a player got incinerated they were gone for good* and immediately replaced by another randomly generated player. and the thing about these players. this was all we had of them
Tumblr media
(featuring my bestie boyf <3 riv i loved them so much)
just their name, stars, and some random fun facts. but people got VERY attached, especially if it was a fun name like boyfrind monreal, or jessica telephone, or jaylen hotdogfingers
so blaseball kind of evolved to have a very creative fanbase that lored all of their characters together, getting very attached to numbers on the screen that might get fucked up at any moment
there was of course also the story that the devs were trying to tell, but it was very collaborative with the fanbase; it was kind of like a giant and messy ttrpg, with the devs as the gm. becase fans got to influence the story through the elections!
basically, you bet on games with fake coins, and you use your winnings to buy vote tickets, and you use those tickets for two things: decrees, and blessings. decrees changed the fundamental rules of blaseball. for example, in season 3, these were the decrees:
Tumblr media
and blessings were kind of like a raffle that you enter in on behalf of the team you're a fan of; they were things that effect a single team, and if you vote for them, your team has a chance to win it. these were some blessings in season 12!
Tumblr media
and during it all, there were the blaseball gods, bickering and trying to control the league, usually directly opposed to the fans (us!). both eras that we got to experience in full were about killing the god that ruled over that era
so. when it comes to a stranger things au. i think we throw some of this out the window LMAO. specifically the whole election thing, i don;t think fans will play a role in this at all... it will be player focused. but i have some ideas on how it could work you know. i can see it play out in my brain.
god i didn't even touch on a lot of stuff, this is really only tip of the iceberg on what makes blaseball so fun and interesting, but if you want to know more you can always dm me! and @devondespresso i saw you reblog my other post and ask what blaseball is so :) here! i hope this made some sort of sense lol. feel free to ask any clarifying questions!
(this is @scoopertroopers) this wqhole time... i thought you were just spelling baseball wrong. what the fukc
CRYING LAUGHING. no i am talking about the absurdist horror fantasy baseball simulator that has consumed my life for 3 years <3

i recognize and understand why complicated parent-child dynamics are not as common in this fandom and that is why i will never write a fic from moses’ perspective <3
#blaseball //#don’t want this in the main tag BUT if anyone has it blacklisted#LIKE OKAY. admittedly I don’t know a lot about how this relationship is interpreted by most flowers fans like I Do Not Know#but chambers adopted AN ENTIRE ORPHANAGE OF KIDS#AND HE DID NOT HAVE A CO PARENT OR A COMMUNE#YKNOW WHAT THAT SOUNDS LIKE?? A BAD CHILDHOOD—#single dad chambers ‘ace’ simmons is one thing i could roll with it and make them Familial if moses were one of like five or six kids maybe#but there’s no way you get that kind of bonding from a single adoptive parent of literally dozens of kids it just isn’t. possible.#esp since Ace was already older when this happened and also is a blaseball player!!! he didn’t have TIME#I have a lot of thoughts about Moses I think they’ve moved past it I think they’ve come to terms with things#and they’ve been through a lot outside of all that anyway and they try to be laidback and relaxed about most things#but the solution there is to just. not fucking talk about it. like it’s behind them they’re their own person now and that’s fine.#Moses with layna and jacob is the calm reassuring sane one because they never had the opportunity to be anything else#they were wyatt masoned. they were claimed by the garden. before any of that they had to be self sufficient and likely care for siblings.#so this. hitting the ball and running the bases and spending time with the people they love. this is all easy. you can’t rattle them.#(Ace can rattle them. just by default of. history. but he tries to give Moses space and Moses takes it.)#the END#LIKE I JUST. THINK IT IS WEIRD. THAT WE TOOK A HOLLYWOOD ACTOR AND CHILD OF ONE OF OUR PLAYERS.#AND TURNED THEM INTO A WEIRD CONCRETE PERSON COVERED IN FLOWERS.#I FEEL LIKE THAT LEAVES A LOT OF QUESTIONS AND UNRESOLVED THINGS—#this is why Moses has to be a person in my humble opinion. a monstrous one. but a person.#god okay I gotta get up and do things now if I post anything else before like 2pm whack me with a broom

where should i go to learn more about each blaseball team's culture? i took the quiz that you shared a link to forever ago and got mexico city wild wings, but i want to read more about them and other teams. i tried splortsmanship.cool, which was another website provided, but i think a lot of it has been edited. all i can find is a page titled How To Play with instructions. are there any other places to get a feel for each team without joining 109636287483 discord servers?
this is a great question that unfortunately i don't have a great or succinct answer for - blaseball team cultures very much developed on discord and have mostly stayed there. however! some resources for you that i could find:
the houston spies have a website with lot of onboarding resources including this fun powerpoint for vibe-checking teams
they also have a list of other teams' websites. unfortunately not every team has one and seeing this made me want to make a carrd or website for my team
specifically in your case the wild wings have a carrd with some links! it looks a little old but it should get the point across
if you have any interest in joining discord servers (and to be perfectly clear: if this is not your vibe, then you should not do this) there's the main blaseball discord and the wings site has a link to their team server. frankly on principle i don't think you should join more than that nor should you have to but i'm not a wings fan and i don't know how they do things
(allegedly once the website comes back there'll be on-site social features to coordinate with your team so we can move away from the discord model, thank god)
the blaseball wiki is imperfect and a little outdated, but it's a good place for further vibe-checking. there's a lot of stuff here and it can be overwhelming, but it's good if you have a specific team in mind
also i love the team affinity quiz!! someone is currently working on an update (there are three teams that didn't exist when that team was made lol) and i will make sure to share it here once it's updated. i think it's a really cool tool!!
that's all i have for you right now - i'm going to tag @mexicocitywildwings (hi avery) for what i hope are obvious reasons and encourage my blaseball friends who might have good resources for team vibe-checking to drop them in the replies.
thanks for dropping by! i hope this helped, feel free to come back with more questions c:
