THRIFT STORE PHEASANT

The taxidermy and thrift store gods must have smiled upon me today because I stumbled upon this beautiful pheasant. He was 50% off. Pretty vintage fella, probably from the 70s or 80s but it's hard to tell without a maker's signature.

My first ever taxidermy, done over two extremely cold weeks in November working outside after sunset using trial, error, and dozens of YouTube videos. I’m so incredibly pleased with how it’s turned out.

Las Vegas bird viewing preserve gift shop core?? I’m not even joking when I say that this preserve is my happy place. I’ve only been 3 times, but I’d rather be here over any other place (besides aquariums) I love aquariums. Anyway just felt the need to make an appreciation post for this preserve’s office :3 it was so cool and I got so excited to see all the birds n stuff😋

Ps: All taxidermy in the photos have been ethically collected from the preserve over time!

I am proud to say that the habitat piece I put together for this group of Venezuelan Troupials earned a Best in World title this past week at the World Taxidermy Championships in Coralville, IA. The birds themselves also did very nicely with scores in the mid 80s.

One of university tasks was to create your own ex-libris. Of course I chose a taxidermy theme. It inspired me a bit to create small series of pictures dedicated to my job and passion.

Here I tried to show two main ways of doing taxidermy: creating bone specimens and animal mounts.

Also I framed text into a museum label
