You know what I think is interesting? As a decently buff woman, the attitude of men towards me in a gym vs in a martial arts academy is VERY different.
Usually men in a gym will look at me That Way™ when I walk into the weight section and do 2 hours of upper body weight training. A lot are judgemental af, trying to dissect my form even tho I've gone through several personal trainers and my form is usually better than theirs. Just overall bad energy.
The men in my martial arts academy?
Something else entirely.
The guys from muay thai and bjj, especially the ones from wrestling, are always hyping me up and encouraging me. Of course there's some exceptions, but most of these dudes have already been humbled by enough women that they're eons less judgemental.
They respect me enough to not go easy on me but they don't try to genuinely injure me (bad sportsmanship no matter the gender). If something about my form in a technique is off, they will give me constructive criticism instead of being demeaning or just staying silent about it to try to guarantee a win.
A guy last week was like "you really be brawling, you picked me up and rolled my on the ground like an alligator", and another dude today was like "you're getting so strong so fast it's ridiculous." AND I'M LIKE THANK YOU FOR THE GOOD ENERGY, WORKING OUT IS 80% OF MY PERSONALITY SO IM HOPING TO BE GOOD IN AT LEAST THAT😭😭😭💕💕

Joy Cavan, weapons expert and engineer. Has a hard time knowing when to quit. Is a big softie but has no patience for incompetence. Will take things apart when she's bored and forget to put them back together. Believes in bad luck, and is maybe a little too paranoid for her own good.
#she also likes powerlifting and is gym buddies with jericho#her crime is weapons dealing lol. it feels natural#she does bjj too#she and jericho met once before in a college compsci class#they're the only ones who get along from the start#total$hit$how#t$$ joy

Raaaaa i rlly like jiujitsu…its cool that its like a sport that requires your whole body, bc doing it rlly is like a test of ur whole entire athleticism; and theres a lot of thinking but a big part of it is feeling out positions and balance and trying to really read your partners intentions. Its like scary a lot of the time bc you never want to get hurt really but at the same time youve kinda gotta push yourself to improve.
#im rlly glad i competed i can tell why bjj players make such a big deal out of it#bc it can be hard to really read ppls intentions at a gym like socially#its kinda nice to get a baseline of what ‘lets really go for this 100% for real’ feels like#bc it makes just like hanging out and putting as much force as you feel comfortable with in the gym is nice#its like a lot more fun now and im not scared of rolling bc even if someone has bad intentions they still just want you to tap#its been funny starting to recognise when a higher belt has me in a position where theyre testing my response#and not just attacking so i can slow down and think a bit

I’m working on day 3 of this migraine and it fucking came back when I was parking at the gym and so YOU BET IM GONNA FEED IT SPICY NOODS
just BLAST THAT SHIT OUT
I did 20 min of exercise, which amounted to 35 squats, and I am just SO BORED of sitting on the couch watching TV or just laying there and drinking water, and I WANT TO FUCKING DO THINGS
#someone on Reddit mentioned that triptans like. REALLY dehydrate you#and the last time I had constant low-grade migraines that weren’t attributable to anything else#it was because I didn’t have enough electrolytes#but that was also during yoga teacher training where I was doing 20 hrs of yoga in a non-air-conditioned BJJ gym in the middle of the summer#in Tucson#every weekend#so it feels like the math isn’t mathing here

Why Training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is Helpful for Your Psychological Fitness?
Introduction
Psychological well-being is a very trending topic that trends very frequently on the internet. There’s a regular dose of instructions, tricks, and daily updates available to better your mental health. So, it’s evident that there’s a great interest in this topic.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu martial arts schools have long been argued and at times considered as a serious psychological health promoter. In particular, it’s true when it comes to despair, nervousness, and other common mental issues that people deal with on a consistent basis.
If you have experienced or observed BJJ training, you can probably understand BJJ’s efficiency in improving mental well-being.
This write-up elaborates few reasons why Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu martial arts classes near me can support you to improve your psychological fitness. Let’s explore more!
· Pressure Relief with Tough Exercise
Tough spirited workout is a fantastic way to stimulate the release of endorphins. This upbeat chemical offers a ‘natural high’ that is often linked with long-distance running or other forms of long-drawn-out and vigorous exercise.
Practicing and training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an extremely physical activity that stimulates the release of endorphins in the human brain. This great euphoria created by BJJ offers you a God-like mood that persists for the rest of the day. Go for training in the mornings and you’ll enjoy this thrill all day long. Discourage all false ways of improving your mood like drinking, smoking, etc., rather enjoy a BJJ training session and enjoy a natural boost to your mental state. It is also great for your complete health.
· Supporting Community
A sense of community and belonging is important to human wellness. When it comes to psychological health, a robust, optimistic, and helpful community can boost or damage your psychological well-being.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gyms/academies provide the most positive, and welcoming atmosphere around. Normally, instructors who’re trained professionals and world champions create a positive environment and encourage the learners to be the best of themselves. If you’re new to the academy, a lot of respect is showered on you.
Many of these individuals will eventually become part of your network and will provide you with the cushion of a support system whenever required.
Social seclusion poses a multiplicity of mental health concerns like depression. When you train/practice BJJ your social life gets a substantial boost. You’re part of a community and you’re made to feel wanted. BJJ academy is a fantastic place to make new and long-lasting friends.
· Enhanced Confidence Level
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu martial arts classes in Houston are much more than rigorous exercise and spending quality time within a community. BJJ is well-accepted as the most operational martial art ever developed and it helps to cultivate skills to defend yourself if you ever require to. After mastering some skills and acquiring a few rudimentary self-defense techniques, obviously, you’ll move around with less unease and more confidence. Of course, you’ll feel less vulnerable while with strangers.
Also, you’ll feel more confident anytime you earn a new belt or master a difficult move. The more you practice BJJ, the sharper you’ll get at it, and this, in turn, will make you more confident in every facet of your everyday life.
· Identity, Purpose, and Calling
Practicing BJJ offers you a drive and sense of purpose as you rise higher and higher through the ranks. You’re much more than just a salaried individual or a mere businessman. You’re genuinely driven and carry a burning passion within your heart to excel at things.
BJJ also offers you various other things to aim for like - winning your local BJJ tournament, earning a new belt, or getting a job as an assistant coach, and more. You’ll start drawing references from BJJ in other aspects of your life too.
· Instills a Healthy Lifestyle
If you go beyond just regular exercise and a sense of belonging, general healthy habits matter as these are key to long-term mental well-being.
Healthy habits like - consuming a healthy diet, drinking ample water, getting a good night’s sleep, and dealing with stress successfully are crucial for keeping you well-balanced and psychologically and emotionally healthy through the various stages of life.
It’s a known fact that healthy living and BJJ training go simultaneously. While recovering from BJJ training sessions you cannot afford to weather an unwholesome diet and wayward lifestyle.
If you’re addicted to BJJ, it becomes a necessity to stay disciplined and healthy.
Once you get into the mode of leading a healthy lifestyle for BJJ, you will notice enhancements to your mental health also.
Conclusion
Learning and practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at martial arts class in Houston offers you many benefits and those are hard to explain. These benefits actually vary from individual to individual.
Your psychological health constitutes a major portion of your lives and BJJ has the potential to help you stay mentally fit throughout your life and this, in turn, assists you to traverse through hard-hitting times and take out-of-the-box decisions when required.
