my struggle is: explaining my hair texture, why it coils into its thick haven of protection. no man. you can’t touch it, this is mine. my struggle is: the darkness of my skin. it carries the traits of masculinity in the eyes of my own men. how, fragility and access to emotion cannot be of access to me. i am what they call a strong darkskin blk womxn. my struggle is: my blackness. it cannot be associated with mental illness, for being black and depressed is expensive. being black, African and depressed is satanic. my struggle is: my vagina. it lays between the thickness of my thighs. below the flatness of my belly. aligned with, the pinch of my waist and opposite the robustness of my rear end. i am objectified beyond the intellect of my mind. men become predators. women disapprove. my struggle is a metaphysical dilemma that is encrypted in Maya Angelou’s phenomenal womxn, the raping of a Oprah’a childhood, the alcoholism of my grandma, the absence of a father. my struggle is not documented in the history books. my struggle goes to bed with me every night.
