Black Hill Fragment - Scars

(To be included in one of the various one shots I've got taking up space in the back of my head)

Tugging her shirt back over her healing gunshot wound, Maria looks over at Nat as she gingerly lays down next to her.

"Huh. We match." Natasha blinks at her and then notices where her hand is. Taking Maria's hand in hers, she presses a kiss to the back of it before making sure Maria is tucked in and has water within reach.

"Matching abdominal gunshot wounds. Next time let's go for matching necklaces or a tattoo instead. Something that doesn't nearly kill us before leaving a memento." Maria nuzzles into her shoulder as she gets comfortable. Nat smiles softly. Maria being a cuddler is something she'll be taking to her grave. Then she frowns. Even in her head, it's too soon for that phrase.

Maria craves human touch just like everyone else, especially when she's injured or sick, but always needing to be on top of a situation, even a developing one, means she doesn't get it often. It's a little thing, a sign of trust and that she knows she can let her guard down, that helped her learn to do the same.

"I remember finding you. Bottom of a cliff in Odessa, the vehicle wrecked, the scientist dead and you were bleeding. The look on your face... Like you weren't sure you could trust us. Could trust me" murmurs Maria tiredly. Natasha feels her heart clench and squeezes Maria's hand.

"I wasn't sure you guys were going to believe me. Not many people knew about the Winter Soldier then and even fewer believed in the ghost story."

"Sounds about as believable as Nick Fury shooting me."

"Maybe, but I believe you. Apparently there's video footage too, but I believe you." Maria lets out a huff but she can't if it's from frustration or pain. "Get some rest." Maria is about say something else, but she cuts her off. "Nick's going to have to figure this out on his own. You've been handling things for so long, but it's his job, okay? And he's not alone." That seems to be enough to put her mind at ease.

Natasha always thought that this job would take Maria from her. She knows Maria's imagined being on a carrier and hearing that she was down and being unable to do anything. She's always thought it would be the reverse. That she'd be on the ground and someone would takeover for Maria on comms. She always wondered what she would do. Could she keep going? Continue to fight and save the world one more time when hers hadn't just come to a stand still, but ended?

"Stop it" says Maria, giving her a nudge.

"Hmm?"

"I can hear you worrying. It's all you've been doing--"

"Because you got shot!" She feels Maria nod slightly.

"I know, but both healing and worrying are exhausting. Let's just put all that on pause for a little while." Now that it's been brought up, Nat really starts to feel it. "I'll be right here."

"You better be" mumbles Natasha as her eyes begin to droop. The last thing she feels before falling asleep is Maria giving her hand another squeeze.

I've always wondered why there's never been a blackhill & harlivy crossover fanfic. like that would actually be insane and written well wouldn't be crack. like, really think about it, an ex russian spy with her military girlfriend finding themselves having to work with two shameless murderers, but one of them actually just kills people who are mean to plants. what could go wrong here? I might have to write this fic but I've got so much other stuff planned.

and for good measure just throw in agathario. Another shameless murderer and somebody who brings all those dead people to the other side and she's forced not to have feelings towards it. The power of lesbian and bi women is crazy. these three couples in one story would be the peak of lesbian fanfiction, satirical or not 😭

One that comes after The Marvels (and would have further additions to it) and one involving Natasha's family.

I can't help feeling like the Red Room family one should come first (plot reasons) but the one my head is focusing on is post The Marvels.
