Warning: this might be a hard and long read, but I highly recommend for you to go through with it- especially if you intend on following or befriending me. Below you'll find a 3000~ words long confession (minus the tags), which never fails to kill my appetite... So make sure you're not eating anything if you intend to press on.

Here are some of the reasons I distanced myself from the RWBY fandom and anything Whiterose related for years:

• Disenchantment with the show and its writing after Miles and Kerry were left in charge (with Kerry being the only one left now, if I remember this correctly)

• Excessive identification with a fictional character (Weiss Schnee)

• Previously undiagnosed mental health issues

• Idolization of love and over-romanticization of a life I could never have

• An unforgiving, toxic fandom and a boatload of bad experiences

• The fact that a person I irredeemably & irreversibly hurt still roams —and has become big within— the Whiterose fandom

• Relationship messes IRL that kind of relate to —or were the result of— the excessive identification and escapism I was engaging in through RWBY and Whiterose specifically

• All of the above leading to enough guilt, self-hatred and generally negative feelings around a ship I used to love that I could not bring myself to write another fanfiction ever since

• Life & university keeping me busy after I got help and worked through some of my mental health issues

...

With that out of the way... I just don't know where to begin.

I was drawn to RWBY and Whiterose for many reasons.

Back in 2017, I was trapped in a toxic relationship (marriage), working my ass off (whenever I could) to support my then partner.

I engaged in many forms of escapism: from gaming to writing fanfics- dreaming of a better, more adventurous life filled with action...

It was around that time period that I found RWBY again- a love at second sight (if I have to be fully honest), since I had already discovered the show back when I was in high school, while it was still releasing volume 2, in between 2012 and 2014, but had to drop it due to depression and other issues going on at the time.

When I found it again, in 2017, I was living in a literal basement with my now ex-wife.

I started deeply relating to Weiss since her family, backstory, and much more, aligned almost perfectly with my own background, personality and past.

You could say that there were an awful lot of coincidences going on:

- my ex-wife had a name similar to Ruby Rose and shared some of her personality traits (but only on the surface)

- I knew (or used to know) people who acted like and / or reflected some of the side characters and villains from RWBY to a T (I used to know an IRL "Cinder Fall" with the same black, long hair and missing eye + one of my former best friends is an uncannily similar, long-haired version of Nora)

- I had an almost identical abusive family dynamic to Weiss: a narcissistic, manipulative father, who alternated between being too controlling / involved in my life (and would put me down for bad grades, life choices, and much, much more) and being completely absent due to important business trips; a semi-distant mother, who suffered from mood swings and anger issues and would drown her sorrows in several huge glasses of red wine; a cousin, whom I considered to be like an elder sister (like Winter to Weiss), who moved far away- I hardly ever see her anymore; another cousin (her sibling), who resembled Whitley in every aspect and was like an obnoxious little brother to me when we were young- and a family butler, completely bald (compared to Klein, who is only somewhat bald), who was *kind of* like a father figure to me for a while

- My mother owns a mansion, which originally belonged to my grandfather (apparently his inheritance was the result of that side of the family being rich merchants)

- I kept everyone at arm's length, both when I was young and now as an adult, because of how awful people have been during my childhood and generally throughout my life (some of the initial bullying, harassment and false friendships were related to wealth-related jealousy)

- I also experienced the death and loss of all the people who were dearest to me in (and around) my family: my maternal grandmother —who loved everyone unconditionally— , my maternal grandfather —whom I admired and respected deeply— and uncle, who was a kind soul- among many others... (family friends, cats I grew up with- a dog as well). I have never properly gotten over the grief attached to their loss (part of the reason behind why I became inherently scared of becoming attached to anyone else, in fear of losing them at a later date, one way or another)

- Weiss' songs spoke (and still speak) to me on such a personal level that it is hard for me to hold back tears whenever I listen to them by myself...

...

Long story short, you can see how this drove me down a very, VERY deep rabbit hole... Especially because I started obsessively shipping Whiterose, to the point of idolizing it... maybe secretly hoping it would influence my IRL relationship...? (subconsciously, not intentionally)

My marriage eventually fell apart, going as nuclear as it could have, with my ex-wife cheating on me with two different guys (each guy on a separate occasion).

I ended up filing for divorce after trashing our apartment, following a long-overdue mental breakdown... But I'm not going to get into that. I'm not here to throw myself a pity party. It happened a long time ago. I just wish my obsession with Whiterose and RWBY would have ended there... but it didn't.

You see, not too long ago, I was diagnosed with ADHD and Autism by proper mental health professionals.

I originally sought help due to depression, anxiety and my social ineptitude reaching —once more— a breaking point.

It still remains one of my deepest regrets to this date: the fact that I sought professional help only after f*cking up my life so immensely. A lot of suffering on all sides could have been prevented, had I just decided to get help prior to... What I have done.

Before I got help (and messed up), I had also attempted to heal from trauma on my own, which, miraculously, went somewhat well and exorcized some of my many demons.

Either way, without going into too much detail about my trauma... The Autism diagnosis kind of turned my world upside down at first. It did make a lot of sense (in fact- perhaps it made TOO much sense, once I finally started to come to terms with it), because —trauma and other mental health issues aside— I always struggled to fit in. And it wasn't just because of other kids being jealous of my family being well-off... I was just weird to everyone else, and stood out like a sore thumb.

Lastly, pertaining my mental issues... Due to my odd, excessive pattern spotting behavior and ideas of reference, alongside some "paranormal" occurrences that I still cannot fully explain to this day (which, I guess fall under the category of "magical beliefs"), I have long since theorized that I might be suffering from (undiagnosed) Schizotypal Personality Disorder as well... It would explain an awful lot of things, and make my tendency to heavily lean into Weiss' character even more pathological.

Thing is... Being around the RWBY fandom was really bad for me due to the above-mentioned inner turmoil.

Combine a complete mental basket casket like me with a bunch of insecure, dissatisfied, immature & toxic teenagers, and you got yourself a recipe for disaster.

Trouble started around the first time I took identifying with Weiss a little too far... After landing on a Whiterose Discord Server run by no other than [REDACTED] (this person no longer is, therefore, I refuse to talk ill of the dead), where I shared pictures of myself (I had bleached my hair to a snowy white color- or bright silver. Doesn't really matter) and half-jokingly stated that I was the "real life Weiss".

All I'll say on the matter, is that the person who ran this server was very well-known and popular throughout the Whiterose fandom as a whole- and I got bullied by them and people on their Discord server... so much so that I left not even a few days in from joining.

The bullying hurt so much, perhaps, because when you see something as a part of your identity and you have older scars from being bullied and traumatized in schools... Plus being autistic and feeling things x100 more intensely... Well. It compounds. It left a mark. I forever felt unsafe and anxious around the fandom ever since... And that alone should have taught me an important lesson, but oh boy- was I in for it: I was not done humiliating myself yet.

The mistake I mention / reference so often? It's the reason why I want to make sure that you don't think of me as a victim. A survivor? Yes, maybe. But a victim? Not at all.

It's true that a lot of bad sh*t happened to me throughout the course of my life, which ended up making me lag *WAY* behind with my mental age (my autism also did not help in that regard), but none of it excuses or condones what I ended up doing.

Sometime around the beginning of 2020, I had started befriending a Whiterose artist. They were, at the time, a minor: 16, turning 17 in September of that year. For reference, I was 24, turning 25 in November of that same year.

I commissioned them a few times because I genuinely thought they were super talented and that their art was gorgeous, considering how young they were.

COVID lockdowns and isolation happened, which caused me to become overweight... A burden that I and this artist could relate over. We started talking more frequently- and slowly began to open up to each other about stuff.

At first- it was our issues, but interests got thrown into the mix too... Such as our shared obsession for Whiterose and the show (RWBY). Additionally, I used to draw a lot at their age as well, plus we had similar music from our childhoods- and we started bonding more and more.

It was a gradual process and I didn't think much of it at the time.

I grew protective of them because they'd been through so much and reminded me a lot of my younger self.

It should have stayed like that. A platonic, close friendship... But then, their 17th birthday came around, where they ended up confessing their feelings to me.

Obviously, my initial reaction was shock, as well as a mild dose of being grossed / weirded out.

"You're a minor. And that's the end of that" was my response at the time.

And yet- over the course of the next 5-6 months, I grew more and more brimming with anxiety... And concerned. I was in denial at first, but it soon hit me that I had ended up catching feelings for them as well.

A normally functioning, well informed adult would have made the morally correct, mature choice of cutting off contact and possibly seeking help- But I was none of those things. I had a father who told me there was nothing wrong with dating a 17 year old (I went No Contact with him, by the way. One of the best decisions of my life and I still only have Weiss' character arc, written by Monty, to thank for that).

Regardless of my ignorance on the subject, I should have really known better. It felt wrong and I knew it was wrong somewhere deep down, but I didn't understand why, or, at least, not fully. According to the laws in their country, it was still legal, technically speaking- and I genuinely loved them, so I thought that would make it alright, because "17 and a half is not that far from 18, so there is no difference, right...?".

Add to this the fact that I had a false memory of being "mature" at that age- mostly a consequence of people demanding that of me, due to circumstances that developed in high school that I am not willing to talk about on this post (it's getting long enough as is).

But yeah...

With feelings of love winning over any common sense I may have had, I was trying to do away with the wrongness of it by rationalizing it... I never should have done so.

Regardless of the reasons that led me to where I am now... the damage has been done, no matter how much I wish I could take it back.

They kept insisting and were persistently chasing me- which, pathetically enough (for me. I'm the pathetic one here), made me eventually cave in.

The loneliness from lockdown and isolation may have played a role in this too...

They probably noticed the change in my behavior, with me being way more anxious around any gay jokes and joke flirting... And they knew about my weakness: that I was tired of always having to be the one to make a move in relationships and wanted to have someone express interest in me for a change.

Regardless of the reasons behind why and how it happened, I agreed to "dating" them while they were still, even if just by a few months, a minor.

Needless to say- It all came crashing down and burning within a week or two.

I had seen it coming, or at least, part of me had, because there had been red flags in the form of their mental health being poor from the start... Said mental health issues ended up escalating (and this was something I noticed far prior to the relationship. I had been aware of their issues for a while, but stupidly thought I could help them overcome stuff- huge mistake on my end, once again) when the first hardships, differences and disagreements started cropping up.

When things nose-dived- and their mask of fake maturity crumbled to pieces... They had a suicidal episode. Their father ended up finding out and justifiably demanded they cut off all contact with me.

I was depressed for the entirety of summer 2021, due to the sheer amount of guilt and shittiness I felt (and still feel) towards myself and the situation. I never wanted for them to get hurt- but I tried meddling with personal issues of theirs that would have required a mental health professional intervening, rather than a naïve, dumbf*ck, autistic idiot with savior syndrome, desperately trying to save someone resembling their younger self and also partly re-enacting their own abusive parental relationship dynamic. Yeah... You heard that last part right.

My mother used to emotionally abuse me the same way they unintentionally did- for the short duration of the relationship (if you can even call it that). This was the final straw that ended up crushing and destroying me on the inside, both on a psychological- and emotional level, once I finally connected the dots and figured it all out...

I had let them use me as a punching bag when their mood got really bad or extreme (they probably had / still have BPD) and I tried to help them the same way I tried helping my mother, who also suffered from similar mental health issues (sudden mood swings and anger issues).

Life goes full circle, they say. And I was dumb enough to reach out to them again after they turned 18... Out of guilt. While "on drugs" (some legal drugs have undesirable side-effects on me, which result in a far stronger high than normal. Most people would only be able to achieve / experience such through the use of illegal drugs).

Wrong as it was, we talked for a while and it soon turned into flirting again- but I knew somewhere deep down that even if the wrongness of them being a minor wasn't there anymore, it just wasn't right. I had gone through too much emotional turmoil... They also had too much power and control over me** (since it seems that I completely lose my mind when I develop strong feelings for someone) and, in fact, when the abuse resumed and I confronted them about it, they said "let's just lose touch and never talk to one another again".

And I respected that. While crushed, heartbroken, defeated, ashamed and hurting from abandonment and rejection, I still respected (and to this day, respect) their wishes...

**I want to make it clear that I *DO NOT* blame them AT ALL for what transpired. Back then, I was dumb enough to think —before properly informing myself on the topic— that I could balance any possible power dynamic I had over them as an adult / 25 year old, by giving them control over me and everything in the relationship. It was both an intentional- and a subconscious choice (the love part, I couldn't help). I only later came to realize that power dynamics between two people sporting such an age gap can never be rectified...

...and I forever have to live with what I have done.

I was depressed for all of Christmas 2021 as well. But I eventually let it go. I accepted that I deserved to be alone and moved on.

I will slowly heal, but I still find myself thinking, from time to time, that maybe I would only be able to do right by them if I went to jail.

Jailtime really is something I feel I personally deserve. While we never met in person to do adult stuff... we still eRPd (erotic[-ally?] RolePlayed)- and I sent two very, VERY wrong, inappropriate pictures to them, that were sexual in nature, even though they didn't expose anything that would class as "nudes" (no sexually explicit body parts were involved).

One of said pictures was of my face blushing bright pink and another of a used sex toy.

That- and we shared sexual fetishes, which... was / is on a whole other level of messed up.

I still feel dirty, mortified, disgusted with myself- and horrible... whenever I think back on all of that.

Had I known this to be the outcome of my poor sense of judgement, I would have NEVER gone anywhere near them. As dumb as the saying is- hindsight really is 20/20...

...And while I highly doubt that I would make the same mistake twice, I ask of minors that come across my social media profiles to avoid any interaction with me whatsoever.

In terms of becoming a better person... I really am trying my best. I donated to a charity helping children / teens with mental health issues, and I have gone full vigilante- pushing potential predators out of Discord servers I'm on, where minors are still present and I witnessed adults trying to groom them.

I can only do so much, though...

I'm a broke student, who used to be a victim of sexual abuse and assault too (there is a reason behind why I get anxious, angry and sick to the bone whenever I hear about —or witness— someone abusing a child)- and while I have overcome that trauma, I still cannot believe that I nearly, if not entirely, became a perpetrator of it myself.

If what I did effectively constituted a crime under their country's laws- and there was a way to turn myself in and not involve them directly (so that they wouldn't have to relive any hurt, psychological or emotional damage that I may have inflicted upon them in court, as they would have to provide victim testimony on the stand), I would definitely do so.

As much as it would destroy my life and chances at having any kind of career in the future... I still feel the need to take responsibility.

...With that said, I'm not asking for anyone's —and *ESPECIALLY* not their— forgiveness, nor pity.

I'm the one and only person responsible for my own actions, and I just wish them well, regardless of what they think of me.

I never had any ill intent, and despite all the hate I might get for outing myself like this, I still do not have an inkling of ill intent in me.

I no longer sport the long, white, bleached hair and bangs I had, which made me like myself in the mirror. I don't deserve that. I'm not Weiss, no matter how similar our backstories are, or seemed to be.

I cut my hair short- mainly to punish myself, as I do not like it at all when it is that way.

This will hopefully mark the start of a real, positive change.

I have recently turned 27 and I am finally starting to settle into —and feel— my age. Anyone 19 or younger just sounds immature and childish to me, which is a good thing.

I wish I had gotten help and started bettering myself during my late teen years, but alas- I wasted my twenties trying to find myself and sort myself out. I don't know what kind of future awaits me.

For the time being, I just wanted to get this off my chest, because I feel the need to let people know what I have done- and that they might get sh*t for associating with me in any shape or form by befriending or following me.

I have made many mistakes in my life and do not love myself in any way... But I still try to help people however I can, from a distance, whenever I see that there might be a chance for them to feel better, make better decisions, or simply help them not turn into a f*ckup like me.

P.S.: To [REDACTED] (the person I hurt): if you ever read this, I want you to know that I am proud of how far you've come. I wish you all the healing and all the best things in the world. You've got more passion, determination and drive to chase your dreams than I ever did... Which is admirable. I hope that your work, now flourishing into something bigger, becomes a hallmark of what you are capable of- of your accomplishments. You are —and have always been— better than me, despite all the crap you've been through as a kid- despite your trauma, BPD and how you hurt me.

You probably don't care for me anymore... And that's for the best. Move on. Find happiness.

I'm slowly withering away in the tight grip of The Apathy (if you need a physical manifestation / personification of my poor mental health eating away at me).

I cannot be saved... shouldn't be- and won't be. This is where I belong and that's exactly what I deserve.

Farewell. I'm truly sorry. For everything.

Boston Tea Party - Part 3 (Matt Connerly: Chapter 1)

Matt Connery - Chapter 1

Matt aggressively threw himself into a chair, scattering multiple bags on M&Ms, nails, and old Pokemon cards. "I'm gonna need chicken blood, salt, five candles, and a bottle of vodka," he said.

Johanna peered over his shoulder, bottles of soda in one hand while she settled her sunglasses on her head with the other. "Vodka? For the ritual?"

Matt sighed dramatically. "No, that's just to make me feel better about ripping a hole in the universe."

"We're just setting up for a party," Sebastian reminded, rolling his eyes. He grabbed the M&Ms from Matt and poured them into a bowl on the nearby snack table.

"Dude, what the fawk," Johanna scoffs with a sort of frat boy-valley accent, lightly punching Sebastian a couple of times in the back.

"We have to get ready, don't we? The party starts at two and it’s already--" Sebastian pulled out his phone and checked the time-- "1:48."

"Shit, he's right. What's all that stuff for anyway?"

"Well," Matt started, "before your boyfriend so RUDELY took my things without ASKING, the M&Ms were for shooting up our noses, the Pokemon cards were for Kiss and Blow, and the nails were just for cinematic effect."

"First of all, I'm pretty sure someone will snort something regardless," Johanna started. "Second of all, those are my Pokemon cards. Gimme back my fucking Flareon. We'll use something else for Kiss and Blow. Third of all, nails are a delicacy that shouldn't be wasted for trivial recreational purposes. Fourth of all, we're not dating."

Yeah, fucking right, Matt thought to himself. It was totally obvious they had a thing for each other. Johanna called it "brotherly love", Matt called it "sexual tension". "Okay, maybe not yet, but eventually."

"Nah, she's engaged to Bartholomew," Sebastian teased. Johanna punched him in the arm, more harshly this time. Laughing obnoxiously, Sebastian ran around the house while Johanna chased him close behind, pillow in hand, smacking him when she was close enough.

Matt rolled his eyes just as Bart, Ciel, and Lizzie walked through the door, all with different snacks in hand. Lizzie's wearing her usual pigtails down, a much more mature look from what everyone is used to.

"Hey, guys," Matt greeted. "We're still setting up snacks and stuff, but feel free to get comfortable."

"Awesome," Bart replied, setting his Mountain Dew: Code Red down on the table. "Where's Johanna?"

Matt shrugged. "I don't know. Currently somewhere with Sebastian and a pillow." Right after that sentence dropped from his mouth, Bart power-walked through the house in search of the girl. "I probably could've worded that better."

"I'm not even going to ask," Ciel sighs.

Elizabeth went up to Matt and enveloped him in a hug. "You look so cute today! Normally dark colors aren't my thing, but they suit you perfectly! Although might I suggest..." The blonde reached into a pocket on her overalls and pulled out a cat ring, placing it in Matt's hand. Matt observed its white body as he pushed it down on his left middle finger, its rainbow eyes reflecting the light.

"I bought one for Johanna, too," Lizzie continued, hardly able to keep her excitement. "I know how you two always go to pride every year together and once I saw how cute it was, I couldn't resist."

"Believe me, she couldn't," Ciel huffed, dropping down on the couch.

Normally, Matt cringes at how enthusiastic and cute Lizzie is all the time. However, this time was an exception. "Thanks, Lizzie." Reluctantly, he returned the hug. It's only a few seconds before Ciel mumbled a "too long" under his breath, the three of them laughing as Grell, William, Ronald, and the others walk in.

Within minutes, everyone had a drink in hand and is settling into the party. Matt felt a tap on his shoulder and turned around to see Sebastian. "Oh, hey, man. What's Joey doing?"

Sebastian rubbed the back of his neck. "She and Bart are arguing over something. Nothing serious, I don't think."

"Oh." That's weird. Those two hardly ever fight, Matt thought.

"Yeah..." Sebastian trailed off. "Anyways, you said your dad was supposed to be performing? That would certainly kick the party off to a good start."

"Oh, shit, yeah, you're right." Matt handed his solo cup of blue Mountain Dew to Sebastian. "Hold this for me."

Hearing Sebastian mutter a "what the fuck", Matt made his way outside to the garage his father had converted into a studio. He named it Santa Monica Discharge, whatever the fuck that means. He still has no idea where the fuck that idea came from but his dad practically took LSD every day of his 20s.

Without knocking, Matt quietly opened the door to the studio to see his father listen intently as another masculine figure, probably a couple of years older than him, played a few notes from an Elvis Presley song on a keyboard.

"Oh, hey, bud," August greeted with a smile as he stood up. The other figure turned around as well, still holding the last note he left on.

So, he's got brown eyes, floofy hair, pretty fucking sick tattoos, he's actually pretty skinny but has buffed out arms, and is an overall bean, Matt thought to himself. It wasn't that bad of a description. The brunet was about as tall as August, his hair falling ever so slightly in front of his warm ivory face. His brown eyes met Matt's gunmetal blue before he had to break from whatever trance this stranger has put on him.

Matt shook his head, returning his attention to August. "We were, uh, getting ready for you to perform, whenever you ready." He nodded towards the other male in the room. "Who's this?"

August patted the stranger's back. "This is Christian. I'm pretty sure he goes to your school."

"I'm a senior," Christian chimed in.

"Yep. He came to me seeking musical guidance so I decided to help him out a bit," August explained. "I didn't mean for it to cut into your party, though. I didn't forget or anything."

"Yeah, I should probably get going," Christian agreed, grabbing his bag resting on the floor. "I've got a little project I'm working on anyways."

"H E Y, why not come veg with us cool kids for a bit," Matt offered shakily, immediately mentally kicking himself for acting so stupid.

"Aren't you guys just a bunch of freshmen?"

Matt felt a pit fall into his stomach. "Well, I mean--"

"Nah, I'm kidding. I'm playing with August today, actually."

"Oh, cool," Matt chuckled to himself. Wait, weren't you just about to leave? That don't make no sense. "See you in a couple of minutes then. With that, he turned and left the studio.

The entire way back to the house (a quick 35-second trip, at most), Matt couldn't help but yell at himself for acting like such an anxiety-ridden freak. A gorgeous man WHO GOES TO YOUR SCHOOL walks into your house and what do you do? You go 'oH, hEy, SoRrY, dO yOu CoMe HeRE oFtEn? Really? CUZ I LIVE HERE AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH--

Bart came storming out of the front door, holding his nose, wincing quietly.

Matt began to ask, "Dude--"

"Don't fucking talk to me," Bart yelled, making his way towards the sidewalk, pulling out his phone a tapping a bit.

Slowly, Matt walked inside, hoping someone would have an explanation for what just happened. Alas, everyone was just as stunned as he was.

Someone get a moving van because these last 5 minutes have been a lot to unpack.

characterization cheat sheet: the batfamily boys

Hey everyone! I had the idea to compile a comprehensive list of different traits and attributes for each member of the batfamily based off of both canon and fanon interpretations. I think this could be useful for new members to the fandom, or those looking to write and/or draw for these characters. Remember that these will have a slight bias considering I, a fanon creator, am creating the lists. But I’ll try to make them as accurate as possible.

Appearances vary from artist to artist, so I’ll try to stray away from general details and add more little things you can consider in your art.

Bruce Wayne:

Age: 35-45

Appearance: Extremely physically fit, but signs of aging and prolonged exertion can slip through. Has a collection of scattered scars varying from fresh to fully healed. Strong, dark features. Conventionally attractive, but can easily switch to be foreboding/intimidating. Well kept in public appearances, but can look like death incarnate when in private.

Personality: Dual personas: “Bruce” (at home, but not as batman) and “Brucie” (public appearances like galas, news interviews). Bruce is stoic, well-read and educated, well-mannered, and occasionally can be witty and laid-back. Smirks rather than smiles. Brucie is loud, spontaneous, charming, and sometimes oblivious. He is the womanizer and scandal-maker. Often the actions of Brucie are motivated by Batman’s interests.

Speech: Bruce was mainly raised by as English butler, so his speech patterns are proper and smooth. Rarely uses speech fillers such as “uh” and “um,” except when interrupted while concentrating. Despite living in Gotham his entire life, he has not picked up the accent. His voice is newscaster American, almost impossible to pinpoint to a certain region. His speech as Brucie changes to relate more to the audience he is addressing. Speeches to Gotham high society will sound different than those aimed to the general public.

Additional Attributes: Bruce Wayne in all of his personalities is fiercely protective, and can easily slip into a deeper voice to intimidate. Bruce can be extremely empathetic and slightly impulsive when it comes to children who have lost their parents. As learned through his training to become Batman, Bruce is disciplined and can work for hours straight.

Dick Grayson:

Age: 23-29

Appearance: Dick Grayson mirrors a young Bruce Wayne despite their not being blood related. This could be a subconscious action by Dick to absorb traits of his father figure. His lean acrobatic body starts to set him apart from Bruce’s image. Dick manages to be well-built but still limber and flexible. His feet and hands are rough and calloused. His hair can get long but usually stays at a length in between Bruce’s and Tim’s. His eyes are bright blue without even a hint of green or brown.

Personality: In one comic I believe it was Superman who said that Dick Grayson is a universal constant, meaning that on every alternate earth or timeline, you can always rely on him to be good and pure. I think this really sums up who Dick should be. He is kind to a fault, and can sometimes be naive and not think things through. He loves to love, be that in his family, in his romantic relationships, in his friendships, and even in strangers. He is a chronic hero who only wants to see the world as a better place. But it’s important to note that Dick can get angry when pushed, and holds grudges.

Speech: Dick is an extremely interesting study in speech patterns. As a child he traveled with the circus, until he lived with clear-spoken Bruce Wayne and a proper English butler. So influences to his speech and accent come both internationally and locally to Gotham and Bludhaven. As a child living at Wayne Manor, Dick picks up a slight Gotham tinge to his accent with some British flourish in his vowel sounds. He regularly speaks in slang. As Nightwing he is able to suppress his unique speech to sound more evenly American.

Additional Attributes: Dick acts differently around each of his family members as to be what they need in a big brother. For example, he is more fatherly to Damian while to Tim he is more an equal. Dick can fidget and has less of an attention span than Bruce. He can use jokes as a coping mechanism.

Jason Todd:

Age: 22-26

Appearance: Hair is often long on top and shorter on the sides, sometimes with a white streak as a side effect from the Lazarus Pit. Tallest and heaviest of all the kids, very physically intimidating. Has a lot of scars and burns, and in some fan works he has a “Y” shaped scar the length of his chest from his autopsy. Never skips leg day. Green/blue eyes.

Personality: Jason goes through a lot of character development, but for this list I’m going off a timeline of post-Under the Red Hood, where Jason is on okay, yet still a little shaky, terms with the rest of the family. Jason has a hard time separating vigilante life and civilian life; his death as Robin ended his life as Jason Todd, blurring the lines between the two. Jason is legally dead, so he is basically building an identity back up. He holds some attributes from childhood: brave, impulsive, loud-mouthed, and street-smart. But his experiences post-Robin have made him a hardened loner. He lives modestly and with some semblance of order. He’s hard to foster a relationship with, but can be a passionate friend/family member when he opens up.

Speech: Jason probably has the least influence from Bruce and Alfred’s speech patterns, seeing as though he spent a lot more time with his biological family/on the streets than he did as a preteen in the manor. He is the definition of Gotham vernacular, with a rough edge. So much so that as a child, the high society gala attenders sometimes had a hard time understanding him. Often talks in curt, short sentences.

Additional Attributes: He has trouble expressing his emotions, more specifically anger and/or grief. Can both love or hate furiously. Inherently good, but sometimes does “bad” things. Protective over children, especially those living on the street. Very much a believer in “the ends justify the means.”

Tim Drake:

Age: 17-20

Appearance: Pale skin, dark hair. Sharp cheek bones and jawline, mostly from how skinny he is. His body isn’t technically “built” to be extremely athletic, but he’s forced a nice lean build from stringently working out. Easily loses and gains weight as a direct result of his work, causing fluctuations in his build. Five foot something, will eventually be out-grown by Damian. Long hair that can still be styled to look professional.

Personality: Tim Drake is very passionate in pretty much everything he sets his mind to. He feels as though he imposed himself onto Batman to become Robin, so he works twice as hard to prove his worth. He can be self conscious and deprecating. Tim as Robin or Red Robin is very different than civilian Tim; his hero personas can be bolder and more confident. Despite dropping out of high school, he values education.

Speech: Tim grew up rich, and his speech reflects an intelligence gained from private tutors. Despite this, he knows how to interact with those his age in using less formal language and slang. Often quotes books and movies. Can be awkward and stumble over his words when teased by his friends/family. He can manipulate people easily in business settings by talking fast and confidently while explaining complex topics.

Additional Attributes: Tim’s demeanor is directly tied to his varying levels of confidence and anxiety. Tim is has above-average intelligence and is diligent in detective work, but can still act like a teenager. He can be stubborn to extremes and will patiently play the long con. He does not cope well with loss.

Duke Thomas:

Age: 17-19

Appearance: Short dark hair, shaved on the sides and/or the back. Often wears the colors yellow and black. Around the same height as Tim, but a little taller. Stronger and heavier build more alike to Jason than Dick, but he’s still light on his feet. Expressive face that can give away his feelings easily. Still a bit of a baby face, but he’s still well-proportioned and conventionally handsome.

Personality: In my works, I’ve often described Duke as having a “sun-shiny” personality. He is one to not even think twice about putting others before himself. Duke uses his own personal experiences to guide him as a hero rather than suppress his emotions. Duke went from being an only child to having a large family, so he can sometimes feel overwhelmed. He is on friendly terms with every member of the batfamily, as well as many other heroes. Duke is self-sacrificial and is still learning how to effectively work as a detective.

Speech: Duke grew up in a middle class Gotham family, so his speech is influenced by his parents as well as his city environment. Duke has a mild Gotham accent and speaks a lot in modern slang. He hasn’t had much influence from Bruce and Alfred, considering he hasn’t lived with them for long. It’s possible that as he grows he will pick up some influences from Bruce and Tim’s way of speaking, but will most likely hold onto the accent of his childhood.

Additional Attributes: Duke is a metahuman vigilante in a city where Batman typically bans them, which causes a bit of an insecurity and a perfectionist drive. These are exasperated by the long line of history preceding him, as well as the fact that he involved himself in the Robin movement rather than being handpicked by Batman. He and Tim can relate in that way. Duke is an ardent student of Batman and is dedicated to the cause.

Damian Wayne:

Age: 10-14

Appearance: Looks similar to Bruce when he was the same age, yet stronger and with tanner skin. His hair is expertly cut and styled, but still age-appropriate. He is the shortest of the batkids, but still has a lot of time and potential to grow. He pretty much won the genetics lottery with Bruce and Talia as his biological parents, and is made for athletics. He has some scars that stand out with their pale coloring against his tan skin.

Personality: Damian is slowly becoming less of a brat, to put it bluntly. He admires his family and tries to mimic them, but will never confess it. Damian is quick to judge and will voice his opinion no matter how scathing it may be, both as civilian and hero. Damian is slowly realizing he may not want the Batman mantle as quickly as he planned. Jon is a perfect foil to Damian, and often makes him a better person when they’re together.

Speech: His speech is proper and formal. Prefers formal titles: ex. “father” over “dad” and last names over first. Damian is at least bilingual (Arabic and English), and can switch between languages easily. Most of his speech patterns developed from his tutors in the League, and more recently, Alfred. Influences like Jon and Dick have introduced him to a more modern, laid-back way of speaking, which he sometimes utilizes when relaxed.

Additional Attributes: Damian has problems with authority, especially those that he doesn’t respect like his teachers at school. He can be arrogant and childish ever though he often acts like he knows everything. Damian is still a child and has much to learn from batman and family as well as unlearn from his time at the League. Dami was forged to be a ruthless warrior, but now has to find a balance between the hero Robin and the child Damian Wayne.

128. Elantris by Brandon Sanderson: first in the elantris series. also sanderson’s first novel. epic fantasy. political intrigue. demons posing as religious leaders. if atlantis was just a place for powered people along the coast and then suddenly everyone inside decayed and became a myth.

Stuffed Vol. 1 by Extended Play: adorable comic strip collection where a girl’s stuffed animals are alive and talk to her and each other. all of them are mythological creatures: unicorn, dragon, gryphon, etc. chaos ensues. you never see the parents’ faces. can read for free on webtoons (and i think tapas? i’d have to check)

132. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy: okay look. this is one of those that i am glad i read and i absolutely will never read again. there’s so many philosophy tangents, everyone is whiny, and its 1812 for like 2/3 of the book. 2 epilogues, why???

134. Heartstopper: Volume One by Alice Oseman: found the webcomic at the beginning of the pandemic, got a physical copy a few months later. sweet high school comic about Charlie and Nick falling in love with each other

The Witch’s Kind by Louisa Morgan: her magic systems are always interesting. woman’s dog finds a child abandoned on the beach. the kid has gills. alternating timelines, the woman’s childhood and young adulthood in the lead up to WW2 and post WW2 from finding the baby. eventually the timelines connect.

136. Parnassus On Wheels by Christopher Morley: eager to get away from her layabout brother, a woman buys a book wagon and goes around to various farms/towns selling books to locals. falls in love with the previous owner of the wagon

Shadow Scale by Rachel Hartman: book 2 in the Seraphina series. dragons and humans are living tensely next to each other, seraphina and a few other half dragon/half humans have to stop an all out war. also the antagonist can control minds. so. oh! and seraphina ends up in a poly relationship at the end

138. The Dragon Slayer of Trondheim by EK Johnston: middle grade novel about a girl who becomes the bard for a dragon slayer. very cool world building. set in canada.

139. The Giver: Graphic Novel by P. Craig Russell: beautiful artwork. words all taken from the novel by lois lowry. all in blues and whites before Jonas gets the memories of colors.

140. Serpentine by Philip Pullman: short story set in the golden compass universe sometime after Amber Spyglass. illustrated.

141. Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman: book 2 in the arc of a scythe series. please read the first one first, this is a continuation for sure. alternating POV.

142. The Patron Saint of Liars by Ann Patchett: novel following one woman’s life through her eyes, her second husband’s eyes, and her daughter’s eyes. i believe it is ann patchetts first novel.

143. Snapdragon by Kat Leyh: graphic novel with loads of queer representation, magic, and growing up in a small town tw: parental abuse, danger to minors

144. The Toll by Neal Shusterman: third and final book in the arc of a scythe series. extremely satisfying ending to the series.

145. Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches by Audre Lorde: essay collection, focus on racism and feminism

146. The Little Witch by M. Rickert: tor.com short story, spooky vibes, older woman takes in a strange little girl

147. The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E Harrow: i’m so mad i didn’t get a chance to read it when it first came out because WHERE had it been all my life. doorways to other worlds, a huge dog that is fiercely protective of its owner, magic, fun names. framework is that the book you are reading is a book written by various characters in the story. that shit is my catnip. content warning: harm to dog (THE DOG IS FINE I PROMISE), murder, protagonist held prisoner in her room multiple times

148. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro: very strange book. i loved every second of it. the weirdest boarding school you’ve ever attended. if you think i’m being vague i am. a story you’ll want to discover on your own.

149. A Room with a View by EM Forster: follow this one young woman around italy and then the english countryside as she deals with society’s expectations. writing style takes a little bit to get used to but worth the time to read it.

150. The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune: buckle up buttercups. this book has everything: found family, queer representation, kids with powers, small town charms, a cat!, heartwrenching poetry, on purpose child acquisition, sticking it to the man, Extremely Upper Management, the antichrist. everyone needs to read this book. i now need to get my hands on everything klune has written. i also wouldn’t mind like, 40 more novels in this universe.

Boston Tea Party - Part 2 (Jacquelyn Marek - Chapter 1)

Jacquelyn Marek - Chapter 1

It was a rainy Saturday night, the one right after the eventful Friday afternoon before. The rusty black Mazda rolled into the driveway of Feminine Vanilla. Its neon pink lights flickered outside the building as disproportionate women and men were way too old to be out on their own walk in and out of the doors.

Viola Kilduff put her lipstick in her purse as she looked over at her friend. "You sure you wanna do this?"

Jackie looked up from her phone. "I don't exactly have a ton of options."

"Yes, you do."

"Then why are you doing this?"

"Because I'm getting paid for shaking my ass. Why wouldn't anyone stop doing it for free?"

Jackie side. She doubted that she truly had a chance, but if all else failed here...

"Whatever. Let's just go."

The two girls stepped out of the car. Their heels clicked hard against the pavement as they made their way inside, gaining looks from nearby customers. Both had worn red bottoms (that Viola had stolen) and matching black outfits, Viola's a slip dress and Jackie's a co-ord of a cropped spaghetti string tank top and mini skirt.

Viola held open the door as her younger, shorter friend stepped inside. "Right this way."

As the redhead walked in, she was immediately flooded with neon lights, martini glasses, and almost naked women as far as the eye could see. In a corner a group was bringing their faces down to the table as the others egged them on as they brought their heads back up, a white powder resting on their upper lips. Girls in seven-inch heels slid down poles all across the building, cigarette smoke filling the air.

Viola motioned towards the back. "I'm gonna change. You coming?"

"Not tonight," Jackie said, "I'll just watch."

"Alright. But we gotta come up with some kind of secret password, a'ight? In case things get too uncomfortable for you?"

Jackie rolled her eyes. "Jesus, V, I'm not a little kid, okay? I'm sure I can handle it."

"Yeah, you sure as fuck wouldn't have gotten in here if you was."

"How did we get in, anyway? Like, I'm obviously not old enough to be a dancer--"

"You'd be surprised," Viola sighed. She gestured to a few girls serving drinks, stripping, even herself. "They don't question too much here. As long as she's willing to give 'im a lap dance, they don't complain."

Jackie nodded. "That's the sick and twisted world we live in isn't it?"

"Well. Your parents kicked you out for likin' pussy and you get to live with me now. As far as I'm concerned, this is an absolute win." Jackie raised an eyebrow. "You know what I mean, though. Right? Look, safe word is 'avocado'. I'll see you in a bit. If I'm not on that stage in five seconds, Leo will have my ass. Literally." With that, she leaned over to Jackie, kissed both cheeks, and made her way through the crowd, waving to coworkers along the way.

Just for a moment, Jackie felt like a little kid who'd just lost her mom in a grocery store. However, she quickly tossed away those feelings and confidently strutted over to the bar. This is how things had to be now. Any good childhood had been stolen away from her and now she had to turn to any form of money or housing she could get, and with Viola making a thousand in one weekend...

She positioned herself on a barstool. Once she got the bartender's attention, she had ordered a One Night Stand. "Really?" She looked over to a blond man sitting next to her.

"What," she barked, already forgetting the previously established safe word.

The man looked up at her. "If you really want to get drunk, you'll get something with a bit of Spirytus Stawski in it."

Jackie rolled her eyes, returning to her own mind. "I'm pretty sure they don't serve those here."

"Then at least allow me to pay for your drink?"

She scanned the man up and down. He had ivory skin and blond hair to just the very tops of his shoulders. He wore a smirk and possessed unnaturally purple eyes, but they did have an intriguing effect. He wore mostly white, a bold move for someone at a place like this. All joking aside, she found him kind of cute.

"Alright," she said, patting the seat next to her. "Let me talk to you."

He got up and approached her. Only then did Jackie realize how much taller he was to her. He signaled to the bartender that he would cover their drinks and held out a hand to Jackie. "Aleister. Aleister Chamber."

Jackie smirked as she shook his hand. "Jacquelyn Marek. Jackie for short."

"I love it. That's beautiful" Why the fuck did that make me blush? You know anyone here?"

"Um..." Jackie briefly searched the stages. "Her. There." She motioned to Viola, who was sliding up and down a pole in only a pair of hot pink panties and clear high heels.

"Ah," Aleister said, nodding. "Would you ever try that?"

This is one of those many things that Jackie knew that she probably shouldn't do, but was going to do anyway. "I haven't decided yet." She bit her lip and looked Aleister up and down. "Could I put on a show for you sometime?"

He chuckled and leaned closer to Jackie's ear. "Keep that up and it'll be more of a hands-on experience."

Jackie giggled and shyly tucked a few stray strands of hair behind her ear. Her chest began to heat up and it was getting a bit warmer between her legs. Throbbing, almost. Her breathing began to get a bit heavier but she tried her best to keep it under control. I'm gonna get myself in some deep shit tonight, she thought. And she was completely right.

It all happened in such a blur. Their drinks had arrived, they talked, drank some more. Jackie couldn't even begin to recall how it all lead to her making out with a mysterious man she had just met in the bathroom. She was enjoying herself, though. He was comfortable, but Aleister was still able to get rough with her.

Afterward, they exchanged numbers, saying that they would meet up again. Yeah fucking right, Jackie thought. She's done this routine before, if only once or twice. You love them for a night and leave them forever, or at least a long time.

Aleister left the bathroom, followed by a nonchalant Jackie. She took a seat up front as she watched Viola complete her performance. However, for some reason, she couldn't shake the feeling that this wouldn't be their last encounter.
