Evanstan round robin 2021?

Hey everyone, tis the season again! This is just an initial post putting some feelers out to see who (if anyone) is interested in writing a collaborative fic this year. Tagging the people who participated last year, I don't think everyone is even still on tumblr but anyone who is and would be interested, leave me a comment in the next few days so I can get a sense of whether we have enough people to do this again. Thanks!!

So! I’ve been meaning to make this post for a while but kept being busy, but let’s go ahead and throw it out there!

We’re been doing the annual Evanstan Round Robin fun for quite a few years now - it’s probably time to start thinking about this year’s version! As usual, everyone’s welcome - established and new Evanstan writers alike! It’s a fun low-stakes way to get to play in a whole big collaborative project that we create together!

I’m happy to run it again if people want, though I’m also happy to not - and I’ve done it a few times, so if someone else wants to, that’s awesome (and maybe even a good idea?) - just let me know! Really it’s just working out the schedule and creating the AO3 fic and adding everyone as co-creators! (And occasionally checking in with people if need be!)

Here’s the link to the 2017 rules post because for some reason that was the first one that came up when I was looking for Round Robin stuff on my blog. It’s basically been the same since then, and really, fundamentally, the big rule underlying all the other rules is: be respectful of your fellow contributors - like, don’t go ‘oh that previous chapter didn’t happen, it was all a dream, now here’s MY chapter,’ y’know?

Things specific for this year/questions for you all:

1) the roughly 500 word length (instead of 1k) seemed to work well last year, so maybe we’ll keep that? Obviously feel free to write more if you want and the words are flowing and the Writing Muses are singing, but no pressure - hopefully the short word count will take away some of the stress. :-)

2) there was super-vague talk of a plot about...Chris and Seb getting cast in a new film together and having to film a romance and/or sex scene...that’s an option, or we can think about other ideas! Plot thoughts?

3) thoughts on posting dates? I’m thinking we maybe start around the first week of November? Last year we went a little late - into Christmas, and after! - and it’d be nice to start a little sooner this year, but we will need a little bit of time for working out the schedule! We generally give everyone about a 3-4 day posting window, and we’ll ask if there are dates you absolutely wouldn’t be able to post, and if you’d rather be closer to the beginning, the end, or somewhere in the middle. :-)

Oh man, um here's a little scene from one of my countless LoZ wips. A little bit of Wild and Hyrule bonding!

Hyrule looks from the clothes, to Wild, to the distant walls of gerudo town, and the pieces fit into place. He considers, weighing the opportunity for a full day of exploration in a new place without well meaning but annoying supervision against dressing up in what he now knows are traditional Gerudo clothes. It says a lot about his inherent desire to explore that the decision isn’t hard at all.

Maybe twenty minutes later Wild escorts him through the western entrance of Gerudo town, just in time to see Legend be unceremoniously thrown out the main entrance into the sand by a guard. Behind his white veil, Hyrule smothers a laugh. A second later and the traveler's joy is quickly smothered by a moment of panic as a guard strides purposefully in their direction, a knowing glint in her eye.

"Uh," Hyrule steps back involuntarily as the tall woman approaches, but Wild places a reassuring hand on his shoulder before stepping forward.

"Little vai!" She says loudly, and though most of her face is obscured by a deep blue veil, Hyrule has the distinct impression that she is smiling widely.

Wild opens his arms wide in greeting before bringing his hands together in an unfamiliar sign language. Hyrule watches with interest, but he already struggles with understanding Wilds normal sign, and try as he might the traveler cannot make heads or tails of the brief exchange.

Whatever the scarred hero says makes the woman laugh good naturedly.

“I understand my friend. I hope you and your-” she pauses a moment, green eyes sparkling with mirth as they rove over Hyrules form “- your sister find everything hospitable.”

With that, the guard leaves and Hyrule is left blinking after her retreating form.

"Did she just-?"

"Yeah," Wild confirms, "That's Barta. I saved her life a few times, in return she keeps the secret."

The scarred hero takes the traveler by the arm, guiding Hyrule to a small alcove near a set of covered public cooking pots.

"How many people know?"

“Five. No- wait...six?” Wild offers after a moment of thought.

The lack of certainty is not reassuring, and Hyrule vividly remembers the way Legend had been ejected from the premises.

“That's not a question I want answered with another question.”
