Happy birthday! Can we get some birthday trivia about you on your birthday?
Sure. I turn 56 today, so here’s fifty-six things you may or may not know about me.
1) I never lost a baby tooth. Every one had to be extracted.
2) I was once a contestant on Trivial Pursuit: The Game Show with Wink Martindale. I answered the most questions correct, but didn’t win.
3) I once had scarlet fever (the thing the boy gets in the Velveteen Rabbit).
4) I’ve been told by doctors I have very weird blood.
5) I self taught myself to juggle.
6) I was a magician when I was a kid with the stage name The Wiz Kid. I mostly performed for kids parties.
7) I was once a freelance greeting card writer. My favorite (that didn’t get printed) showed a jug of maple syrup tipped on its side making a puddle of syrup. In the syrup was a top hat. A hand is pulling a can of green paint with a shamrock out of the hat. You open up the card and it says Sappy Paint Hat Tricks Day. It’s a triple Spoonerism.
8) Sara Gilbert (of “Roseanne” fame) and I once went out for lunch. (It wasn’t a date or anything.)
9) I broke my collarbone doing a prat fall off a stage.
10) I once pet a cheetah. In South Africa. My face from the picture of me doing that was used as my “Making Magic” photo for years.
11) I once made a root beer float for Keanu Reeves. It was at a play I was volunteering for.
12) I once get trapped inside Fred Astaire’s Estate. This factoid is oddly on my Wikipedia page.
13) Starting during the pandemic, my family began fostering animals. So far, we fostered four dogs, six cats, and two Guinea pigs.
14) In college, I wrote and directed two plays, started an improvisation troupe, and a writing workshop.
15) I still have all my wisdom teeth.
16) I have visited every continent except Antarctica for Magic.
17) I once asked Clint Eastwood for directions, not realizing who it was until he started talking. I was lost on the Warner Brothers lot.
18) My first job in Hollywood resulted from me taking part in someone else’s interview. I snuck on the lot, and ended walking into a room where they asked “Are you here for the production assistant interview?”, and I said, “Yes.”
19) I once had a disease the doctors couldn’t identify. They called it Mark’s Disease.
20) I was born in Mississippi. My dad was in the Air Force at the time.
21) I asked out seven woman to my senior prom who all turned me down. I ended up going with a friend who also couldn’t get a date.
22) I took six years of Spanish.
23) Most of my family’s vacations growing up were ski vacations, so I’m a decent skier.
24) I once delivered a pizza to Richard Gere. It was as a production assistant, not a pizza delivery person.
25) I once broke into an actor’s apartment building to deliver a script. It was so late, they were asleep and didn’t hear the buzzing of the door bell.
26) I once drove six hours (three in each direction) to pick up one five-stick package of Blackjack gum as a runner (production assistant).
27) Dennis Miller once thought I was a crazy man. I was sent to get him from the parking lot for a shoot and he thought I was stalking him.
28) I have over two hundred tee-shirts. They are organized by color.
29) I was supposed to pitch to “The Simpsons”, but it got cancelled when I got hired in the “Roseanne” staff.
30) I pitched multiple times to “Star Trek: The Next Generation”, but never sold a script. The closest I got was a pitch about Data malfunctioning.
31) I once ate crocodile. In Australia.
32) I played the Tinman in fifth grade in a production of “The Wizard of the Oz”. I was so hot, my silver make-up had to be reapplied halfway through as I sweated it off.
33) My mother turned down being on “Oprah” to come to my college graduation.
34) My parents are both retired. My dad was a dentist and my mom a psychologist. I used to joke I had a “paradox”.
35) Every birthday since I was 9, I’ve celebrated my birthday with crab legs.
36) Since I was in grade school, every Valentine’s Day, I hand out candy hearts, and every Halloween, I hand out mellowcreme pumpkins (basically pumpkin shaped candy corns).
37) My tee-shirts every week are themed. Some themes are pretty obvious, but they often get tricky. R&D likes figuring out the theme.
38) I got a BS in Communications (no, really) from Boston University’s College of Communications.
39) I collect superhero Minimates (they look Lego-ish). I have somewhere around two thousand. They are displayed in a number of cabinets built by my dad.
40) My podcast was inspired by a talk by Kevin Smith (at San Diego Comic-Con) where he said anyone could make a podcast.
41) I have attended over twenty-five San Diego Comic-Cons.
42) I am related to Lorne Green of “Bonanza” fame.
43) My dad’s family came from Germany and my mom’s from Russia. In Germany, my family’s name was Rosenvasser, but it was changed to Rosewater when they came to the U.S.
44) There are so few Rosewaters in the United States, that if you meet a Rosewater odds are I’m related to them.
45) I have lived in five states (Mississippi, Ohio, Massachusetts, California, and Washington, in that order).
46) I have visited over thirty states for Magic.
47) I once met Jim Henson when I worked on a clip show that Kermit was on. The question I asked him was if Ernie and Bert were named after the characters from “It’s a Wonderful Life”. He said not consciously. Jim Henson is one of my idols and I feel so blessed to have met him. He died a few months later.
48) I met Stan Lee at Hascon. He is another of my idols that I feel so lucky to have met.
49) On “Roseanne”, I worked with Amy Sherman-Palladino (just Amy Sherman back then) and Chuck Lorre. She made “Gilmore Girls” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”. He made “Big Bang Theory” and “Two and a Half Men”. Amy was super sweet and we got along well. I don’t think Chuck liked me.
50) I am a super picky eater. For example, except for apples, I don’t eat fruit. I hate bananas with a passion.
51) I have been a game player since very young. My dad loves games and introduced them to me early in life.
52) I get the writing bug from my mom.
53) I used to collect lint in a giant jar. When I got married, Lora made me get rid of it. It was an impressive amount of lint.
54) I have a bad tendency to burn myself a lot. My family loves to make fun of it.
55) I own over fifty flannels. My favorites are from Japan because they are more colorful with their flannels. Normally I wear a large, but in Japanese sizes, I’m an extra large.
56) My favorite number is 254. I chose it when I was little.

With the ability to personalize messages, add photos, and even incorporate the recipient's name into the animation, these digital creations feel uniquely tailored to the individual, elevating the birthday experience to new heights.
But perhaps the most significant advantage of animated birthday greetings is their ability to evoke genuine emotions and spread joy in a way that transcends physical distance. In today's fast-paced world, where loved ones may be scattered across the globe, these digital delights serve as a powerful reminder of the bonds that connect us, bridging the gap between miles with a virtual hug and a smile.

Worlds Change When Eyes Meet - Joseph Quinn x Reader
I decided to share the first part of a story I wrote a while back of Joe x reader. Tysm for all your love & support! I'm overwhelmed
Summary: It's time for the London & Film Comic Con, you're surprising your niece for her birthday by taking her to meet & greet with Joseph Quinn. It doesn't turn out to be just a meet. Is this love at first sight for you both? Or is it all just some stupid crush.
Warnings: None, all major fluff.
Word Count: 3.9k
Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3
It's 7am, your alarm is loud, and you wake up in a state of panic just like you do every morning. This morning was different though, tomorrow you're taking your niece to the London & Film Comic Con (LFCC) where you've purchased to meet and greet with Joseph Quinn, the infamous actor who starred as Eddie Munson in Stranger Things. You yourself don't really get the hype on the show, but you know your niece adores it and adores Eddie. 'I cannot wait to see her little face beam when I hand her these tickets' you thought, your smile crossing from ear to ear.
A shower, a bite of toast and half a cup of coffee later, you dash out of your house, into your car and drive to your sister's home. You pull up outside and out runs your niece. "HELLO Y/N". You barely get out of your car before she jumps for you and gives you a huge hug. "Happy birthday, sweetie!" You squeal, matching her energy. "My mum says you've got something for me!" Your niece pulls you and you sit straight down on the sofa. "Well… oh come on Y/N, what is it?!" your niece cries with anticipation. You pull out the piece of paper with the tickets on and a card, you hand your niece the card first. She rips it open barely leaving any envelope salvageable. Your niece examines it carefully "Happy… Birthday, I hope… you enjoy… your… surprise!" She looks back up you puzzled; with that you hand her the paper. 'LONDON & FILM COMIC CON 2022. Meet & Greet Stranger Things' Joseph Quinn! Photo Op included. x2 admission'. She double takes the piece of paper. "Joseph…" she takes another minute, the penny drops. "EDDIE MUNSON THE REAL ONE". You burst into laughter. "The actor who plays Eddie." Your niece runs through the house squealing with excitement. "Tomorrow?!" she asked quickly. "Tomorrow!" you reply. Your niece goes to find your sister as her excited screeches echo all over the house.
Hundreds of people, lots of different stalls, excited faces all around ready to meet with the celebrities' present as you enter the Con. You come across a stall selling cute little figurines also known as funko pops. "Y/N, do you think they have an Eddie one?" your nieces' eyes wide with excitement. After 5 minutes of looking through half of them you spot one. "Here! Go give that nice man this and we'll pay for it." you say. Your niece takes the box and the money from you and hands it to the man working at the stall. "I wonder if Eddie will sign it" she says excitedly. "Remember his names Joseph, sweetie." A few hours pass and it's almost time to line up to meet him. You sit against a wall waiting when you hear a little shriek. "IS THAT HIM?" your niece squeezes your arm. "I think so." you look straight at him as he walks on by, just as you look, Joseph makes eye contact with you, but it's not just a general stare, it's like he knows you, like he's staring right into your soul. You blush a little. Your niece is still squeezing your arm as she starts to get really excited. "Wow, he's gorgeous" you say, thinking out loud. "Y/N loves Eddie!" Oops. Your stare breaks, he turns to look back but you're too busy furrowing your brow at your niece. "Don't be silly, come on let's go line up!" you shake yourself off, let out a big sigh and gather your thoughts. It's almost time.
You look down beside you, you don't think my niece could hold her excitement in any longer. You're not far from the front now to meet him, as you keep going along you keep peering through people, your eyes wandering along staring directly at Joseph. "NEXT" shouted a women stood looking angrily behind him. Your niece goes skipping over and Joseph opens his arms straight to her. "Hey there, how are you?" he said calmly, your niece wraps herself round him. "Hi Eddie! I love you in stranger things, my auntie bought me this from over there and I was wondering if you would sign it?" She jumps up and down clapping her hands. "Of course, I will!" He takes his red marker, signs the front of the box and looks up to you. "Hello, how are you?" Your eyes gaze upon his, Joseph gives you that same stare he did earlier on today. You just smile and nod at him. You feel your cheeks going a crimson red. Shortly after, the women ushers you along you walk away. Turning back to look at him, as you do, he's still looking right at you, he lets a little half smile and continues to focus on the next guest. "I get to see Eddie again; we've got a picture with him haven't we Y/N? I can't believe he signed this and gave me a hug; he was so nice." Your niece chatters on and on and on, you're just in your own world, daydreaming of that stare, those deep brown eyes looking straight into yours. Why did you feel so good about it? "Y/N!" You break out of the dreamy spell. "So sorry sweet pea! Let's go get some food and then we'll line up for the photo with him." You smile, you almost couldn't wait to see Joseph again. Why are you longing to see him again, you barely know him. A couple of hours pass, and you line up, as you get to the front, Joseph notices you straight away. Your niece goes running over as you stand to the side to let her have a photo with him. "Oh, hello it's you again!" he exclaims happily. "Can we pose like Eddie?" She giggled, putting her fingers up to her head and sticking her tongue out. Joseph laughs "of course!". They both look to you; "Come on it's your turn!" your niece hollers for you to stand in position with Joseph. You walk over staring intensely yet again. "Hello." You smile sweetly at Joseph, his smile beams right back at you as he faces the camera and puts his arm round your shoulder, you reciprocate by putting your arm round the back, resting your hand on his waist. You both smile. Your niece cheers "Thank you Eddie!" you chuckle and roll your eyes, looking straight back at him. "Thank you, Joseph, it means a lot to her." He puts his hand to his heart as his eyes break your stare and turn to your niece "you're welcome, sweetheart." He turns back and nods at you, looking both happy to see you here and sad to see you walk away. 'What an intense day it has been' you think. "Y/N I had so much fun, thank you, thank you, thank you!" Your niece shouts as she clutches her photo of her & Joseph and her signed funko pop. "BEST. DAY. EVER!" You giggle. You look down at your photo as you feel a rush of warmth shivering through your body. What was it about him?
It's a long wait for the way back so you find a local shop right near and buy some chocolate and a drink and sit on a brick wall towards the back of the Comic Con event. Chatting away, you hear a few male voices laughing quite loudly around the corner. Suddenly you see him. You can't help but stare, your niece looks to the side of you wondering what you're looking at. "Oh my god Eddie!" she shouts. The laughter stops, Joseph turns around and spots you both. He symbols two fingers to give him a second at the men and slowly starts to walk over. You turn back round to your niece as if you didn't see him and she goes all giddy next to you. Just as you're not looking you hear an oh to familiar voice behind you; "We just keep bumping into one another, don't we?" You let out a massive breath. How after all of the thousands of people he'd met today, how did he recognise you? The wall you were sat on felt like it was sinking beneath you. "Are you there?" He asks, a small smirk appearing. You shake yourself off, look down and back to him. "Sorry, yeah must be in my own world." you reply quietly. Your niece points to the bar of chocolate melting under the sun and then points back. "Eddie, do you want some?" she lets out a huge grin. His smile remains. "I would love some, are you sure that's ok?" He looks back to you. You nod instantly.
As he takes a piece and then bites into it. God, he looks good. "Good choice!" He winks at your niece. Why in the world are you sat before him, wondering what it would be like to spend 5 minutes just alone with him? You don't even know the guy, plus you've never even watched the show. You know his name, you tried to understand the story, you knew the hold he clearly had on his fans, yet here he was, stood before you and you couldn't help but lap every part of him up. "Everything ok?" He interrupts. "Fine." You smile. Your niece waving her hands about shouts above you both "Eddie, can I tell you a secret?" She holds her hand over her mouth and gestures for him to come closer. You look at her puzzled. She whispers into his ear, covering her hand so you can't see. "My auntie thinks you're gorgeous." He stands back with his mouth wide open but still a small smile appears. "Oh, she does, does she?" He turns his brown darkened eyes towards you. "Well, you can tell your auntie this." He leans back to your niece, using the same gesture as she did. "I think she's quite beautiful too." He sends another nod to her as he leans back and sniggers. "He said you're beautiful." Your eyes widen at your niece's face. "What? I…" They both catch you off guard and fall into hysterics.
Your face is now crimson red. "What did you tell him?" You peer at your niece whilst she's laughing away. "What you told me." Joseph unfolds his arms. "You think I'm gorgeous, I'm simply just letting you know what I think." He turns to look back at the men gesturing him to come back. "Better dash ladies." He opens his arms for your niece to give him a hug, she happily obliged. "Before I go, there's just one thing I need" he pulls his phone out, unlocks it and passes it to you with the open keypad of 'new contact.' You look at him confused. You don't exactly know what to say at this point, is this real? You wouldn't normally sit there giving random guys your phone number. "Well, just in case, I'm sorry I don't usually do this, what was your name?" … "Y/N" your niece states excitedly. "Yeah Y/N, just in case, pretty name for a pretty face." You look at him longingly under your eyelashes, look back and tap your number into his phone and pass it back. Joseph gets shouted over by the men again. "See you soon?" He smiles at you, his eyes softer this time, letting out a short breath. He fist bumps at your niece and walks away.
"What just happened here?" You say, thinking out loud. "Eddies going to fall in love with you and you're going to get married and be Mrs Munson!" She states with such confidence shoving the last piece of chocolate into her mouth, scrunching her nose at you. You pull her to your side giving her a sarcastic squeeze. "Don't be saying such silly things, come on we're going to miss our train home." You look over to the corner where you heard the men laughing before this crazy situation erupted. In your head you thought 'this'll never happen, he will forget me in a second.' You couldn't help but imagine those deep, gorgeous brown eyes and that full smile looking right at you adoringly. "You were right, lovely. Best. Day. Ever." You day calmly. Your niece skips along by your side grinning from ear to ear. It's midnight. You arrive back to your house, pondering and daydreaming of all of the events that occurred. You sort yourself out, change into your night clothes and put your phone onto your nightstand. Walking away to take off your make up. PING! Your phone lights up. You ignore it. PING! Another? It's probably your niece still wide awake excited. You walk on over and pick up your phone. There are two texts from an unknown number.
The first text read:
'Well, it was really good to meet you today, you and your niece, several times :)'
You read the message over and over and then waste no time in looking down to the second message:
'Oh, its Joe by the way, I meant what I said, you really are something.'
Your eyes scan over the texts for what seems a million and one times. You question if it's someone playing a trick on you several times over or whether or not to reply. You type so many different messages, backspacing each time. For the first time in your life, you're speechless. He text you, Joseph actually messaged you. You felt like you were fangirling and for what? You don't even watch the show. There was just something about him, you just didn't know what it was. Good looking? Yes. You fully got why so many girls were obsessed, but why you? Why was it you? 'Oh my god Y/N, just send a message.' you think as you roll your eyes at yourself. You sit at the edge of your bed, it's nearing 1am, that's how long you've been staring down at these 2 messages. 'Oh hello, well wasn't so bad meeting you either, my niece loved every second, thank you for being so lovely!' You hit send, throw your phone to the other side of the bed and shove your face down onto the pillow. You could scream. Another million thoughts processing in your mind, you decided to just sleep on it, there was no other option.
PING!
Your face lights up as you grab your phone like some teenager dying to get a message back from their crush. 'I'm glad I could make it great, pretty girl. How's about a text tomorrow? I'm exhausted :) sweet dreams, love.'
Your face turns the crimson red it felt just a few short hours ago when he was staring at you. Jesus Christ. What in the world is going on? You squeal. You contemplate on replying but you decide to sleep, and you'll leave it till tomorrow, after all the poor guys exhausted.
Thank goodness for no alarm today. You face straight to your phone. No text, oh. Maybe it's because you didn't reply before. "Morning, Joseph. Texted as promised :)"
A few short seconds later…PING!
'Oh, I was beginning to think you'd ghosted me, good morning pretty face, you can call me Joe!'
You spent the whole morning messaging back and forth. He let you know that he had the second day of the comic con today and that he would be busy but would message you as soon as he could. You had so much to talk about, it's like you already knew each other. In such a short space of time, you already knew you had to see him again. Sat aimlessly scrolling through TikTok like you did every other day, who should pop up but a video of Joe, some of the photos of the day before he'd had with other fans. You paused the video every single time another photo came up. You quickly moved to your bag to find the picture of you both that your niece had made you have; you were so very glad you did. 'You are bloody gorgeous Mr Quinn' you think to yourself. Putting your finger to your mouth with a little smile appearing, growing more each time. There was no question you were following suit of the girls besotted by him. 'I need to calm down' you tried to put it to the back of your head whilst you got on with your house chores for the day.
PING! There's no way of ignoring these tones today.
'Y/N, do me a favour and let me see you again, for a drink or something maybe? Let me know what you think!'
You let out a little squeal. 'Hmm I suppose I'll let you. When were you thinking, Joe?' You grin at yourself with your flirtatious reply, truly proud of yourself although you don't want to give too much away too soon. 'Tomorrow too quick? If you're not busy I'll make my way to you. Fancy my chances in getting to know you better, love.' WOW. Falling back onto the sofa, you kick your legs around in the air. Holy shit. 'Tomorrow it is. I'll text you, my address.' You hit send, you're shaking, and you feel like your face is about to overheat. 'I'm looking forward to it, you're definitely something to be excited about.'
Your eyes are clock watching. You can't help but sit there internally screaming as the time grew nearer, will Joe actually show up? Nail biting anxiety leads to mind blowing excitement and the spiral continues until you force yourself up to get ready. You'd planned for 6pm and 6pm had never seemed such a beautiful time. You didn't want to go out anywhere and risk being seen together this early on, due to the new rising stars ever growing fan base so you had arranged for him to come over to yours and have some food and drinks. Your house had never looked so pristine, everything had its place. All for him. PING! 'On my way, I'll see you soon love.' When is soon? Your mind went into overdrive. You had put your best outfit on, minimal hair and makeup but just enough to make yourself look somewhat admirable. You sit staring through your flat window, sure enough minutes later, you see lights, a car pulls in and you screech removing yourself from the window, so you don't look a desperate moron. You had been texting all the previous day, counting down the hours, you hold your phone up scrolling through every single message grinning. You get quickly swat down to reality when your phone starts to ring. "H-Hello?" You clear your throat to stop broadcasting your nerves. "Hey, love. I'm here, come out and meet me?" you can feel his smile through the phone. "Coming, won't be a second!" you end the call. Stood in one spot frozen looking into the mirror rearranging yourself.
Slowly making your way out, there he is. He's looking more relaxed than when you saw him last. He's got blue jeans on with trainers and a white shirt that's slightly opened at the top, his hair curls perfectly and his stance against his car makes you want to just throw your arms around him and hold on, the chain dangling from his neck, you scan every inch of this man. Seconds feel like minutes. You wave him over and he locks his car and hastily speeds towards you through the door.
"Hello, you." he smiles as you lead him through the hallway to your door. "Hello, you." you mimic him. He grins back at you as you walk through the front door. Watching him scan the place, you just stare in utter awe, just thinking how lucky you are to have him here. "Nice place!" his eyes catch yours and you snap yourself out of your gaze and go over to the sofa, patting next to you. Joe does as he's told and sits next to you. "Hungry?" you mumble. "Always, love. You look beautiful by the way". You instantly blush and he notices, he lets out a little giggle at you. "Thank you, I must admit I didn't try to." you lie through your teeth, what an absolute liar. You tried hard. "If this isn't trying then I'd love to see what is!" He grins as his tongue sticks through his teeth. "Pretty handsome yourself, Quinn." He blushed. So, it's not just you who gets nervous, a quick celebratory fist in the air in your mind. You order in Chinese, your absolute favourite. You talk about your lives, you giggle like teenagers, and you drink enough wine to last you a while. "So, you've never actually seen Stranger things?" he smirks. "Nope. It was my niece I brought to meet you." You smiled slightly embarrassed. "That explains it then…" Joe trails off looking in the opposite direction. "What?" … "How I see that you are just here, for me. Not for newfound Joesph Quinn and my big break through, you... want… me." he gazed into your eyes lovingly. "I do want you." you looked at him through your eye lashes, biting down on your bottom lip, this is something you tended to do when you were nervous. He locks his gaze straight to you biting your lip and averts between them and your eyes. He brings the palm of his hand to stroke your jaw line. "I want you too. I honestly feel like I've known you forever Y/N." Joe is at least a couple of inches from your face, you can feel his breath. You inhale deeply as the smell of him hits your nostrils, you shiver uncontrollably, it's sensational.
"Tell me again." Joe's eyes become darkened "That I've wanted you since I clocked eyes with you? That you're something that only girls dream about and I'm the lucky one you wanted to see? I don't know you as 'celeb Joe' but I will very much be finding out what the hypes about. I want you, Mr Quinn." He pushes his face back and beams from ear to ear. "Oh Y/N, I don't know if I'm going to be able to stop myself." your brows furrowed. You don't as much get a word in when Joes lips come crashing onto yours, kissing you into a deep almighty abyss that is heaven. He's a bloody good kisser. You finally break it and bite your lip again as he pulls himself away. "Stop biting that lip or I'll have to bite it for you." He smirks. "Can you do what you just did again? But instead… all night long?" You mumbled. "Your communication is rather sexy Y/N, I suppose I'll grant you your wish." He stands up offering you his hand, you grab into it as he hoists you up and takes one arm round your waist. "I've never been so glad about anyone so quickly, love. I'm so excited about you." He plants a kiss on your forehead which lingers on you for seconds. Walking into your bedroom, Joe notices something straight away. He picks the photograph of you both off of your nightstand that's propped up by your lamp. "Love at first sight." He muttered to himself. But you heard him, oh my god you heard him good. There he was, stood by your bed, ready to spend the night giving you the endless kisses you solely desired. "Love at first sight." You smiled in awe. He turns to you with shiny puppy dog eyes. "Come here, love. Let's make this a night to remember, god knows it already is."

I’m getting emotional now thinking back on that day. My little brother was with me- this was technically *his* concert; I bought the Iron Maiden tickets as an early birthday gift for him because I’m an impossibly generous sibling but also yes because Ghost was opening the show. He dropped me off at the Sprint Center and went to find parking. I sat all alone in the Ghost VIP like and chatted with like 25 people in the Iron Maiden Fan Club VIP line. It was hot as hell so as soon as my brother found me I was like “I gotta go back to the hotel and change.”
Iwent from my black Fright Rags Papa III shirt to a plain white T with a big red anatomical heart diagram on it. I felt like I’d be out of place in blue jeans and a white T but whaddya gonna do. More Ghost fans eventually trickled in, including that amazing Papa III cosplayer from Instagram. We got into the Sprint Center after the Maiden group- they got to do this “rush the barrier” thing that just seemed dangerous?- and got our VIP swag which included that fucking Ouija board. My brother managed to stuff his into the drawstring bag and held it on his foream, declaring he had made a battering ram to keep me safe. Aww.
We were led down halls and stairs. I think our Meet and Greet was in a repurposed post-sport-event interview room. Inside the room we lined up single file and my brother kept me from jumping to the back of the line, telling me my anxiety would only get worse the longer I waited.
I was tenth in line, holding an old Halloween greeting card with cats on it, in which I had scribbled a thanks to Papa and the Ghouls for being here (in the existential sense, not in the “thanks for coming to shitty Missouri“ sense). I handed the card off to an assistant who assured me it would be “placed on Papa’s altar.”
Then it was my turn in the photo tent. And I froze.
Papa III spread his arms, his chasuble giving him black wings, his gold claws glinting in the light as he beckoned me. “Come in, come on in!” he said. I didn’t. I couldn’t move.
Papa folded his wings, clasped his claws together. He tilted his head to the side, just a bit, and said gently, “I really like that shirt you have there.”
For some unfathomable reason, that broke the ice in my bones. I bounced over and got my handshake and hugs and pictures.
[LATER]
After Iron Maiden played my brother’s favourite song we made our way outside to the sea of waiting taxis and ubers and lyfts. When we had arrived I had spotted two black buses and decided to go wait by them, much to my little brother’s annoyance. There were maybe ten other Ghost fans and we all seemed to Know these were THE buses. Billy Vanilla visited with us, told us amazong road stories, testified that Tobias is “Henry Rollins-level“ smart, impicated himself as a vampire. He even brought random guitar picks! After a while a ghoul emerged from a bus and very happily signed things with his ghoul insignia. Then we waited a bit more.
Around midnight I looked to my right and saw maybe a half dozen people coming up the sidewalk. They were led by a man in a white Misfits shirt and the skinniest skinny jeans I had ever seen. I was so new to Ghost world at the time that I didn’t know that man’s name, but I Knew it was Papa. Something about that deep, penetrating gaze; it’s not just something he turns on to perform.
The group climbed onto the bus and this Papa man stopped to say to us, “let me put my things away, and I’ll be out soon.” So we’re all standing up, giddy, even my brother was excited (he had been threatening to leave without me for an hour).
Tobias Forge is an incredibly nice guy. He spent a good five minutes talking to everyone in line, asking auestions, answering questions, signing things. Once you get over the Soul Gaze, talking to him feels like you’re just catching up with a friend you haven’t seen in a while. There’s no “fuck off I’m a celebrity” attitude exuding from him.
When he moved down the line to me, the first thing he said was “I really do like your shirt,” as though assuring me it wasn’t just Papa saying that. I told him I’d bring my spare for him next time I saw the band. He looked genuinely surprised then said “really? Wow, thank you! That’s so kind of you!” I proceeded to spill my guts about how long it had been since I saw a concert and chronic health issues and blah blah blah. But he listened, occasionally looking concerned. He asked if I enjoyed the show. I figured why not suck up a bit and told him “It didn’t feel like you were the opener. It felt like Iron Maiden was your closing act.” Tobias covered his mouth to stifle a laugh. “Shit, don’t let them hear you say that!” he said with a big grin. He signed my ouija board and thanked me for coming out and moved on to talk to my brother.
Another ghoul, who I later learned was (and still is) Aether, followed Tobias. He thanked me for the card I gave to the band and I forget how but we started talking about cats. He pulled out his phone and showed me his lock screen, which had a beautifully fluffy cat on it. He told me she was his baby and in two weeks he’d get to see her again. I told him he sounded like a good cat dad and he grinned. Then he signed my board and moved on to my brother
And that’s about all I can remember. It was the first of what has become many amazing experiences. I probably could have just gone back into my blog and dredged up my original posts, but no, I prefer this, this reminiscing and giving everything a glaze of nostalgia.

Out of My League [Part 2]
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Single mom!Reader
Word count: 4.5k (ohohohoho i went OVERBOARD with the dialogue here I am sorry for all the useless exposition)
Summary: Most things have changed in the last 10 years, but it’s safe to say that a few things stayed exactly the same. Mixed POV
Warning(s): Mentions of past bullying, mentions of cheating, mentions of kidnapping, general criminal minds stuff, cursing, VERY VERY BRIEF MENTION of a miscarriage and leukemia like it’s one sentence and that’s all
Author’s Note: The moment yall have been waiting for! They grow up so fast!! I’m going on a quick trip this week and then heading back to school a few days later, so the next part may take a little longer, but I’m super excited to write it!!
[Previous Part] [Series Masterlist]
Las Vegas, Nevada, 2004
(Spencer’s POV)
My first case out on the field was not a pleasant one. Well, it rarely is, that’s what happens when you work for the FBI to catch serial killers. For the first couple of weeks at the BAU, I helped them consult on cases, but they weren’t sure I was ready to go out on the field with them. After I got my weapon certification, Gideon told me he wanted me to come along on the next case because I was familiar with the area. There had been a series of child abductions near Vegas, my hometown. I would have been much more nervous about traveling had I not been able to see my mom while I was there. I hadn’t visited her in a while and the guilt was gnawing at me.
The first day was brutal. Hotch made some of us go back to the hotel late at night, but it was hard for us to sleep. JJ hated working cases about children, so she went to have a quick drink at the hotel bar, where she promptly forgot her purse and had to call me from her room to go get it for her. I had no hope of getting any rest that night, so I figured I’d take a walk down the hall and try to clear my head.
There was no sign of the purse at first glance, no small black clutch on the bar like JJ said. But there was a woman cleaning glasses behind the counter, maybe she knew where the purse was.
As I approached the bar, the woman’s features took a familiar shape and triggered a distant memory. Seeing her face again was like coming home after a long drive without a map, squinting through the dark and hoping the headlights would get brighter when finally, you’re pulling onto a road that you know by heart.
I didn’t need to look at her nametag, I already knew who she was, but judging by her polite smile borne solely out of the courtesy required to work in the service industry, she didn’t recognize me. In her defense, I had grown about a foot and a half since the last time she saw me. And I got a freaking haircut.
“Y-Y/N?”
She looked up from her rags and scrunched up her face in confusion.
“Okay, so you definitely know me, and I am so sorry about this, but I can’t quite place it. You look so familiar, though, I just… I meet a lot of people with this job, I’m so sorry, I forgot your name.”
I grinned, she still had that same habit of apologizing every five seconds, “I don’t really have that problem, eidetic memory and all.”
Her eyes widened, “Spencer? Spencer Reid!”
I laughed and nodded.
“You’re so tall now! What has it been, like, 10 years? Oh my goodness, come here.” She awkwardly leaned over the bar and hugged me. She still used the same shampoo.
“How ya been, kid?”
“I’m good! H-How are you?”
“Doing fine, thanks. What brings you back to good ol’ Sin City?”
“I’m here for work.”
“Oh, and what are you doing now?” She leaned on the counter and gazed up with curious eyes, “Helping the doctors at Area 51?”
Good to know she still had jokes, “No actually, I’m with the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI.”
“Woah, you’re a fed now?”
“Yeah, we’re investigating a series of--”
“Kidnappings. Yeah. Scary shit. Can I get you a drink?”
“No, I’m good.”
“You close to catching the guy?”
“Unfortunately, no.”
“Any of the kids turn up?”
“Unfortunately, yes. We found one boy this morning. He… didn’t make it.”
Her face dropped to a look of worry I hadn’t seen since she took off my blindfold that day on the football field, “Name. I need a name,” her voice grew hoarse.
“I can’t really disclose that information.”
“Spencer, please. Every day my kid comes home from school and asks me if I was watching the news.”
I couldn’t deny the way my heart sank at the news, but I could sure as hell ignore it, “Y-You have kids?”
“One. Little Jamie. His best friend, Robbie, is missing.” Robbie Carter, age five, he’s been missing for the past two weeks. He’s likely dead, but we still haven’t found him.
“Every time someone misses school he gets scared they got taken too. Baby Boy doesn’t understand flu season yet.”
“How old is he?” I had to get her mind off of this. I don’t want to worry her.
“Five. Just started kindergarten. Wanna see a picture?” Seems like I succeeded.
“Sure.”
She whipped out her phone and pulled up a picture of Jamie on his first day of school, backpack far too big for his body. Y/N was posed next to him, the picture too small to show that she was crying ever so slightly.
“Adorable, right?”
I couldn’t stop the grin spreading across my face, “Cute kid. Looks just like you.”
She looked back at the photo and smiled softly, “Except the eyes. He’s got his dad’s eyes.”
I glanced down at her hand holding the phone and was greeted with a pleasant surprise, “I’m guessing Jamie’s dad isn’t in the picture?”
Offense flickered across her features for a second, her eyebrows twitching and lips pursing, “How’d you know?”
“No ring.”
“You do work for the FBI.”
“Would you mind telling me what happened?”
“You know, you’re supposed to be the one spilling your sorrows to the bartender, not the other way around.”
“You don’t have to tell me, just thought we could catch up, I haven’t seen you in ten years.”
She sighed, returning her phone to the front pocket in her apron, “Remember Kyle Brothers?”
“Oh, do I? Yeah, of course, I remember your high school boyfriend, Y/N. What tipped you off, the eidetic memory, or the fact he used to beat me up after gym class?” It was more like the intense rage and jealousy I had when they got back together after football season ended.
“God, see, I always knew he was an asshole, but it never seemed to faze me, I’m so sorry about that.”
“You did what you could. And you apologize too much.”
“Sor--”
She froze mid-word and made a face as she realized once again that she was about to apologize yet again. I stifled a chuckle, but she laughed and grabbed a rag from the counter to finish cleaning the glasses.
“So Kyle?”
“Yes, Kyle. We broke up again before college, I was going out of state and didn’t wanna do long distance, you know all that. I was in a really bad place during my senior year of college, so after graduation, I decided to move back home for a bit, spend some time with my mom--”
“How is she?”
“She’s great! Moved to D.C. with my dad a while back.”
“I should visit her, Quantico isn’t far.”
She returned a genuine smile, “She would love that.”
“Sorry I interrupted you, keep going.”
“You’re fine. Long story short, moving back home for a few months turned into having a one night stand with my ex. Which turned into us getting engaged nine months later while I’m exhausted and holding my son.”
“Well, that’s a fun birth story for Jamie.”
“Yeah, ‘Happy Birthday, sweetie, your father proposed to me while you were, like, an hour old and then cheated on me six months later.”
“Seriously?”
“Yep.” She popped the p, “Came home and heard two things: Jamie fussing in his sleep from the playpen and bedsprings squeaking in our room.”
“I’m guessing that you guys were done for good after that?”
“Nice detective work.”
“Technically, I’m a profiler, not a detective, as they typically work in local police departments and I work for the federal government, not a precinct--”
“Jesus, kid, you’re gonna put the poor lil lady to sleep,” I turned around and saw Morgan crossing the lobby to the bar, still in his work clothes.
“If I'm yawning it’s from my double shift, not his rambling. It’s been a while since I heard a good Spencer Reid knowledge dump.”
“You two know each other?” He leaned on the bar and I could sense him turning on the classic Derek Morgan charm.
“I could ask you the same question.”
“Uh, Y/N, this is SSA Derek Morgan, we work together, Morgan, this is Y/N L/N, we went to high school together.” The “I had a huge crush on her” was silent.
“Nice to meet you, doll,” he reached out a hand to shake yours. His eyes lingered on you for a bit too long, and I recognized the look in her eyes from the way she talked to Kyle in the halls before our study sessions, and I didn’t like any of that one bit.
Derek turned back to me, “JJ sent you down here a while ago, she’s looking for you.”
I glanced at Y/N and tried to hide the cocktail of emotions in my mind, “I guess I just lost track of time.”
He probably caught onto something because his regular teasing smirk flashed on across his face, “You guess, sure, loverboy, I’ll be in our room. Nice meeting you, Y/N.” He left and she waved, watching him as he left.
“JJ?” She asked, turning back to me.
“Coworker of mine, she left her purse down here and sent me to get it for her.”
“Oh, Blondie from earlier?”
“Yeah.”
“She seemed nice. So pretty!” She reached below the bar and pulled out the small black purse that was left behind about an hour before, holding it up to me and cocking an eyebrow.
“Yep.”
“How long have you two been working together? Long enough to be more than coworkers?”
I laughed uncomfortably, “Uh, n-no, actually this is actually my first case on the field, before this I only really helped the team consult on cases, but this one was urgent and I wanted to visit my mom so they brought me along.”
“Well, send Diana my love.”
“Of course. And if you hear anything from Jamie about another missing kid, give us a call.” I reached into his pocket and pulled out a card, sliding it to her and leaving with a sympathetic smile, wishing I could say more.
(Reader POV)
About a week after you ran into Spencer, you were closely following the story as it unfolded on the news. Another kid had gone missing, the second in two weeks. His name was Drew Olson, he was a year older than Jamie. They didn’t find a body yet, so there was still hope. Robbie hadn’t turned up either, which was the best news you had about him. No other bodies have shown up yet, and the cause of death for the boy they found was starvation, so the guy probably didn’t want to hurt these kids.
Regardless of whether or not the situation was actually dangerous, the school still increased security, since two of the victims were students. The pickup line was heavily monitored by teachers and faculty to make sure all students went home with their parents. You had gotten there a bit later than usual, forcing you to the back of the crowd where you couldn’t see the kids as they came out of the building.
When you finally got up towards the front, there were only a handful of kids left.
And Jamie wasn’t one of them.
Panic started to twist your stomach into knots, but the rational part of your brain clawed at the inside of your skull saying he was just inside, he was waiting in a classroom, he was safe.
You pushed through to the teacher that was keeping track of names on her clipboard. She was younger, just about your age, and wore wire-framed glasses that complimented her dark braids. She gave a warm smile and asked for your child’s name.
“Brothers, Jamie Brothers.”
“Alrighty, let’s see--” she paused as her finger stopped over a name highlighted by a bright green, indicating that the child had been picked up: Jamie Brothers.
“He’s not here.”
“What? What do you mean he’s not here?” The part of your brain that said he was safe fucked right off and left you a shaking mess on the pavement. The teacher reached an arm out and held you by the elbow as your knees buckled beneath you. Other parents’ attention was suddenly directed towards you.
“Ma’am, the sheet says he was picked up already.”
“But by who? Not me! So who the hell took my son?” All eyes were on you as you didn’t even bother to control the volume of your voice.
“Mrs. Brothers, please remain calm, I’m sure there’s been a mistake, I can send someone in to find him inside the school.”
“Please…” You whimpered, unable to find your breath.
...Give us a call…
Spencer’s words echoed in your mind and you knew what you had to do, so you scrambled through your bag for the card you were given the week before. You frantically cursed under your breath as you searched for your wallet. You finally found it, taking it out with your phone so you could call the number on the card. It rang once, twice, three times before an unfamiliar voice crackled through on the other side.
“Agent Hotchner.”
“Are you with the FBI?”
“...Yes, who is this?”
“My name is Y/N L/N, Spencer Reid gave me this number if I knew anything.”
“Do you have information regarding the recent abductions?”
“My son’s been taken.” You could feel the lump in your throat nearly restricting any words from coming out.
“Hold on, ma’am, where are you?”
“I’m at the school, he’s not here. I came to get him and he’s not here, I don’t know what to do!”
“Miss L/N, stay put, we’re on our way.” The call ended with a click and suddenly the world went quiet. There was nothing but the rush of blood pounding in your ears. All you could do was stare blankly at nothing in particular as the phone fell from your hand, hitting the pavement, your knees following quickly behind. You felt the bruises on impact, but you couldn’t care less about how much pain you were in, not when you felt this numb. Your pain didn’t matter anymore, all that mattered was that Jamie was missing and you were powerless to help. The remaining parents surrounded you, all clutching the shoulders of their children, their safe children, the ones they didn’t have to call the fucking FBI to pick up from school today.
When your brain was able to process information again, you noticed the school parking lot had filled with police cars, including two large black SUVs. You squinted through the inappropriately bright sunlight and the bitter tears in your eyes to see a tall man in a dark suit approach you. Behind him, a scrawny young man in a plaid buttondown was following closely.
You recognized him right away this time.
“Spencer,” your voice was barely a whisper as you attempted to stand on your shaking legs. You looked straight past the man in the suit and scrambled over to him. Before you could even reach him, his arms were stretched out to you, enveloping you in a tight hug as soon as you were close enough.
Your heart had to be beating out of your chest, and you were sure he felt it against him. The tears running down your cheeks stained his shirt, soaking him to the skin as he cradled your head against his chest, trying to do whatever he could to make you feel safe again, no matter how scared he was.
The man in the suit was now joined by an older man in a brown jacket and the man you met at the bar the other night, Derek, you think his name was. The suit turned to you and Spencer and introduced himself as Agent Hotchner, the man you spoke to on the phone. He asked you to describe what happened when you arrived, if you saw anyone who looked out of place, if you saw evidence of a struggle. Spencer’s arms never left your frame the whole time you spoke.
“Thank you very much, Miss L/N, I promise we’ll find your son, we have time on our side. Reid, stay with her in the meantime, Morgan, go question the parents, Gideon and I will talk to the monitors and see if they knew who picked Jamie was picked up by.”
“Yes, sir.”
All the men left to complete their tasks except for Spencer, who was supposed to stay put with you. The second you were alone with him once again, your face returned to the spot on his dampened shirt where it had previously been. One of his hands was planted firmly on your upper back, the other stroking your hair between his fingers.
It’s strange, really. Last time you saw him he was just a kid. A brilliant, sweet, small kid. The kid who’s hair you’d fuck with. The kid you held after his bullies hurt him. Then you don’t see him for over a decade and suddenly the roles are reversed. He was tall enough to rest his chin on your head now, which you had mixed feelings about, but you couldn’t deny it calmed you down. Almost as much as his quick yet steady heartbeat drumming right in your ear. The kid was still skinny, but his hugs were still warm.
“You’re alright, we’re gonna find him,” he whispered into your hair, but you had a feeling those words weren’t only for you. After a few minutes, the three other agents returned to where you and Spencer stood, alerting the two of you that the team would be heading back to the police station where you were welcome to wait with them. Derek figured you were too shaken to drive yourself, so he offered to let you ride along with him and Spencer in the SUV, which you did not hesitate to accept.
Once at the station, you were greeted by the blonde from the bar. What was her name again?
“Jennifer Jareau, I’m the press liaison for the team. You can call me JJ.”
She sat with you while Spencer worked with the others on the case. You wanted to be updated whenever progress was made, but she told you that wasn’t totally possible. Regardless of how against the rules it was, she still gave you the profile. The unsub likely worked with children and knew them and faculty well enough to enter the building and take the kids without being noticed. They may be a parent going through a loss, as no evidence of sexual assault or any physical violence was found on the only body save for light ligature marks on the wrists. Due to the relatively nonviolent nature of the crime, the unsub could be a woman. They likely live alone since they are keeping several young boys in their home. Although this likely wasn’t the work of a pedophile, a trafficking ring could not be ruled out yet.
You suddenly understood why the victims’ families aren’t supposed to know the profile. You thought it would make you feel better, but it only made you feel worse. JJ opened up another box of tissues for you, got you water, and offered you snacks, but there was no way you could get anything down. Every sound, every person that passed the window, every buzz of JJ’s phone sent your stomach plummeting down a death drop. You had just calmed yourself down from yet another panic attack when you saw agents strapping on kevlar vests and putting their guns into their holsters.
They knew where the kids were.
(Spencer’s POV)
I wasn’t allowed to see her before we left. I couldn’t tell her where I was going, I couldn’t tell her that Jamie would be okay, I couldn’t tell her anything. I barely spoke to her since we got back to the station, and that was hours ago. Now I-- we just have to leave her there again.
This was my first time going out on the field in this capacity. I’d never had to step out of that SUV with my gun out, ready to shoot anyone who threatened the lives of my team or any hostages they may have. I’d never had to strap on a kevlar vest and worry about the potential bruises that may be left behind by being hit with bullets. I’d never had to worry about not coming back before.
“Don’t be worried. If your hands shake you won’t get a clear shot,” Gideon reminded me in the car, as if I’d be able to get a clear shot with a steady hand anyway.
The unsub was a woman named Harriet Yanonovich. According to hospital records pulled by Garcia, our new tech analyst, her son had recently passed after a short and sudden battle against leukemia. This came shortly after Harriet had a miscarriage that triggered a chemical imbalance, degrading her mental health, which resulted in the trigger, losing her job at the elementary school that the boys had each been taken from. I would have felt bad for her if she hadn’t taken my friend’s son away from her.
But she did, and now I just have to hope she didn’t hurt him.
We arrived at Harriet’s house fairly quickly. Hotch sent Morgan and me around the back, he and Gideon would take the front. As we rounded the back of the house, we discovered that she had a storm cellar under her deck. The doors were closed with a heavy padlock. Morgan aimed his gun to shoot it off the chain.
“Don’t do that. The bullet would ricochet and hit you in the knee.”
He lowered his weapon, “You got a better idea, pretty boy?”
“Yes, actually.” I quietly crept onto the deck, lifting the welcome mat from in front of the sliding glass door into the absolute wreck of a kitchen. Under the mat was a simple looking key.
“She’s a school teacher going through a depressive episode, not a criminal mastermind.”
“Alright then, genius,” he rolled his eyes, “Let’s see if it even works.”
I inserted the key into the lock, hearing a click and turning it with little difficulty. The shackle popped open. I gently removed it from the chains, trying my hardest not to make any noise that would alarm anyone in the cellar. Unwrapping the chains from the handles, I turned back to face Morgan.
“I accept your apology.” I attempted to muster my smuggest smile, but it was hard to mask the dread and worry on my face.
“Yeah, yeah, open up.”
He grabbed one handle and I grabbed the other, sliding the metal doors open and revealing a staircase into a shadowy basement.
“You first.” Morgan nudged my shoulder.
“What? No way! Morgan, this is serious!”
“So go! It’s your girl’s kid!”
He was right. Not about Y/N being my girl, because she wasn’t (though the thought did briefly replace the anxiety in my heart with pure light that I hadn’t felt since I was twelve), but I was still doing this for her. This case wasn’t just a job for me. This was for Y/N. For Jamie. Y/N deserves to see her son again, I owe her that much.
Derek would learn about my fear of the dark much later, but from how fast I jumped down those stairs into that cellar, he’d never been able to tell.
Against the farthest wall, there were four young boys all curled up in a corner. From the limited light, I could see they were all covered in varying levels of filth, the cleanest boy baring the face I had seen on Y/N’s phone screen. The boys all looked terrified, the two dirtiest looking thin and weak against the ties that bound them to a water pipe. I called up to Morgan to come down and lowered my gun.
“I’m Dr. Spencer Reid with the FBI, I’m here to help you guys, okay?” The boys all nodded. Morgan helped me untie their wrists.
“Do you know where Mrs. Yanonovich went?”
“She said she was going upstairs, and that we have to be good or else we wouldn’t get any supper,” Jamie piped up.
“How long you been down here, kid?” Morgan asked.
Jamie shrugged, “Couple hours.”
“Did she hurt any of you?” The kids all shook their heads no.
Hotch’s voice crackled over the radio, “We have her in custody, any sign of the kids?”
“Yep, we found them in the cellar. All are alive, but we may need a medic on standby at the station for some of them.”
“Are they hurt?”
“No, just malnourished. Definitely dehydrated.”
Morgan and I led the kids out to the surface, the setting sun creating a glare off of the tin cellar doors. We were greeted by Gideon and police rounding the corner to the backyard. The kids ran out the gate towards the police cars, eager to be home soon.
(Reader POV)
“Okay, I’ll let them know.” JJ hung up and turned back to you, a relieved smile gracing her face. You stood up, desperate to hear the news she had.
“They found the kids, Jamie’s safe.”
You couldn’t stop yourself from lunging at the woman you barely knew, wrapping her in a bear hug as delighted laughs left your lungs. You felt tears of pure relief drip down your cheeks as she squeezed you back, also letting out a deep sigh.
You waited impatiently in the bullpen, anxious to see Jamie unharmed and to give the team your gratitude. When they finally arrived, you saw your son walking hand-in-hand with Spencer and the older agent you believed was named Gideon. Spencer pointed over to you with his free hand and smiled, causing Jamie to drop their hands and sprint into your arms crying “Mommy! Mommy!” You immediately lifted him up and covered his face with kisses. The two of you held onto one another so tight, you were surprised either of you could breathe. Spencer came over to you, smiling with eyes you couldn’t quite recognize.
“Thank you, Spencer.”
“No need, Y/N. I’m glad I could help. I just wish I could have met Jamie here on better terms!”
You adjusted your hold on Jaime to free one hand, stretching it out for Spencer to take it in his own. You squeezed it gently, smiling into those hazel eyes that had somehow never looked warmer before, despite the deep shadows under them.
“Thank you.”
His pursed lips twitched slightly and you noticed the tears brimming his sunken eyes. The poor boy needed sleep and a lot of it soon. He squeezed your hand back, sending shockwaves up your arms straight to your heart, which hadn’t felt this light since you were seventeen years old.

Happy birthday, Jordan
It wasn’t even 4am when Hal woke up to the gentle green glow of his ring announcing a new message from the Corps. They really couldn’t leave him alone, even on his birthday now, could they?
He had half a mind to pretend not to notice and go back to sleep. His last mission had been short but exhausting, leaving him completely drained. His dark circles had dark circles at this point, even though he had slept basically all day the day before, waking up only to go to the bathroom and eat half an apple and a toast.
Unfortunately for him – and fortunately for the Corps – Hal Jordan was a devoted man and an Honor Lantern so he kind of had to.
With a loud groan, he straightened a bit so he could prop his chin in his hand, not moving from his position on the bed where he was sprawled on his stomach, pillow still half under him. He had been Earth-side for barely two days, if they were expecting from him to look decent, they could fuck right off.
But when he ordered his ring to open the message, he was greeted by a short and simple: Happy birthday, Hal! Just this. It made him smile (and also breathe a bit more easily, he really didn’t want to go back to space this quickly.)
Then his ring pinged again and there was a little hologram of his fellow Green Lanterns. He could see Kilowog and Tomar, Jess and Simon. John and Kyle, the younger man grinning like a five year old as he held a notepad with a caricature of Hal drawn on it and come on Kyle, my head is not that big. There was also Guy. Who was… Hal sighed, shaking his head. Guy was harboring a shit eating grin while flipping him off. Typical.
Before going back to sleep, he sent back a simple thank you note to all of them and then, for good measure, he sent another one to Guy with a hologram of himself flipping the bird.
He swore he could hear him laugh all the way to earth. That asshole.
* * *
The second time he woke up, around three o’clock in the afternoon, Hal felt a lot less like a zombie. He probably still had a few hours of sleep to catch up on but it was nothing he couldn’t survive without. He had to be up in a couple of hours for monitor duty anyway, so might as well wake up a bit earlier and enjoy some peace before going back to work.
There was a little cardboard box on his kitchen counter when he emerged from the shower, with a fancy little ribbon and a card. He didn’t even need to open the card to know who it was.
Firstly, because Carol was the only one, with Barry, who had a spare key to his apartment in case he had an emergency call from the Corps and, secondly, because it just had her name written all over it. He recognized the design on the box being from that fancy French bakery close to her apartment and knew that when he would open it, he’d find a generous slice of their famous lemon meringue pie.
He ate it in silence with some coffee, responding to the different birthday wishes he had received. Some were from Tom and a bunch of coworkers. There were also several audio messages from his nephew and niece trying to figure out how to work around the feature until their parents probably had had enough and had decided to take family photos instead. Six in total, all of them blurry. But at least Hal could somehow guess what was written on the sign his niece was holding. It made him laugh and he decided to call his brother, just to tease him.
They ended up talking for a while. It felt good, this small bit of normalcy.
* * *
Hal was on his way for the monitor room, two cups of coffee in hands, when he heard someone call his name. Ah. He had hoped no one would catch him before monitor duty. He was already on the brink of running late and god knew Batman disliked lateness. But hey, after all it was his birthday.
“Hal! Hang on!”
He turned around just when Clark arrived at his level. The other man was smiling widely at him, holding a small plate with a cupcake on it in his big hands and looking like an oversized golden retriever puppy.
“Lois made enough cupcakes for an army because she was bored at home yesterday – I’m starting to think that forced leave really wasn’t our boss’ greatest idea but anyway. She told me to bring it here for everyone,” he said before Hal could even ask anything. “There’s a whole plate in the lounge but with Barry around I thought I’d give you one for your birthday before he wolfs them down.”
He snorted at that because, honestly, that was fair. Because of his powers, Barry was basically a walking stomach and everybody knew he had a giant sweet tooth.
“Thanks, Clark.”
“You’re welcome. And happy birthday!” he said, floating away.
Hal had given up on trying to balance the plate and his two cups in his hands, using a construct instead, when Dinah pounced on him, quickly followed by Oliver and Barry. She was the first one to hug him, kissing his cheek gently.
“Happy birthday, hot stuff.”
“Thanks, Di.”
“Hal, my man! Happy birthday!” Oliver shouted before squishing Hal’s cheek between two big, callous hands, not even waiting for Dinah to be out of his arms.
In retrospect, he should have expected it – it was Oliver after all, the guy didn’t know what “inhibition” meant – but, he couldn’t stop his eyes from going wide as saucers as the blond placed a resounding kiss right on his lips.
“So? How’s that for a birthday present?” he asked, smug, earning himself an eye roll from both Barry and Dinah.
“That was my present?”
“Yes. Wonderful isn’t?”
“Truly. I’m delighted. Such a generous present.”
“I’m a generous man.”
“So charitable.”
All eyes turned on Barry.
“Was that sarcasm, Bear?”
The speedster fixed Oliver with a blank stare. He looked even more exasperated than usual, which made Hal snicker. People assumed way too often that Barry was a goody two shoes but Hal had witnessed firsthand how quick witted he really was. “A snarky little shit” Oliver had called him once. And he was right.
“Happy birthday, Harold,” Barry said after a few seconds of silent judgement, opening his arms to embrace Hal.
He returned the hug good heartedly.
“Bear, you can’t wish me happy birthday and then call me Harold. That’s not legal, buddy.”
“Just say thank you.”
Hal simply squeezed him one last time before letting him go, winking at the group as he started to walk down the corridor again.
“Gotta go. Don’t want Bats to be mad at me on my birthday.”
“Like that would bother you!”
“Well yes, actually,” he almost said but he didn’t want to spend the next thirty minutes explaining to Oliver why so he pretended he hadn’t heard.
Truth was, Hal and Bruce were friends. Good friends, even. Recently, the pilot had even caught himself hoping for them to become more than that. They still had disagreements of course, they were both stubborn but they were past that now. Most of the time, it felt more like some weird kind of aggressive flirting than a real fight.
Hal enjoyed the other man’s company, especially now that he was comfortable enough with him to talk about more personal matters, like his family and boy did Bruce had things to say about the weird little clique that was his family. The fond look on his face just made it all the more worth it.
He cherished those hours spent together on the Watchtower, sometimes wishing they could do this outside of their hero work. Maybe he could pretend to need help on the Javelin’s new update to see him. She needed one and the only other person who knew her as well as Hal did was Bruce. He could buy him dinner too.
Sounds like a plan, he thought, entering the monitor room.
Bruce was already there, of course. His cowl was pulled back like every time when they were paired up, his hair looking ridiculously good even mussed. The man was always so effortlessly pretty, it was revolting.
“You’re late, Jordan.”
He didn’t even glance in Hal’s direction but it wasn’t like he needed to check that it was him.
“Better late than never, Spooks.”
That earned him a huff and then he saw Bruce slide a cup of coffee towards him on the desk.
Oh.
“It’s probably cold now.”
Lukewarm was probably more accurate – Hal wasn’t that late. But he refrained from mentioning it to the other man, instead grabbing the two still steaming cups from his tray construct and handing his to Bruce.
“I thought about preparing some too, so lucky us, I guess.”
He smirked at the Bat, oddly proud when Bruce smiled back, even just slightly.
“Miss Lane’s?” Bruce asked, nodding in direction of his construct while taking a sip of his coffee.
Hal looked back at the still floating, green glowing tray and reached out to retrieve the plate Clark had given him.
“Yep. Wanna share? It was your birthday yesterday after all. And happy belated birthday. By the way.”
It wasn’t lost on Hal that he had completely forgotten to even text him for his birthday but, like he had said, better late than never. He knew it probably hadn’t bothered Bruce, maybe hadn’t even registered with him that Hal hadn’t said anything but it sure did bother the pilot that he had forgotten. Bruce smiled again anyway, something small and secretive. Something just for him to see. Hal could feel an unusual blush creep up his cheeks.
“No, thank you,” Bruce said, turning back towards the screens in front of them, the cup Hal had given him cradled in his gauntleted hands. “Clark actually flew all the way to Gotham yesterday to bring us some. I left it for the kids. Too sweet.”
Hal had to laugh at that.
“Says the guy who takes his coffee with a metric ass load of sugar and cream in it.”
“I’m full of surprises.”
Bruce side-eyed him, half hiding a smirk behind the rim of his cup and Hal laughed again.
They focused on the monitors after that, a companionable silence between them, and Hal regretted not sleeping those two extra hours earlier. He could feel the bone deep tiredness take over him after a mere half an hour, his body sagging in his chair and relaxing into it despite his best efforts to stay alert.
He was nodding off, barely even conscious anymore, when he felt Bruce take his cup from his lax fingers.
“Idiot,” he heard him whisper and Hal wanted to retort something but he was too far gone to even form a coherent thought at this point.
Then he felt fingers graze his forehead, brushing away wild strands of hair, followed by a pair of slightly chapped lips pressing there. He automatically leaned into the gentle touch, sighing long and deep. The lips stayed there a second longer, lingering and warming up his skin, his whole body.
Hal wanted to wake up, to say something cheeky or, even better, just kiss Bruce. Properly. On the lips. Like he had been longing to do. But all he managed was a weak little whine as he turned his head towards the other man.
“Happy birthday, Jordan,” was the last thing he heard before drifting off completely.
(A few seconds later. Training room. Watchtower.
“Hey, Ollie?”
“What is it, Barry?”
“I think I just saw Bruce kiss Hal.”
“WHAT?!”)

Happy Father's Day
Summary: (1/3) Y/n hasn't told Harry that she is pregnant yet, however, when the day comes around she finds out he's cheating.
Warning: Swearing, Taylor Swift Bashing (I love Taylor don't get me wrong, it's just for the story's sake.)
Word Count: 1492
It's been 5 weeks since I found out I was pregnant. I wanted to tell Harry the moment I found out. I scheduled a doctor's appointment to confirm it because you can't really trust generic pregnancy. But when the doctor confirmed it, I had no idea how to respond.
Hiding this from him has been the hardest thing I've ever done. Harry and I have been together for almost five years now. We met at his twenty-second birthday party in New York, I was twenty. He was pretty upset that he still had to tour for his birthday, but he said it was great making a new friend. Next thing you know we went public after two and moved in together for our third year. I'm so in love with him, but our careers are taking off, a baby would just interfere with all of it however Harry has always wanted children. He'd make such a great dad too, I can only imagine what our family will look like. But these thoughts often consume me, what if he doesn't want this?
I thought Father's Day would be the best day to tell him, you know like a surprise, and what a better time unless of course, he doesn't want our child. Our parents are coming over because of course, we have gifts and brunch so it's like three for one.
I've been distant from him recently, he's so concerned about me he thinks something is terribly wrong with my morning sickness and all. I figured I'd tell him with a gift which is a wooden base with yarn woven letters made of nails that spells 'dad' with the first ultrasound underneath, there's a card too! I'm so excited to finally start a family with Harry, I just hope he feels the same way. I have mugs for each of our dads that say, 'soon to be grandfather'. Honestly, I couldn't be happier. Opening the front door, I place the keys on the table next to me and walk the bags to the living room. That's funny Harry would've greeted me by now? He's probably asleep.
Setting up for later, I bring the balloons over realizing the tablecloths are upstairs. I work my way up the steps. These are gonna be a hassle with an extra 30-40 pounds on me. The closer I get to the top, I hear a light moan.
"I love y/n, she can't know about this" Harry's voice spoke.
Tiptoeing to peak into our bedroom I see my beloved boyfriend, father of my child shirtless kissing a pant-less Taylor Swift. Wow. Just my, fucking luck. Of course, he would! I mean what was I thinking.
"Of course not, my reputation is already bad" she breathes, cupping the side of his face.
I just watch him continue to kiss her after leaning into her touch. Debating whether to go in there, I feel frozen in my steps.
"This doesn't feel right" his deep voice sighs. No shit.
"She doesn't even care about you Harry, isn't that what you told me?" She says sweetly, such a snake.
He sighs and flips them, the scene before me, causes tears to come to my eyes. Opening the door making my presence known Harry turns to me with wide eyes while Taylor scrambles to find her pants and shirt.
"Y/n it's not-"
"I don't want to hear it" I say to him. Irritation and disgust line my voice. Grabbing the table covers I go back downstairs. I have what I need. After looking at my presentation admiring the work I've done. Harry and Taylor both come downstairs. His eyes red and puffy. I swear the tears make his eyes appear more beautiful, I hope my child has his eyes at least.
Astounded by my quiet stature he sits next to me and I stiffen. I'm just quiet because it's keeping me from crying. Taylor stares blankly at the floor.
"Why the fuck are you still here? Leave." I spit at her.
Oh, how I wish I could drink.
The doorbell rings alarming Taylor. I just walk her to the door and invite our parents in "Thank you Taylor" I say sincerely seeing her nod and pull off fast in her car. Tramp.
"What's that about?" Anne ask,
" New music" she smiles and comes in with everyone trailing her steps.
"Harry what's wrong love?" she asks wiping his tears.
"Nothing just allergies mum" she pats his back and sits at the table.
"Five years, I cannot believe it, Harry it's the longest you've had!" Rob states. "And the fans love you Y/n" Anne adds lightly patting my shoulder. "Our little girls all grown up" y/m/n wipes a fake tear from her eye. Everyone laughs. Thank god Harry is next to me so I don't have to look at him. He places his hand in my lap, but I push it off, going unnoticed by the crowd around us.
"Gift time!" I exclaim as he tries again. Placing each one down in-front of them, they all look up slightly confused.
"What's this?" Y/d/n ask.
"Open them, Haz just wait a few seconds after" they all agree. Rob opening his first then y/d/n they look at me then Harry, our moms looks match Harry's as he unwraps his gift. Stunned he looks at me with tears in his eyes. "Y-you're pregnant?"
"Yeah, surprise." Our parents run up to hug us.
"It's about time, I'm getting old over here!" Y/m/n shouts. Once they leave excitedly picking out baby names. I refuse to look at Harry. I make my way upstairs and begin packing some clothing.
"W-what are you doing?" Harry ask quietly.
"What does it look like Harry?" I say pushing past him going to the bathroom and grabbing some necessities. He just leans on the door frame watching me, still refusing to look at him. At first, I cared but I've made up my mind.
"How far along are we?"
"I'm almost 6 weeks but that doesn't matter" trying to walk past him he just grabs my arm and pulls me into him.
"I love you so much," he cries into my neck. I just stand there, motionless "I'm such a fuck up. Please don't leave me. I want to be here for you, for our baby. Y/n please." His hot tears continue to stream onto my shirt leaving a wet patch.
I soon give in rubbing his back gently. "Calm down Harry," I whisper into his ear as his sobs get louder "Breathe, okay."
Sitting on the closest surface near me, today has been long; I'm tired and pregnant give me a break. He stands between my legs looking down at me. I love him I do, and I want the best for our child, but this hurt. The one request I've had is he doesn't cheat, and he did. I stare at my feet avoiding him at all cost until his hand lifts my chin, forcing me to look at him. "I'm not asking you to forgive me, but I am asking you to stay." He states softly placing a random string of hair behind my ear. He slowly starts leaning in I don't stop him. Suddenly feeling nauseous at the thought of him kissing Taylor, I shove him away from me crying.
He tries to hold me, but I just shake my head frantically, "Harry No," I cry. "How could you!? In our house Harry!" I shout. Continuing to pack my things making myself mad at the thought of his hands all over his ex.
"Y/n I'm so sorry please just stop," clothes I need clothes, just for a few days I'll buy more later. Walking into the bedroom opening my laptop ignoring his pleads. I book a hotel for two weeks, until I situate what is happening. He just sits on the bed trying to see what I'm doing but I soon erased my browser history and factory restarted the device so he can't track anything. Let's combine our accounts so our calendars sync. A swell idea. Wiping my tears, I pack outfits for each day that wouldn't show anything to the paparazzi. He sits there with his head in his hand's sharp intakes of breath audible.
As I approach him, he assumes I'm going to touch him, but I simply go into the drawer next to him. Cringing at the thought of him and Taylor who were here not over 6 hours ago, Grasping the more recent black and white photos gently until I get a photo album for them. Contemplating for a minute looking at the small framed version of my uterus I carefully tear one off handing to him before I seal my bag and walk away, taking my keys and loading my stuff in the backseat.
Looking through the rearview mirror, saying a silent goodbye to the home I hoped to raise my child. It'll get better- I hope.
A/n: Hello Loves! This is also a piece I had on wattpad. Most of these posts today will be Wattpad uploads. I'm trying to see which platform suits my work best. Bear with me while I figure Tumblr out. Masterlist coming soon!

🎉Celebrate! 🎉
Side note: this poor soul looks so tired and/or done for today.
Thought @skiyoosmi & @sakuric might like this. I wrote it for his birthday. Please forgive me since I don’t usually write for him, so if he seems a bit ooc, it’s on purpose.
Note official-> Senshu: an honorific used in professional sports for the players as a sign of respect for their staff members.
SFW with Sakusa
The celebration was simple. You, as a social media manager for MSBY, had been swamped with ideas from the team to celebrate Sakusa Kiyoomi. The ideas submitted by 23:59 the night before had ranged from surprise parties to pranking him by locking him outside his apartment (while the absolute best maids in the city steam cleaned it). None were catching your eye, so you brought up the idea of raising some funds for local charities where by the donors get to choose which photo he should upload to Instagram. However, the idea was not the best one considering Meian reminds you the last team photo shoot was one for men’s swim and sportswear.
“Yeah,” you said, scratching your cheek. “I suppose Omi-senshu wouldn’t like that.”
You sigh and made a general decision after you made a phone call to a caterer familiar with the team. You divided up the decoration purchases between all teammates for Sakusa. Bokuto and Hinata were in charge of balloons while Atsumu and their captain were placed in charge of purchasing refreshments and other gifts with the company card. All in all, to say that Sakusa Kiyoomi was quite surprised when he received a text from you to meet in the spare gym, he couldn’t hide the genuine look of gratitude flashing through his eyes. He even stayed behind or a little while longer after everyone went home to help you clean up the last bit of frosting in the gym floor.
You were equally surprised when you catch him sitting on the bench placing the last bit of cleaning supplies in a large gift basket Atsumu insisted he can use for laundry day. You place your hands in your sports coat pockets and called out to him. Sakusa was usually a stoic man around your age the time he got signed. You had joined the team fresh out of receiving your masters in public relations and you were recruited by the MSBY team after one of their players (Atsumu) had posted a thirst photo which went viral. Not only did you handle the media really well, you managed to scold the setter with a solitary stare. This incident and the fact you took into consideration all of the team’s habits (both good & bad) when scheduling meet and greets caused Sakusa in particular to take a sort of liking to you. So here you were walking up to him with a kind smile on your face.
For each member’s birthday, especially the younger ones, you made it a habit to wear their number somewhere on your person during their birthday. Today, you wore the alternate fan jersey for Sakusa and a pair of compression pants thanks to the secret Santa exchange last Christmas (and Hinata pulled your name), which caused his usually serious façade to change into a flushed one. He often became the target for teasing once Bokuto and Atsumu figured out he had an “office crush” on the model manager-chan. The guys each swore you had to have been a model or an empress in another life especially when you were called to stand in for an ad photo shoot for a designer label. The boys had wrapped up their session with the photographer, but the assistant fashion consultant asked if you could stand in for a model who was on a short break. You obliged and apparently being paired with Sakusa after getting dressed in the cocktail dress for the ad made his world (rather weekend) much more bearable. The ad was a success though. Even his fans were thinking (and reading too much into the sensual pose [sakusa was leaning a little too far to the side or your face making it seem like a kiss was shared when it wasn’t]) you were an item.
“Didn’t know you’d still be here,” you said. Sakusa cocks an eyebrow in your direction.
“I have no where else to be l/n-san,” Sakusa states.
“Call me yn,” you correct him, punching his upper arm slowly. This causes him to fake a hurt expression through his half covered face. You laugh telling him you didn’t mean to hit him that hard. Sakusa asks you if you’d like a ride to your apartment since according to him you shouldn’t be out too late anyways. You agreed for the first time since the photo shoot.
Upon entering the parking garage for your complex, he asks you a question:
“The guys got me something useful for my birthday, but I was wondering what you’re going to give me,” Sakusa says. His tone is strict and factual unlike earlier when Hinata and Bokuto were chasing him with frosted hands trying to mark him up with the sweet.
“Hmm,” you hum. “Haven’t really thought about it. Thought planning the party was enough, but since it’s you, Omi-senshu, you tell me.”
You unfasten your seatbelt in an efficient manner and right before your hand reaches for the door, his next words caught you off guard:
“Go on a date with me.”
You humbly nod, your bright pink face hidden behind your long bangs, while telling the athlete to pick you up tomorrow night at seven.
Extra!
Sakusa Kiyoomi is a punctual person. He was always on time for everything in his life, like practice, interviews, photo shoots, dinner parties, etc. Sakusa was always too punctual even by your standards. You had asked him once at a local dinner event (put on by fellow sponsors for the MSBY team) if he ever ran late. You were elated to find out you were seated at his table apparently because Miya had asked to switch seats because of the new intern at a magazine wanted to flirt with him more.
“You really are perfect,” you mumble, then you sighed curling your hand under your chin. You drank your champagne and asked a waiter for an old fashioned to be served during the entree portion of the evening.
“I can assure I am far from perfection,” he whispers back.
Tonight though, you had your date lined up with the athlete. After much deliberation, you decide on wearing a form fitting to plum pencil skirt with an ivory button down blouse. You paired it with flats in case you find yourself with him at a local park not too far from the restaurant where he recommended (spoilers: you do find yourself at the park around nine-thirty with him).
The official door knocker was gently used by him and you bound for the door with a little more pep in your step than before. You decided to forgo a full face of make up offering up a simple five minute face comprised of brown eye liner and mascara along with tinted lip balm to Sakusa’s rather refined chiseled one. In his hands (which shook a little from the nerves he was experiencing since it’s been about a year and a half since his last relationship went sour—thank you Bokuto for getting drunk enough to spill that tea), he held a small bouquet of pink roses. He presents it to you with a blank expression. It’s one you can’t make out, but when you take it in your hands, the wrapper crinkles.
“They’re lovely,” you say as you take a whiff. “You didn’t have to.”
Sakusa shrugs saying he didn’t mind picking them up for you. You invite him inside for a moment so you can place the stems for the blooms in a vase before you traverse out together. Sakusa looks at the modest way you decorate your home with the most minimalist of colors and fashions. You were always a huge fan of minimalist colors and monochromatic works. The most color he saw was a photo of you in your cap and gown standing solo with your masters graduate bouquet. Your parents are no where to be seen, he probably presumed they took the photo. That was, until his eyes saw the small altar next to the entertainment center. A photo of them laid behind the offering you left.
“I see you found my parents,” you said gently. Your voice came from behind him, causing him to turn around after he offered up a silent prayer for their souls.
“I’m sorry,” he says. You could tell in how he apologizes that Sakusa’s lips barely turn downward into a slight frown (or grimace).
You wave a hand in the air telling him it’s alright and that you didn’t know them very well. From you’ve been told by their colleagues, your parents were big into medicine (dad was a sports doctor and mom was a physical therapist with a concentration in sports chiropractics) and photography on the side was a great hobby. You don’t see nor remember where you had placed the album from high school your grandparents had gifted you where photos of your time with your parents were documented. You choose to save that for another time (perhaps another date if this evening went well).
You mention the time and he escorts you to where his car was waiting at the valet option for your building.
“What time was the reservation again? We should get going,” you say as you grab your clutch and head to the door. Sakusa is close behind you after he hums in agreement.
Throughout dinner, Sakusa was more relaxed with you. He didn’t mind sitting as far away or as close to the kitchen as possible. He liked the intimate atmosphere of the mid dinner rush. You, on the other hand, glanced around the menu knowing full well your wallet could not afford half of the entree menu even if you tried. As you stare at one of the dishes highlighted as chef’s specialty, you purse your lips together humming to the soft jazz music coming from the speakers above. Yes, you may be a manager on staff for the MSBY team, but you could only imagine ordering from a place like this. Luckily for you, Sakusa notices your plight and reaches across the table and gently squeezes your hand. It was the first time he ever done that to you without his gloves on and your eyes shot up with a surprised expression staring into his opaque ones.
“Don’t worry about the cost, ok? I asked you out to dinner, remember?”
You chuckle and nod.
“I suppose you’re right,” you reply. You flash your canines in a sheepish grin.
As you two converse after the order was taken you were surprised a bit by the sudden invitation to this date and your curiosity did lead you to want to ask some probing questions, but alas with dessert about to served, you shied away from it. Your coffee and tiramisu slice looked too appetizing to not enjoy, so you offered Sakusa the first bite of it. To say you found out how much he enjoys this subtlety of letting your date give you the first bite caused something in your head (and heart) to flutter. Tonight, Sakusa Kiyoomi wasn’t the pro-athlete you help manage, nor was he a collegiate graduate with a great sense of business knowledge; Sakusa Kiyoomi was just that: himself.
With the bill paid for, you walk side by side with him outside of the restaurant’s rear entrance due to someone at the bar slip his name out to a table which caused a small buzz in conversation around the other patrons. Sakusa loves his privacy and he ultimately respects yours as well, which leads you to walk with him back to his car. He parks it outside in the parking lot by the swing set of a neighborhood park. You hop out of the car and begin to walk with him trailing behind you to the foam covered play area. You sit on a swing and while you reach into your purse for some hand sanitizer wipes, you start opening up a little more about the couple in the photo of the altar.
“My parents in the photo aren’t really mine,” you said. You extended the packet to Sakusa who’s face was half covered (he didn’t wear one when he picked you up nor throughout dinner, but kept it in his pants pocket). “I was adopted around age twelve, actually. They were really well-liked people and one night during a rainstorm the week before I turned thirteen their car veered off the road that was experiencing a sink hole phenomenon.”
You turn your attention to the skies with a warm smile spreading across your face.
“I think they would have liked you,” you said when you hear him sit next to you on other swing. He nods, a curl falling past the side of his face where his beauty marks are. You ask if it’s ok to touch his hair, and he doesn’t stop you from pushing the curl back.
You continue to have a semi-one sided conversation expressing a little more vitality in other interests and answering each other’s questions about life outside of practice and media signings/interviews. You and Sakusa stay out until a little past eleven twenty when he drives you back home. He walks up with you to your door while retelling a story about the first time he goes abroad with the team. You laugh to your heart’s content when you hear about the key mixup at check in.
“Thank you for dinner,” you say when you return to your door.
“You’re welcome, yn.”
“We should do this again. I had fun Kiyoomi.”
“Me too.”
You make the hand sign for him to lean down a little and you do something he wasn’t really expecting you to: you kiss the corner of his eye before bidding him farewell and sweet dreams. You open and close the door behind you and you press your back against it glowing pink up to your ears and chest. Taking your phone out of your clutch, you send him a text mentioning you’ll see him at practice tomorrow and to let you know when he arrives at his home.
Currently and unbeknown to you, Sakusa straightens his back to stand upright cupping the side of his face where your lips left an invisible impression. He chortles to himself while walking away making a mental note for the next date, he’d pull you into an exhilarating first kiss. The text chime goes off on his phone and he waits for the elevator in the hallway, he sends his reply affirming you he will.

Chapter Five
Taehyung’s Room, BTS House - 11:57pm
“Well, shit, JK. Looks like the party started without us.”
An hour ago, I would have shoved Jimin off of me and shimmied out of Yoongi’s hold. But, now? I definitely am in too deep to back down from Taehyung.
“Hmm,” I make a show of pushing my hips slightly against Yoongi’s as I turn to face Taehyung and Jungkook more fully, “Yes, it did. And you know why? Because you weren’t invited.”
Yoongi chuckles into my neck as my words detonate and land on Taehyung, who gapes in disbelief. “Don’t piss her off, Tae," I feel Yoongi's grin against my neck before he places a quick kiss behind my ear.
“Yeah, Tae,” I taunt, “Don’t piss me off.”
“We leave for ten minutes. Ten! And she’s already got you like this?” Taehyung stomps over to his bed and sits in a huff, "Can I at least get a kiss, too?”
"Oh, I don't think so," I purr, "You see, only good boys get kisses." Turning to Jungkook, I smile wickedly when I'm met with the cutest wide-eyed stare complete with bottom lip sucked behind his two front teeth.
"Jungkookie," I shake Jimin and Yoongi off me and slowly turn to face the youngest, "Have you been a good boy?"
He nods frantically and gulps when my hand slips up his black t-shirt. "I'm so happy to hear that."
"D-do I get a kiss, noona?" He asks in the tiniest voice imaginable.
"Oh, this is ridiculous!" Kim Taehyung rages from his four-poster bed, "Jungkook was just thirsting over you in the hallway!"
"Shut the fuck up, Kim," Jungkook growls, muscles bunching under my touch. I bite back a grin over how the boy’s duality really jumps out when he’s provoked.
"Hmm, is that so, Kookie?" My hand glides into his hair at the nape of his neck to pull his gaze back to mine, "Tell me what you said, and I might still let you have a kiss."
"What?" Taehyung cries.
"At this rate, she's not going to touch Taehyungie for 84 years." I hear Hoseok say, snickering. Seokjin's squeaky laughter and Jimin's high-pitched giggles ensue. I’m also almost certain I hear Yoongi let out a low chuckle.
"Tell me," I order Jungkook, who immediately caves like a house of cards during an earthquake.
"I j-just said that you were cute-”
"Bullshit!"
Jungkook shoots a livid glare over my shoulder at the blue-haired boy, "And, I said that I wanted to p-play with your nipple piercings… That I bet they make you look even prettier, noona. I'm sorry."
"Oh, baby," I say, stroking his reddened cheeks, "You know what? I think I just might let you."
"Really?" Jungkook looks like his birthday had arrived early.
"Really!?" Taehyung sounds like his birthday had been cancelled indefinitely.
"Really," I confirm, whipping off my hoodie. The various curses and groans reach my ears as I toss the hoodie right at Taehyung's slack-jawed face.
"Fuck, baby,” Seokjin hisses a breath through his teeth, "You weren't wearing a bra this whole time?"
"Huh?" I glance down only to be greeted by my bare skin, "Oh, shit."
"You came here. To this house. Without a bra?" A commanding voice sounds from the doorway, "Oh, babygirl, that's a dangerous move."
I face Namjoon, with my hands on my hips, nipples shamelessly pointed straight at him, "Dangerous? For me or for you?"
He cracks a slow smile, "Both." God, he looks to die for tonight - black cargo-pants, tight black t-shirt, black boots. My eyes latch onto the silver chain clasped around his neck and wonder if he’d let me pull him closer with it.
An impatient hand tugs on mine. "N-noona, will you still let me touch you?" Jungkook diverts my attention from the depths of Namjoon's dark eyes.
"Of course, Kookie," I link my fingers through his and turn to address the problematic king on the bed, "Taehyung, move over."
A flicker of hope sparks in Tae’s eyes as he immediately shifts to make room. I make my way over to the bed, dragging Jungkook with me.
"Jungkook, sit with your back against the headboard," I turn to Taehyung, "You, no touching."
"But-!"
"You're lucky I'm even letting you stay," I shoot him a glance, inwardly cursing at how tempting he looks sprawled out and gazing hungrily at me. Why did he have to be so insufferable?
Shifting to look at the boy practically bouncing on the bed with anticipation, I smile, "Can I sit on your lap, Jungkook?”
"Fuck yes," he breathes out, tongue darting to wet his lower lip.
A completely diabolical and sadistic idea pops into my brain. I slowly walk to the foot of the bed. The room quiets as I lean forward and climb on the bed. On all fours, I slowly crawl towards Jungkook, holding eye-contact.
He swallows hard, eyes darting every so often to my chest. Finally, I settle onto his lap and smile victoriously at the thick bulge I feel there.
“So unfair," Jungkook sighs, tilting his head back with his eyes squeezed shut, "You make me so hard, (y/n)-noona.”
“Yeah, I noticed,” the corners of my mouth quirk into a small smile, “Now, do you want to play with me? Or should I ask someone else?"
Jungkook’s mouth latches onto my left nipple and sucks. His hand moves up my back and then eases around my body to cup my other breast in his hold. I jolt as he pinches my nipple without warning, a surge of pleasure swells from deep within me.
“Mmm, Jungkook,” I hum and grind my hips down onto his, craving more friction. His tongue swirls around my piercing, and my breath catches.
"Fuck," I hear one of the boys choke out.
My eyes shoot open in search of the source and widen once I find it. Namjoon’s head is thrown back as Jimin kisses and sucks on his neck. Namjoon’s eyes remain heatedly on me as he murmurs, “Such a good boy.” Jimin and I both shiver as Namjoon’s words drip like honey off his tongue.
“Now, Jiminie,” Namjoon latches a hand through Jimin’s pink hair and tugs him away from his neck. The younger boy pouts. Namjoon ignores him, continuing, “Why don’t we show (y/n) how Kook likes to be kissed?”
At the mention of his name, Jungkook ceases his worshipping and whines, “Hyung, that’s not fair!”
“Not fair?” Taehyung’s indignant cry is immediate, “You just had (y/n)’s nipple in your mouth, and you think this is unfair?” I look over at the irate boy, who looks thoroughly wrecked despite not having even been touched. His light blue hair is a mess, red bandana long since removed. One ring-adorned hand is pressed solidly over the bulge in his jeans. The other is thrashing wildly in the air as he articulates his point.
“Taehyung,” Namjoon growls, “Enough.”
Taehyung wisely shuts up.
A timid knock breaks the tense silence. “Hey, Pres?” A hesitant voice calls through the solid wood, “We have a situation downstairs.”
“God-fucking-damnit,” Namjoon curses and turns to me, "(y/n), baby, I have to go deal with this."
I shrug and reach for my discarded sweatshirt next to Taehyung, "I should get going anyway. My friends are probably waiting for me."
"But Noona!" Jungkook's grip tightens on my hips as I tug on my top, "When will we get to see you again?"
"Jungkook, honey, this campus is only so big. Besides, you all have my SnapChat." I cock my head, "How did you get that by the way?"
"Well, would you look at the time!" Jin lurches to his feet, "I need to go get ready for bed."
“Kim Seokjin, I swear to god," I shimmy off of a pouting Jungkook, "If you step one toe out that door, I will burn your plushie collection."
"Yah," he exclaims, "How do you know that I even have plushies?"
I shoot him a deadpan expression and point to one of the many pictures of Seokjin on Tae's walls. This particular Polaroid displays a sleeping Jin amongst a plethora of plushies that all seem to be the same alpaca of some sort.
"Taehyungie, you little shit!” Jin sprints to the photo and tears it from the wall. Shoving the picture in the culprit's face, Jin rants, "When did you take this? Why did you take this?"
"Last week," Tae answers and shrugs, looking thoroughly unapologetic, "I thought you looked cute."
Jin huffs, "Well, that's a given.” He turns to me, “Please leave my babies out of this.”
“Don't worry, big boy," I grin up at his handsome face, "I'll just think of something else… something much, much worse."
He purses his full lips in a mock-pout. I melt. "Aw, you're so cute." I reach up and squish his cheeks together.
"Don't fall for it, (y/n)!" Hoseok yells, spurring yet another argument amongst the boys.
“Honestly,” I shake my head in bewilderment, “How do y’all even successfully date?”
“I ask myself that every damn day,” Min Yoongi smiles up at me from the floor.
Before I can respond, another knock sounds at the door. “Come on, baby,” Namjoon reaches a hand out towards me, “I’ll walk you down.”
I accept his hand and stare as it completely envelops my own. Namjoon sees my attention and gives my hand a quick squeeze.
“Alright,” I call over my shoulder to the rest of the group, “I’ll see y’all around, I guess?”
I’m faced with six grown-ass babies with varying degrees of puppy-dog eyes.
“Remember to think about what we said, noona!” Jimin begs, “Consider going out with us, okay?”
“I’m not likely going to forget that seven dudes asked me to date them,” I smile wickedly, “That only happens to me occasionally.”
With that, I walk out the door with Namjoon and revel in the chaos I left behind me.
“Occasionally?” Hoseok cries.
“I’m going to do some recon. These rivals must be eliminated.” Yoongi seethes.
“Noona wouldn’t pick another group over us, right?” Jungkook pauses, “Oh my god, she would.”
Namjoon slams the door behind us and laughs, “You’re such an instigator.”
“You right,” I nod.
Namjoon and I trail down the hallway after the jittery pledge who had interrupted us. Descending the staircase, I survey the crowd below and fail to notice anything that would qualify as a ‘situation’.
Namjoon seems to agree. “Eric, if you dragged me down here for no reason, getting an infraction will be the least of your worries…”
Eric the pledge gulps, “Pres, I swear, they’re outside.” His gaze shifts to me for a split second before returning to Namjoon, “They said they aren’t leaving until they speak to one of you. Alone.”
I huff, “I can take a hint, Eric. This is obviously ‘frat business’ or whatever.” Namjoon hides a smile behind his hand at my use of air quotes, and I do not appreciate him finding my annoyance humorous. I shoot him a murderous stare before locating Luna and Jenni from across the room.
“Bye, Joon,” I salute him and turn to head towards my friends. I barely make it one step before his hand catches my wrist.
His mouth brushes my ear as he says softly, “I’ll see you tomorrow, baby.” He gives my hand a squeeze and then disappears into the crowd with Eric.
Goddamnit. I had forgotten about volunteering. These boys are slowly but surely infiltrating my life, and I’m not at all sure on how I feel about it. My feet drag across the room until I reach my friends.
“Ready to go?” Luna questions, linking her arm through mine.
“Ready to be interrogated?” Jenni smiles evilly, assessing the mess that I am.
“Yes and no,” I groan, pulling them both outside. Starting our trek home, I field questions from both my friends. Somewhere far behind us, a girl shrieks something about being lettered, and I thank the stars that someone else has drama besides me…
(Y/n) & Luna’s Apartment – 8:45am
The infuriating sound of my phone vibrating with a number of incoming texts jolts me awake. Who the fuck dares to wake me up before my alarm? I grab my phone from its resting position on my nearby nightstand and almost fall out of my bed in the process.
“I’ll kill him,” I mutter darkly as I read the name displayed across my screen. It radiates an offensive mix of terrible grammar and narcissism.
Worldwide Handsome 3 New Messages
“This better be fucking good.” My fingers angrily swipe at the notification, opening the messages. I knew exactly who these messages were from. When did that bastard even get to my phone and add his contact information? How did he bypass my password? What kind of sorcery?
Worldwide Handsome 8:45am: “You up, beautiful?” 8:45am: “We’re picking you up in 20!!” 8:46am: “Wear something cute!!!! ;)”
(Y/N) 8:46am: “…Did you say WE???” 8:46am: Also, when and how the fuckity fuck did you get into my phone?” 8:47am: “ACTUALLY, NO – HOW THE FUCK DID YOU GET MY ADDRESS?”
Worldwide Handsome 8:47am: “A magician never reveals his secrets.”
(Y/N) 8:48am: “You are NOT a magician, you dweeb.”
Worldwide Handsome 8:48am: “Abracadabra, bish.”
(Y/N) 8:49am: “I can’t stand you.”
Worldwide Handsome 8:50am: “15 minutes!!!”
(Y/N) 8:50am: “15 minutes until I strangle you with my bare hands!!!”
Worldwide Handsome 8:53am: “Strangle? Sounds kinky… I’m into it.” 8:55am: “I’m bringing you coffee. What kind do you want?”
(Y/N) 8:55am: “Did I say strangle? I meant *hug you tightly and shower you with praise*!!!” 8:56am: “The largest size possible, please! Black.” 8:56am: “I’ll pay you back.”
Worldwide Handsome 8:56am: “That’s more like it!!” 8:56am: “And don’t even think about it… Papa Seokjin provides all.” 8:57am: “See you in 10.”
Egad! I spring out of bed and get dressed at the speed of light, grabbing the nearest t-shirt and pair of jeans. Shoving my feet into my trusty work-boots, I stumble into the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth.
‘Man, I look rough today’ is the first thought that pops into my brain as I look in the mirror; but I quickly correct that bad thought with: ‘Bitch, you look fine. Stop hating.’
Ever since I learned about cognitive restructuring in my Behavioral Psychology class, I have been attempting to practice it in my own life. The process of challenging my negative thoughts has been so fucking hard, but it’s definitely helped my self-esteem and stress.
Throwing my hair into a messy bun, I hear my phone buzz. Shit, that must be Seokjin. Who even knew why that fucker had decided to come along to volunteering with Namjoon and me. I wasn’t going to turn down an extra set of hands though… For volunteering purposes, of course.
Six subsequent buzzes demand my attention.
Worldwide Handsome 9:08am: “We’re here.” 9:09am: “Get your sweet ass out here.” 9:09am: “You better not have fallen back asleep…” 9:09am: “Don’t make me come in there!” 9:10am: “If you aren’t down here in 30 seconds, I’m drinking your coffee.” 9:10am: “(Y/N).” 9:10am: “THAT’S IT. SAY GOODBYE TO YOUR COFFEE.”
That last text has my ass in high gear as I book it down the steps and out the front door. Barely remembering to lock it behind me, I come to an abrupt halt as I come face to face with an all-too-put-together-for-9am Seokjin.
He leans against Namjoon’s infuriatingly gorgeous black Tesla looking like he’s about to shoot a cover for Men’s Health – Construction Edition. My eyes narrow in on the large coffee cup in his hand and narrow further when he slowly brings it up to his full lips.
“I wouldn’t do that,” I warn.
He sips it.
“You’ve just declared war,” I announce and stride over to him. Attempting to pull the coffee out of his palm and failing, I decide to take drastic measures.
Slowly rising to my toes, I act as if I’m going to kiss his cheek; but at the last second, I turn and bite his earlobe.
“What the fuck!” Seokjin yells way too loudly for the peaceful early morning. Victoriously, I grab my coffee, back away from him, and take a giant sip.
Yes, that sweet, sweet caffeine…
Seokjin rubs his ear and laughs slightly, “Babe, you’re really fucking scary before coffee.”
I nod in affirmation.
“Come on,” he gestures to his car and opens the passenger door for me, “Namjoon will have my ass on a platter if I take too much of your attention, and I know you’ll be heartbroken by the loss of such perfection.”
“You’re insufferable,” I reply, fighting a smile and losing.
“I know,” he grins and leans over the open car-door between us to kiss me. “Morning,” he murmurs in greeting against my lips.
I smile and kiss him again in reply. And then I remember my coffee.
Seokjin pouts at the loss of my lips as I take a cherished sip of the best part of my morning.
As I slide into the front seat, I hear him muttering about how he never should have bought that coffee. Grinning to myself, I buckle my seatbelt and look around the Tesla. Namjoon smiles at me from the driver’s seat, and I automatically swoon under the power of his dimples.
“Buckled?” he asks, as he adjusts the mirrors and flicks on the Bluetooth radio. The distinct sound of Kendrick Lamar fills the air. I nod and watch as he puts the car in drive, his muscles flexing.
His right hand extends across the console to rest on my left thigh and gives it a quick squeeze. I’m thoroughly distracted as I fixate on the hand that has now taken up residence on my leg.
“Hi, noona!” A chorus of two cries from the backseat. My body jolts.
“Ah! Stop, I could’ve dropped my coffee!” I steady my drink before turning to investigate the backseat that I had mistakenly (READ: tragically) thought would be empty. Taehyung and Jimin grin back at me from the seats beside Jin.
“Well, why didn’t you just bring everyone,” I drawl, raising an eyebrow at Namjoon, who just sighs in defeat.
“I mean… I kind of did,” he aims a glare through the rearview mirror, “I’m taking these losers, and Jungkook, Hobi and Yoongi are meeting us there. They refused to miss spending ‘quality time’ with you.”
“I’m going to kill someone,” I mutter under my breath, “Probably Taehyung.”
“At least wait until we exit the vehicle, please,” Namjoon chuckles, “I just got new seats.”
Habitat Worksite – 9:25am
When we finally arrive at the worksite, we step out of the car and head over to where Eddie is currently handing out tasks to different volunteers. I smile at a few familiar faces I see as we draw closer.
“(Y/n)-doll!” Eddie booms and walks over to greet us, “Came here with this one, did ya? And who are these boys?” He gestures towards my harem.
“Yes, sir,” Namjoon grins, quite unbothered by Eddie’s papa bear act, “A couple that carpools together stays together. Go green!”
I shake my head at his idiocy as Eddie splutters to come up with a response. “Don’t listen to him, Eddie. He’s full of shit. We are all just friends. Now, what can we help with today?”
“Yes,” Eddie clears his throat, shooting Namjoon dark look, “(y/n), I need you out front to help me orient a group of volunteers scheduled for one of those work retreat days…”
Fuck. The last group that I helped orient was a nightmare. They were supposedly here for a day of service and team-building, but all they did was fuck around and fuck up the siding. The men in the group refused to listen to my instructions on how to properly do things.
According to their mouthy ringleader, the fact that I had a pair of tits and a vagina made me incapable of knowing the tiniest bit of information about construction, whereas their dicks apparently came with an encyclopedia of knowledge on the subject.
I had almost decked him in the face, but I settled for placing a nice call to his place of employment later that day with an unsavory report on his behavior.
Eddie notices my glowering face and quickly looks away, “Namjoon, I need you to help out Matt and Paul inside to mix and pour some cement. The rest of you can follow me.”
The boys all give varying answers of agreement.
“Grab some gloves and glasses, you two. (Y/n), meet me back out front. Namjoon, Matt and Paul are already inside. They’ll show you the ropes.”
With that, Eddie beelines away from us before I can protest my assigned role. Seokjin, Jimin and Taehyung trail sadly behind him, shooting jealous glances over their shoulders at Namjoon.
Namjoon ignores them and eyes my homicidal expression. He cautiously asks, “What’s wrong?”
“The goddamn patriarchy is what’s wrong, Kim,” I grit out through my clenched teeth and stalk towards the supply trailer.
“Well, I can’t argue with that,” he trails after me, “My mom says that toxic masculinity always ruins the party.”
“God, I love her,” My mood elevates instantly, “Please marry me so I can be her daughter-in-law.”
He laughs, looking through the bin of gloves for a pair large enough for him while handing me a smaller pair. “Where’s my ring?”
“You already have like seven rings. Pull an Ariana and give some away,” I hand him a pair of protective glasses, keeping one for myself. “Anyway, please don’t forget that you’re my ride and leave without me.”
“Forget? Babe, you’ve taken up permanent residence in my mind since Tae pointed you out last semester.”
“Oh, stop,” I dismiss him, waving the pair of gloves in his direction.
He suddenly steps into me. The my small of my back hits the edge of the makeshift work desk latched to the trailer wall. “You know, I’ve noticed you really don’t take some of our compliments seriously...” He looms over me, lips pressed to my throat, “I guess I'm gonna have to change that.”
Namjoon scoops me off the floor by my waist and balances my ass on the edge of the desk. My arms circle his shoulders on instinct and his grip tightens on my hips. When he glances down at me, he lets out a rough breath which sounds like I’m torturing him.
He kisses me, his tongue playing with mine, twining around it, enticing mine to follow. Gravity tries to drag me down off the desk and our mouths separate. Namjoon hoists me up higher with a firm hand on the back of my thigh.
His mouth slams back over mine, and I swear the way he kisses can be felt all the way down to my bones. His wide palm curves around my waist, pulling me further into him. “Damn," he pants, resting his forehead on mine.
BANG. A knock sounds from outside the trailer, “You better not be up to no good in there, you two!” Eddie’s rumbling voice jolts us apart and my head snaps against the wall of the trailer.
A series of obscenities pours from my mouth as I grasp the back of my head. “You good?” Namjoon asks as he lifts me off the desk and back onto the floor.
“I’ll live… barely,” I lament.
He just shakes his head in amusement, “So dramatic, babe. Come on, let’s go do some service.”
