Was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts before moving to Crimson Beech.

Her mother was going through medical school, her father was a trucker so he would be away for days at a time.

When Isa was ten, her mother caught her father having an affair, which lead to a messy divorce and her father remarrying her stepmother.

During the divorce, Isa went to stay with her dad and stepmom during the weekends. They weren't awful people, but she hated them for breaking her family up. While it's childish, I don' think she ever forgives her father, even as she grows older- eventually he gave up trying to be nice and her mom won full custody.

So after all that, Terri was away a lot, having to go through her medical school stuff as well as get jobs to support them, which left Isa to her own devices most of the time. Terri was devastated by the divorce, and used her daughter as a shoulder to cry on when she was home, which is why the MC is kind of parentified by her throughout the series.

Isa was also heartbroken, her own grades slipping. She was top of her class before and now she just.....didn't care, she barely passed any of her classes anymore, and she began drifting away from her friends due to all her responsibilities at home.

They had to move to a whole other part of the city shortly after this, as Terri had finally graduated and gotten a job as a medical examiner. This meant a whole new thing to get used to for her kid.

Her mom was busy a lot, and as she got older, she began to cook, clean, do laundry, and so on and so forth, two of her hobbies include reading books (to escape reality) and crocheting.

When high school came around, her mom allowed her to do online schooling in an attempt to get her grades up for college. It worked, but she was isolated from others her age. However, her mom and her grew stronger because of it, as Isa was now home a lot more often so they had time to talk.

And then her mom got fired from her job at the end of her junior year of high school.

She picked up a job babysitting the kids in her apartment building to help pay bills while her mom looked for a new job.

Which is where she found an opening in Crimson Beech, so they packed up and moved, Isa being happy she got to go to a normal school for her senior year of HS.

Relationship HCs:

Truly never had a crush on Gabe, she just understood he would be good for her. He was everything she had ever wanted, able to give her safety and security. But she could never make herself like him in that way, although she cares about him as a friend.

Lowkey though she was annoyed he kept randomly showing up when she was with Cas, even if he thought she was making a bad decision, he had really never heard of personal space.

I imagine her relationship with Cas to be more enemies to lovers. She found him annoying, and she wasn't really Cas' type, she's not edgy at all. But Cas knew that she would be a good gf for Gabe, and wanting to piss him off, he began flirting with her.

When she found out he was a vampire she was actually terrified of him and everyone else who was one, how could she not be like ID MC be so fr.

Her opinions of him started changing when he saved her from Gabe going ballistic in the gym. Naturally she was shocked and wanted to distance herself from Gabe that night, so she picked Cas to walk her home. They wreaked havoc in that little ice cream shop, and that's when it all started. That's when the two start seeing each other in another light.

Despite the fact that I cannot control myself and have to flirt with Cas everytime the option comes up, it's a lot more slowburn than them kissing on the porch after that dabacle.

No matter how many times that everyone warns her to stay away from him, I honestly think they're a better match than Gabe and Isa. Cas shows her how to shirk her responsibilities, he shows her the excitement of being a teenager, things she missed due to her upbringing. On the flip side, she shows him gentleness, and that it's ok to be vulnerable. Their relationship is equal parts exciting and like calming?? idk the word, but period.

Friendship Headcanons:

Gabe and her watch Blades of Light and Shadow together, her favorite character is Aerin.

Besides Gabe, Libby used to be her best friend. It was nice to have a breath of air away from the two boys she usually hung out with, and Libby seemed to put in effort to get to know her.

However, Libby flopped. She didn't understand that perhaps the reason why her best friend was so distant was because she was in a traumatic fire, and while Isa never cuts her out fully, she sees her as selfish in a way, and so, they never really become best friends again.

So her human friends alienated her because they're lovely people, she moves her lunch table to sit with Cas and the Venandis. She hates those guys, but hey, Cas and Seth are ten times the people Margo, Scott, and Val will ever be, so whateves.

Seth becomes her new best friend right then and there, because he's just the sweetest little guy ever.

Everyday for lunch, she brings a grilled cheese, tomato soup, and chips to school. She shares half her sandwich with Seth, because he doesn't deserve to eat nasty school food, and she lets Cas eat her chips because he's ok too.

After Seth dies, she can't bring herself to eat the second half of her sandwich, so she throws it out. It's a waste of food, but Cas doesn't want it, and she hates the other Venandis, they're not worthy of Seth's sandwich.

Despite her being a Venandi, she hangs out with the Clement gang if she's not chiling with Cas. Being a girl's girl, she hates Margo because Margo literally is the least girl's girl ever. Isa's convinced she has never supported a woman in her immortal life ever.

Vampire Headcanons:

She was devastated as soon as she found out she was a vampire, she can't leave Crimson Beech and can't have a future outside of the town, and her future was looking real long. All her hopes and dreams were crushed in an instant.

Was livid at Gabe and Cas for turning her, her anger only rising when the covens went after her again after she saved them. She didn't take it out on them just yet though, she feels bad for harboring this resentment towards them, and tries to act as normal as possible around them.

Probably pukes after drinking blood for the first time, just the thought of it disgusted her so badly.

Despite being a Venandi, she oftentimes doesn't hunt humans with them, and instead drinks blood bags she receives from the Clements.

But she feels bad for depleting the blood supply of the hospital in such a small town, so she goes out and hunts sometimes, even then she only hunts men. Idk if Jennifer's body is in choices canon but she would 100% be obsessed if it was.

After she gets like exiled for the first time with Cas and Gabe, she loses her mind in that cave. All the feelings of being turned bubble to the surface and she starts screaming at them, as she should.

It takes her a while to get used to being a vampire, she doesn't hate herself like Gabe for being one, but yet, she doesn't fully embrace the fact that she is one, it's complicated, there's good and bad to both, as there's good and bad in being a human.

Truly does not care when she gets in trouble with the covens, she's just annoyed at this point.

Bro isn't phased by her powers because that's truly not the weirdest thing that's ever happened to her, and she figures if she got turned without consent, she might as well be the main character vampire, the y/n of vampires if you will.

General Headcanons:

Seems like the mom friend, but that's Gabe. While she is nurturing and loves taking care of people, she also is just a silly little guy.

Speaking of, she gets voted as class clown in the senior superlative thingy.

Had a MASSIVE fat crush on Raleigh Carrera. HUGE. Which explains why she likes cas lmaooooo.

PERSONALITY

✦  Generous v. Stingy: Valeriano is known to host lavish parties, shower his courtiers with luxurious gifts, and donate substantial funds to various social programs in the city. The idea that he’s a generous person is very important to him, and he is often overtaken by emotionally ecstatic fantasies of his own benevolence (for example, if he walks by an orphanage, he may erupt into tears and heartfelt promises to adopt a child). However, his generosity is selective and limited. In other words, no matter how earnest he feels in the moment, the truth is he’s never going to adopt an orphan. He just likes toying with the idea that he might and being praised for it. He only gives gifts to people (or organizations) he expects to reap some benefit from later. The higher the person’s status, the more luxurious the gift, and the more public the generosity. The lower the person’s status, the less likely he is to lift a finger. He is also known to regret his acts of generosity, which, depending on the status of the person/organization involved, can result in him sending someone to retrieve the gift for him. Additionally, on the rare occasions that he does acquiesce to a request from an individual/organization, they can be sure to receive less than what was requested (again, especially if they’re lower in the pecking order). ✦  Reasonable vs. Mercurial: Valeriano is a brilliant man. He is measured, intelligent and precise. Nothing gets by him. His intellectual gifts are matched only by his social intelligence. He has a sixth sense for navigating (and manipulating) other people; he knows whose feet to step on and whose to avoid. This is the secret to his success and the reason he’s managed to stay in power for so long. However, his measured, astute demeanour is underscored by a quick, ferocious temper that lurks just below the surface. If questioned or criticized, Valeriano will explode. He is susceptible to accusations of stinginess and loathes being out-shone. Even the slightest annoyance will make him rage on a bad day. Everyone in his inner circle is terrified of pissing him off, as these outbursts can and do lead to confiscation of land and titles and, in extreme cases, to executions (he famously exiled his own family after his son/daughter criticized him and was rumoured to have been within an inch of having them killed). The court walks on eggshells. ✦  Sensitive vs. Sadistic: Valeriano’s ability to empathize contributes to his success. He is approachable, able to understand emotionally complex situations, and has a gift for putting people at ease. He knows right from wrong, can recognize injustice, and can sympathise with the affected parties. In other words, he has a functioning moral compass. However, he derives satisfaction from seeing and inflicting pain (of being the author of injustice.) He demeans, humiliates, intimidates, bullies and belittles to his heart’s content. In fact, he’s what Kant would call a “radical evil” character: a person who knows the morally correct thing to do but chooses to do the wrong thing. The pleasure Valeriano derives from picking the morally deplorable course of action is heightened by his ability to fully empathize with his victim (is it, therefore, a sort of self-harm, I wonder? An externalized form of self-loathing and catharsis?) His sadistic side has also led him to lead a secret BDSM life, where he sometimes plays the penitent and sometimes the punisher. His intelligence makes him exceptionally gifted at spontaneous degrading speeches. ✦  Charming vs. Insecure: Valeriano is charming and dangerously so. It’s almost impossible not to like him. When he addresses you, he makes you feel that you’re old friends, that you’re in on the joke, that you’ve been in on the joke for years. He has a slightly naughty, boyish smile, even in old age, which is particularly attractive, and he’s always up for a little (relatively) harmless misbehaviour (hallucinogenics, wild parties, etc.). When he’s not giving orders, he trips and fumbles over his words in a disarming and endearing manner. However, behind his confident, socially apt (even vulnerable?) facade, he’s deeply insecure. He can’t stand not being the centre of attention and has a desperate need to feel admired at all times (which is why he is more charming towards younger adults since they’re less likely to have the experience and wherewithal to judge him). The slightest criticism, disagreement, or perceived slight can set him off, which makes working with him very difficult (he has to be the one who initiates conversations around how things might be improved and even then, the speaker has to tread very carefully). Valeriano is also envious, petty, and somewhat paranoid. He likes sycophants, as long as they’re clever about it (if someone tries to suck up to him too obviously, he’ll fuck them over).

AESTHETIC:

✦  Personal Style: A boho maximalist to the core, 90-year-old Valeriano dresses to impress, confound and mesmerize. That means multiple rock-star-style rings on each hand; multiple tattoos, including a tarantula tattoo either on his forearm or hand (I haven't fully decided yet); scarlet, velvet dressing gowns in the morning; an assortment of carved and engraved walking sticks for every purpose (including some NSFW walking sticks which I will not discuss here for reasons lol); oversized, black fur evening coats; an infinitude of embroidered robes of various deep colours (also used as evening coats); designer sunglasses; handmade shoes (particularly, suede & velvet imperial loafers. His favourite pair are red, and almost all of them have red lacquered soles); an assortment of tailored suits (corduroy, velvet, wool); silk and wool scarfs; silk handkerchiefs (which he tucks into his front blazer pocket for added style); multiple shawls, including woollen ruanas; and, white t-shirts for when he's staying home or feeling casual. Basically, cross The Last Lovers Left Alive, Crowley from Good Omens, and Steve Tyler from Aerosmith with David Attenborough, and you're starting to get the vibe. Valeriano is always the best-dressed man in the room, and his signature opulent style serves to reinforce his social status. He's your cool granddad from hell. Think Brambly Hedge... from hell; a cottage core for demons, if you will; stuffed animals in various horrifying poses, carpets layered upon carpets layered upon carpets, tables overflowing with trinkets, an infinitude of ticking contraptions, walls of every colour, paintings depicting torture set alongside pastoral landscapes, etc, etc. Nevertheless, Valeriano wasn't always this way. Like Altaluna, he once preferred sparse environments, only over-decorating specific rooms in his home as 'stage sets' to further his political, social and economic goals. However, with age, his eyesight and hearing have deteriorated significantly; by the time The Sorcerer's Apprentice begins, he barely notices the chaos, or if he notices it, he doesn't notice it enough to be overwhelmed. This doesn't mean that his gifts have been lessened by any means, only that his methods of access have changed slightly (more on this in an upcoming post on the magic system, maybe). ALTALUNA Great-Niece | Ambivalent Love-Hate Dynamic At the novel’s start, Altaluna is a stranger to Valeriano. She’s not her father, so there’s no nasty history to navigate with her (or so he thinks), but she’s still family, which allows him to view her as an extension of himself (abstractly as his legacy). The fact that she’s young and inexperienced plays in her favour because he doesn’t perceive her as a threat. He sees himself in her, loves her and resents her for her youth, for her brilliance, for the fact that she’s here for his power (even if it’s at his invitation). INSPIRATION

✦ Edgar Allan Poe’s Imp of The Perverse: This short story tells the tale of a man gripped by the so-called "imp of the perverse," a self-destructive tendency to do exactly what he shouldn't precisely because he knows he shouldn't do it. A large number of Poe's characters take this tendency to the extreme. Valeriano does so to a lesser degree. Like Poe's characters, he enjoys doing the wrong thing because it's wrong, but, unlike them, he won't put his life or his career at risk to satisfy this urge. So, who ends up suffering from Valeriano's perversity? Easy. Only those people who have the misfortune of being beneath him on the socio-economic ladder i.e. only those incapable of defending themselves against him.  ✦ Logan Roy from Succession (TV): The difference is that Logan doesn’t seem approachable to me, and I’m not sure if he’s capable of empathy. He’s a lot more square than Valeriano, who is, in my opinion, also a more perverse character. Logan is a reptile, but Valeriano is warm-blooded. Once you’ve understood that Logan is utterly incapable of human feeling, you can pretty much see through all his behaviour (as Shiv and her brothers do). That’s not the case with Valeriano, who is sometimes genuinely kind, generous, soft and sympathetic. He is a ‘Jackal and Hyde’ personality. For this reason, he’s far less predictable than Logan. Nonetheless, they’re very alike in other respects; they’re both ruthless, cutthroat, greedy, grandiose, ego-centric master manipulators. ✦ King Lear from the play of that name by Shakespeare (Literature): Like King Lear, Valeriano is facing his death and is slowly losing his mind. Like King Lear, Valeriano has a Cordelia, a young protogé he spurned, then embraced (Altaluna). Unlike King Lear, Valeriano doesn’t experience a complete change of heart because, unlike King Lear, Valeriano is morally perverse.

✦ Joseph Campbell, The Hero with A Thousand Faces: “The figure of the tyrant-monster is known to the mythologies, folk traditions, legends, and even nightmares, of the world; and his characteristics are everywhere essentially the same. He is the hoarder of the general benefit. He is the monster avid for the greedy rights of ‘my and mine.’ The havoc wrought by him is described in mythology and fairy tale as being universal throughout his domain. he uses he/him and is a pansexual, aroflux , transmasc male. the ends of his hair is always damp from his sweat since his hair is neck length. he wears a binder because hes too scared to get top surgery (so me fr). he has to wash his binder like every few hours because it gets soaked with sweat (he has several chat dw and he binds safely :3). the paw on his tanktop is from nepeta, meow painted it on. his shorts are the same lengh as jakes, take that as you will. he and eridan go to shooting ranges together and do target practice. eridan lets him practice with his rifle, and he lets eridan practice with bow. matesprit is eridan and his moirail is nepeta. he uses he/they/honk (yes originial ik...) and is gay, hypersexual, and is ,in his words, "just a dude", but hes not. no one knows what his exact gender but neither does he. his clothes are stained with sopor and faygo. his horns are darker from how dark his hive his, the only lights in it are LED coloured ones and lights from screens. his eyes are more red than normal, from lack of light and the drugs, but they arnt as red as his sober eyes. he makes theory videos and posts them to his youtube channle. they mostly consist of him ranting about stuff thats not even related to the theory and eating sopor slime. once he started off talking about the mirthfull messiahs, and it turned into a cooking tutorial. they once got sopor slime pie stuck in their hair and karkat broke 2 brushes while getting it out for over 4 hours. they mostly go to karkats hive to hang out because of how messy theirs is, and leaves karkats hive a mess aswell. he mostly drinks the red faygo but lets just say uhhh it might not all be faygo that stained his shirt... his matesprit is karkat, his moirail is tavros, and he has a black crush on eridan

he uses he/she and is bisexual and transfem/genderfluid (bicon). he hangs out with cronus occasionally because cronus views him as a younger brother/sister because of his want to be human and human relationships. royal bloods are traditionally very tall, but she has a growth stunt to where she wont grow much more than she already is, cronus teases her about this. his "hang out place" is the trolls verison of the titanic wreckage, for his first attemt to swoon feferi he took her there on an unoffical "date". she rejected him there, because of that whenever he goes there all he can think about was what he did wrong with her. he also goes there to study his history textbooks, he pretty much has all the hisctory of its wreckage memorized (just like me fr...) she gives sollux peices of seaglasses she finds when cleaning up the beaches, because of this he has a shelf in his hive dedicated to this collection. he can play the pipe organ. each of her rings represents a failed relationship (emo ahh). his matesprit is equius, his moirail is karkat, and his kismesis is sollux.

he uses he/him and is a cis guy (just is slightly feminine) he is mlm/gay. he loves fairycore and his favourite dog breed is a golden retriver (speficially the human version dave showed him, not alternian.) his robot legs will occasionslly malfcution, causing them to either get locked in place, squeak loudly, or get sticky joints. dave constantly has to call dirk over to fix his legs. his matesprit is dave, moirail is gamzee, and he has a black crush on gamzee (not very "black" though, mostly a "i can fix him" mentality but it ends up being "i can fix him but itll make me worse in the prossess) type stuff. its a pale leaning black thing.

Sollux Captor

he uses they/he/she and is bisexual and bigender (original i know but its kinda funny concidering my headmate with a sollux source is bisexual and bigender so im stealing that). hes emo and has a johnnie guilbert shrine in his hive he swears is ironic. he is colour blind (blue colour blindess specifically) so he sees voilet/purple as a ugly brown thats why he calls eridan ugly so much. he plays the synthesizer. hes double jointed and likes to gross his friends out with it. his shoes were orignially both white but he lost the second one but was too lazy to find it so he just wears the same brand shoe but different colours. theyre vans shoes. his matesprit is aradia , his moirail is dave , his kismesis is eridan , and his auspistice is karkat.

Karkat Vantas

he uses they/he, theyre nonbinary / transmasculine (has top scars and is technially transmasc but is also nonbinary i dont know if im saying this right) and is unlabeled for sexuality (they kiss guys but is unlabeled take with that what you will) they are punk even if they dont particualerly dress like it. their sweatpants are too big and their sweater is too small / tight so theyre a small gap of stomach showing. he purrs when happy, sleepy, or comfortable. when he gets scared their voice cracks and squeaks. when theyre alone listening to music in their hive hell jump around bouncing off stuff pretending to play the guitar and screaming / singing at the top of his lungs to the song. his matesprit is gamzee, his moirial is eridan, his kismesis is dave, and they aupistice for eridan and sollux.

Nepeta Lejion

she uses she/meow and is girlflux, catgender (original i know), grey romantic, and asexual. when she paints on her shipping wall she tends to get paint all over her and it has since stained her jacket. she has had her hat since she was very little and its very streched out and worn. same with her tail as its not part of her, it drags on the ground behind her and gets dirt, sticks and leaves caught in it most of the time. she likes to play the xylophone, read warrior cats, and play animal jam with equius. she purrs when she his happy / sleepy / comfy like karkat. her matesprit is feferi and her moirail is equius.

alright i've seen arcane twice through now, here are my opinion patch notes:

jayce is hilarious i can't believe fandom hates him so much lmao... arcane boldly asks, what if steve rogers shot a child, and i think that's very fun and sexy of them

fr though i do think jayce is one of the more interesting characters precisely because he's -- well partly because i feel like he realized he's bisexual two days ago and is making it everyone's problem, which is already great. but also because watching the square-jawed hero complex guy make a series of terrible decisions and go mad with power is a satisfying thing to witness. the story seems very aware jayce is doing a bunch of fucked up stuff, and i appreciate that. unhinged bisexual rights

i was also more into the political drama once i was following it closer. i think it's handled with relative subtlety most of the time and i like that! i hope it stays that way in s2, please god. also how tf does the council work, are people appointed? i guess? based on status/wealth? it certainly doesn't seem to be a democracy.

also i love ambessa. can't wait to see more of her.

i feel like mel's writing is... kind of underbaked. her words and her actions don't always correspond (eg "i've never been able to give back!" says the single richest person in a city with severe wealth disparity who has been in political power for a decade). i don't say any of this to drag mel, because i'm very interested in who i think she is/could be, but i find it hard to decipher if this is nuanced writing or just the story not really knowing what it's doing with her -- i guess we'll see what s2 does. i'm still pretty confident she'll survive the finale, not so much because i think she'll survive the entire show (doubtful imo) but because i think if they're going to kill mel she'll get a solo death episode and the finale/fallout of jinx's bomb has too much else going on. fingers crossed anyway, lol, i think it'd be shitty if she's just dead now before they did much with her

i understand like 25% more of what happened with viktor and happy fun ball but ... still not a lot. lmao. i don't mind them keeping it vague i guess but i hope future sequences are less outright confusing to me. why did it eat sky? why did it change his hand? was that on purpose? we never saw him having issues with his hand, right? who knows.

still love that dinner scene with jinx/silco/vi. as i was watching with @firstofoctober i was saying how great it is that everyone in the scene is saying stuff they genuinely believe even if that stuff isn't factually true. i know there's Discourse over how genuine silco was being but i really do think all evidence points to him meaning it/believing what he's saying, even if *we* know vi isn't going to betray powder, etc. likewise vi obviously means it when she says she loves jinx and they're still sisters etc... but i really don't think she has a proper grasp of who jinx is now, she's projecting baby powder and expecting she can flip a switch. it's good and sad and i like it a lot.

and my least popular opinion: caitlyn i just... i tried man. i dunno. i mean she's nice and stuff... katie leung is funny sometimes. i just feel like she is so uncomplicated compared to literally every other character, with the least compelling arc. and i think the story treats her with real kiddie gloves too, which i find grating. everyone else fucks up and makes mistakes and is punished narratively for it, but caitlyn is always right bc she is a nice good cop. okay. whatever.

For me i use bisexual because ive been through hell with that term. I came out as bi about 6 years ago and my mom lectured me for 2 hours over how i was sinning and gonna go to hell and all that bullshit and even convinced my dad to be mad out me ( they were both drunk and forgot i even came out so I just went back in the closet. They were the only two i came out too) so i last yeat I came out again as bi and it has went way better. My mom has grown and learned to be more accepting (she still has work to do but she is actually trying and has even offered to take me to pride which shocked me because i didnt think she was that cool with it) my dad makes dad jokes about and laughs whenever i make a stupid joke involving being bi. The rest of my family knows too and the only one who doesnt accept is my grandmas sister but she isnt that important and her acceptance doesnt matter. It wasnt until a few months ago that soemone said pan fit me better and yeah it probably(idk if i spelt that right it looks weird to me) does but me and the term bisexual ive been on a journey together and i feel so fucking proud when im around somd asshole and they over hear me talking about a girl I have a crush on and they are like "oh so your a lesbian. Did you even give boys a chance? (Legit had someone say this to me and my mom was like stay calm and i was like tf) anywas when they said that i went " ive had a bf before he ended up dating my best friend (ex bff)" them "oh so what you dated one and decided they were all terrible and went lesbian" me "im actually bisexual so no i didnt just give up on boys". Anyways I feel proud when i declare im bisexual idk its just so empowering to finally be able to say it and not worry about how my parents are gonna react and to just say it out loud is amazing. When i came out the first time it was hell and afterwards i had to listen to some bullshit until they changed and i was finally able to come out again and it felt so good to have my dad make a joke on how i couldve came out to everyone. Also this is my first time going to pride and being out. (I sent once with my aunt when i was really little and didnt understand anything or know what i was) and i fr lowkey feel like crying because im supposed to be going this year and on top of that my mom is gonna go with me to show support like idk its so amazing to me. So yeah sometimes there might be a term that fits someone but its their sexuality and they get to say what makes them feel comfortable. Obviously i love my pansexaul siblings in the LGBTQ+ community but bisexual was what i held onto when i had to listen to my mom be hateful. I held onto that term telling myself one day I was gonna come out and be happy and proud and not have to be scared my mom was gonna kick me out or scared she would talk shit with my other aunt. I told myself i was gonna come out as a loud and proud bisexual and now i have people telling me that it would be better to call myself pansexaul like excuse you but this is my sexuality and this is the term i had a journey with and now im gonna wear it proudly. Like i said ive been to hell with this term and i love all the other sexual identities but this is my term and im not gonna give it up based on someone elses opinions. Im bisexual and proud.

Sorry if this was way too long and confusing. I just wanted to share why i use bisexual over everything else. Saying im bisexual makes me happy and its comforting everytime i say it out loud.
