I blame those new gen wattpaders frfr. I know someone who came from WATTPAD like this who is I cannot read fanfics offline or the format is just not it like tfff??? Boyyy gonna get us in troublee😩
But really I blame booktok and tiktok wont take them down even when I reported them😩😔
Our fandom forbearers did NOT suffer through Anne Rice, strikethrough, and other bullshit for fucking ACOTAR and Harry Potter fans to fucking ruin it for all of us by selling fanfiction. I am not losing novel length yaoi epics because some of you don't know how to act in fannish spaces and yes I do blame the booktokification of fanfic but I also blame those of you that treat fandom like content to consume and not a community to engage with.

What did SJM meant by “Azriel is a freak”?
Ok, I’m going to put this out here: I read a lot of smut. Last year alone I read 103 books (wow, look at her reading ~porn~) probably 70% being romance. Blame BookTok or Kindle unlimited, but you name it, I probably have read it.
And , girl, I have read things. Knife play, gun play, blood play, predicament bondage, somnophilia, branding, you name it? I probably have read it.
So I was thinking what miss Sarah meant by freak. And I honestly think that nothing she ended up writing will match my scale of freak. No one is to blame here, I probably went too deep and got a bit too into the extremes by reading Shantel Tessier or whatever.
But then… imagine if SJM’s freak means that Azriel just likes to suck on big toes? Or armpit licking? All the fan girls here (me included) wishing for shadow play and we get a guy that is really into feet? That would be hilarious.

Ace of Shades
↳ Amanda Goody, ★★★★★
► read June 2024
«✧⁑✧»
This book was MAGNIFICENT, to put it bluntly. I found this book by pure coincidence after finding its sequel at the bookstore and putting it back because - surprise - they didn’t have the first book in stock. I was scrolling through my library app a day later and happened across this book in the “available now” section and got so excited!
Right out of the gate, this book gave me vibes similar to that of Six of Crows and The Night Circus. If you’ve read those books, you’re likely aware that those books are not similar at all, and yet this book reminded me of both of them. (I will note that if you’re looking for a “very similar to SoC book, this book is NOT that.)
Enne was a very interesting and fun character to follow. It was refreshing to have a main girl who was very feminine and innocent while also having a brain in her skull. Levi caught my interest immediately, particularly because of his scheming characteristics. I love a scheming man.
I found that this book had everything I needed to pull me out of a reading slump. The characters were interesting and well fleshed out, the plot was VERY intriguing, keeping your attention while also not being unpredictable to the point of disbelief, and the world was something new and exciting.
The world building *had* to be the best part of this entire book, and that’s saying something, because I enjoyed all of it! I blame my interest in part on my intense enjoyment of the concept of card games and gambling (see also: SoC and Caraval), but the magic system also had a lot to offer. The idea of inheriting magic through bloodline (similar to a family trade) is a concept I haven’t really seen in books, and I greatly appreciated it as someone writing a similar magic system!
Overall, I give this book a 10/10, and I give my library a 0/10 for not having the other two books and forcing my hand on finally getting kindle unlimited…

Humans Are Merry excerpt
“I never really had a Christmas,” Jessica finally said. It was rare that she would talk about herself, and her quiet admission had everyone whirring to face her, shock clear across their features.
The silence still blanketed the room when Adam and Steve entered, head bent together, talking about something between them. They paused at the entry, taking in the gaping that was happening as Jessica turned more and more defensive at the center of it.
“What did Jess do now?” Steve asked, coming around the bench beside Carrie and leaning forward, elbows planted. He looked ridiculous, face in hands, grinning at her. He was practically her annoying little brother at this rate - and Adam was not much better, truth be told.
“She’s never had a Christmas,” Kace answered, making Jessica huff.
Steve gasped dramatically, clutching his chest and rearing back as if he had been shot. “No Christmas? You’re telling me the year round grinch personality doesn’t stem from the little whos in whoville kicking her out of the Christmas festivities!”
Now, Jessica’s expression had turned downright murderous. “You want to go up to the roof and see who is getting kicked off the building?”
His eyes widened and he started to back away. Adam was there to stop him, patting his back. “You have got to stop poking the bear, man.”
Steve whipped around, looking so offended that Wren had to press her lips together to keep from busting out laughing. “You are blaming me?”
A smirk pulled at Adam’s lips. While he often joked around with Steve, he was generally a more serious kind of guy - the smirk was about as far as Wren saw him go usually.
“I’m not going to poke the bear,” he said quietly, almost like he didn’t want Jessica to hear. She only crossed her arms, cocking her hip as she stared at them.
“Okay - I’ve had enough of your theatrics.” Kai shoved the two guys to the side, sending them somewhat stumbling. Steve was dramatically insulted, of course, while Adam just shook his head. They were used to being pushed around most of the time. “Are we really going to ignore that Jessica needs to experience Christmas - and we have a reason to throw a party?” Her eyes gleamed at the word ‘party.’
“I like the way you think.” Kace walked closer, a grin on his lips. “We could show Jess a good time. Food, presents, the whole thing.”
Carrie seemed less enthused. “Where are we going to get presents here?”
“We could figure it out,” Wren supplied. The more they talked about the idea of actually having Christmas here, the more excited she grew. She really did miss the tradition and even if she only got boxes of rocks and they had to decorate a lamp instead of a tree, she would have a good time. “The Klyls have a lot of resources. I’m sure that we could collectively scrounge something up.”
Everyone was nodding now, looking more and more excited. Everyone but Jessica, whose arms were still crossed as her eyes scanned our faces.
On a sigh, Jessica’s body seemed to deflate. “I’m not getting out of this, am I?”
“Nope.” Kai came around the bench to grip her by the shoulders. “Let’s go collect the others. We have a party to plan!”

Alien Protector’s Mate: Fated Mates of the Winged Barbarians Book 1, by Melissa Emerald
Ratings:
GoodReads Rating: 3.87 ⭐️
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Purchasing:
On Kindle Unlimited?: Yes
Kindle E-book: $4.99
Paperback: $12.99
Review:
When Serena wakes up in an alien spaceship, she doesn't expect things to get even more difficult. But after she and a group of women are bought, and subsequently stranded and separated on another alien world, that's exactly what happens. Lost and alone in the jungles of this strange new world, she nearly meets her end. Until she is saved by Rynn, the High Spear of his tribe of Trixikka, a species of winged, tailed humanoid aliens. To further complicate matters, Rynn's heart-stars alight shortly after meeting Serena: she is his Goddesses given mate.
Will Serena be able to find the other missing women on this dangerous planet? Will she be able to come to terms with Rynn's devotion to her, and her own rising attraction to him? Or will she reject their Goddess-given bond for the chance to return to the world she was taken from?
While there are many stories that explore the meeting/ mating of humans and aliens, Alien Protector's Mate offers something I haven't seen in this type of story before: a mystery. Throughout the book Emerald drops little clues to try and answer the question, "What happened to the female Trixikka?" Serena is the first female Rynn has seen, the first female any Trixikka has seen in generations, their own females sequestered away in their tribe's temple, never stepping foot outside. And while I have my own theory about the actual goings on with the temple and its females, this is not a central part of the story. The book instead focuses on the feelings surrounding Serena and Rynn, the finding of the other missing women, and whether-or-not any other Trixikka males heart-stars will alight, signifying their mate-having status.
And I do not mind that the mystery of the Trixikka females takes a back seat to the main plot. Serena doesn't seem like the type to dig in to this sort of thing, and Rynn, having grown up with those facts, wouldn't think to question them. Additionally, this is the first book of the series, hopefully there are more clues and explanations in the book(s) to follow.
Another thing this book tackles well: virginity. Every single male in this book is two things: an alien, and a virgin.
Emerald is quick to point this out about Rynn and the Trixikka, but is even quicker to avoid the tropes that most writers bring to the topic. Emerald, and by extension, her characters, are nothing but respectful towards the virginity of the Trixikka. There are moments where the "innocence" of the characters is brought about for laughs, but the laughter is not cruel. The jokes are not at the expense of the characters inexperience, but instead about the misunderstanding of words familiar to us, the reader, and Serena. These scenes, by the way, are excellent. This book contains some of funniest sex writing I have ever read! No one is shamed or blamed, and everyone walks/flys away satisfied.
Alien Protector's Mate: Fated Mates of the Winged Barbarians is a fun, deceptively complicated read. If you are looking for a romance that is all at once respectful, otherworldly, and unabashedly sincere, this one is for you! If you do read it, feel free to leave your thoughts about where the backburner mystery will take us!

not to fearmonger or anything but tiktok is just the first in what all the apps will become, for the same reason tumblr had the porn ban - credit card companies afraid of evangelical anti-porn campaigns, which dictate how the apple/google app stores act, which dictates how every platform that has a mobile app acts. (these campaigns are based on similar “save the children” rhetoric that they use against gay and trans people, which is why sex trafficking panic is back on the rise online as well, and which ironically helps neither CSA victims nor trafficking victims, and has made real issues with the porn industry worse, but i digress).
the tiktok algorithm is hypervigilant to the point of it being ridiculous so that if you use certain words it gets autoflagged, even worse than it was before. its a very bad system, but tiktok is under a microscope from the US government bc of sinophobia (not for our privacy or children’s safety online like they say), so tiktok has an iron fist about it.
spotify is actively trying to make itself a creator platform, like youtube or tiktok, since it failed miserably at original content in podcasting and has ruined the music industry. they will run into the same problems as tiktok as they posit themselves as a platform, and are going to be walking the line of what is marked as explicit and what isn’t. this whole issue is what section 230 is about, if you wanna look that up, of if platforms are legally liable for what users post on them.
book blurbs frankly i’ve never seen that, but if i had to guess that may be for indie ebooks/kindle unlimited kind of stuff which are also on platforms experimenting with this line. you will see these platforms get more strict and people are adapting with the times, if in a klunky way.
twitter is actively breaking and while it is one of the last platforms that allows a wide range of explicit content, one never knows what works, what gets shadowbanned, and what will get your account wholesale deleted over there. it is also much easier to attract bots now that elon disassembled the entire site, so people censoring words, i don’t blame them.
this isn’t on the individual users, or even the platforms (altho i wish they’d use all their money and big corporate lawyers to bully apple, google, the credit card companies, and the evangelicals back, but they wont). this is a wider issue of the US christian nationalist surveillance state (i know thats a big scary term) that already affects the ENTIRE WORLD and this is just one small effect of it.
so yes you should be worried, but look at the bigger picture. if somebody says unalive, try not to be too harsh about it. especially younger people growing up online in this extremely shaky environment where these highly policed platforms are all they know, let’s be kind. and let’s teach people about the context.
hi im complaining about tiktok again and i know this has been said a million times but i despise how the self-censorship that got really popular on there is quickly becoming the norm. why is my podcast that i listen to that is by and for adults and swears regularly censoring the word "sex" in its episode descriptions on spotify, a platform where they dont even censor officially uploaded song titles for songs like "fuck the pain away." why are there book blurbs using "unalive" completely in earnest. why are people on twitter writing s3x. youtubers can at least handwave having to bleep terms like "heroin" bc that's specifically a youtube problem but why in an era where everyone is handwringing about how everything is Literally 1984 do people not seem to care about grown adults gleefully regressing into homestuck typing quirks and ugly babytalk

New Blog: Experiences and Memories
Happy December Readers.  I hope (for those who celebrate) you had a Great Thanksgiving.  It is a holiday season for many and all the commercials and advertisers are not going to let us forget.  I read an article recently about how the best gifts to give people are experiences.  Experiences build memories that last way beyond the event.  Possessions do not bring the same happiness as experiences.  We enjoy the anticipation of the experience, enjoy the experience and then enjoy the memories of the experience.  A point that I am going to keep in mind.
Meanwhile, I read another series off Kindle Unlimited this week.  Heaven’s Cove series by Liz Eeles was a wonderful series that I inhaled this week. The stories all take place in a wonderful place called Heaven’s Cove.  A small vacation town where people take care of each other.  A small town where there are mysteries to be solved and new people to be met.  Each novel can be read independently.  Also each story contains a parallel story from the past that directly deals with the modern story.  The novels are awesome.
Elise sent in a wonderful interview with Korina Moss and her newest cozy mystery Fondue or Die.  There is also a new review of another cozy mystery called Blame the Beignets that sounds so fun as well.  I would like to send a shout out to Elise.  She provides great interviews to out blog and I am quite grateful.
Thank you for reading and your positive comments.  It is appreciated.

A book question for dark hearts and dirty minds
I’m a “booktok” girl despite not actually having TikTok installed on my phone - a bookstagram girl if you must. I’m fairly comfortable with all types of books in this category and definitely not kink- shaming by any means.
I’m too curious for my own good which brings me to my post today.
I’m going to list the titles of two books I recently read and some context/commentary and then ask my question. Continue, if you dare 👹
Skeleton King by Charity B.
A dark, dark reimagining of A Nightmare Before Christmas. (I saw an ad for the movie and I will never see it the same way again)
Trigger warnings include sexual assault, necrophilia, cannibalism, child abduction, murder/death, torture, and possibly more I can’t remember or don’t have the words for.
I picked this up by chance and the trigger warnings could have been more detailed.
During and after reading this book, I felt like I needed to bathe in holy water and watch any inane children’s show to cleanse my mind and soul.
I blame this book for being the sole reason I didn’t flinch at a haunted house where there’s constant screaming and strangers touching you.
Mating with Mallows by Nora Noodle
Woman has threesome with life-size, sentient, human-shaped marshmallow bunnies.
No trigger warnings but the line “accepting his fluffernut into me,” had me feeling some feelings.
A short book I blame my curiosity and thesequelnobodywanted (Instagram) for me reading.
The Question
Finally, my question is for which book do I most need Jesus for? (I’m not Christian and I’m not actually seeking salvation or redemption. I’ve gotten to a place of comfortable acceptance with the madness imparted to me by these books. I’m just curious which one is more out-there for others)
Both books are on Kindle Unlimited if you’re curious like me 😈
I threw in a poll below just for shits and giggles in case anyone actually reads this post and has thoughts.
Closing Notes
I actually love thesequelnobodywanted. It’s my new favorite, guiltiest of pleasures.
Honorable mention (also from thesequelnobodywanted): Forked by Ruth Cardello - Woman fucks sentient fork. It did not make the list because the fork turns into a man for said fucking. (Also on Kindle Unlimited) (Followed up by Spooned and Knifed)

Montgavin Township will never be the same when one night changes the lives of six people.
The course of their lives and the trajectory of the town sets them on a collision course for disaster.
Charlie
It was supposed to be a regular day out.
Three couples celebrating the last days of summer.
When tragedy struck.
I thought I was going to marry her.
Instead, I was burying her.
I blamed the world for my pain.
I buried it all.
I became a man I didn’t even recognize.
Autumn
In a blink of an eye, everything changed.
My best friend was gone, and I was responsible for it.
I may not have been driving the truck, but I didn’t stop it.
Escaping the town was the only thing I could do to survive the guilt.
I thought I was strong enough to go back.
I was wrong.
One look from him and I knew I wasn’t welcome.
But this is my home, and I wanted to come back.
One night turned into more. But at the end of the day, I know he’ll never love me.
Besides, we all have shattered dreams.

Welcome to the Cornish Country Hospital
(4.5⭐️ feels like a medical drama TV show but also weirdly cozy 😅)
Description:
Danni Carter moves to Cornwall for a fresh start. But her plans are disrupted when Lucas Newman and Esther, her best friend, follow her. Torn between friendship and love, Danni faces an impossible dilemma and learns that sometimes letting go of dreams is necessary to hold onto the people she loves.
My Review:
Finished the book 😊. It's cute. It feels like Grey's Anatomy. Well, I never watched the show, so I don't know, but this book definitely feels like a medical TV show.
I hate the whole Danni and Lucas thing plus Danni is blaming herself a little too much, but aside from that I love the characters, except for Lucas, obviously.
Connie's plot line was really cute too.
But most of all, I'm just a little Charlie fangirl 🤭. He's so kind and the right amount of awkward to make it cute.
I want to read the next one, and I would do it right now, but unlike this one I can't read it for free with Amazon Prime and I still have way too many books to read, so for now I'll postpone reading the sequel.
I'd recommend it, especially if you happen to have Amazon Prime or Kindle Unlimited. Because then you can read it for free. It's cute, and I think it feels cozy even with all the drama, plus it feels like a TV show. 👍
My reactions while reading
If Danni could have stopped it from happening, she would have. If she’d had any say at all, she would rather have hated her best friend’s fiancé on sight than spent the last seven years falling more and more in love with him. But life didn’t play fair like that and, by the end of the year, the only man she’d ever loved would be walking down the aisle with the woman Danni thought of as her sister.
→ the tea 😱😅 I love that it starts like this. Like this i literally the first paragraph. I love it way too much already.

I really thought the last book in the Dominions series by Abigail Owen came out today. I reread the other two books the past week to prepare for the new book, and when I went to see if The Shadows Rule All was available on Kindle Unlimited, it says the book comes out in November. Why did I think it came out in July? I blame Goodreads. They must have the release date wrong because there is no way I would be that far off. I'm a little sad because I was excited to start that book today, but oh well, I'll have to find something else and then reread the series again in November to prepare for the actual release date.
