In our latest question-and-answer feature with Chelsea Women players, we spoke to midfielder Jessie Fleming who gave us an insight into her life off the pitch…
The Canadian international shares her favourite thing about London, what she likes to do in her spare time and what is on her bucket list!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Riding my road bike - if the weather holds out! - reading, or photography. I recently started using a film camera but haven't gotten around to processing the film so I am not sure how I am doing!
What do you like the most about London?
Oooooh tough question! I love all of the history there is to discover in the city – the age of some of the buildings is mindblowing! I also love the diversity big cities bring, which usually means lots and lots of good food.
Who was your favourite footballer growing up and why?
When I was really young, I loved Marta. I remember my older brother made me a collage with pictures of Marta and Pele for my birthday one year.
However, watching Iniesta and Barcelona under Pep truly made me fall in love with the game. They played the most beautiful, well thought-out football I think we will ever see – tiki taka all over the pitch and all of the players were incredibly unselfish.
Do you have any pets?
Yes! Two fluffy, friendly golden retrievers named Ruxpin and Moose. They usually sleep in my bed at home when I am away.
If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Hmmm... Maybe Mexican food from California. Tacos, tortilla chips and guacamole or salsa, and sweet corn tamales. At school, my friends and I ate Mexican food almost every Tuesday (for "Taco Tuesday") and it was always my favourite tradition.
What series are you watching at the moment?
I just finished watching The Crown and I am a few episodes into All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur.
What is your biggest achievement?
Winning a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016. I think being a part of the Canadian Olympic Team, meeting and cheering on Canadian athletes from other sports, and representing my country was an incredible experience.
I would like to think most Canadians are extremely proud of where they come from (I know I am) and representing that pride as a Canadian athlete is a great honour.
What are you studying at the moment?
I am majoring in Materials Engineering with a minor in Environmental Science.
What can’t you live without?
Probably coffee. Waking up in the morning, not in any rush and drinking my coffee is the best start to my day. Even better if it is cold outside and I have my warm coffee. I also love the ritual of sitting down with someone to enjoy a coffee and talk.
Sweet or savoury?
I definitely have a bit of a sweet tooth – how can you not love a good doughnut or cinnamon roll?
If you could meet a famous person for a coffee, who would it be?
Probably Barack Obama. He is such a thoughtful, well-spoken person. I think I could listen to him tell stories for hours.
Are you good at any other sports?
Ice-hockey and long distance running. My dad used to build an ice rink in our backyard every year when I was growing up – we would have our friends over and pretend to be the Leafs or Chicago Blackhawks.
Who is your favourite music artist?
I like a lot of different music. Right now I would have to say my favourite artists are Dermot Kennedy or Shakey Graves but I also love Florida Georgia Line and other country artists.
Do you have any superstitions?
Not really. Do you have any fears?
I am not the best with heights. I think I get it from my mom. Don't get me wrong, I love the mountains, I just have no idea how people sit on the edge of a cliff for a picture or rock climb.
Tell us one thing that is on your bucket list…
My parents always said they wanted to rent an RV and take a road trip to the east coast of Canada, camping and hiking at different spots along the way. Now that I have been away from home and my family for so many years, I think I want to explore more of the country I am from with my family.

‘There’s Nothing I Wouldn’t Do at This Point’

Grocery stores have announced hiring sprees in response to increased demand due to concerns around novel coronavirus. | Mario Tama/Getty Images
Grocery, delivery, and other businesses in-demand during the coronavirus pandemic are on hiring sprees, but for laid-off restaurant workers, making the switch isn’t so simple
Angel de la Torre-Miranda has thrived on a career in restaurants. For almost 13 years, he has worked the line as a cook and a sous chef across the San Diego metro area, most recently preparing cheeseburgers and huli huli chicken at the Boardwalk Beach Club in Coronado. He loved the work, and it put food on the table for himself, his girlfriend, and his almost-two-year-old child.
But with the spread of COVID-19, the Boardwalk Beach Club temporarily shuttered in mid-March, and de la Torre-Miranda lost his job. To support his family, this past week he found himself on the other side of the service industry: driving around town for Postmates, delivering bags full of Carl’s Jr. and 7-Eleven orders. “If I don’t work, we don’t eat,” de la Torre-Miranda says, noting that he earned $40 in two-and-a-half hours. “It’s not rent money but it’s the most money I’ve seen in the last two weeks.”
In the middle of what some economists have predicted to be the eve of a recession, restaurants across the country have closed or limited their dining rooms, upsetting the livelihoods of possibly millions of workers. A number of employees are hobbling along with schedule cuts or reduced salaries, but thousands of others are without jobs.
Unemployment benefits and restaurant relief funds will help keep eligible workers financially afloat in the near future, as will the recently-passed $2 trillion stimulus package, which will give unemployed restaurant workers an additional cushion of $600 a week plus one-time stimulus checks of up to $1,200. But with fallout from the coronavirus almost certainly enduring for several months, and retailers hiring en masse to keep up with the spike in customers’ panic-stricken purchases, hospitality veterans are looking beyond bars and restaurants for their next paychecks.
“There’s nothing I wouldn’t do at this point,” says de la Torre-Miranda, who’s applied for positions at grocery stores and medical equipment facilities. “It’s incredibly stressful, because I know what I’m capable of doing in the kitchen.”
The shockwaves from COVID-19 have rippled across the restaurant industry. At least 26 states have banned or restricted dine-in service, and on March 26, the total number of hourly employees going into work at local food-and-drink businesses had dropped by 64 percent compared to the median attendance on the same weekdays in January, according to data from scheduling and time tracking tool Homebase.
But for retail and delivery, business is soaring: shelves where milk, eggs, and seltzer are regularly stocked feature gaping holes; lines at grocery stores sometimes stretch out the door, with customers attempting to maintain the recommended six feet of separation; Instacart app downloads grew by more than 200 percent between February 14 and March 15.
To meet the sudden influx of customer demand, a slew of grocery stores and retailers like Trader Joe’s and Amazon have announced hiring sprees, with some companies making direct efforts to aid restaurant workers. CVS Health, which plans to add over 50,000 workers, is working with the hospitality group Estefan Enterprises in Florida to match up to 300 of its employees with temporary jobs until its hotels and restaurants reopen, a deal facilitated by personal connections between the organizations. Kroger, which has hired more than 23,500 new employees and plans to bring on an additional 20,000, has partnered with the Thunderdome Restaurant Group and Frisch’s to place restaurant workers with jobs in its plants, warehouses, and grocery stores.
Kimberly Yorio, a spokesperson for the grocery chains Kings Food Markets and Balducci’s, says that with daily demand surging exponentially, the companies began a hiring campaign to onboard over 100 full-time and part-time workers, some temporary, at their locations throughout the Northeast. The jobs range from retrieving grocery carts and working the cash registers, to slicing cold cuts at the deli counter. “The largest number of hospitality workers are being displaced right now,” Yorio says. “The grocery industry, on the flip side, has an urgent need to employ people quickly who have skills that are absolutely relevant, and the knowledge of food for all hospitality works is super helpful.”
Echoing other retailers who are recruiting short-term help for the pandemic, job postings on Kings Food Markets and Balducci’s suggest the duration of temporary COVID-19 hires could last a couple of months. However, Yorio notes the possibility for extensions and long-term employment opportunities based on the needs of customers and workers.
But despite the hiring sprees, work isn’t guaranteed for new jobseekers. These days, recently laid-off restaurant workers looking to get a toe in as a grocery bagger or in a warehouse position are potentially competing with millions of newly unemployed. Mariah R.*, a former server-bartender at a Stoney River steakhouse and grill location in Atlanta, Georgia says that after being let go from the restaurant due to the pandemic and applying for several retail positions, she has already been rejected for four different positions at Target. De la Torre-Miranda, who has prior warehouse experience, says that after hearing about companies’ hirings waves, he applied to Walmart, Costco, Target, and Amazon, along with several grocery stores, with few leads as of last week.
But some restaurant workers don’t consider switching to retail a viable option at all. Tim Oliver, who is currently working around eight hours a week as a cook at the taco bar Garage in Binghamton, New York — down from the usual 45 — is holding out for as long as he can before applying for a position at Walmart. His skills and personality, embraced in restaurants, he says, might not be so welcomed in retail. “Everybody’s drawn there for one reason — to make some food for people and they’re happy about it,” he says about working in a kitchen. “To go from the high-pressure job of cooking to stocking shelves, I’m gonna go nuts.”
Jobs like delivering meals or ringing up groceries also put workers on the front lines of the pandemic, sometimes with little protection. George F. *, a career server who lives in Honolulu’s Waikiki neighborhood, says that after being hired for an overnight stocker position at a grocery store, he learned on his first day that several of his new coworkers weren’t sharing his precautionary health measures like wearing a handkerchief or mask and gloves, and that the company wasn’t spraying down the store with cleaning products.
“Offices and break rooms are extremely small with multiple people close together,” he says of his new workplace, adding that it’s a problem “for people to not be using gloves or face masks in those situations.” Still, the former server considers himself lucky to have the job: He now has unionized healthcare and secured employment in an industry vital during the pandemic.
With the sudden jump in the labor market supply, some hospitality workers have been exiting the food and retail worlds altogether, at least temporarily. For over two years, Shawn Ryder poured beer at the beloved local hockey bar Lord Stanley’s and the Annex in DeKalb, Illinois. But when Governor J.B. Pritzker mandated that bars and restaurants across the state shutter to dampen the spread of COVID-19, a Lord Stanley’s regular threw Ryder a lifeline and messaged him about a job opportunity at the plant where he worked.
Instead of chatting with regulars about Blackhawks scores, this past week, the former bartender was learning how to operate heavy machinery to drill holes into plastics and metals as a computer numerically controlled operator. “It was kind of like when I left Ohio and went to California,” Ryder says. “The culture shock — it’s a totally different type of work, a different pace, different way of thinking.”
The total take home pay is roughly $200 less at Ryder’s new job (an amount he used to make in tips), and he hasn’t fully adjusted to the early-hour schedule. But he considers himself lucky to be gainfully employed, unlike many of his former colleagues. “There are definitely worse jobs out there,” he says.
De la Torre-Miranda, the San Diego chef, is hoping for similar fortunes. With another child on the way, the chef estimates that he’s applied to over 50 jobs online, often without reading the job descriptions. Two retail or warehouse jobs plus Postmates delivery work would be ideal for sustaining his family financially, he says.
Like other former restaurant workers, de la Torre-Miranda knows the pandemic will eventually subside, and people will leave their homes to eat out again. But whether he will be back in the kitchen to fire up their entrees when that day comes is a question he doesn’t have an answer to. “I love working with food,” de la Torre-Miranda says. “But it’s so unstable as it is, so when we have something like this happening, and this is the fallout — I don’t know.”

City's opener was in Salzburg, manchester city uefa fixtures resulted in a 2—0 win. City lost 2—0 in Kyiv, and had to play most of the second leg with ten men after Mario Balotelli was sent off. A 1—0 win was insufficient to overcome the deficit, as City lost 2—1 on aggregate.
The club's league finish granted direct entry into the group stages without qualification. Their group stage opponents were Bayern MunichVillarreal and Napoli.
City's first group match was at home to Napoli. The Italians took the lead in the second half following a counter-attacking move, but five minutes later Aleksandar Kolarov scored from a free-kick to equalise, and the match finished 1—1.
As a third placed team the club then entered the Manchester city uefa fixtures League in the round of 32, where they faced Europa League holders Porto. Manchester City won both legs. City lost the first leg 0—1 in Lisbon and were trailing 0—2 early in the home game. The team mounted a great comeback, scoring three goals, but it was not enough, as they were eliminated on away goals rule. Manchester City qualified for the —13 UEFA Champions League as league champions and hope were high for the team to perform successfully.
Cityzens failed to win even a single watch, losing three and drawing three and failed to progress even to the Europa League knock-out manchester city uefa fixtures, finishing last in their group. However, Manchester city uefa fixtures performance in the Round of 16 was a disappointment, as they dropped both games to Barcelona with an aggregate score of 1—4.
The team's next Champions League campaign was similar to the previous one, as Manchester City were manchester city uefa fixtures drawn with Bayern Munich and CSKA Moscow at the group stage and after qualifying for the playoffs as the second best team, Cityzens once again had to face Barcelona. The final result saw a little improvement, as Man City look here lost both games but this time with an aggregate score of 1—3.
Real Madrid went on to win the tournament. Cityzens eliminated Dynamo Kyiv and Paris on their way to the semifinals. In the first season under the reign Pep Guardiolahopes were high for Manchester City as they progressed to the knockout phase after finishing second in the group that featured Guardiola's former team, Barcelona. In the Round of 16 City were drawn against Monaco. The Blues were trailing 1—2 and 2—3 in their home match before scoring three unanswered goals and winning 5—3.
The team confidently won five games in the group stage and qualified for the knockout stage, where they defeated Basel 5—2 on aggregate. Manchester city uefa fixtures Cityzens were drawn with fellow Premier League side Liverpool in the quarter-finals. The outcome of those games was an utter devastation as Manchester City manchester city uefa fixtures thrashed read manchester city uefa fixtures aggregate and eliminated amid the controversy with refereeing mistakes favourable to Liverpool.
The Premier League title where City achieved points was somewhat a consolation for this anticlimactic European campaign. Manchester City were one of the favourites prior to their —19 Champions league campaign. The team again won their group with 13 points, then defeated Schalke 04 in the Round of 16, winning their home game with a record 7—0 scoreline. Similarly to the previous season, Manchester City were drawn against an English club in the quarter-finals, this time Tottenham Hotspur.
In the home leg, Sterling scored early for the hosts, but then City quickly conceded two goals and now needed to score three. They did exactly that, leading 4—2 twenty minutes before the end of the game, but Fernando Llorente manchester city uefa fixtures wrongly awarded handball meant that City were again required to score. However, the goal was disallowed after a VAR replay, and the Blues were eliminated in manchester city uefa fixtures heartbreaking fashion.
Manchester City swept all their domestic tournaments that season, but were still unable to add European success. Acknowledging that City would be judged by their Champions League performance after all, [78] Pep Guardiola stated that the new season's main objective would be to win the European title.
Manchester city uefa fixtures Cityzens progressed to the knockout phase and faced old foes Real Madrid there. City won the away game 2—1, but manchester city uefa fixtures remainder of the tournament was indefinitely postponed due to manchester city uefa fixtures COVID—19 pandemic.
The home match against Manchester city uefa fixtures was scheduled for 7 August. Thanks to goals from Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesusthe Citizens once again defeated Madrid 2—1, achieving a 4—2 victory on aggregate and advancing to the quarter-finals. Man City faced Lyon on 15 August, losing 3—1 and exiting the Champions league at the quarter-final stage for the third year in a row. The —21 campaign saw City top its group with a club record of 16 points, twice defeating Marseille and Olympiacosand collecting four points against Porto.
In addition to the major UEFA competitions, Manchester City have also played a number of first team fixtures in other, more minor multi-national competitions. The competition started the previous year, as a way of enabling League Cup winners Swindon Town to play European opposition. City fielded a weakened side for the second leg of their tie against Airdrieonians.
The tournament saw Denis Law play his final matches as a professional. The withdrawal of Irish teams saw the competition renamed the Manchester city uefa fixtures Cup the following year. Again, City failed to progress beyond the group stage. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Manchester City F. August Retrieved 4 June Manchester — A Football History. Halifax: James Ward. Grocery stores have announced hiring sprees in response to increased demand due to concerns around novel coronavirus. | Mario Tama/Getty Images Grocery, delivery, and other businesses in-demand during the coronavirus pandemic are on hiring sprees, but for laid-off restaurant workers, making the switch isn’t so simple Angel de la Torre-Miranda has thrived on a career in restaurants. “It’s not rent money but it’s the most money I’ve seen in the last two weeks.” In the middle of what some economists have predicted to be the eve of a recession, restaurants across the country have closed or limited their dining rooms, upsetting the livelihoods of possibly millions of workers. “It’s incredibly stressful, because I know what I’m capable of doing in the kitchen.” The shockwaves from COVID-19 have rippled across the restaurant industry. “The grocery industry, on the flip side, has an urgent need to employ people quickly who have skills that are absolutely relevant, and the knowledge of food for all hospitality works is super helpful.” Echoing other retailers who are recruiting short-term help for the pandemic, job postings on Kings Food Markets and Balducci’s suggest the duration of temporary COVID-19 hires could last a couple of months. “To go from the high-pressure job of cooking to stocking shelves, I’m gonna go nuts.” Jobs like delivering meals or ringing up groceries also put workers on the front lines of the pandemic, sometimes with little protection. “The culture shock — it’s a totally different type of work, a different pace, different way of thinking.” The total take home pay is roughly $200 less at Ryder’s new job (an amount he used to make in tips), and he hasn’t fully adjusted to the early-hour schedule. “But it’s so unstable as it is, so when we have something like this happening, and this is the fallout — I don’t know.” *To safeguard their livelihoods, Eater guaranteed anonymity to any source who requested it. Eulogy: Remembering the 2016-17 Ottawa Senators
Tumblr media
(Ed. Note: As the Stanley Cup Playoffs continue, we’re bound to lose some friends along the journey. We’ve asked for these losers, gone but not forgotten, to be eulogized by the people who knew the teams best: The bloggers and fans who hated them the most. Here is Toronto Maple Leafs fan and hockey writer Joe Pack, fondly recalling the 2016-17 Ottawa Senators. Also he died before completing this apparently. Just go with it.)
(Again, this was not written by us. Also: This is a roast and you will be offended by it, so don’t take it so seriously.)
By Joe Pack
Joe Pack, known for his winning performances on Marek vs. Wyshynski’s “Game Show Friday” and his three-figure following on Twitter, died on Thursday. He was [an older millennial].
The Toronto native had taken his wife and son to the Puck Daddy Hotel in New York where he was to write the eulogy for the Ottawa Senators. (The Underbooked Hotel in Ottawa is closed during the hockey season.) The secluded hotel had housed dozens of eulogy-writing bloggers over the years and the building was said to have been erected on the Failed Playoff Teams’ burial ground. Its manager, Greg Wyshynski, warned Pack of the potential for claustrophobic reactions to the building and that the last Senators eulogizer had “run amok” before making CFL fans out of his family of four. Pack told him he didn’t believe in scary stories and that two weeks of isolation and Senators hockey was exactly what he was looking for.
Only it turned out to be two months.
“Our people in Toronto recommended Joe very highly,” said Wyshynski. “And for once, I agreed with them.”
Joe’s son, “Fanny” (a passionate fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs since 2016-17) has a special talent, one that allows him to see both the past and future with unique clarity. Fanny met with the hotel’s head cook, Sean Leahy, while his parents toured the facility and the two discussed the hotel over a bag of trail mix.
“Mr. Leahy, are you afraid of Room 131?” asked the boy.
“Nah, I ain’t afraid of Room 131,” Leahy answered. “But stay out! You hear me? Stay. Out. Also, please keep the temperature in this hotel freezing cold at all times.”
Some of Joe’s Senators eulogy, never completed, is excerpted here.
Tumblr media
My family and I depend on the small sums of money provided by my freelance work but this is my career’s greatest test of will, watching this pajama-clad hockey team.

… while its post-game celebrations are what a Vancouver riot would look like if the Stepford Wives were in town.

— Brian Platt (@btaplatt) May 10, 2017
But it’s their play on the ice that is murdering hockey.
The ghost of the New Jersey Devils lives on in the spirit of the Senators who refuse at times to even direct the puck at the other team’s goal. The real hypocrisy is that they poke fun at opponents who do the same.
The Bruins failed to record a shot on goal in the second period.
Can someone in the advanced stat community tell us if that is good?
— Ottawa Senators (@Senators) April 13, 2017
And for all the Sens skaters who insist on blocking every shot attempt on goal, they are instantly forgettable outside of the elegant Erik Karlsson and the guy whose nickname is “Meth.”
It’s beginning to feel as though the next overtime could go on forever, and ever, and ever…
***
In order to inject some life into his stay at the hotel, Joe took to throwing a ball against a wall or staring out a window. He would often kill time by counting the hotel’s bathrooms which he was glad to find outnumbered those at Edmonton’s Rogers Place Arena.
His son, meanwhile, began acting out, repeatedly writing the word MODEROB on walls across from mirrors — behaviour that Joe felt he had to correct.
Tumblr media
It’s apparent Erik Karlsson is the only reason any hockey fan would tune into this team’s games. And while his club is easily capable of putting this government town down for its second nap of each day, Karlsson — in the words of “Morpheus” from The Matrix — has the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he’s expecting to wake up. One can only hope to soon watch the slick Swede in a uniform other than that of a Canadian Tire employee. At least they aren’t wearing the ones with the big “zero” crest.
But not even Karlsson can make this Senators-Rangers series watchable. I’ve switched over to Penguins-Capitals for the night.
[PIT-WSH series] Did Matt Niskanen do murder? Are the Caps evil? Is Alex Ovechkin the devil himself? [OTT-NYR series] Tanner Glass will play
— Dumb Bozo (@davelozo) May 2, 2017
***
During one writing session, Pack recalled being woken up by his wife, Wendy Clark, after a terrible nightmare. He recalled buying a flexpack of Senators tickets for the family and driving for hours along the endless mountainside to the far reaches of Kanata, Ontario where they watched the Sens keep the puck along the boards to the delight of dozens. Pack told his wife he’d lashed out at them and chopped the tickets into “tiny, little pieces” with an axe.
As Pack woke from his nightmare, Fanny entered Room 131 only to be found hours later by his mother who discovered he’d been nearly choked to death by a mysterious “pressure” he’d felt which he could only describe as “defensive” and “net-front.” The so-called pressure took the form of Ottawa coach Guy Boucher, whom Fanny thought looked like Mads Mikkelson’s “Le Chiffre” from Casino Royale.
After putting Fanny to bed, Wendy went back to Joe’s room to peak at what he’d been writing.
Tumblr media
All neutral zone play makes Pack a dull boy
All newtral zone play makes Pack a dull boy
All neutral zone play makes Pack a dull bot
All neutral zone play makes Jack a dull boy
All neutral zone play makes Pack a null boy
Pack appeared from behind her and asked what she thought of it. She was instead concerned for Fanny’s health and wished to leave. The boy had taken to napping for four hours at a time, roughly the length of a Sens game.
But Joe snapped at her, saying the Senators were finally exciting to watch and that giving up on the assignment would surely mean moving back to his mother’s basement.
Wendy clocked him with a Martin Brodeur goal stick she found in Wyshynski’s office and stuffed Pack in an room with his laptop.
The following is an excerpt from his final offering:
Tumblr media
The daily emails I receive in my spam folder from The Underbooked Hotel should be enough to confirm the disinterest in this hockey club. But the captain’s response to the thousands of empty seats says it all:
Erik Karlsson, asked if he noticed all the empty seats at Canadian Tire Centre last night: "Yes."
— Chris Johnston (@reporterchris) April 28, 2017
Particularly charming has been the team’s resolve to remain relevant and professional. In the following video clip, goaltender Craig Anderson mocks Marc-Andre Fleury’s spill at the outset of the 2008 Stanley Cup Final. Only Anderson barely has an audience for his prank.
Look at and listen to the cavernous Canadian Tire Centre as the Senators take to the ice, not for practice as the tweet erroneously suggests, but for Game 1 against the Penguins:
Meanwhile at Senators practice today: "Please tell me you got that" ???? pic.twitter.com/Ueh8VwCdK8
— Robert Söderlind (@HockeyWebCast) May 12, 2017
***
As Wendy retrieved Fanny to take him to a hospital, she finally noticed in a mirror what the boy had warned of with his writing on the walls:
BOREDOM
She grabbed her listless son, but as she turned for the entrance, Joe appeared down the hallway and began limping after them. Just then, Sean Leahy — who had been called by Fanny to help fix the thermostat — came out of his office and asked Joe how his eulogy was going. Joe began reading but Leahy reportedly keeled over, only awaking from his coma days later.
Wendy ran to her car but a tire had been slashed with a hockey skate, the name M. COOKE stitched into the boot. She told Fanny to hide as she called for assistance and the boy ran toward the hotel’s hedge maze (which doesn’t show up on Google Maps, even though it’s clearly on the property).
Joe followed but either his way was blocked, he was tripped up by hockey sticks and shin pads lying about, or televisions playing reruns of Senators games were placed in his path.
Joe was found Wednesday morning, slumped forward, head still in hands.
Bored to death.
Among the photos on the wall of the Puck Daddy Hotel remains a memorial to Joe Pack which quotes him as saying:
“In the words of Hologram Bill Masterton: ‘Oh, you wrote an Ottawa Senators eulogy? Well, I DIED!”
[That last game was pretty sweet though.]

Tool description These are generally chosen for the following qualities: compact and light (suitable to wear in a belt holster in some applications) constructed as a single piece with various moving parts, so one component is not lost while using another (except for the New Wave, Surge, and all Charge models, Skeletool and Skeletool CX which all have two-sided removable screwdriver bits) when collapsed for storage, relatively smooth and blunt compared to the equivalent discrete tools, thus reducing frequency of damage to items stored along with it. Most models of the Leatherman brand have a built-in safety mechanism that locks selected tools in the open position when fully unfolded. Different models have various methods for unlocking the tools. In older models that use "clumping" locks, one of the other tools has to be partly unfolded to release the first one; if all the tools of this model were to be fully unfolded simultaneously, then an external tool might be needed to unlock them. In 1998, Leatherman used its first button lock on the Crunch tool, allowing each tool to be refolded. In 1999, Leatherman began using liner locks on the blades of the Wave tool, which allowed it to be accessed without unfolding the entire tool. The method in which the pliers are exposed is similar to that of the butterfly knife. In 2005, Leatherman added knives to their product line including straight and serrated-edged blades. Leatherman introduced its first pruner gardening tool in 2006. Company history The Leatherman Tool Group was founded by Timothy S. Leatherman, a 1970 graduate of Oregon State University who majored in mechanical engineering. According to a December 10, 1981 column written by Bill Monroe in The Oregonian, Leatherman came up with the idea of a "Boy Scout knife with pliers" during a 1975 driving tour of Europe with his wife, when he was unable to use his pocket knife to fix his repeatedly malfunctioning car. Leatherman spent several years perfecting his prototype, getting his first patent in 1980. He also spent those early years refining his sales model. He originally expected that industrial companies with large staffs of technicians would be his target customer, but attempts to sell the tool to companies such as AT&T failed. It was only after following the advice of a contact at the Early Winters catalog company to simplify his product that sales began to grow. It was mail-order catalog companies such as Early Winters and Cabela's that gave Leatherman his first significant sales. Tim Leatherman formed Leatherman Tool Group to sell his creation in 1983. In 1996 the company expanded its manufacturing facility to 90,000 square feet (8,400 m2) from 30,000 square feet (2,800 m2) in 1994. Leatherman Tool Group lost a lawsuit for deceptive advertising that was overturned in 2006, but were still required to advertise in California that the company had violated laws in that state. In 2007 the company opened its first retail store, located at its manufacturing facility in Portland, Oregon. Tim Leatherman was inducted into the Blade Magazine Cutlery Hall of Fame at the 2007 Blade Show in Atlanta, Georgia in recognition for the impact that his design has made upon the cutlery industry.
