1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)

I'm going to separate this out by my major fandoms and also intentionally pick fics that are 5k or less because I feel like that works better for an introduction than "here read my 240k opus." (That said you are also more than welcome to start with my 240k opus. 😜)

For Dragon Age: Looking Forward, a FenHawke fic set post-Inquisition.

For Fallout: This is a tough one but I'll say God Bless, a short Juliebeth and Freeside fic through the eyes of Bill Ronte.

For Red vs. Blue: Relative Peace is the first in my main Kimbalina series and probably a good intro to my Carolina fics generally.

And a bonus I guess, though I haven't written a lot for the Penumbra Podcast: After You, a Jupeter fic set at the end of season 1.

3. What are some tropes or details that you think are very characteristic of your fics?

If it's a fic over 10k and somebody (usually a woman) isn't screaming, crying, or having a panic attack at some point, did I really write it? �� I like writing emotional outbursts/meltdowns and these have become something of a staple in my longfics.

26. Would you rather write a fic that had no dialogue or one that was only dialogue?

I'm pretty sure I've written both!

As much as I adore writing dialogue (character voices are one of my favorite aspects of writing), I actually feel like the grounding details of setting, movement, gesture and expression are really important to me, and it feels incomplete without them. So I'm more likely in the end to write something silent and introspective than pure dialogue. There are exceptions though! I've written fic in the form of a "transcript" which is all dialogue with some minimal "stage direction" type indicators, and that's also fun in its own way.

37. Promote one of your own “deep cut” fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!). What do you like about it?

I don't know about underrated, as I don't tend to think of my fics in those terms. But in addition to fics for Dragon Age I sometimes write poems or songs! Fear Not is a Chasind lullaby I wrote for a specific fic (Gifts of the Hunt, Morrigan/F!Mahariel; Morrigan sings it to Kieran). This one actually has a melody and one day I will get around to recording it (Mr. Apocalypse works from home these days so it's harder for me to find a quiet time to record things) but I did post the lyrics as a standalone work.

so, the trespasser part of the pavellan fic is No Victory Was Theirs To Claim. it follows dorian's POV of trespasser events up to yuo going thru the mirror and then what happens after

Our God No Longer Rises To Our Defense is solas's POV of what occurs between him and yuo after yuo passes thru the eluvian to confront him. i'm sort of dreading it becuz i don't want to write solas's POV lmao but i've resigned myself to the fact that it must be done. i do think it will be an interesting challenge tho

3. Do you anticipate writing for a new fandom this year? Which one?

Maybe!! I'd really like to write a fic focused on Dragon Age: Origins or Skyrim this year :O Zevran is my OG fav for dragon age and it is heinous I haven't written him yet

11. Would you like to try any new fanfic genres or tropes this year?

YESSS I'm trying to write more longfic with heavier focuses on plot this year! It's very intimidating but I'm writing outlines n stuff in hopes it'll help me. Would love to play more with the "oblivious x Very Aware" trope in my pavellan fic this year as well

23. ship you’ve unwillingly come around to

See this is tough one because I am, in general, extremely Willing. 😂 There aren't many DA ships that I actively dislike and my response to most new ones is "Okay, sell me on it!" As a multishipper and a rare pair shipping I am very willing to be Persuaded.

There are definitely a few times a ship has surprised me though, where I didn't think I was into it and then I stumbled across a fic I liked! (And read the fic, because, again, willing to be persuaded.) One is Aveline/Isabela. Anders/Fenris is generally not my thing but I have come across Anders/Hawke/Fenris where there's kind a petty, sniping, one-upsmanship between Anders and Fenris and I'm like, okay, well, that's hot. 😳

25. common fandom complaint that you’re sick of hearing

"It's OOC for [Companion Character] to do/say this mean/petty/irrational thing!" a) I profoundly disagree that it is OOC for any Dragon Age companion to be petty. Petty assholes? In my Petty Assholes Games? It's more likely than you think! 🤣 b) Real human beings do, in fact, behave in irrational ways all the time especially when it comes to people and things that push their buttons, which BioWare companions tend to do to each other by design. "But it would be better if they were all nice to each other!" Maybe it would be more enjoyable for you. I'm different though. 🥲

I read this story long ago all in one sitting. It absolutely gripped me, tugged at my heartstrings, and wouldn't let me go. A Cadash/Solas/Varric Tethras rare pair, you have to give this a try.

Rating: E Pairing: Female Cadash/Solas, Female Cadash/Varric, Varric/Solas Chapters: 13/13 Length: 42,657 words Summary: Maria Cadash hung up the Inquisitor's mantle for the Viscountess' crown, but she's unable to stop her desperate and impossible struggle to stop Fen'Harel from destroying the world both her husband and daughter inhabit. The fact Varric, Maria, and Solas are all madly in love with each other just means she may have enough of an edge to win this game.

Chapter Summary:

Garrett and Rose trip deeper into this Maker-damned game they're playing.

Fic Summary:

Smashed together in a matchmaking scheme cooked up by their enterprising mothers, Garrett Hawke and Rose Trevelyan are forced to endure one another for a whole week over Satinalia at the Hawke Estate. Rose hears he’s a swashbuckling treasure hunter, as wild as he is handsome and as ill-bred as he is rich. Garrett suspects she’s a brat of an ingenue by the string of rejected marriage proposals behind her. Determined to prove to the other that they could not be less compatible, they quickly find their mothers’ plot might be working better than they thought.

A few short blocks later they come upon a narrow street laced with vibrant banners in scarlet and amber. Painted signs with provocative names. The Crowing Cock. The Blooming Rose. The Sheath and Dagger. Taverns, Rose suspects, since the street is all but deserted at this relatively early hour save for a few workers sweeping. Rose looks back into the barouche to see a little war playing out between Leandra and Garrett—  Garrett urging the driver to stop while Leandra furiously waves him on. The driver stops.

“And this is the—”

“Tavern row! Where people come to relax after a long day!” hurries Leandra.

Garrett’s eyes twinkle at his mother. “A kind of relaxation anyway. And I suppose they’re technically taverns.”

Rose’s brow lifts as she takes his meaning. Houses of ill-repute stacked one on top of the other and so near to the fine homes of Hightown. She cranes her neck and assesses them with a curiosity that pops and snaps inside her. The potted topiaries seem a bit out of place she admits, and all the signs seem finely carved and painted— though she detects the vestiges of mischief, the scrubbed off remnants of a G on the The Crowing Cock . By her mother’s twitchiness she must also have her suspicions but Leandra begs the driver to continue and the barouche lurches to life once more. 

“And this is the Guild Quarter! It’s where Dwarven merchants negotiate and tra— is that blood on the cobbles? I think it is! Looks like the city guard had their hands full last night.”

Indeed, here and there the crevices between the cobbles pool with drying blood. Alsatia draws a handkerchief over her lips. Leandra shoots her son a stony look. Rose makes a show of stroking her chin and then speaks. 

“Well, I think that shade of red really sets off the banners,” she says, daring a glance at the man across from her. She’s practically drunk on the little game between them, her pulse thumping in her wrists as she folds her hands across her lap.

Garrett bites down on a sudden grin and shakes his head.

“Really, Rose,” hisses Alsatia under her breath. Rose smiles knowingly to herself.

“It’s not as violent as everyone makes it seem ,” insists Leandra. “If you read the broadsheets I’m sure it must seem like Kirkwall will collapse under the weight of all the crime. But I assure you that is anything but the case. Viscount Dumar has a firm grasp on the reins of our dear city!”

Garrett slowly looks over at his mother with a cocked eyebrow.

“I won’t pretend that the reports of elevated criminal activity haven’t given me pause,” says Alsatia. “But surely the gates of Hightown will hold against the riff raff.”

The blood on the cobbles might suggest otherwise, but Rose bites her tongue.
