just got to ep 93 of riptide on my relisten (when finn wakes up) and i can’t stop thinking about how during the feywild arc, when celestine was assessing the magic involved in apple’s transmutation spell, necromancy was one of the types listed.

when gillion finally gets through to the unconscious finn using the bracelets, finn keeps talking about his spell, asking if it worked, if it protected his crew. it’s clear that the spell finn had been casting (over the course of 100 years supposedly) was incredibly important, and likely the reason he ended up trapped as a bird. clearly finn had some knowledge of what may happen, considering he started preparing so far in advance. it might be part of the reason he left the undersea in the first place. but after waking up, with the spell’s resulting mental deterioration, he can’t provide the answers he may have once had.

(something about the spell feels very reminiscent of a deal. finn trading his knowledge and intellect, whether he did so intentionally. something he dedicated his life to. him being able to protect his crew, to a certain extent. and when he finally gets to see that his spell worked (?) he might not fully remember it’s significance. might not remember what he wanted. why he made that choice.)

during my relisten, i’ve really taken note that whenever any of the black rose crew are talking about the hole in the sea and what they remember, there’s some pretty big gaps in memory. they all recall falling unconscious at one point or another, and waking up somewhere else. drey struggles to remember a lot after being in the block so long. finn’s memory is waning, either from age or the effects of his spell. and initially, when chip talks about that day, he’s confident in what he remembers, and doesn’t seem to dwell much about losing consciousness and how he eventually ended up at skullslice port.

but when finn wakes up, and chip gets the third part of the map tattooed on his back, everyone’s confused. why wouldn’t it be on arlin, like they’d thought? why now?

drey says something along the lines of “why chip, though? he wasn’t even down there with us. you weren’t there, right chip?”

and chip doesn’t say anything.

i think the reason there’s so many gaps in memory is that maybe none of the black rose pirates made it out. maybe there’s a reason necromancy was involved in finn’s spell.

Something something about Chip being so heavily influenced by the Black Rose, as we know, but when it comes to his own oath, his own crew, it’s Chip, Jay, and Gillion at the core, yes there is the similarity, but it’s the three of them

Episode 113 got me sobbing dude

like chips still fucking dead, and he’s just found out that price might be the son of captain rose, and then he’s listened to this whole long final message from captain rose that basically tells him that he should stop doing what he’s been doing his whole life. He thought he should find the black rose members and rebuild their legacy but now he’s being told not to by captain rose himself? And this message was left for HIM specifically. Rose cared about him. And Rose had faith that he would try and find them. And it must sting so bad to remember that all the people who cared for you are supposedly gone. And on top of all that, seeing the tentacles right after could not have been good for him in anyway. Give my boy a break 😭

Riptide spoilers for black sea arc!! nothing just thinking about Burn from Hamilton but with Captain Rose's wife because "you and your word obsessed with your legacy" , she probably thinks he abandoned her to continue as a pirate as opposed to knowing he was apart of the hole in the sea. "You've married an Icarus he has flown too close to the sun" if she did know he was in the black sea when it happened. He just had to have that last hurrah as the famous captain of the Black Rose, leaving her alone with child. This is all even if she's still alive, which it's been a hot second since I've watched the most recent episodes so I cannot remember if she is alive or not.

Ok! Been a bit cuz I binged the whole black rose series after you guys said you'd never even HEARD of it??? Hello?? It's peak cinema

Basically it's this movie series right plus some spin offs I guess following this pirate crew THE BLACK ROSE PIRATES the coolest most badass people around and their adventures, gets pretty dark and the action is SICK

It's got kinda a cult following, especially because of it's abrupt end see the last movie "The Final Journey" ended on a cliffhanger, with the movies original copy damaged or according to some conspiracy theories- purposefully tampered with!

So the last hour of the movie was lost basically meaning they HAD to end on the cliff hanger and just hope they could sort it out in the next movie or a TV series was the plan if I remember right?

But because of the abrupt end, with the whole main cast seemingly dead and swallowed by some sea monster and the captain DEAD, it tanked- believe it or not the studio was kinda betting on this movie to stay afloat and after the shit reviews and backlash Black Rose Pictures was forced to close

And that guy's is where me, your boy, the one the only Chip comes in
